The Trump administration is set to eliminate 83% of the programmes under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and shift the remaining ones to the State Department, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Monday (March 10).

This decision shows the swift dismantling of the US' independent humanitarian agency, which had been on the hit list of both President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk. The remaining 1,000 USAID programmes will now be managed under the State Department&rsquo;s oversight.

<h2>Rubio defends cuts</h2>
In a post on X, Rubio said, "After a 6-week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programmes at USAID. The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States."
He added, "In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programmes we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department. Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform." DOGE, a Musk-backed office, has placed officials in key government roles and played a significant part in reducing federal spending.

<h2>Musk reacts</h2>
Musk, who had previously clashed with Rubio, responded to the announcement by saying, &ldquo;Tough, but necessary.&rdquo;
&ldquo;Good working with you. The important parts of USAID should always have been with Dept of State,&rdquo; Musk added. He has long been a vocal critic of USAID, even once suggesting that it should be "fed into a woodchipper."

A court filing in late February revealed that the administration had already cancelled nearly 5,800 USAID awards. It stated that Rubio had "made a final decision with respect to each award, on an individualised basis, affirmatively electing to either retain the award or terminate it pursuant to the terms of the instrument or independent legal authority as inconsistent with the national interests and foreign policy of the United States."
The administration&rsquo;s decision to freeze foreign aid payments and dismantle USAID has faced legal opposition. A federal judge permitted the government to proceed with suspending and terminating staff. However, another judge ruled that the administration must pay nearly $2 billion in outstanding fees for humanitarian work.

The Supreme Court upheld this ruling last week, though it did not specify when the payments would be made.
USAID has historically distributed billions of dollars annually to combat poverty, address diseases, and respond to crises such as famines and natural disasters. It also supports democracy-building initiatives, independent media, and social development projects.

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has urged leaders to &ldquo;not give in to bullies&rdquo; following a scathing social media post from US President Donald Trump.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform just before midnight on Sunday, and criticised Turnbull&rsquo;s leadership and his understanding of China.
&ldquo;Malcolm Turnbull, the former Prime Minister of Australia who was always leading that wonderful country from &lsquo;behind&rsquo; never understood what was going on in China, nor did he have the capacity to do so. I always thought he was a weak and ineffective leader and, obviously, Australian&rsquo;s agreed with me!!!,&rdquo; Trump wrote.

The comments appeared to be a response to an interview Turnbull gave to Bloomberg, in which he suggested that Trump&rsquo;s erratic leadership style was playing into China&rsquo;s hands.
&ldquo;President Xi will aim to be the exact opposite of Trump: where Trump is chaotic, he will be consistent. Where Trump is rude and abusive, he&rsquo;ll be respectful. Where Trump is erratic, he will be consistent,&rdquo; Turnbull said.
He warned that the world was now witnessing an &ldquo;undiluted&rdquo; version of Trump, arguing that his unpredictable nature made Chinese President Xi Jinping a more appealing partner for many nations.

&ldquo;For countries forced to choose between &lsquo;China on the one hand, and Trump on the other&rsquo;, many would &lsquo;find China a more attractive partner&rsquo;,&rdquo; Turnbull added.
<h2>Turnbull dismisses Trump&rsquo;s criticism</h2>
Following Trump&rsquo;s post, Turnbull told The Guardian that his Bloomberg comments &ldquo;speak for themselves.&rdquo;
&ldquo;His [Trump&rsquo;s] post proves that my comments hit the mark,&rdquo; he said.
During an interview on ABC&rsquo;s 7.30 with Sarah Ferguson on Monday night, Turnbull described Trump&rsquo;s remarks as &ldquo;rude and abusive&rdquo; and reiterated his belief that Trump&rsquo;s behaviour was pushing nations closer to China.

<h2>A history of clashes</h2>
Trump and Turnbull have clashed before. In 2017, they had a tense phone call over a refugee resettlement deal brokered by Trump&rsquo;s predecessor, Barack Obama. Trump was highly critical of the agreement, saying accepting it would make him look like a &ldquo;dope.&rdquo;

‘Don’t give in to bullies’: Former Australian PM fires back after Trump calls him ‘weak’ in late-night rant

Kyiv is set to propose an aerial and naval ceasefire with Russia during discussions with US officials in Saudi Arabia this week, according to media reports. President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to arrive in the kingdom as the negotiations take place.
The talks, scheduled for Tuesday, mark the first meeting between Ukrainian and US representatives since a heated exchange at the White House between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump. The dispute led to Zelensky leaving without signing a minerals agreement that Washington had been pushing for. Zelensky later described the incident as "regrettable" and expressed willingness to work with Trump's "strong leadership."

<h2>Proposal for a partial ceasefire</h2>
A Ukrainian official told AFP on Monday, "We do have a proposal for a ceasefire in the sky and ceasefire at sea." The official added, "Because these are the ceasefire options that are easy to install and to monitor, and it's possible to start with them."
A report in The Financial Times, which cited a source familiar with the preparations, said Kyiv hopes that a partial ceasefire could encourage Washington to resume military aid and intelligence sharing.

<h2>Seeking path to peace</h2>
Ukrainian and American officials are set to explore ways to bring an end to the conflict, which has continued for more than three years since Russia&rsquo;s full-scale invasion.
Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine's only aim is peace, stressing that Russia remains the sole reason for the war&rsquo;s continuation. "Ukraine has been seeking peace since the very first second of the war, and we have always said that the only reason that the war is continuing is because of Russia," he wrote on social media.

On Monday, Zelensky was scheduled to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman before Ukrainian officials held talks with their US counterparts the following day.
<h2>US seeks peace framework</h2>
US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff stated that Washington aims to use the talks "to get down a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire as well." He also revealed that Trump had received a letter from Zelensky, calling it "a very positive first step" and "an apology."
When asked whether Ukraine would sign a deal during the talks in Saudi Arabia, Witkoff said, "I think Zelensky has offered to sign it, and we'll see if he follows through."
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also expected to arrive in Jeddah on Monday, along with Mike Waltz, Trump's national security adviser, according to the US State Department.

