Celebrated Brazilian singer Gal Costa, whose crystalline voice and transgressive sensuality made her the muse of the trailblazing "Tropicalia" movement in the 1960s, died Wednesday, her public relations agency said. She was 77.

With her mane of brown curls, seductive smile and versatile talent, Costa sang with some of the biggest names in Brazilian popular music from the '60s on, immortalizing many of their songs, including works by Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento and her lifelong friend Caetano Veloso.

She recorded a slate of hits including "Baby," "Que Pena," "Chuva de Prata" and "Divino Maravilhoso" across a nearly six-decade career that produced more than 30 albums and earned her a lifetime achievement award at the Latin Grammys in 2011.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we confirm the death of singer Gal Costa this morning" at her home in Sao Paulo, her agency said in a statement.

It did not specify the cause of death.

Confirmed! Comedian Jimmy Kimmel to host Oscars 2023

Comedian and actor Kathy Griffin got permanently banned from Twitter, not for her views but for impersonating Twitter's new boss, Elon Musk. Ever since the Tesla CEO has taken over microblogging site, a lot of changes are taking place, and the most recent was the warning issued to all millions of Twitter users for impersonating.

On Sunday, Kathy, who is known for speaking her mind, changed her handle and display image to Musk as she urged people to vote for Democrats in the upcoming midterm US election.

"After much-spirited discussion with the females in my life," "I have decided that voting blue for their choice is only right," her tweet with the hashtag "Vote Blue to Protect Women" reads.

Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter, the microblogging site has been flooded with news, hate comments, rumours and whatnot. This all began right after Musk took over the social media firm. He immediately fired the top three executives including the CEO, Parag Agarwal, CFO and the legal executive. The top three executives are expected to receive severance of nearly $122 million. Lots of changes have already happened at the firm or are in process. Especially, the change in staffing. After the three executives, the company's top sales and advertising officials announced their resignations. The first official mail was sent to the workers on Thursday (November 03) which informed them that their fate will be decided the next day, Friday (November 04). The mail sent on Friday confirmed the rumours that 50 per cent of the workers had lost their jobs. However, there was still no statement from Musk. After 24 hours, Musk on November 5 tweeted that there is no choice as the company is losing over four million dollars per month. Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 4, 2022 × After spending an entire week working on guidelines assigned, Cornet, an employee was fired after being informed via mail that he had violated the company's policies.
Migrant labourers from tiny villages and towns travel to large cities in the hopes of earning a livelihood and building a name for themselves. Every day, thousands of individuals board trains for metro cities across India, leaving their families and everything behind.

In 2020, when the world was forced to shut down due to the pandemic, migrant workers were the most impacted by the lockdown; their life was altered in a single day—no house, no employment, nothing. Vaishali Naik's latest short film ‘7 Star Dinosor Entertainment’ also depicts the story of two migrant labourers who lost everything in their lives thanks to the pandemic.

The 19-minute short film tells the story of two brothers, Sudhir and Vinod, who were earning well from their small business together, ‘7 Star Dinosor Entertainment.’ Dressed in Dinosaur costumes, they used to perform at local get-togethers, birthday parties, and malls. The two brothers were doing well until COVID-19 invaded our lives, halting public gatherings for nearly two years.

Obsessed with Hollywood dinosaur movies, both of them had worked hard to turn their lives around. But, the tragic situation has dashed all their hopes and dreams. After starving and fighting for two whole years, they have now reached a point when they have nothing to eat, situation is so dire that the only thing they have left to eat is a cake gifted by one of their wealthy clients, recently.

This fictitious story told in the guise of a documentary, attempts to depict the experience of thousands of migrant workers who face similar challenges in their life. Many attempted to return to their towns, but some got stuck, and the only thing they were left with was faith that everything would return to normalcy one day.

The 19-minute film tells us many poignant things about life and its struggles and difficulties. It also reminds us of the time, when many of us were kind of enjoying the lockdown, there were others who were struggling for food and starving. Like the dinosaurs, two human individuals became extinct in a country of millions; no one to care about their loss, no one with whom they could share their suffering, their anguish - they were just all alone.

