China's launches Fengyun-3D meteorological satellite
Fengyun-3D will provide global three dimensional all-weather and multi-spectral remote sensing images
Just days launching two BeiDou communication satellites, China today launched a meteorological satellite, Fengyun-3D on Wednesday.
The Fengyun-3D satellite was launched fromTaiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern China's Shanxi Province.
In a major technological breakthrough, the Fengyun-3D will provide global three dimensional all-weather and multi-spectral remote sensing images which will help Chinaset to improve metrological data collection.
Two weeks ago, China had launched two BeiDou satellites officially called BeiDou Navigation Satellite system(BDS) into space in a bid to win the space war dominated by Russia and US.
The BeiDou satellites named after Chinese term for the plough or the Big Dipper constellation was started in 1994. China hopes the BeiDou satellite will prove to be a game-changer by expanding its footprints to countries along the One Belt, One Road(OBOR) route.
The Fengyun-3D launched at 2:35 am (Beijing Time) is part of a network of Fengyun-3C satellite launched into space in 2013 which aims to study atmospheric sounding and monitor greenhouse gases. A Long March-4C rocket carried the satellite into space.