<h2>US pressure on Ukraine</h2>
Washington has halted military aid, intelligence-sharing, and access to satellite imagery for Ukraine to push Kyiv towards negotiations.
Trump has recently reestablished communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin while criticising Zelensky, raising concerns in Kyiv and among European allies that the US leader might seek a settlement that benefits Russia.
Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Rubio met in Riyadh, where they agreed to resume dialogue and begin talks on the Ukraine conflict.

‘Ceasefire in sky and sea’: What to expect from US-Ukraine talks in Saudi after Trump-Zelensky fallout

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated that Ukraine wants peace, insisting that Russia is the "only reason" the war continues. His comments came on Monday, just before his visit to Saudi Arabia for discussions with US officials.
Zelensky is set to arrive in Saudi Arabia later the same day, ahead of key talks on Tuesday between Ukrainian and US representatives focused on ending the war with Russia.

<h2>US-Ukraine relations under strain</h2>
The meeting is the first between Ukrainian and US officials since Zelensky&rsquo;s troubled visit to the White House last month. US support for Ukraine has become uncertain under President Donald Trump, who has been openly critical of Zelensky.
Tensions between the two countries have risen after Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of acting like a dictator and not holding elections, an accusation also echoed by the Kremlin. Trump has previously made misleading claims about Zelensky&rsquo;s approval ratings as well.

On Sunday, March 9, Trump launched another attack, branding Zelensky as "ungrateful" for the financial aid provided by the US. Speaking to Fox News, Trump criticised the Biden administration&rsquo;s military assistance to Ukraine, suggesting that Zelensky had taken advantage of American support.
"It was like taking candy from a baby, what he did. He's a smart guy, and he's a tough guy, and he took money out of this country under Biden like candy from a baby&mdash;it was so easy with that same attitude. I just don't think he's grateful. We gave him $350 billion," Trump said.

<h2>Trump defends his record on Russia</h2>
Trump also defended his approach towards Russia, rejecting claims that US backing for Ukraine has weakened. "I stopped the Russian pipeline, I'm the one that put sanctions on Russia, I'm the one that gave the Javelins, but I get along well with Putin. Nobody has been tougher on Russia than Donald Trump, and they know that," he asserted.
<h2>Kremlin&rsquo;s response to Saudi talks</h2>
Meanwhile, the Kremlin, which has been supportive of Washington&rsquo;s stance since Trump took office, downplayed expectations from the Saudi negotiations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday that Moscow was not expecting any "specific or concrete" results from the discussions. He suggested that the US was likely waiting for Ukraine to signal its willingness to negotiate peace.
"This is, in fact, probably what everyone is waiting for," Peskov said.

‘Ukraine wants peace’: Ahead of talks with US, Zelensky says Russia is the ‘only reason’ war continues

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken US President Donald Trump&rsquo;s comments about his attire to heart it seems as he made a sarcastic remark about not wearing a suit during a speech on Sunday (9 March).
In a video shared by the Ukrainian presidency, Zelensky addressed the audience at an awards ceremony, concluding his speech with a sarcastic comment, "Sorry I'm not in a suit."

Dressed in black with Ukraine&rsquo;s trident emblem, his outfit closely resembled what he wore during his widely infamous exchange with Trump last month.
<h2>Where did the suits go?</h2>
Since Russia's invasion in February 2022, Zelensky has abandoned formal suits in favour of military-style clothing, typically in khaki or black. His choice is meant to symbolise that Ukraine is at war, a decision his team has also followed.
However, during a meeting at the White House, a reporter, Brian Glenn, questioned Zelensky about his outfit in a mocking tone.

"You're at the highest level in this country's office, and you refuse to wear a suit. Just want to see if&mdash;do you own a suit?" Glenn asked. He continued, "A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office."
In response, Zelensky said, "I will wear a suit after this war is over. Maybe something like yours. Maybe better, maybe cheaper."
The exchange quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention.

Following Zelensky&rsquo;s meeting with Trump, several media outlets reported that Trump was unhappy with the Ukrainian leader&rsquo;s attire. According to reports, US advisers had suggested that Zelensky wear a suit to the meeting as a sign of respect.
When Zelensky arrived, Trump sarcastically said, "He is all dressed up today."
<h2>Reporter faces backlash</h2>
Glenn faced strong criticism on social media for his question. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken US President Donald Trump’s comments about his attire to heart it seems as he made a sarcastic remark about not wearing a suit during a speech on Sunday (9 March). Where did the suits go? Since Russia's invasion in February 2022, Zelensky has abandoned formal suits in favour of military-style clothing, typically in khaki or black. His choice is meant to symbolise that Ukraine is at war, a decision his team has also followed. However, during a meeting at the White House, a reporter, Brian Glenn, questioned Zelensky about his outfit in a mocking tone. In response, Zelensky said, "I will wear a suit after this war is over. Maybe something like yours. Maybe better, maybe cheaper." The exchange quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention. Trump has previously imposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada, as well as on China, arguing that these measures are necessary due to border security concerns. He claims that fentanyl is being smuggled into the US through imports from these countries.

‘Took money like candy from baby’: Trump slams ‘ungrateful’ Zelensky for extorting US ahead of talks with Kyiv

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on Sunday (March 9) that the United States is now "President Donald Trump's country" as his administration continues efforts to tighten border security.
Speaking on CBS during an interview with host Margaret Brennan, Noem defended the administration&rsquo;s decision to maintain a strong military presence at the southern border, despite border crossings reaching a 25-year low.

