India's run to the top in this WTC cycle saw several match-winning performances from a few individuals that are not available now. As per Rohit, Cheteshwar Pujara - who is currently plying his trade in the County Championship, and Ravi Ashwin, they need to be thanked for their efforts.

Considering India is missing services of Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer - all of whom are nursing respective injuries and are out for an indefinite period, Pujara said they must be credited, alongside everyone in the team, for the collective effort that led the side to this point.

“There have been many players who have contributed to the team. Some of them are not part of this squad currently, but it’s important that we recognise all the players that have contributed in this cycle,” Pujara said.

“It’s been a great team effort… the team management, captain, everyone has been looking forward to this moment where we qualify for the WTC finals and the guys are really excited to play at The Oval. We’ve got some good memories playing against England in UK. Overall, if I look at the last couple of years, it’s been a very good journey for the Indian Test team,” Ravi Ashwin added.

Meanwhile, the second batch of Indian players will fly after the end of IPL 2023, which finishes with the final on May 28th.

The Mumbai skipper laid the foundation for his team to chase down a huge target of 201 runs in just 18 overs as they beat SRH by eight wickets. This was Mumbai's eighth win in 14 league matches and they edged RCB to clinch the fourth spot in playoffs behind Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

The Mumbai opener hasn't had best of the seasons in Indian Premier League (IPL), having scored just 257 runs in 13 matches before the match against SRH. Rohit, however, came in form just in time and smacked second fifty of the 2023 season. With his fifty, Sharma also completed 5,000 runs for Mumbai Indians - becoming the second player in the league history behind Virat Kohli to score 5,000 or more runs for one franchise in IPL.

IPL 2023: MI skipper Rohit equals Virat's twin milestones with 57 against SRH

Cameron Green's maiden IPL hundred and a much-needed fifty from captain Rohit Sharma ensured an eight-wicket win for Mumbai Indians over SunRisers Hyderabad on Sunday.&nbsp;

Asked to bat first, SunRisers Hyderabad saw a new opening pair in Vivrant Sharma and returning batsman Mayank Agarwal taking strides. With nothing to lose, SRH's batters came all guns blazing against an inexperienced Mumbai bowling attack. The left-hand-right-hand combination did wonders for them as both stitched a maiden 100-run-plus stand and completed their respective fifties in the process.

<h2>Green justifies price tag, hits ton when team needed the most</h2>

Mumbai, who needed to win this win at any cost to stay alive in the race for the playoffs, got off to a flyer with Ishan Kishan taking control of things. With Rohit also contributing with runs, the pair laid the foundation&nbsp;for batters to unleash.

Something similar happened as Bhuvneshwar dismissed him for 14 inside the Powerplay.&nbsp;Australia's Cameron Green came in and began from where he had left. The dynamite pair took the attack to the opposition and put up a hundred-plus run stand in the blink of an eye. It's fair to say a few dropped catches also contributed towards it.

While Green kept going about his business by muscling to all parts of the ground, it was fifty from Rohit Sharma that pleased all those who were&nbsp;watching.

As a 128-run partnership brought the former champions closer to the chase, Nitish Reddy's superb catch at backward point accounted for Rohit's dismissal on 56 from 37 balls. Green and Suryakumar Yadav then took on the onus&nbsp;to hunt down another 200-plus total at the iconic Wankhede.

Australia's Green slammed his maiden IPL hundred on 47 balls as he helped Mumbai chase down 201 with eight wickets in hand. With this, they have already put one foot in the playoffs as the result of the RCB vs GT game will eventually determine the final team who will advance to the playoffs.

Normally the wickets that I've played on at The Oval have started as really good batting wickets, and actually have offered a little bit to the spinners as the game's going on."

Speaking as an expert on Cricbuzz, Doull said Rohit must let go of the captaincy as he's already leading India in two formats.&nbsp;

"I was a big proponent of him [Virat Kohli] giving up the captaincy of RCB, much like I am with Rohit, now that he is the captain of India. I just think this is the tournament where he needs to be free and just play,” Doull said on Cricbuzz, as quoted in India Today.

Explaining further what he meant, Doull said looking at how Kohli benefitted after resigning as a captain, Rohit must follow the same path as he deserves to play freely and score runs.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, former South African captain Faf du Plessis replaced Kohli, and the pair wreaked havoc this season, contributing with more than 800 runs at the top.

