“I can only really talk about the time I was around the international game. India have had the likes of Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath but I think in the last 20 years would have to be close to their best seam-bowling line-up. And then spinners Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin as well. I think, it's probably the most-rounded bowling line-up and is probably the best bowling line-up to probably travel to all conditions,” McCullum told sports today.

Brendon McCullum's comments came two weeks ahead of the much-awaited World Test Championship that will be played between Virat Kohli's Team India and Kane Williamson's New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Team India are yet to begin training as they are quarantining in the Hilton Hotel, whereas, the BlackCaps are preparing to take on England in the final Test against the hosts after the first game ended in a draw at Lord’s.

Earlier, former Pak skipper Ramiz Raja alos said that Team India are at its very best in terms of the bowling unit, however, he pointed out a few concerns with the team's batting lineup.

"The Indian team is currently the best from a bowling point of view. On the batting front, I believe that there's still scope for improvement. Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, and Ganguly were a part of India's golden batting era. But from a winning point of view, especially in overseas conditions, the current Indian team has done a marvellous job. Coach Ravi Shastri also deserves credit for this," Raja explained.

Team India's heroics in Australia will be remembered for a long time in the world of cricket. India, without many of its star players, managed to end Australia's streak at the Gabba. Rishabh Pant's stellar performance, not only breached the fortress but also won an important series for India.

Australian batsman Usman Khwaja, who did not feature in the series, said that he followed the series closely and felt that India outplayed Australians in their home conditions and deserved to win.

"I don’t know. I just think that in Sydney also we had a game we probably should have won, could have won. Our bowlers couldn’t finish it off unfortunately and the same thing happened in Gabba. I thought we had enough runs to defend but if a team chases that many runs on the final day, it doesn’t matter where it is, they deserve to win. Because it’s not easy to chase runs in the fourth innings, no matter where you are in the world," Khawaja told Cricwick.

"I think at the end of the day, India were the better team. They played our fast bowlers better than we thought they would. They blunted our pace attack, they blunted Nathan Lyon and our bowlers couldn’t finish it off. It’s as simple as that. That can happen. That’s the beauty of cricket. I actually thought that was really good for the game."

Team India had begun their Test series with a catastrophic loss against Australia as Virat and Co. were bundled out on record-low 36 runs in Adelaide. With Virat Kohli leaving his team for paternity leave, it was an uphill task for Team India under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane to revive the series.

However, Team India won the very next Test match in Melbourne and equalled the series. Sydney was a big challenge for Team India, as the visitors survived the Test after R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari held on to the strike to help Rahane and Co. draw the match.

In the series decider, India were set to face Australians in the fort of Gabba. India won the match, after Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant's gritty knocks and sealed the series, increasing their chances to book a berth in the World Test Championship finals.

"In Australia there was a bit of outrage because obviously, we hadn’t lost in 13 years. But that’s the beauty of the game. What’s the point if you can’t lose somewhere? Both teams can win, right? Obviously, it was disappointing as an Australian fan but it was great for the game. To do it at the Gabba, no one ever expected it, particularly from India," Khawaja added.

Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar had objected to senior off-spinner R Ashwin being termed as an 'all-time great' in the game of cricket. As per his argument, Ashwin does not have a single five-wicket haul in SENA countries- South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia.

However, cricketing legend Ian Chappell disagreed with Manjrekar's observations and cited an exampling of West Indies stalwart Joel Garner's example and said that he too did not have many five-wicket hauls, but, he performed with three 'very fine players.

Manjrekar had further added that Ravindra Jadeja has matched Ashwin in India. He added that Axar Patel bagged 27 wickets in three matches, while Ashwin pocketed 32 wickets in four games in India's 3-1 Test series win against England, earlier this year.

Ian Chappell said that Axar left the English batsmen clueless as they were focused on Ashwin.

"I would like to make a couple of points there -- if you look at Joel Garner, I mean how many five-wicket hauls Joel Garner has? Not many, when you consider how good he was and his record. And why, because he was performing with three other very, very fine players. And I think, particularly of late, I find that the Indian attack has been so strong that the wickets are being shared around more. And the other point I would make is because of Ashwin's reputation I think the England players probably concentrated more on keeping Ashwin out and with Axar Patel, well, let's be blunt about it, they didn't have a bloody clue," Chappell added.

Australian legend Chappell also added that Ashwin is better than Nathan Lyon and he explained his reason behind the statement.