&ldquo;There are 6,000 U.S. military personnel working at the border now. That number could go up to 9,000 by the end of the month,&rdquo; Brennan pointed out.
Brennan then asked, &ldquo;How long do you have to keep them there if the numbers are already dropping like this?&rdquo;
In response, Noem stressed the government&rsquo;s commitment to border security, saying, &ldquo;We&rsquo;ll continue the partnership with the Department of Defense, but also we&rsquo;ve got partnerships with Commerce, with the Attorney General&rsquo;s office. We&rsquo;ll keep them there until that border is completely secure, and we see all-time record lows of encounters.&rdquo;

She further added that the approach marked a shift from the previous administration. &ldquo;Our Border Patrol's doing fantastic work, but we're going to keep them there till the whole world gets the message that this isn't Joe Biden's world anymore. This is President Donald Trump's country, where we have a border, where we have laws, and it applies equally to everybody,&rdquo; she said.
Noem added, &ldquo;I think that is what is so refreshing, is that we're not picking and choosing winners and losers anymore. Americans have to live by the law, so do those who come to this country.&rdquo;
<h2>New leadership at ICE as deportation push continues</h2>
Alongside the border security measures, Noem also announced leadership changes at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Sunday. The move comes as the agency struggles to meet President Trump&rsquo;s goal of large-scale deportation operations targeting immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

Trump's administration removed 37,660 individuals during his first month in office, according to Homeland Security data first reported by Reuters. This figure falls short of the monthly average of 57,000 deportations and returns recorded in the final year of Joe Biden&rsquo;s presidency.
During his campaign, Trump had vowed to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. However, last month, acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello was reassigned after failing to meet expectations.

‘Not Biden’s world anymore’: DHS chief says US is now ‘Trump’s country’ as border crackdown continues

Donald Trump&rsquo;s relationship with the United Kingdom appears to have cooled following King Charles&rsquo; public show of support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The monarch welcomed Zelensky to his private residence just days after the Ukrainian leader&rsquo;s tense Oval Office exchange with Trump.
Photos of King Charles standing alongside Zelensky have reportedly diminished the significance of Trump&rsquo;s upcoming state visit to the UK. According to the Daily Mail, diplomatic sources in Washington believe the invitation, extended by Prime Minister Keir Starmer in front of TV cameras, now feels &ldquo;less special&rdquo; to the US president.

Trump&rsquo;s allies had questioned whether the UK government should have discouraged the King from meeting Zelensky. However, officials pushed back, saying it would have been inappropriate for the government to "direct" the monarch on whom he could receive.
Zelensky travelled to King Charles&rsquo; Norfolk residence via a military helicopter after attending the&nbsp; European Defence Summit hosted by Starmer.
<h2>Canada tensions add to strain</h2>
The relationship between Trump and King Charles may have been further complicated by reports that the King was troubled by Trump&rsquo;s recent criticisms of Canada.

The Sunday Times reported that Charles was unsettled by Trump&rsquo;s comments, particularly as Canada still recognises him as its official head of state.
Following his meeting with Zelensky, King Charles also hosted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The visit came at a difficult time for Trudeau, as he was dealing with Trump&rsquo;s announcement of 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports.
<h2>UK government denies Trump is upset</h2>
Downing Street has dismissed claims that Trump is unhappy about the meetings, stating it does "not recognise" reports of him sulking. ‘Makes him feel less special’: Trump miffed with UK after King Charles welcomes Zelensky, Trudeau to his home

The Trump administration is in discussions with Moscow about allowing Russian diplomats back into the United States, potentially reversing years of tit-for-tat expulsions.
However, this move, which Russia is expected to reciprocate, could provide the Kremlin with an opportunity to re-establish its intelligence operations in the US.
US and Russian officials met in Istanbul last month to explore the possibility of increasing diplomatic representation in each other&rsquo;s countries.
Days earlier, in Riyadh, a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with top Russian officials to discuss ensuring their embassies and consulates could function properly. &ldquo;To ensure that our diplomatic missions can function,&rdquo; Rubio told reporters.

Both Washington and Moscow suggest that normalising diplomatic operations could lay the groundwork for broader negotiations, potentially even a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
<h2>Espionage risks and diplomatic advantages</h2>
Reopening diplomatic channels might also allow the US to strengthen its intelligence-gathering efforts in Russia. American embassies and consulates have long hosted intelligence operatives, but experts caution that any agreement to restore diplomatic staffing could give Russian spies a significant advantage.

Operating in a more open society, they would have greater freedom compared to their American counterparts in Moscow, who face constant surveillance and restrictions.
Paul Kolbe, a senior fellow at Harvard&rsquo;s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, told The New York Times, &ldquo;If I were sitting in Yasenevo or Lubyanka and targeting Americans, I would be rubbing my hands with glee.&rdquo;
Kolbe further explained that Russian diplomats in the US would likely include intelligence officers seeking to infiltrate American government institutions and businesses.
&ldquo;They will have far more access and freedom of action than American diplomats in Moscow, who will contend with 24/7 physical and technical surveillance and harassment,&rdquo; he said.

The Trump administration&rsquo;s broader shake-up of the federal workforce could also play into the Kremlin&rsquo;s hands, Kolbe noted.
<h2>Years of diplomatic expulsions between US and Russia</h2>
US-Russia relations took a sharp downturn after Moscow interfered in the 2016 presidential election. In response, successive US presidents expelled over 100 Russian diplomats accused of espionage and shut down several Russian diplomatic facilities suspected of intelligence operations.
President Barack Obama ordered 35 Russian intelligence operatives to leave and seized two diplomatic compounds in New York and Maryland. In 2018, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">President Trump</a> expelled 60 more Russian diplomats and closed Russia&rsquo;s consulate in Seattle after Russian agents poisoned a former spy in the UK.
President Joe Biden later removed another 10 Russian diplomats and a dozen suspected spies from Russia&rsquo;s UN mission following cyberattacks and Moscow&rsquo;s invasion of Ukraine.
In nearly every case, Russia retaliated with equivalent measures, expelling American diplomats and forcing the closure of US consulates. The Kremlin also barred the US Embassy in Moscow from employing local staff, leaving American diplomats to handle maintenance tasks such as cleaning floors and shovelling snow.
Today, both sides operate with minimal diplomatic presence, including significantly reduced intelligence staff. The potential reopening of diplomatic missions could restore these operations, but also rekindle espionage battles between the two nations.

