
The number of coronavirus cases in the United States crossed 1 million on Tuesday, according to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 10,12,000 cases and 58,356 deaths related to the disease have been recorded in the country.
The deaths toll has now surpassed the total of US troop fatalities during the Vietnam War. A total of 58,220 Americans died during the war in Vietnam, where fighting lasted more than 10 years.
The first known US coronavirus-related fatality was February 6, less than three months ago.
According to the tally, New York remains the hardest-hit state, with 2,91,996 cases and 22,668 deaths, followed by New Jersey where 1,11,188 cases and 6,442 deaths have been reported.
Other states with over 40,000 cases include Massachusetts, Illinois, California and Pennsylvania.