"I think Ashwin is a better bowler than Nathan Lyon. Have a look at Nathan Lyon's strike rate, you are in the 70s and I am going back to 2018. Nathan Lyon, to me, I think runs get scored through the onside when he is bowling to the right-handers and that really just shouldn't happen. Yes, he is a fine bowler but I think Ashwin is a better bowler," concluded Chappell.

Virat and Co. will take on Kane Williamson's New Zealand in the much-awaited World Test Championship finals that will take place on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The conditions in England are likely to favour the seamers, however, former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh feels that Virat Kohli and team management must use Ashwin and Jadeja to their advantage and test kiwi batsmen with spin.

“If I was in the team management, I would play both Ashwin and Jadeja. They can be a huge factor,” Maninder told Hindustan Times in an interview.

“There is going to be wear and tear anywhere as the Test match progresses. I keep talking to my friends there (in England) and they say it has become hot, these summer temperatures will soar. So if it is going to be the way it is then moisture won’t be that be effective. The pitch will dry out and spinners will start getting purchase and both are spinners are of good quality,” he added.

The spin duo has featured only once together in an overseas Test for Team India, which was played in 2014.

Ravindra Jadeja has proved his worth with not only the bowl but also with the bat. “Jadeja’s recent form with the bat has been exceptional. He has worked on his batting a lot. He gives you an extra option of having another bowler. The confidence of scoring runs has rubbed off on his bowling.”

Ashwin too has been prolific in with the bowl. The spinner has 14 scalps in six Test matches played in England.

“Ashwin is a class act. Ashwin has improved a lot and he can now get you wickets on any track, which was not the case when he first started touring overseas. He never used to give you the feeling that he was going for wickets. He didn’t have the belief. But now, with the experience he is a different bowler,” he said.

“We’ve seen how Ashwin bowls on Indian pitches. He has got to have that approach. When he bowls his aim should always be to get wickets. I have never had any doubt in my mind that he will give you wickets even on foreign soils. It depends on the team management. On Kohli and Shastri... How they keep motivating him. They've got to tell him 'you are going to get wickets for us.' Ravi Shastri has been brilliant in managing the players so far. He’ll have to go the extra mile if they want to win this WTC title.

“At this level cricketers hardly need advice. It’s that slight push. That believe that you are going to wickets even on foreign soil has to be there,” he signed off.

A young wicketkeeper who is going to dominate world cricket for a long, long time," Gavaskar said on the Analyst Show in YouTube.

"I believe that from what I have seen, from 1960 onwards, this has got to be the best Indian team ever. For the simple reason that it's so balanced. There is no weakness at all. The former Indian batsman has now given a piece of advice to Virat and Co, ahead of the WTC finals and England series.

"The thing is that once you get acclimatized, the important factor is that, to counter the extra movement, especially off the wicket, it’s important to stay side-on (batting stance). Don’t go for big drives to start with because the ball moves quite a bit and if you go for a big drive when you see a half volley, you are likely to end up in slips or anywhere. So just push the ball rather than going for the big drives," Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

"In England sometimes you get overcast conditions and the ball starts moving, then suddenly you get sunshine and it becomes a good batting wicket. You get different seasons in one day in England. So, you, as a batsman, are never settled. In India, once you are set and score 30 plus runs, you can score a big innings. But that doesn’t happen in England. You are never set as such, you know. The ball moves around quite a bit and you have to be careful."

Indian batsmen have failed to adapt to English conditions in the past decade.

"That has been a problem for the past 10 years now. Look, when you go to Australia, England, and New Zealand, the conditions are so different. You need practice matches to get acclimated to the conditions.

"So it's important for the BCCI also to organise more practice matches rather than having just one practice game before the start of the Test series. Otherwise, you struggle in the first Test match."

In April, Vihari made a disappointing debut for Warwickshire. He scored a 23-ball duck as he was dismissed by Stuart Broad.

"The overhead conditions play a part as well because when it is sunny, it gets a bit easier to bat, but when it is overcast, the ball moves all day," Vihari told ESPNcricinfo.

Vihari managed just one half-century in three County matches. He also said that his dismissal off Broad's dismissal pointed out the adjustments India's batsmen would have to make in England.

"I thought it was full enough for me to drive, but again, in England you have to be really certain with your shot selection," Vihari said.

"In India, you can get away with a push, or even if it is not there to drive, you can still get away driving on the up.

