X's public accounts will now not be able to hide posts from blocked users. Here's why

The microblogging site X is going get a major change in the block button which will now allow blocked users to see posts on public accounts.
Taking to X on Monday (September 23), owner Elon Musk said, “High time this happened. The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post.”
At present, “You’re blocked” message pops up on X when one tries to view the profile image of the account on which the user has been blocked.
The blocking option also prevents users from seeing the account's replies, media, followers, and following list.
Musk has always expressed his dislike of the block button and said that it “makes no sense” and that “it needs to be deprecated in favour of a stronger form of mute.”

He had earliersaid that he would take away the option of blocking people on the platform completely and would only give the option to block direct messages.
With the introduction of a new feature, X users will still be able to block accounts but the blocked users will still be able to view new posts and other user data.
Here's how people reacted to the new change on X
Web developer Nima Owji first revealed the news of change as he took to X and announced, "X is about to remove the current block button, meaning that if an account is public, their posts will be visible to the blocked users as well!"
Reacting to his posts, some people expressed concern for the users' safety from targeted harassment or stalking.
In reply to Musk, Owji said, "Good move! ‘The block button for public accounts was a stupid feature since everyone could view the posts from their browsers’ incognito mode."

In May, the social media platform allowed the blocked users to see the replies from the accounts which had blocked them on their posts.
The company had stated that the step was taken as part of the ongoing commitment of the platform to "aligning the block feature with our principles as a public town square."
