The Egypt army on Tuesday killed 8 Jihadists and arrested 64 others in a wide-scale military operation called 'Comprehensive Sinai 2018' in Sinai.
Two soldiers were also reported dead and three were left wounded in the operations carried out. In a statement released by the on Tuesday, the armed forces said that the 64 arrested were believed to be members of the Islamic State affiliated group'Sinai Province.'
The Egyptian forces targetted two vehicles which were crossing Egypt's western borders and were loaded with weapons and bombs. In addition, 20 vehicles and 79 motorbikes used by the militants were destroyed.
Also destroyed were 80 stationing points used by the militants as hiding places and storage for their ‘Improvised Explosive Devices’ (IEDS).
Egypt's North Sinai province has been the center of terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers following the military ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests.
More than 200 jihadists and at least 35 soldiers have been killed since the military launched the operation, according to official figures.
Human Rights Watch said last month the Sinai operation could spark a humanitarian crisis, leaving "up to 420,000 residents in four northeastern cities in urgent need of humanitarian aid".
