India have been very consistent in T20Is since 2020 despite not having a great run in the last two T20 World Cups. In 2021, the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue bowed out of the Super 10 round whereas India, under Rohit Sharma, reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 WC but crashed out with a ten-wicket loss at the hands of eventual winners England. Since last year's T20 WC, in Australia, India have been led by Hardik Pandya as Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and few other seniors have not featured in the shortest format, to concentrate on the longer formats due to the upcoming&nbsp;WTC final, in June, and ODI World Cup later this year.

Under Hardik, India defeated the likes of New Zealand (both home and away) and Sri Lanka in the shortest format.&nbsp;

The ICC revealed that India's rating points have improved to 267 whereas Jos Buttler's England are on 259. "India had a below-par T20 World Cup in 2021 but bounced back with a semi-final appearance in 2022. The Men in Blue have been terrific in T20Is since May 2020, having lost just the one bilateral series (against Sri Lanka in 2021), emerging victorious in 13 other series while one ended in a draw (against South Africa in 2022)," the ICC said.

"The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2020, with those completed prior to May 2022 weighted at 50 per cent and every subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent," it further stated. Meanwhile, New Zealand (256) also made a two-spot jump from No. 5 to No. 3 in the latest update.

It is to be noted that India have also dethroned Australia to take the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings.

Uthappa's comments have an element of truth as Mumbai have conceded 200+ runs three times in eight matches and those three instances have come in their last three games. Mumbai's best bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not available for the season due to a back injury and their other superstar, Jofra Archer, hasn't hit the sweet spot yet.

The five-time champions, although, have the express abilities of Riley Meredith, but the pace has gone off plenty in the current IPL season. As for the spin department, veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has held the fort down on his own with others like Hrithik Shokeen playing second fiddle to him without much impact.

With the season just past its halfway stage, Mumbai must figure out their bowling soon if they want to stay alive, else the tough competition in the middle, which already has five teams on the same number of points, would be too much for them to break through.

IPL 2023: Ex-CSK batter Robin Uthappa laments Mumbai's bowling

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is very impressed with Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal after the latter hit a magnificent century in Indian Premier League's (IPL) 1000th game on Sunday, April 30.

“I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, he’s taken it to the next level. I asked him ‘where did you get the power from’. He said he’s been going to the gym, that’s good for him, India and RR,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation after MI beat RR.

Jaiswal, who scored 124 off just 62 balls, was adjudged 'Player of the Match' despite Rajasthan losing the game by six wickets. During his innings, Jaiswal hit 16 fours and eight sixes as the Royals scored a mammoth 212/7 in their 20 overs.

Speaking on his innings after the match, Jaiswal said he wants to focus on the process and work hard. “When I completed my century, I didn’t know whether the ball went to the boundary. So I thanked God for everything. That was the highlight. Days like this definitely can happen. I want to focus on the process and work hard, and have the belief. I have been positive and am maintaining a good, fit lifestyle which is helping. The straight drive is my straight drive,” said the left-handed batsman.

Chasing 213, Mumbai lost skipper Rohit early but Cam Green and Ishan Kishan added 62 runs for the second wicket at a brisk pace. &nbsp;Suryakumar Yadav then scored a belligerent 55 off 29 balls after Green and Kishan fell in short span. Royals pulled things back after Yadav's wicket but Tim David joined forces with Tilak Varma as the duo added 62 runs on 23 balls to take Mumbai home.

Varma remained not out on 29 off 21, holding one end, while David exploded for unbeaten 45 off 14 balls including three consecutive sixes on first three balls of the last over by Jason Holder as Mumbai won in 19.3 overs.

Till IPL&nbsp;2022, a total of 951 matches were held in the cash-rich league. This meant that match number 49 of the&nbsp;current season would be adjudged as the 1,000th game. However, in between these 951 fixtures, as many as seven matches were played which were called off with no result.&nbsp;

Notably, not even a single ball was bowled in these seven&nbsp;fixtures, but all of them were declared official matches as per cricketing rules. Thus, a total of 958 official games were held till the end of the 2022 edition,&nbsp;making this year's 42nd match IPL's 1,000th encounter.

Speaking after MI's historic win in IPL's landmark game, captain Rohit Sharma (who was also celebrating his 36th birthday and ten years as Mumbai's captain on Sunday evening), said, "Very pleasing to see how we chased this. Last game here also we came close to a similar target. We have the ability but need to back ourselves."

On David being regarded as the next Kieron Pollard, Rohit added, "Big shoes to fill, Polly for so many years won us so many championships. But Tim has so much ability and power. In the back end, having that power keeps the bowler thinking."

David, who struck a magnificent 14-ball 45* and ended the game with three straight sixes in the final over, stated, "We needed a result. It is an amazing feeling, there's no better feeling than playing at the Wankhede,&nbsp;for our confidence. We have not played our best cricket in the last few games, so this feels good. It felt everyone (bowler) had to be targeted, in good batting conditions, and personally, I wanted to do something like this for a while."

Meanwhile, a dejected Samson said, "It was kind of getting wet. It was not too wet and we were taking our time to wipe the ball. We had the experience of bowling in these conditions. We will keep focusing on the process. We will keep the focus on the controllable. We will keep fighting hard."