"If I were to play that ball a second time, I would try to play as late possible."

"In Australia it was more towards leg stump because there is no lateral movement there, so you can play beside the line of the ball," he added.

"Here, in England, you have to get more in line and judge the off stump more because of the movement of the ball."

Indian all-rounder Hanuma Vihari is all set to feature in the upcoming World Test Championship final against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. His county stint with Warwickshire has given him a much-needed experience with Dukes ball, as they will be used in the highly-anticipated finals.

The duo even talked about the mental well-being of players inside the bio-secure bubbles.

"Well, you never know, at the moment it is happening because of the current situation and the restrictions regarding travel. You never know, in the future, if you want to expand the game, especially the shorter formats of the game, then it could be the way to go. If you have that volume of cricketers, if you want to spread the T20 game across the globe, then it could be the way ahead. "You will see it during the Test series against England when you have to play five Tests in six weeks, it is no joke. Even the fittest will need a break. More than the physical part, it is the mental part. You can be destroyed mentally when you are being asked to do the same thing again and again. It is not easy to recover especially when you have a bad day. It is important to shuffle the guys around and keep them mentally fresh because of the circumstances prevailing," he added.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli also talked about the mental well-being of the players.

"With the current structure and the kind of structure we are competing inside, it is very difficult to stay motivated and find that mental space, being confined in one area and just doing the stuff day in and day out and dealing with pressure situations. This will definitely become a norm of the future, apart from the workload, the mental aspect will also come into the picture big time," said Kohli.

"Because you do not have an outlet at all in today's age. You are literally going to the ground and coming back to your room. You do not have space to disconnect from the game and step out for a walk. This is a huge factor that should not be neglected. As much hard work, we have done to create this team, you do not want players falling out because of not being able to have that capacity. You have to keep the channel open, we have done that and players can say that they need a break if they are not feeling okay," he added.

In an interview with Cricket Next, the 34-year-old expressed his disappointment for not being considered for Team India.

"I’m 34. If I’m performing well, better than a 22-23 year old, where is it written in the laws of the game that you’re not eligible to get picked for the national team? Who are those people judging you, and on ability are they judging you? By Ranji score? Fitness? If you’re scoring 800-900 runs consistently for two-three seasons, it means you have to be fit. Or you won’t be able to sustain it. So how can you be judged? Many a times I hear that ‘he’s above 30’. Where is it written that you can’t be picked? With less than a month away from the juggernaut clash between New Zealand and India, several players and cricketing experts have predicted which team will win the inaugural World Test Championship.

The event has now been granted an exemption by the UK government as outlined in The Health Protection (Corona Virus, International Travel, and Operator Liability) Regulations 2021, released on 17 May 2021.

As per the bio-safety protocols established for the event, in line with UK government and Public Health England requirements, the Indian Men’s team will arrive in the UK on 3 June 2021 via a charter flight and carrying evidence of a negative PCR Test. Prior to traveling, the party will have spent 14 days in a bio-secure environment in India during which regular testing will have taken place. Upon landing, they will proceed directly to the on-site hotel at the Hampshire Bowl where they will be tested again before commencing a period of managed isolation.

"All sports at the highest level are about competing. It is finding a way to win a game and gain an advantage over one's opponent. There will always be a fine line as to whether gamesmanship from a player or a team goes too far. Umpires and match referees will control this situation and penalties imposed if anything is unacceptable," said Hadlee.

"I quite like seeing any player expressing themself towards the opposition by having a real presence -- it is a form of intimidation that can be unsettling, and a tactic used by many sportspeople. Having said that, sportsmanship and fair play is still paramount, so it is finding that balance between doing what is right and expected from a player instead of going too far and bringing the game into disrepute," he added.

Cricket: Team India undergoing quarantine in two groups ahead of England tour

Few days ago, Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhimman Saha said that Rishabh Pant should be the team's first-choice keeper in England after playing well in the last few matches for Team India. Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has lauded Wriddhiman Saha for his statement and approach.

"Such things come out when you are true professionals. This is not an easy thing. Hats off to Wriddhiman Saha. I know him, we played together for the Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL. He is a very down-to-earth guy and he has said a fantastic thing. It shows his nobility, that he has spoken like that," said Butt.

Butt also pointed that it is a "very positive sign" for Indian cricket as players do not feel insecure.

"I see this as a very very positive sign for Indian cricket. This means whatever systems and policies they have, they have been successful to a large extent that their players don't feel insecure," said Butt.