World: Both Washington and Moscow suggest that normalising diplomatic operations could lay the groundwork for broader negotiations, potentially even a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.

US and Russian officials met in Istanbul last month to explore the possibility of increasing diplomatic representation in each other’s countries. Days earlier, in Riyadh, a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with top Russian officials to discuss ensuring their embassies and consulates could function properly. “To ensure that our diplomatic missions can function,” Rubio told reporters. Espionage risks and diplomatic advantages Reopening diplomatic channels might also allow the US to strengthen its intelligence-gathering efforts in Russia. American embassies and consulates have long hosted intelligence operatives, but experts caution that any agreement to restore diplomatic staffing could give Russian spies a significant advantage. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump</a> administration is reportedly conducting polygraph tests on its employees to uncover leaks about immigration enforcement operations.
Tom Homan, Trump&rsquo;s border security adviser, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have repeatedly pointed to media leaks as the reason behind lower-than-expected arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They claim that leaked information has revealed which cities federal law enforcement planned to target.

ICE detention centres are already at capacity, Congress has not approved a major funding increase for immigration enforcement, and federal judges have blocked the administration from targeting churches.
Despite these challenges, border crossings dropped significantly in Trump&rsquo;s early months in office. According to CBS News, approximately 8,450 people were apprehended at the US-Mexico border during Trump&rsquo;s first full month in office, the lowest level in over two decades.

US President Donald Trump's prized Turnberry golf resort in Scotland has been vandalised by protesters who sprayed "GAZA IS NOT 4 SALE" in huge white letters on the lawn.
The activists also damaged greens and sprayed blood-red paint over the luxury resort's clubhouse overnight on Saturday.
The Palestine Action group said it was a "direct response to the US administration's stated intent to ethnically cleanse Gaza".

Trump sparked outrage last month when he suggested the US "take over" Gaza and turn it into the "Riviera of the Middle East", while forcing its Palestinian inhabitants to relocate to Egypt or Jordan.
The activists cited an AI-generated video the US president shared online last week, which showed the razed Palestinian territory rebuilt as a Trump-branded seaside resort.
One scene showed Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sipping cocktails in swimsuits by a pool.
"Whilst Trump attempts to treat Gaza as his property, he should know his own property is within reach," Palestine Action said on social media.

Police Scotland told AFP it was investigating after receiving a report of damage at around 0440 GMT on Saturday.
Last week, the United States said it had approved the sale of more than $3 billion in munitions, bulldozers and related equipment to Israel, which has used American-made weapons to devastating effect in Gaza.
The Turnberry property in southwest Scotland is one of two resorts that Trump owns in the country, his mother's ancestral home.
A spokesman for Trump Turnberry said: "This was a childish, criminal act but the incredible team at Trump Turnberry will ensure it does not impact business.

Donald Trump&rsquo;s newly appointed FBI Director, Kash Patel, has made a series of unusual requests that would have been unthinkable in previous administrations, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
Patel, a close ally of Trump, was confirmed by the narrowest margin in the US Senate. Shortly after taking office, he reportedly asked for direct phone lines to Trump from both his office and home, bypassing the Department of Justice's usual chain of communication.

"Senior FBI officials can&rsquo;t bring cellphones into their offices given the security risks. A secure landline already sits on the desks of many top FBI officials that can connect them to the White House switchboard, the CIA, and other national security agencies, but Patel asked how to connect directly with Trump&rsquo;s Oval Office," the report said.
His first move as director was to remove all existing executive staffers from the seventh floor, where his office is located. Patel also explored "an arrangement outside the traditional chain of command in which the FBI director reports to the deputy attorney general, and the president usually talks only to the attorney general," according to the Journal.

‘They aim at domination’: Khamenei condemns ‘bullying’ after Trump’s military action threat against Iran

Greenland heads to the polls on Tuesday in what is being called the most significant election in the Arctic island&rsquo;s history. While issues such as education, healthcare, and independence remain central to the debate, one factor that has drawn international attention is US President Donald Trump&rsquo;s determination to acquire Greenland &ldquo;one way or the other&rdquo;.
Denmark, which ruled Greenland as a colony until 1953 and still oversees its foreign and security policy, is watching closely, concerned about the potential loss of a key part of its kingdom.

<h2>Trump's obsession with Greenland</h2>
Even before his second term began in January, Trump had revived his earlier ambitions, making it clear that he would not hesitate to take military action or impose tariffs if Denmark refused to cooperate. This has intensified global interest in Greenland&rsquo;s elections.
<h2>Who are the two big contenders in the Greenland polls?</h2>
The election is mainly contested between two major political alliances, the coalition led by Greenland&rsquo;s Prime Minister M&uacute;te Egede of Inuit Ataqatigiit, a democratic socialist and pro-independence party, and the opposition party Naleraq, which has been gaining ground with its strong push for independence and openness to US collaboration.

Political analysts say the race is too close to call. Naleraq&rsquo;s rising popularity signals a shift in Greenland&rsquo;s political mood, with some voters seeing Trump&rsquo;s interest as an opportunity to negotiate better terms with Denmark or even accelerate Greenland&rsquo;s path to independence.
Security concerns have also come into play, with politicians now requiring protection while campaigning, something unprecedented in Greenland&rsquo;s elections. This political tension includes growing public anger revelations of the alleged mistreatment of Greenlanders by Denmark.