"When I talked about Virat and the captaincy, it was like every pressure was on him. Indian captaincy, three formats, RCB captaincy, and just to see that taken away, and it was never going to go to someone who he wasn't going to respect. So there are only two or three players in world cricket that could have gone to Bangalore and been captain,” Doull added

In 13 matches this season, Rohit has scored just 257 runs at an average of 19.77 and a strike rate of 131.12. With MI currently placed fifth on the points table with 14 points from 13 matches, they will only qualify for the playoffs if they win their final league match against SunRisers Hyderabad at home.

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) lost to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five runs as they failed to chase down a 178-run target in match 63 of the IPL 2023 edition on Tuesday (May 17), in Lucknow. Opting to bowl first, MI had reduced LSG to 35 for 3 before Marcus Stoinis' 47-ball 83* helped his side post a competitive 177 for 3. In reply, Rohit-Ishan Kishan's 90-run opening stand led to Mumbai's strong start before they lost the plot in the second half of their run-chase to lose by five runs, managing only 172 for 5.

During MI's opening stand, Rohit started on a positive note. He looked in his elements and smacked few biggies. Chopra told Hindustan Times, "I won't see his (Rahul's) case to be in isolation in any way, to begin with. I feel the next generation of cricketers for this format is almost getting ready and the previous generation of players will find it increasingly difficult to be a part of the new template. If India, as they said in the last T20 World Cup that they are looking for a new template to play T20 cricket in, continue to play in the same fashion, you will see a lot of the previous generation players not being part of the T20 scheme of things."

Chopra further asserted, "For Yashasvi I have in fact kept a timeline. I feel he will be in the Indian team in the next 90 days. The other one I feel is Rinku Singh and it is time to take him a lot more seriously. Those five sixes weren't a fluke. He has scored around 400 or more runs and the strike rate at which they have been scored and from that batting position, there is no other option available. Remember, these two aren't just a T20 phenomenon."

So far in the IPL 2023, Rohit has scored&nbsp; 184 runs with only fifty to his name and clearly has been a shadow of himself. He has averaged 18.40 so far in the IPL 2023 and has been striking at 127.

Interestingly, not since 2020 has Rohit hit multiple fifties in his IPL which is another major concern for the franchise and the India skipper.

"And then comes the challenge of how do you get them [the team] going, how do you motivate that bunch, how do you create a combination, how do you see who is the best in that lot to fit in and deliver at a certain stage of the game,” added Shastri.

They have not been in the top four of the IPL for the entire season and will need to finish strongly to claim a playoff berth.

"If you start getting on a purple patch where you are scoring runs, the job as a captain becomes much easier, the body language on the field changes, that energy on the field is different as opposed to when you are not getting runs. You can go flat no matter who you are," Shastri said.

Though the MI captain has led a turnaround for his side following a shallow start to this season, his series of single-digit scores are not helping the cause at the of the order.&nbsp;

While chasing 215 against Punjab Kings in an away clash on Wednesday, Rohit departed on a three-ball duck. In his previous three outings, he got out on 2,3 and 0, respectively.&nbsp;

Though Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav compensated with incredible power hitting that helped MI chase down another 200-plus run-chase this season, the former Aussie all-rounder Tom Moody feels there is not much to look into Rohit’s form as he brings more to the table than just runs.

Speaking after the match, Moody said ahead of the Punjab game, even Ishan Kishan was under the radar for not scoring, and now since he has, he ticked that box, and it’s about time before Rohit will get back to scoring heaps of runs.&nbsp;

"It is a concern, but I suppose from Mumbai Indians' point of view, Ishan Kishan, that was another concern leading into this game (PBKS vs MI). Both openers have been short of runs. That’s ticked off, he looks like he is up and running and flying," Moody told the broadcaster, as quoted by India Today.

Backing the veteran batter to come good in games to come, Moody said with players like Rohit, you have to be patient because they offer much more for the side than just runs. Citing the example of the great MS Dhoni, Tom said while MS is also not among runs this season, having faced relatively few balls – the fact that he is there in the batting order boosts CSK's confidence, and when he comes to bat, he leaves his impact on just those 2-3 balls. The same is the case with Rohit.

"The next one is Rohit Sharma. When you have batting depth of quality, that MI have, you can be patient with someone like Rohit Sharma because of the value that he brings to the table as captain. You look at the value that MS Dhoni has had for CSK. He has only had a couple of impacts with the bat , and that’s purely because he is sitting back in the batting order.

"There is more to Rohit Sharma than the batsman. It’s the leader, it’s the calm and successful mind. He is a multiple championship-winning captain," Moody added.

Meanwhile, against PBKS, MI conceded 215 runs, and during the chase, they were left with a mountain to climb after losing Rohit and Cameron Green inside the Powerplay. However, a 116-run stand for the third wicket between Ishan (75) and Surya (66), ensured MI stay alive in the chase.
