Story highlights

The doodle is Google's first-ever 360-degree interactive doodle

Today's Google Doodle honours French illusionist and film director Georges Melies. On the same day, over hundred years ago, Melies' silent film À la conquete du pole (The Conquest of the Pole, 1912) was released.

During his early years, Melies perfected and pioneered special effects and narrative film techniques and contributes heavily to the development of early cinema.

Today's doodle is called "Back to the Moon" which depicts an illusionist chasing the queen of hearts on an adventure that spans the stars and oceans.
