UK reports 586 COVID-19 deaths in last 24 hours; death toll crosses 21,600

UK on Tuesday reported 586 deaths due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours which was way higher than the 360 a day earlier.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the country has now risen to 21,678. The number of infected cases the country has risen to 158, 353, according to Johns Hopkins coronavirus resource centre's live tracker.
According to Office for National Statistics, deaths at care homes from suspected coronavirus had contributed to the record number of deaths in England and Wales in April even as Britain's health minister said he was "very worried" at signs of coronavirus-related syndrome emerging in children.
"I'm very worried about the early signs that in rare cases, there is an impact of an auto-immune response in children that causes a significant disease," Health Secretary Matt Hancock said, adding,"it's a new disease that we think may be caused by coronavirus and the COVID-19 virus."
"We're doing a lot of research now. What I would also stress is that it is rare. Although it is very significant for those children who do get it, the number of cases is small," the minister added.
