NIRF Ranking 2024 released: IIT Madras retains the top spot, check top institutions

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Education has released the India Rankings 2024. The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras has retained the top position, followed by IISC Bangalore securing the second position and IIT Bombay at the third position.

NIRF rankings were announced for 16 different categories, including universities altogether, engineering, pharmacy, management, research institutions, colleges, dental, law, medical, innovation, agriculture and allied sectors, state university, architecture and planning, skill university, and open university.

Amongst the 16 categories, Skill University, State University, and Open University are the three latest additions to the categories under NIRF Ranking.

Here is the list of Top Institutions in the overall category:

6 AIIMS, NEW DELHI

8 IIT GUWAHATI
9 JNU, NEW DELHI

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the ninth edition of India rankings at an event organised at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Ministry of Education is also planning to begin a Sustainability Ranking Category in the year 2025.

It should be noted that the NIRF ranking system draws the general understanding and recommendations reached by a core committee set up by MHRD, to determine the basic parameters for ranking various institutions and universities.

The Core Committee has framed various parameters approved by MHRD based on which NIRF rankings are decided. The parameters are learning, teaching, resources, outreach and inclusivity, research and professional practice, perception, and graduation results.

Last year, IIT Madras secured the top position in the overall category and has retained its top spot this year as well. The NIRF ranking system was approved by MHRD and was launched on 29 September 2015.