"When you don't feel insecure and you don't have hesitation in saying what is better for the team, that means your system, policies and grooming have won because you realize that you are also there but at the moment the other person is better and should play," signed off Butt.

In an interview with Sportskeeda, Saha had said: “Rishabh Pant played the last few matches of the World Test Championship, he’s done well and he should be our first-choice keeper in England. I would just wait, and if any opportunity arises, I will give my best. I will keep practising for that one chance.”

Wriddhiman Saha is in the squad that will tour to England for the highly-anticipated World Test Championship Finals against New Zealand, followed by five-match Test series against Root and Co. The player from Bengal was down with COVID-19, however, he has recovered and is set to join the squad in the pre-departure bio-bubble in Mumbai next week. BCCI on Thursday had announced Andhra wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat as the 25th member which was supposedly a cover for Wriddhiman Saha.

“This time I wasn’t expecting a call-up. But yes, when England toured India and some of our spinners were injured, I felt somewhere that my name might pop up,” Chahal told Sports Tak.

“You see Axar came in and did well. Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep are already there, so you feel that 3-4 players are already in the reckoning and it will be difficult for you to get a chance. Especially when they are performing so well. Ashwin bhaiyya completed 400 Test wickets and Jaddu Pa has over 250 wickets. Looking at them you feel that you have to improve more to get a chance,” Chahal admitted.

“Obviously, you want to wear the whites. If someone calls you a Test player, there is no bigger compliment. In the last 3-4 years, I have picked 50 wickets in the ten first-class matches, out of which two are India A games,” Chahal revealed.

Chahal is set to travel to Sri Lanka for a limited-over series under coach Rahul Dravid. Yuzvendra Chahal made his debut for Team India after leaving a mark in the Indian Premier League. His partnership with Kuldeep Yadav was the most lethal. However, there has been a drop in his form after the 2019 World Cup. Chahal has played 17 T20Is and has picked up 17 wickets, with a bad economy rate of 9.13. In ODIs, Chahal has 8 wickets in five matches.

"I'd look at it from who you want to perform individually against. I look at India at the moment… and it's like playing golf against your boss. You're allowed to win but just in the right way. You know, we stitched them up in New Zealand a couple of times and it always felt a little bit dirty afterwards. It didn't feel like we'd really beaten them," Richardson said on Spark Sport.

Richardson feels that England, Australia and India are the best when it comes to international cricket. He said: "England, yes… they invented the game and you're always playing for your place as a cricket team, I guess. But Australia to me was like the proving ground for a New Zealand cricketer. You went there to prove your mettle and I did it and I'll take that to the grave actually. I'd probably still need help over what happened in Australia. I think they still hold it over us. Even the very best have underperformed against Australia."

Team India are set to take on New Zealand in the finals of the World Test Championship at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Virat and Co. will be looking to continue their domination in red-ball cricket and also redeem themselves from a series loss against the Kiwis.

"Dravid was really invested in India becoming the best team in the world. Sadly, not everyone in the team had the same feeling. They would rather concentrate on being in the team. There was some resistance from some of the senior players, because some of them were coming to the end of their careers," Chappell revealed on Cricket Life Stories Podcast.

He recalled the time when he axed Sourav Ganguly as captain and dropped him. He said it sent a message across the team.

"When Sourav got dropped from the team, we had a lot of attention from the players, because they realized if he can go, anyone can go. We had a great 12 months, but then the resistance got too much, Ganguly came back into the team. The message from the players was loud and clear – 'We don't want change.' Even though the board offered me a new contract, I decided that I did not need that kind of stress," Chappell added.

“The two years in India were challenging on every front. The expectations were ridiculous. Some of the issues were around Sourav being captain. He didn’t particularly like working hard. He wasn’t really looking to improve his cricket. He just wanted to be in the team as captain, so that he could control things. I had other approaches but I decided that since John Buchanan was coaching Australia… And If I couldn’t coach Australia then I would love to coach the most populous, fanatical cricket country in the world, and that opportunity came about because Sourav, who was the captain, made sure that I did.”

In an interview with Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin last month, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly said that getting dropped was the 'biggest setback'.

“That was the biggest setback of my career,” Ganguly said.

“It was absolute injustice. I know you can’t get justice all the time but even then that treatment could have been avoided. I was the captain of the team which had just won in Zimbabwe and I get sacked after returning home?”

