An earthquake struck Gilangharb city in Kermanshah province in western Iran near the Iraqi border on Sunday, injuring about 75 people; news agency Reuters reported citing local media reports.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) initially put the magnitude of the quake at 5.9 but later revised itto 5.5.
According to the report, most of the people got injured while they were trying to escape to the outdoors in panic.
So far some residential building and cattle farms have been damaged. Some roads were also blocked by the rock sliding.
Following the earthquake, aftershocks were also reported in the area.
Iran sits astride major fault lines and is prone to frequent tremors.
In November, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook western Iran, injuring more than 700 people, with most suffering minor wounds.