<h2>Every vote counts</h2>
With a small voting population of around 40,000, out of a total of 57,000 residents, every vote counts. While Trump&rsquo;s comments triggered a crisis in Copenhagen, Greenlanders largely reacted with a mix of curiosity and optimism, thinking that the situation could be used to their advantage in negotiations.
&ldquo;This election is where everyday politics collides with geopolitical questions over Trump,&rdquo; said Rasmus Leander Nielsen, head of Nasiffik, the University of Greenland&rsquo;s Centre for Foreign and Security Policy, told The Guardian.

He added, &ldquo;We see different dynamics going in different directions, but also it&rsquo;s very unpredictable what&rsquo;s going to happen.&rdquo;
&ldquo;Now with heightened tensions, Greenland has pretty good cards in its hands and could make the argument that they need to do something different from the status quo,&rdquo; he added.

Also read: Greenland rejects Trump pledge to make the island American Trump's obsession with Greenland Even before his second term began in January, Trump had revived his earlier ambitions, making it clear that he would not hesitate to take military action or impose tariffs if Denmark refused to cooperate. This has intensified global interest in Greenland’s elections. Who are the two big contenders in the Greenland polls? The election is mainly contested between two major political alliances, the coalition led by Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede of Inuit Ataqatigiit, a democratic socialist and pro-independence party, and the opposition party Naleraq, which has been gaining ground with its strong push for independence and openness to US collaboration. Also read: In a first, scientists record countless tiny 'ice quakes' inside Greenland ice stream Political analysts say the race is too close to call. Naleraq’s rising popularity signals a shift in Greenland’s political mood, with some voters seeing Trump’s interest as an opportunity to negotiate better terms with Denmark or even accelerate Greenland’s path to independence. Security concerns have also come into play, with politicians now requiring protection while campaigning, something unprecedented in Greenland’s elections. This political tension includes growing public anger revelations of the alleged mistreatment of Greenlanders by Denmark. Also read: Donald Trump says we will get Greenland 'one way or the other' Every vote counts With a small voting population of around 40,000, out of a total of 57,000 residents, every vote counts. While Trump’s comments triggered a crisis in Copenhagen, Greenlanders largely reacted with a mix of curiosity and optimism, thinking that the situation could be used to their advantage in negotiations. “This election is where everyday politics collides with geopolitical questions over Trump,” said Rasmus Leander Nielsen, head of Nasiffik, the University of Greenland’s Centre for Foreign and Security Policy, told The Guardian. Also read: ‘Free speech’ but with limits: 'Equality', 'pregnant people' among words banned under Trump’s ‘woke’ crackdown He added, “We see different dynamics going in different directions, but also it’s very unpredictable what’s going to happen.” “Now with heightened tensions, Greenland has pretty good cards in its hands and could make the argument that they need to do something different from the status quo,” he added. ‘Highly unpredictable’: How Trump’s obsession made Greenland’s election the most important in its history

One of President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump&rsquo;s</a> first actions upon returning to office in January was a sweeping removal of &ldquo;woke&rdquo; language across federal government websites. According to an investigation by the New York Times, this directive has led to hundreds of terms being erased or avoided in official communications.
The Times reported that the list of banned words includes phrases such as &ldquo;sense of belonging,&rdquo; &ldquo;all-inclusive&rdquo; and &ldquo;at risk.&rdquo; However, the purge has also extended to seemingly neutral terms like &ldquo;women,&rdquo; &ldquo;institutional&rdquo; and &ldquo;systemic.&rdquo;

<h2>A push for &lsquo;free speech,&rsquo; but with limits</h2>
On his first day back in office, Trump signed an executive order titled &ldquo;Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship.&rdquo; The order declared, &ldquo;Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society.&rdquo; However, the language restrictions now in place appear to contradict that stance.

‘Free speech’ but with limits: ‘Equality’, ‘pregnant people’ among words banned under Trump’s ‘woke’ crackdown

US President Donald Trump suggested on Friday (March 7) that action against Iran could be imminent, saying that "something is going to happen very soon."
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, "There will be some interesting days ahead, that's all I can tell you." He did not provide specific details.
"We&rsquo;re down to final strokes with Iran. That&rsquo;s going to be an interesting time, and we&rsquo;ll see what happens," he said.

Repeating his stance on Iran&rsquo;s nuclear ambitions, Trump added, "We&rsquo;re down to final moments. We&rsquo;re at final moments. We can&rsquo;t let them have a nuclear weapon."
"It&rsquo;s an interesting time in the history of the world, but we have a situation with Iran that something&rsquo;s going to happen very soon &ndash; very, very soon," Trump said.
Despite hinting at possible military action, he also spoke of a diplomatic solution. "Hopefully, we can have a peace deal. I&rsquo;m not speaking out of strength or weakness; I&rsquo;m just saying I&rsquo;d rather see a peace deal than the other. But the other will solve the problem," he said, without clarifying what "the other" referred to.

'Final strokes': Trump hints at 'final moments' with Iran after his letter to Khamenei 'gets lost in mail'

US President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump</a> once again on Friday (March 7) criticised&nbsp;India&rsquo;s trade policies, claiming the country imposes &ldquo;massive tariffs&rdquo; on American goods. Speaking in an unscheduled Oval Office address on Friday, Trump stated that India has agreed to reduce these tariffs.
"India levies heavy tariff. It is almost impossible to trade with them. But they agreed to lower down tariffs," he told reporters.

<h2>India&rsquo;s cautious response</h2>
Earlier the same day, India responded carefully to Trump&rsquo;s threat of imposing reciprocal tariffs on trading partners from April 2. The Indian government emphasised that both nations are working towards a comprehensive trade agreement to address tariff and non-tariff barriers while improving market access.
India&rsquo;s external affairs ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, acknowledged ongoing discussions between the two countries but did not comment on any specific actions India might take if Trump follows through with his tariff plan.
<h2>Negotiating a trade agreement</h2>
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s visit to the US in February, India and the US announced plans to negotiate a wide-ranging bilateral trade agreement. Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal visited Washington from March 4-6 to discuss the details with his American counterparts. The first phase of the deal is expected to be completed by the autumn.

