Premium Saudi number plate offered for nearly $800k at govt auction

A premium Saudi number plate with a single letter and digit was offered for nearly $800,000 (around SAR 3 million) at a government auction. A report by Gulf News on Thursday (Aug 15) said thatthe auction was conducted bythe Saudi General Directorate of Traffic.
The department put the$800,000 price tag on the registration plate "X6." during the auction on Wednesday. The auction featured three other platescomposed of one or two letters and digits.
On Wednesday, one of them, "L11", generated a single bid for $439,676.
Vehicle registration plates with one and two letters and one or two digits are usually auctioned off via electronic sales in Saudi Arabia, the report said.

A look at previous such auctions
In April, the number plate fetched awhopping $5.59 million at the interior ministry's Absher auction. Another registration plate with the distinct "33Z" fetched $506,294 at the same auction, the report added.
The identities of the buyers were not revealed.
In January last year, prominent Saudi businessmanYazeed Al Rajhi bought a premium vehicle plate for $2.66 million.The “1V” number plate generated the highest bidding price exceeding$2.66 million reportedly from Al Rajhi at an Absher auction.