From the battle of early cricketing years, injuries to a significant disturbance in close to home life a couple of years back - he has endured everything.

The experience has hardened him up such a lot that he favors an accept it-as-it-comes mentality throughout everyday life - and it's the same with regards to significant tasks like the World Test Championship finale against New Zealand one month from now or the five-Test arrangement against England which follows. Mohammed Shami said as a senior individual from the squad, the sensation of duty comes naturally to him.

The line-up of quick bowlers in the kind-sized Indian squad is very stunning with Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur while there are three promising tyros as stand byes.

‘‘We have played some extraordinary cricket in recent times as a unit and naturally, the confidence level is high on the eve of our departure for England. If we can reproduce some form which we did see over the last six months, I am confident it will be a great summer for us,’’ – he added.

Lamentably, however, Shami couldn't be a part of the purple fix as he was struck on the elbow by a Pat Cummins while batting during the day-night first Test in Adelaide Oval - which governed him out of the remainder of the series just as the England series which followed. In any case, regardless of arranging a rebound to serious cricket after almost four months, Shami showed no corrosion as he dove head-first into the IPL crusade for his team Punjab Kings.

‘‘The experience over the years has helped me to learn to look after my body. I know how much training is needed, how to keep myself hydrated etc - all these factors must have also helped’’ – he said

Looking forward at what might be his way to deal with bowling in England, where his strong reverse swing could be at a higher cost than normal, Shami felt it would rely upon the conditions.

‘‘I do not believe in overthinking about what my approach will be. I found my rhythm back in the IPL and the rest, of course, depends on the conditions,’’ he said.

Mohammed Shami is just 20 wickets short of turning into the fifth Indian pacer to achieve 200 wickets in Tests. The fast bowler will be eager to accomplish the milestone on the impending visit through England.

Vijay Shankar hasn't been at his best, with irregularities and injuries making him fade from Team India's set-up. The all-rounder, who knows about what he needs to do to get his vocation in the groove again, uncovered he is available to exchanging his state team to get more freedom with the bat.

The 30-year-old right now carries out his specialty for Tamil Nadu in homegrown cricket, however, he has discovered opportunities difficult to find as of late. Frequently coming in to bat down the order, Vijay Shankar feels he needs a predictable run at the top-order to demonstrate his mettle.

He addressed IANS about his possibilities, with Vijay Shankar laying out his objective to bat at No.4 or 5 for Tamil Nadu.

“I got into India reckoning after I performed with the bat at No. 5, I want to be in the game all the time. I have thought about changing my state team so that I can get to bat at either No. 4 or No. 5. But let's see. I hope Tamil Nadu pushes me up the order," - he said.

Nonetheless, one name that has been pushed to the sidelines is that of Vijay Shankar. The Tamil Nadu cricketer was important for India's 2019 World Cup squad, where he played three matches and scored 58 runs before a lower leg injury precluded him. When he recuperated, the Indian team had proceeded onward towards the new course, which implied the entryway was closed on Vijay Shankar. Additionally, the absence of a decent show in the IPL – 155 runs from 14 matches across two seasons made it intense for Vijay Shankar to get back to the contention.

“I don't compare myself with others. I have been bowling well for my franchise. But I have not had a very good time with the bat. Last season in the IPL, out of five innings, I walked in four times with the team chasing 10 or 12 an over. It is a challenge for anyone to take on the bowlers from the start,” - he added.

Notwithstanding Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, India's all-round department shows up somewhat powerless. Hardik Pandya at this point can't bowl the number of overs he used to, which makes it much more interesting. With regards to India's next all-rounder, the names of Shivam Dube and Krunal Pandya ring a bell, however, neither have done what's necessary for the opportunities they have got.

“I did well in the limited opportunities I got for India. Even in the last T20 International series during the tour of New Zealand, I got some good scores while batting at No. 3 and 4. It is not that I had performed badly. I did well. My batting position was never certain. I batted at different places. In 12 ODIs, I got to bat eight or nine times and on five of those occasions, I went in with the asking rate being too high. I know that in cricket you have to be good enough to perform at any stage. But sometimes it doesn't come off or gets difficult," - he signed off.

In the event that Vijay Shankar can demonstrate his value as an all-rounder, he can unquestionably get back to India's white-ball setup. India can truly do with somebody of Vijay Shankar's type yet the 30-year-old would not like to get back in the team only for filling the all-rounder's position. Despite the fact that Vijay Shankar feels he has shown improvement over most, he needs to get back in the retribution based on something concrete.