&ldquo;The two governments are in the process of advancing discussions on a multi-sector bilateral trade agreement,&rdquo; Jaiswal said in a media briefing, adding that India&rsquo;s goal is to enhance trade, improve market access, reduce barriers, and integrate supply chains between the two nations.
Goyal&rsquo;s meetings in Washington focused on trade and tariff-related issues. &ldquo;These issues have been discussed, and we will see more in the coming days... but both sides are keen on advancing these discussions further,&rdquo; Jaiswal stated.
<h2>Trump&rsquo;s stance on reciprocal tariffs</h2>
Trump reiterated his stance on tariffs while addressing a joint session of the US Congress on Tuesday. Listing India alongside Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico, and the European Union, he accused these countries of imposing much higher tariffs on US goods than the US charges them.

&ldquo;It&rsquo;s very unfair. India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100%. China&rsquo;s average tariff on our products is twice what we charge them,&rdquo; Trump said, adding that he intends to introduce reciprocal tariffs from April 2 to correct the trade imbalance.

Trump-era DEI ban triggers Pentagon to delete historic WWII photo of 'gay' plane: Here’s why

Russia is open to discussing a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, provided there is clear progress towards a lasting peace agreement, according to a report by Bloomberg.&nbsp;This marks the first indication of a positive response from President Vladimir Putin to US counterpart Donald Trump&rsquo;s call for a ceasefire.&nbsp;
As per Bloomberg, the proposal was reportedly conveyed during talks between Russian and American officials in Saudi Arabia last month.

For Russia to agree to a ceasefire agreement, key principles of a final peace settlement must be established, according to the report. Another source told Bloomberg that Moscow would particularly insist on defining the parameters of any future peacekeeping mission, including which nations would be involved.
This report comes hours after US President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump</a> warned of large-scale sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and peace agreement is reached with Ukraine.
"Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely &ldquo;pounding&rdquo; Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!" he wrote.
These developments come as the US and Ukraine prepare to hold their first direct talks since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with Trump at the White House last week. US special envoy Steve Witkoff said that the upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia aims to establish &ldquo;a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire.&rdquo;
Kremlin has not commented on the reports, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov declining to respond to requests for confirmation.

Russia has made it clear that it will not accept NATO troops on Ukrainian soil, rejecting a European proposal to form a &ldquo;coalition of the willing&rdquo; to oversee any peace agreement. However, Moscow does not oppose the deployment of forces from neutral countries such as China, according to the Bloomberg report.
Since taking office on 20 January, Trump has shifted US policy on the war, seeking to bring a rapid resolution to what has become Europe&rsquo;s most significant conflict in 80 years.
Last month, he held phone talks with Putin, during which they agreed to a future summit, though no date has been set. Trump has also dropped US backing for Ukraine&rsquo;s potential NATO membership, with senior officials stating that regaining all Ukrainian territory lost to Russia since 2014 is now seen as unrealistic.

As per Bloomberg, the proposal was reportedly conveyed during talks between Russian and American officials in Saudi Arabia last month. Also read: 'Get to table right now': Trump warns of sanctions, tariffs on Russia 'until ceasefire is reached' with Ukraine For Russia to agree to a ceasefire agreement, key principles of a final peace settlement must be established, according to the report. Another source told Bloomberg that Moscow would particularly insist on defining the parameters of any future peacekeeping mission, including which nations would be involved. This report comes hours after US President Donald Trump warned of large-scale sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and peace agreement is reached with Ukraine. "Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!" he wrote. These developments come as the US and Ukraine prepare to hold their first direct talks since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with Trump at the White House last week. US special envoy Steve Witkoff said that the upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia aims to establish “a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire.” Kremlin has not commented on the reports, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov declining to respond to requests for confirmation. Also read: 'Alarming': Trump wanted 'original' US Declaration of Independence as Oval Office decoration. What is it? Russia has made it clear that it will not accept NATO troops on Ukrainian soil, rejecting a European proposal to form a “coalition of the willing” to oversee any peace agreement. However, Moscow does not oppose the deployment of forces from neutral countries such as China, according to the Bloomberg report. Since taking office on 20 January, Trump has shifted US policy on the war, seeking to bring a rapid resolution to what has become Europe’s most significant conflict in 80 years. Last month, he held phone talks with Putin, during which they agreed to a future summit, though no date has been set. Trump has also dropped US backing for Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, with senior officials stating that regaining all Ukrainian territory lost to Russia since 2014 is now seen as unrealistic. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had earlier warned that the US will go all out on sanctions on Russian energy if it helps lead to a ceasefire.&nbsp;
His warning comes just days before members of his administration are scheduled to meet Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss possible steps towards ending the war. The same officials had previously held talks with their Russian counterparts in Riyadh last month.
Trump has previously engaged in discussions with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the ongoing conflict.
However, his approach towards Zelensky has been noticeably more critical. The United States has also halted military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv, further straining relations between the two nations.

Tensions escalated following a missile attack by Russian forces, which targeted Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure overnight. This marked the first major assault since the US decided to pause intelligence-sharing with Ukraine.
Reacting to the attack, Zelensky wrote on Telegram,&nbsp;"The first steps to establishing real peace should be forcing the sole source of this war, Russia, to stop such attacks."
According to Ukraine&rsquo;s air force, Russia launched a barrage of 67 missiles and 194 drones in the overnight assault. Ukrainian forces managed to intercept 34 missiles and 100 drones.
Relations between Ukraine and the US, once Kyiv&rsquo;s most significant ally, have hit a new low following a tense exchange between Zelensky and Trump in the Oval Office last week, which was broadcast on live television.

'Get to table right now': Trump warns of sanctions, tariffs on Russia 'until ceasefire is reached' with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump reportedly suggested relocating the original Declaration of Independence to the Oval Office, according to The Atlantic.
The magazine, citing anonymous sources in the White House familiar with the discussions, said that Trump&rsquo;s advisers were &ldquo;alarmed&rdquo; by the idea and expressed concerns over its feasibility.

