Trump meeting Modi: Donald Trump at a campaign event on Tuesday (Sep 17) said that he will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra next week. However, the former US President did not reveal details of where the two leaders would meet.
While he referred to the Indian leader as "fantastic," the former US President said India was a "very big abuser" of the US-India trade relationship.
Trump criticises India
Speaking in Flint, Michigan, Trump criticised India and some other countries over trade.

Trump said, "So when India, which is a very big abuser- he happens to be coming to meet me next week, and Modi, he’s fantastic. I mean, fantastic, man".
"A lot of these leaders are fantastic … They’re not a little bit backward. You know the expression, they’re at the top of their game and they use it against us. But India is very tough, Brazil is very tough. I can tell you, every one," he added.
The Modi-Trump dynamic
While he was president of the United States, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi shared warm relations.

In 2020, during Modi's visit to the United States, at the massive "Howdy, Modi!" rally in Texas, which was attended by more than 50,000 people, the two leaders showered each other with praises.
Then, in 2020, when Trump visited India, the Indian PM organised a huge rally for him, an event which also marked the opening of the world's largest cricket stadium.
