Footprints of 'world's largest dinosaur' discovered in Scotland

Dozens of dinosaur footprints were found on the coast of Scottish island, Skye. According to the experts, the footprints belong to long-necked Sauropods that walked on Earth in Middle Jurassic era around 170 million years ago.

The interesting bit? Close to 50 newly-found footprints carry thefleshy heel-pads of the giant dinosaurs.

The footprints suggest that Sauropods, in reality, were much bigger than what was documented so far. Details of the discovery were published in the Scottish Journal of Geology yesterday.

The recent finding sheds more light on the Middle Jurrasic era and the evolution of Sauropods.

Sauropods, also known as Sauropoda, are believed to be characterised by very long necks and tails. They had relatively smaller heads as compared to the rest of their body and lizard-like limbs. They are often known to be the largest animals to have ever lived on the planet.