The historic document, which marked the United States&rsquo; separation from British rule, is nearly 250 years old and requires strict preservation measures.
It&nbsp;is currently housed in the rotunda of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, where it is stored in an oxygen-free, argon-filled glass case. To protect it from light exposure and other environmental factors, access to the case is tightly controlled.
Due to the document&rsquo;s fragile condition, some of Trump&rsquo;s aides were initially hesitant about the proposal. However, discussions have since shifted towards possibly displaying historical copies rather than the original.

'Alarming': Trump wanted 'original' US Declaration of Independence as Oval Office decoration. What is it?

China&rsquo;s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged India and China to strengthen cooperation and resist global power struggles, as tensions between Beijing and Washington escalate. His comments came on Friday following a National People&rsquo;s Congress meeting, just days after the United States doubled tariffs on Chinese imports to 20%.

Wang stressed that India and China should work together and take a stand against &ldquo;hegemonism and power politics.&rdquo; He said, &ldquo;Making the dragon and elephant dance is the only right choice,&rdquo; adding that mutual support, rather than competition, was in both countries&rsquo; best interests.
He also suggested that if the two Asian giants aligned their economic and diplomatic efforts, the &ldquo;democratisation of international relations&rdquo; and the development of the Global South would see significant progress.
His comments followed statements by India&rsquo;s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who on Thursday said that both nations were striving for a &ldquo;more predictable and positive course&rdquo; in their relationship. He stressed initiatives such as the resumption of pilgrimages to sites under China&rsquo;s control, direct flights, and journalist exchanges as steps towards rebuilding ties.

Wang added that major nations should uphold their international responsibilities, stating, &ldquo;A big country should honour its international obligations&rdquo; and warned that countries &ldquo;should not bully&rdquo; each other.

Additionally, the Canadian government intends to challenge the US measures at the World Trade Organization (WTO), arguing they violate an existing free trade agreement between the two nations.

‘They will harm me’: US reporter who questioned Zelensky’s outfit claims getting ‘thousands of death threats’

Russia has hailed the United States' decision to halt military aid to Ukraine, calling it a move that could help bring the ongoing war to an end. The suspension follows a high-profile dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The pause in aid, which took effect immediately on Monday, affects hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military supplies, including ammunition, vehicles, and other equipment originally approved during Joe Biden's presidency, according to The New York Times.

<h2>'This can push the Kyiv regime towards peace process'</h2>
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed the development, though he admitted Russia was still collecting details.&nbsp;
"If the United States stops (military supplies), this would probably be the best contribution to peace," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Undoubtedly, we have yet to figure out the details, but if it&rsquo;s true, then this is a decision that really can push the Kyiv regime towards a peace process," the Russian presidential spokesman added.

"The President has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," a White House official told AFP.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance suggested that both Ukraine and its Western allies were struggling to sustain the war effort. He said that Ukraine was facing manpower shortages, while the US lacked the financial resources to continue its support.

"And what they need to be saying to President Zelensky is, &lsquo;This can&rsquo;t go on forever.&rsquo; The bloodshed, the killing, the economic devastation, it&rsquo;s making everyone worse off," he continued.
The decision to suspend military aid comes just days after a tense meeting between Zelensky and Trump at the White House, which ended in a heated exchange between the two leaders in front of the media.

‘Best contribution to peace’: Russia hails Trump’s move of halting military aid to Ukraine

Elon Musk&rsquo;s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has updated its &ldquo;wall of receipts&rdquo;, now claiming to have saved US taxpayers an estimated $105 billion. However, the department&rsquo;s own records show a much smaller amount.
According to DOGE&rsquo;s figures, the total savings come to about $19 billion. This includes $8 billion from cancelled contracts, $10 billion from grants that were stopped, and $660 million from terminated leases. The department also claims that these actions have saved $652.17 per US taxpayer, though this number appears to be much higher than what the data supports.

<h2>Concerns over accuracy</h2>
Since its launch, DOGE has faced close scrutiny, especially after its first receipts wall contained major errors. One of the biggest mistakes involved a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) contract. DOGE initially claimed it had saved $8 billion, but the actual contract was only worth $8 million.
The department quickly corrected this and other mistakes, but it has not explained why its estimated savings are much higher than what its website can verify. DOGE updates its records weekly and has promised to introduce real-time updates soon.

<h2>Old cancellations counted as new savings</h2>
A report by The New York Times found that DOGE has taken credit for contract cancellations from decades ago. One example listed on its website was $53.7 million in savings from a US Coast Guard contract that was actually cancelled in 2005 during George W. Bush&rsquo;s presidency.
The report also suggested that DOGE has been removing incorrect claims only to replace them with new ones. While there are many contracts for taxpayers to keep track of, experts who study government spending have noticed these mistakes.
Lisa Shea Mundt, an analyst at The Pulse of GovCon, said many of DOGE&rsquo;s claimed savings do not count as actual savings.

&ldquo;These are not savings,&rdquo; she told the Times. &ldquo;The money&rsquo;s been spent. Period. Point blank.&rdquo;
<h2>Questions about the team&rsquo;s experience</h2>
The Times also raised concerns about whether DOGE&rsquo;s staff are qualified to handle complex government contracts. Many of the department&rsquo;s young employees have ties to Musk&rsquo;s companies, but may not have enough experience with federal budgeting and contracts.
&ldquo;The mistakes also seem to call into question the team members&rsquo; competence&mdash;whether they understand the government well enough to cut it while avoiding catastrophe,&rdquo; the report stated.
Musk has said that mistakes will happen but will be fixed quickly. However, some of these errors may have serious consequences.
A former USAID official warned that some of DOGE&rsquo;s actions could have put lives at risk. Musk confirmed at a Cabinet meeting last week that DOGE had briefly cut funding for Ebola prevention, though he said the funding was restored quickly.