Naik attempts to cover many serious subjects by giving a touch of humour, such as in one scene, where the younger brother is laughingly recounting a COVID-19 incident in which his elder brother Sudhir faked about having COVID in order to acquire some food from the hospital

The 19-minute drama is concise, with decent performances by Rahul Sahu as the younger brother and Kapil Dev as the older brother Sudhir.
The director has tried to tell the story of hundreds of migrant workers, and their difficulties in an effective way. Nonetheless, there were some points in the film that felt exaggerated. Overall, it's a good commentary on the life of thousands of migrant workers; everything in the film seems so genuine and accurate, from actors to set, however, there's still a sense of emptiness.

The torment story of two brothers may not be able to keep you hooked for straight 19 minutes, but it will undoubtedly make you think about migrant workers and how their lives have been terribly altered as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Here's some exciting news for all the Potterheads out there. Warner Bros. Discovery is once again planning to explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter, but only if author JK Rowling agrees to do so.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently hinted at the studio's interest in working on more films of the franchise. During a Q3 earnings call, David said, "We’re going to focus on franchises."

The Sandman', the Netflix series that is, respects his source material but the writing is thankfully not worshipful -- something that sunk Snyder's 'Watchmen'.
New research has led to a breakthrough extension of the shelf life of pasta. Scientists have achieved this through a special ingredient and a new form of packaging.

You may be wondering why is this even news. The answer is simple. Even though this may seem like insignificant research it can have noteworthy implications on the significantly problematic issue we call "food wastage".

Watch | WION Climate Tracker | Global food wastage poses major environmental problem

How is that?

New research has led to a breakthrough extension of the shelf life of pasta. Scientists have achieved this through a special ingredient and a new form of packaging. You may be wondering why is this even news. The answer is simple. Even though this may seem like insignificant research it can have noteworthy implications on the significantly problematic issue we call "food wastage". Scientists successfully extend shelf life of pasta. Here's why it's an important breakthrough

Musician Cormac Roth, the son of Hollywood actor Tim Roth has passed away. Roth, 25, breathed his last on October 16 after months-long battle with stage three cancer.

Cormac's family has confirmed the news via a statement.

“He was a wild and electric ball of energy and his spirit was filled with light and goodness.''

The statement further reads, via Variety, ''As wild as he was, Cormac was also the embodiment of kindness. A gentle soul who brought so much happiness and hope to those around him. The grief comes in waves, as do the tears and laughter when we think of that beautiful boy across the 25 years and 10 months that we knew him. An irrepressible and joyful and wild and wonderful child. Only recently a man. We love him. We will carry him with us wherever we go.”

Roth, 25, was diagnosed with stage 3 germ cell cancer known as choriocarcinoma last year in November. Taking to his Instagram account, the musician shared his diagnosis with all his fans and followers.

We are two years into the 2020s and in this short time the world has witnessed quite a rollercoaster of events; from the pandemic that forced everyone to isolate indoors, to the Russia-Ukraine war, it has been one hell of a ride. The one word that can appropriately describe this turbulence is "permacrisis", which has now even been awarded the accolade of 'word of the year'.

In a recent tweet, Collins dictionary announced that the one word that can appropriately sum up the year 2022 is 'Permacrisis'.

What does it mean?

The dictionary defines it as "an extended period of instability and insecurity".

As per Collins dictionary's language lovers blog "as we wonder bleakly what new horrors might be around the corner" the word "perfectly embodies the dizzying sense of lurching from one unprecedented event to another."

What other words topped the list?

'Partygate' the series of political scandals involving former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has made the cut. The popular word alludes to the social events held at British government buildings during 2020 and 2021, a time when public-health restrictions were in place due to Covid.

'Quiet quitting' which is the practice of doing only the assigned work without going out of the way is also there.

The 'Carolean' era is here and so is this word that is related to UK's new monarch, King Charles III ascending the throne.

Also included is 'warm banks' which are shared, heated spaces where "people who cannot afford to heat their own homes may go". This comes as the conflict between neighbours Russia and Ukraine has led to a fuel crisis.