On Jaiswal's superb knock, Samson opined, "I was expecting something special from Jaiswal. He scored 70-odd in the last game, we always thought it (hundred) is around the corner."

Suman, who alongside Rohit and Andrew Symonds, moved to Mumbai Indians in 2011, said,&nbsp;

“After 2010, what I know about Rohit Sharma was, he wanted captaincy of Deccan Chargers. After 2010, when the auction was there. The franchise also promised him, but then I don’t know what happened. The franchise went to leave all the players, then we know what happened to Deccan Chargers. Rohit, I, and Symonds, all of us came to Mumbai Indians,” Suman told India Today.

He added that from the beginning itself, Rohit showed why he was a captain material as he even used to advice Gilchrist. Suman said Rohit was smart, and also used to think like a captain while batting.

“He was a very smart player, and even when batting, he used to think like a captain. He used to give advice and suggestions to Gilly (Gilchrist) at that time. I knew from the start, he was a captain material,” T Suman added.

Elaborating further on what made him think that Rohit would break the walls in future with his captaincy and his batting, Suman said since both used to share partnerships for DC and MI, Suman used to pick Rohit’s brains, and more often than not, Rohit’s ideas used to baffle him.&nbsp;

Kieron Pollard, the team’s batting coach and one of the players in the MI setup, when Rohit took over captaincy in the middle of the season in 2013, said, “He’s grown as a leader. I mean he’s grown into leadership. Obviously, it was entrusted onto him in 2013 in the middle of a season. He was still pretty young at that point in time.”

Pollard said that in spite of being young when he first took charge, Rohit was a quick learner and always showed leadership potential. “That shows you that a person has a great acumen of what he can accomplish and we are lucky to have him as a leader. He has a wealth of experience, so it’s a matter of tapping into that and continuing to see him grow.”

Terming Rohit’s career so far as “incredible”, bowling coach Shane Bond emphasised the impact that Rohit has had as a personality. “He’s such a big personality around our group, on and off the field and particularly in leading this team to where we are now, he has done a brilliant job.”

Suryakumar Yadav, said that Rohit’s numbers as captain speak for themselves and his journey with MI has been an incredible story. “Here we are in his 10th year as captain. Boucher added that pacer Jofra Archer was fit and available for selection. He also backed Archer to bowl well at the death, an area that has sometimes been a concern for the five-time champions.

“We all know what Jofra can do. He has been a fantastic bowler for many years now. He adds a different dimension to our attack, obviously some good pace. He can bowl with the new ball and at the death as well. It has been an area (death bowling) where we have struggled a bit, so he can hopefully come in and fulfill that role for us by bowling in those situations,” Boucher said.

Speaking to IndiaToday, Prasad said, "It’s a fair team, it’s the right call. Ajinkya&nbsp;with so much of uncertainty in the middle-order, I think they (selectors) were absolutely right. I am very, very happy for him. He has always been a wonderful performer for India in the away series. And I think he fits the bill perfectly. Full credit to the selectors for bringing him back."

Arjun Tendulkar alone gave away 31 runs in the 16th over that saw the momentum shift in favouring of the away side at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

"Yes, a little disappointment there, we made some errors in the field which can happen, not gonna look too much into that (On his side's death bowling). Just keep our heads high, we have won three and lost three, pretty even-stevens at the moment,” Rohit said after the final-over defeat to PBKS.

Adding on the luck factor, Rohit emphasised that situations won’t be favouring his team and said they cannot look down and start worrying about matters. MI have lost three and won three in the IPL so far and are in the mix for the playoff spot.

“There is a lot of time left in the tournament. We cannot look down and start worrying about things. Yes, we did not come out on top today,” Rohit added.

On the horizon, Rohit also spoke on the strong points of the team and how Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green helped Mumbai Indians stay in the contest. Mumbai lost the wickets of Surya and Green at the wrong times while Tim David was kept off strike in the final over when they needed 16 runs.

Chahal said since joining RR, he improved at least 10%, and all is because of Sanju Samson. He also added that Sanju told him to bowl however and wherever he likes in his quota of four overs, instead giving him instructions to sticking to a particular line or length.

"In IPL, Sanju Samson is definitely my favourite. I feel like he is literally very similar to Mahi bhai as like him, he is very calm and chill. The 10 per cent or whatever growth I have had as a bowler in the last year, it is all because of Sanju. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has praised youngster Tilak Varma for show he has put on since making his debut in IPL last year. Varma, who started with the Indians in IPL 2022, has scored 214 runs in five matches so far in 2023 at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 158.52.

"We watched Tilak last season, and he showed what he can do with the bat, and he's not looked away from it this year as well," said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation after MI beat SRH on Tuesday. "What I like about his game is his approach. He's not playing the bowler, he's playing the ball, which is quite important," he added.

Rohit also went on to predict a bright future for the left-handed batsman and said that he'll be playing for different teams soon.

Notably, Varma has been the bright spot in Mumbai lackluster season which is getting on the track slowly with three wins in last three matches.