‘I think I have definitely done better than most’ – Vijay Shankar eyes Team India comeback

Australia's Test captain Tim Paine received a lot of heat for his recent comments on Team India. Paine recently commented that the Indian cricket team are good at 'niggling' and 'creating sideshows'.

On Thursday, Tim Paine was asked by reporters about the series defeat to Team India in Australia to which he said: "Part of the challenge of playing against India is they're very good at niggling you and trying to distract you with stuff that doesn't really matter and there were times in that series where we fell for that," Paine had told news.com.au.

"The classic example was when they said they weren't going to the Gabba so we didn't know where we were going. They're very good at creating these sideshows and we took our eye off the ball."

Paine's remarks did not go down well with fans as they called his statement 'lame' and 'tasteless' and many felt that the Aussie was making excuses for a disappointing loss.

However, Tim Paine clarified his comments on the 'Gilly and Goss podcast'. He said: "I was asked a number of things, and one of those was talking about the challenges of playing against India. One of them was the distraction they can create. There was a lot of talk that they weren't going to Brisbane. They're always changing gloves and bringing out physios and all that can get on your nerves. Just that was one of the things that probably distracted me and took my eye of the ball at times."

"But also, I did say that they simply outplayed us and that they deserved to win but they left that one out. The Indian fans have been slamming me on social media. They say that I'm making excuses again but it's all good fun."

He went on to talk about the Indian fans, who trolled the Aussie captain a number of times in the past.

"I love the Indian fans. I don't mind getting a bit of stick, particularly when you deserve it. They ripped me off when I dropped those catches, I thought that was totally fair. Look, I love the passion, I love how much they love cricket. I love how much they interact and for some people, it is a positive interaction, but most of the time they are into me. But I don’t mind that," Paine added.

"Today, Siraj has overtaken all these guys, he's giving you wickets consistently on both Indian and Australian soil. So I am sure Siraj is far ahead now. 'Had only heard about it': Abhimanyu Easwaran on training with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra feels that opener Prithvi Shaw was badly treated by Team India and his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals last year and said that he always back players like Shaw and Rahane in the T20 format.

Shaw was dropped from the Indian team after a poor show in the Test series against Australia and got replaced by Shubman Gill, who played defining knocks. The Mumbai-based batsman scored 0 and 2 in the first Test in Adelaide.

"It's one thing that India went on to win the series (Border-Gavaskar trophy) but even then, I felt that he (Prithvi Shaw) shouldn't have been benched after one Test match. Even during last year's IPL, I felt he shouldn't have been dropped. He played a few good innings but couldn't score runs. But I will always back a player who has more runs than Rahane, when you talk of T20 cricket. I'm not saying that Rahane is not a good player, but in T20 cricket you need explosive players like Shaw, Pant, Stoinis and Hetmyer," Nehra said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.

"As far as technique is concerned, for any player it is difficult to adjust. Even during the Adelaide Test, he wasn't a player who had a lot of experience or played 30-40 Test matches. We were talking about a youngster. To drop him on the basis of one Test match was tough," Nehra added.

However, Shaw was reportedly asked to shed some weight in order to be considered for selection in Team India. Shaw was dropped from the Indian team after a poor show in the Test series against Australia and got replaced by Shubman Gill, who played defining knocks.

According to a report in the Times of India, the batsman has been told by the BCCI to 'shed a few kilos' if he is to make his way back to the national team.

“Prithvi is still very slow across the turf for a 21-year-old. He needs to shed a few more kilos. He also had concentration issues while fielding in Australia. Shaw has been working hard since he returned from Australia. He has the example of Rishabh Pant right in front of him. If Pant can turn things around in a few months, Prithvi too can do it,” the BCCI source said.

Pant's career took a turn for the best after the Indian wicketkeeper shed few kilos. He outstood as the wicketkeeper and a batsman for Team India by playing a crucial role in breaching the Fortress of Gabba and England series.

“He has to sustain this form for a few more tournaments. He has often been picked on the basis of one good series and then he has struggled in international cricket, He is too good a player to be ignored for long,” the source explained.

Team India will hope to turn into the debut World Test Championship victors when they take on New Zealand one month from now. From that point forward, Virat Kohli's men will direct their concentration toward the marquee England series and desire to charge better compared to what they did last time; Team India lost 1-4 in the 2018 series.