The department also came under criticism after it was revealed that 400,000 boxes of USAID-branded &ldquo;Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food&rdquo; were stuck in a warehouse in Georgia because of budget cuts. These food packages are meant to help malnourished children in crisis areas.
Jon Favreau, former Barack Obama speechwriter and co-host of Pod Save America, criticised Musk over the issue. &ldquo;Kids will die because Elon Musk starved them of food we already paid for,&rdquo; Favreau wrote.
Musk responded by calling Favreau &ldquo;an imbecilic propagandist who lies to score cheap political points&rdquo; but later admitted the funding cut had happened. He said the decision had been reversed.

In another development, Trump is reportedly weighing the possibility of halting military aid to Ukraine. According to The New York Times, he is set to meet with key advisers, including Senator Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, to discuss various options. These could include blocking aid that has already been approved by the Biden administration.

Trump claims he’s the only US prez who didn’t ‘surrender’ Ukraine’s land to Putin, but history says otherwise

The 2025 Oscars saw Donald Trump become the subject of a joke from host Conan O&rsquo;Brien, who took aim at the US President while discussing the film Anora.&nbsp;
The movie, which follows the relationship between a young Brooklyn woman and the son of a Russian oligarch, was used as a reference to Trump&rsquo;s ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He then made a pointed remark about the heated confrontation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House just days earlier. &ldquo;I guess Americans are excited to see somebody finally stand up to a powerful Russian,&rdquo; O&rsquo;Brien quipped. The audience initially reacted with shock before breaking into applause and cheers.
Anora went on to win five awards, including Best Picture, while lead actress Mikey Madison pulled off a surprise victory over The Substance&rsquo;s Demi Moore to claim Best Actress.

O&rsquo;Brien&rsquo;s comments sparked debate online, with one X user writing, &ldquo;In before MAGA tears.&rdquo; Another criticised Hollywood&rsquo;s stance, saying, &ldquo;When all the &lsquo;artists&rsquo; celebrate the unholy NATO meat grinder, you know society is in trouble.&rdquo;

Some questioned the irony of Anora being used to take a swipe at Trump. &ldquo;This makes zero sense. The movie glorifies Russian warmongers. Is that how Hollywood &lsquo;stands up to Russia&rsquo;? By licking its boots and rewarding its propagandists? Pathetic,&rdquo; one person wrote.
Another added, &ldquo;He could have said Trump.&rdquo;

The audience initially reacted with shock before breaking into applause and cheers. Anora went on to win five awards, including Best Picture, while lead actress Mikey Madison pulled off a surprise victory over The Substance’s Demi Moore to claim Best Actress. Earlier in the ceremony, Kill Bill star Daryl Hannah was the first to highlight Ukraine’s struggles. As she took the stage to present Best Editing, she declared, “Slava Ukraine,” meaning “Glory to Ukraine.” Mixed reactions on social media O’Brien’s comments sparked debate online, with one X user writing, “In before MAGA tears.” Another criticised Hollywood’s stance, saying, “When all the ‘artists’ celebrate the unholy NATO meat grinder, you know society is in trouble.” Also read: ‘If he were a Democrat’: Marco Rubio says Trump would have won ‘Nobel Prize’ for Ukraine peace efforts Some questioned the irony of Anora being used to take a swipe at Trump. “This makes zero sense. The movie glorifies Russian warmongers. Is that how Hollywood ‘stands up to Russia’? By licking its boots and rewarding its propagandists? Pathetic,” one person wrote. Another added, “He could have said Trump.” (With inputs from agencies)

‘Stand up to a powerful Russian’: Oscars host Conan O’Brien mocks Trump over ugly spat with Zelensky | Watch

US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on his ex-national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, on Sunday (March 2), after the retired general claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was benefiting from Trump&rsquo;s actions.
Speaking over the weekend, McMaster suggested that Putin was &ldquo;cheering&rdquo; after Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, confronted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a recent Oval Office meeting.

<h2>'Putin couldn&rsquo;t be happier'</h2>
&ldquo;Vladimir Putin couldn&rsquo;t be happier. Because what he sees is all of the pressure on Zelensky, all of the pressure on Ukraine, and no pressure on him,&rdquo; McMaster said.
McMaster, who was removed from his role by Trump in 2018, claimed that Putin had successfully manipulated numerous world leaders, including Trump himself.
&ldquo;He appeals to President Trump&rsquo;s sense of aggrievement, right? That, you know, &lsquo;Donald, you know, like me, you know, you&rsquo;ve been treated so unfairly,&rsquo;&rdquo; McMaster said.

&ldquo;And he&rsquo;s been very successful at it because he&rsquo;s a master manipulator and one of the best liars in the world,&rdquo; he added.
McMaster suggested that Trump was being deceived.
&ldquo;And he&rsquo;s being played like other presidents have been played, like other leaders have been played, through that same playbook of Putin&rsquo;s,&rdquo; he added.
Trump appeared angered by the comments and responded aggressively on social media.

&ldquo;H.R. MCMASTER IS A WEAK AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE LOSER!&rdquo; Trump wrote in an all-caps message on Truth Social.
<h2>'Spend less time worrying about Putin'</h2>
In another post, he dismissed concerns over Putin, urging Americans to focus on domestic issues instead.
&ldquo;We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country&mdash;So that we don&rsquo;t end up like Europe!&rdquo; he wrote.

Trump&rsquo;s comments came after he met with Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Friday, during which he appeared to align himself with Putin in one respect. He complained that both he and the Russian leader had faced false accusations for years, particularly claims that Moscow interfered in his election campaigns, an allegation Trump has long attributed to his Democratic opponents.
&ldquo;Putin went through a hell of a lot with me. He went through a phony witch hunt where they used him and Russia, Russia,&rdquo; Trump said.