In 2022, Tilak scored 397 runs in 14 matches with two fifties and at an average of 36. His strike was also near 131 and he was not out three times batting down the order.

Seeing his talent, MI promoted him a little up the order this season and he instantly repaid the faith shown in him with an innings of 84 not out off 46 balls in MI's season opener against RCB. On a pitch where all the other Mumbai batters struggled, Tilak looked ever so elegant in his knock as he helped MI post a competitive total of 171.

RCB, however, won the match by eight wickets, but Tilak made an instant impact after which MI have stuck to him playing in the upper middle-order only.

Having been on 5986 runs before the start of the contest, Rohit needed 14 runs to reach the milestone. On the second ball of the third over, Rohit hit the second of his three consecutive fours to complete 6000 runs in IPL history. Smashing Washington Sundar all over the place, Rohit joined Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner to reach the milestone.

The Indian captain has enjoyed a stellar career in the IPL, having lifted the trophy on six occasions and is also the most successful captain in the history of the tournament with five titles. Rohit first burst onto the IPL scene in 2008 with Deccan Chargers and would add his first IPL title in 2009 when the edition was played in South Africa. He would then leave Deccan Chargers for Mumbai Indians in 2011 and has been a pivotal figure in their success since then.

It took Rohit 232 matches (227 innings) to complete 6000 runs and has scored 41 fifties and one hundred in the IPL.

IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma becomes fourth player to complete 6000 runs; joins Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan

Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam created history with his latest hundred in the second T20I against New Zealand. Azam scored 101 not out of 58 balls as Pakistan managed 192/4 in their 20 overs.&nbsp;

The latest hundred by Azam was his third in T20Is - the most by a captain in T20Is, pipping India's Rohit Sharma who has two hundreds in T20Is as skipper. Pakistan skipper Babar Azar surpasses India's Rohit Sharma with hundred in 2nd T20I against New Zealand

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Dinesh Karthik, who has had a horrid IPL 2023 so far, etched his name in the history for all the wrong reasons in the match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 15.

The RCB batsman came to crease in the 15th over and lasted only one ball as he was dismissed by DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the first ball itself. With his latest duck, Karthik now jointly holds the record of most ducks in IPL history with Mandeep Singh. Both Karthik and Mandeep have registered 15 ducks in their IPL career so far.

Notably, this is was Karthik's second duck of the 2023 season in which he has managed just 10 runs across four matches including a &nbsp;highest score of nine runs.

Apart from Karthik and Mandeep, Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 14 ducks to his name. KKR spinner Sunil Narine gives Rohit company with equal number of ducks on the list.

Coming to the RCB vs DC match, Bangalore eventually won the game by 23 runs but that has more to do with DC's horrible batting instead of RCB's bowling.

Batting first, RCB were cruising along at 132/3 in 12.2 overs when three quick wickets from DC spinners put some breaks on their innings. RCB could finally manage 172/6 in their 20 overs with Virat Kohli, who notched up 50 off 34, being the top-scorer.

Chasing 173, DC once again lost opener Prithvi Shaw for a team score of one run as Shaw ran himself out for a duck. RCB bowlers then took charge and reduced DC to three down for two runs in 2.2 overs. Delhi could never recover from the early jolts even as Manish Pandey scored 50.

Some contributions from the lower order took DC past 150 as they managed just 151/9 in their 20 overs. RCB's debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 20 in his four overs.&nbsp;

Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma adds another feather to his cap, joins hands with Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma finally came back in form against Delhi Capitals as he scored a nonchalant 65 off 45 in his team's first win of the season.

With the fifty, Rohit also eclipsed Virat Kohli as the player with most runs against Delhi Capitals. After his 50, Rohit now has 977 runs against Delhi at an average of 32.56 in 33 matches. Rohit scored these runs at a strike rate of 131.14 along with the highest score of 74 not out.

Rohit's matches included both the teams he has played for in the IPL, i.e., Deccan Charges from 2008-11 and Mumbai Indians afterwards. RCB's Virat, on the other hand, has scored 925 runs in 26 matches against Delhi at an average of 51.38 and a strike rate of 134.05 with the highest score of 99.

Coming to the match, &nbsp;Rohit was aggressive since the start as MI chased a target of 173. He, along with opening partner Ishan Kishan, added 71 runs for the first wicket. Kishan also scored a handy 31 off 26. After Kishan got out, Rohit found a strong partner in Tilak Verma who was promoted up the order. The duo added 68 runs for the second wicket before Verma fell on a personal score of 41 off 29.

Rohit eventually got out in the 17th over of the chase at the team score of 143 but his innings had made sure that MI don't have much to sweat about.

Delhi, on the other hand, once again misfired as a batting unit. Apart from skipper David Warner, who scored 51 off 47 - his third fifty-plus score in four matches, no top-order batsman could hang around. Axax Patel, from the lower-middle order, scored a quickfire 54 of 25 to help Delhi reach a decent target of 172 in 19.4 overs.

For Mumbai, veteran spinner Piyush Chawla was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/22 in his four overs and ratting DC's middle order. Speedster Jason Behrendorff also picked up 3/23 in his three overs.
