Mumbai Indians (MI) versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been referred to as the El Clasico of IPL since time immemorial. Match 33 of the IPL 2022 edition saw a winless MI take on defending champions and four-time winners CSK, just a position above bottom-ranked Mumbai, in a thrilling encounter before the Yellow Army fought till the very last ball to emerge on top courtesy MS Dhoni's masterclass finish.

Opting to bowl first, Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK had a dream start at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday evening (April 21). Mukesh Choudhary's 3 for 19 rocked MI's top-order as they were soon reduced to 23-3 and 47-4 in no time. Rohit achieved an unwanted record with most ducks in IPL after a two-ball dismissal. The likes of Ishan Kishan, and Dewald Brevis couldn't do much as Suryakumar Yadav fell for a good-looking 32.

While wickets tumbled left, right and centre, CSK's fielding weren't upto the mark as the likes of Dhoni missed a stumping whereas captain Jadeja missed a few sitters. Eventually, Tilak Verma's 51 not out and handy cameos from Kieron Pollard-Jaydev Unadkat propelled MI to 155-7 in 20 overs. Along with Mukesh, Dwayne Bravo also chipped in with two key wickets.

In reply, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad on the first ball of the run-chase. Daniel Sams struck at regular intervals to unsettle Chennai. Robin Uthappa, playing his 200th IPL game, played a chancy knock (25-ball 30) whereas Ambati Rayudu's 35-ball 40 held CSK innings. Dan Sams returned and removed Rayudu, in-form Shivam Dube whereas debutant Hrithik Shokeen held one end with his smart variations.

From 88 for 3, CSK were reduced to 106 for 6. Skipper Jadeja's poor form continued as the onus fell on Dwaine Pretorius and Dhoni. The South African also played his part, with two handy boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah, before passing on the baton to Dhoni, with 16 needed off the last four balls.

Dhoni looked in decent touch before the last over. However, he upped his game effortlessly in the last over against one of his favourite bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat. Dhoni went deep into the crease, anticipated the slower ones and bouncers to smash 6, 4, 2, 4 and take CSK past the finish line on the final delivery. The former Chennai captain remained unbeaten on 28 (13)* as the defending champions attained two crucial points.

Mumbai, on the other hand, is very much out of contention and have now achieved the worst-ever start by a team in an IPL season (with seven losses on the trot).

IPL 2022: MS Dhoni's last-ball 4, Mukesh Choudhary's 3-fer takes CSK to 3-wicket win over MI

MS Dhoni turned back the clock to play the role of finisher once more as the veteran scored 16 runs in the last four balls of the match to guide Chennai Super Kings to victory over Mumbai Indians on Thursday. It was the second victory for the defending champions in this year’s competition.

Dhoni came to bat with CSK struggling to keep up with the required run rate but a 13-ball-28 from the ex-skipper was enough to guide them home on the final delivery of the encounter.

At the end of the match, the CSK players came out to shake hands with the opponents and skipper Ravindra Jadeja bowed down to Dhoni with his hat in his hand as a sign of respect. Ambati Rayudu was right behind Jadeja and he was seen talking to Dhoni with folded hands after the encounter.

Earlier, Mukesh Choudhry took three wickets to remove the MI top order but a half century from Tilak Varma meant that the five-time winners were able to post a total over 150. In response, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu got good starts but CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja bows down to MS Dhoni after thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians - WATCH

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have their task cut out in a bid to stay alive in the playoffs race in IPL 2022 edition. The Ravindra Jadeja-led Yellow Army have not hit the ground running so far in the 15th season of the IPL, with only one win from six games.

The defending champions and four-time winners CSK got off the mark with a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) -- in what was their fifth encounter -- and were on top versus Gujarat Titans (GT), in defence of a competitive 171, before David Miller-Rashid Khan's blitz took Gujarat past the finish line. While Chennai's batting has been expressive, their bowling has continued to let them down in crunch situations. Given they are facing arch-rivals and five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI), who are the only team yet to get off the mark in IPL 2022, CSK will churn out their best XI to get the better of Mumbai on Thursday evening (April 21).

With Ruturaj Gaikwad finally getting some runs under his belt in the game versus Gujarat, Robin Uthappa and he will continue to don the opening slots. Moeen Ali will follow suit at No. 3 with Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni, skipper Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo to form the middle and lower order. Chris Jordan was highly-expensive versus Gujarat, returning with 3.5-0-58-0, and looks set to make way for South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius -- who should never have been dropped in the first place as per many experts.

Mukesh Choudhary and Maheesh Theekshana will continue to hold onto their respective spots and hope to strike with a few wickets in the powerplay overs, the nemesis of CSK this season.

Former England cricket team skipper Michael Vaughan was not happy with Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy during Chennai Super Kings’ loss against Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday.

Vaughan questioned Jadeja’s captaincy for CSK this season and said that under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the team did not struggle to win matches in tough situations.

"As a new captain, you want to win tight games. Honestly, it wasn't a tight game, and they lost it. Jadeja took over the captaincy role just ahead of the new season as Dhoni stepped down after serving as CSK skipper since the inception of IPL in 2008. Dhoni won four IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles with Chennai Super Kings before stepping down this season.

Chennai Super Kings have lost five out of their six encounters this season with the side struggling in the ninth spot. The defending champions lost their previous encounter against Gujarat Titans with the match going to the final over but the CSK bowler were unable to defend the total.

'It wasn't a tight game': Former England skipper criticises Ravindra Jadeja after CSK's fifth IPL loss

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ravindra Jadeja and star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo were left fuming after teammate Shivam Dube misjudged David Miller's catch during his side's clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (April 17). Gujarat Titans defeated CSK by 3 wickets after successfully chasing down the target of 170 runs in a last-over thriller.

Batting first at the MCA Stadium in Pune, CSK rode on opener Ruturaj Gaikwad's 73 off 48 balls and Ambati Rayudu's 31-ball 46 to post a challenging total of 169 runs on the board in 20 overs. Despite getting off to a great start with the ball, CSK pacers faltered towards the end as a sensational cameo from Rashid Khan and David Miller's stunning knock took GT over the line in their run chase.

During Gujarat Titans' run-chase, CSK skipper Jadeja and Bravo were left furious after Dube's poor effort on the field. The incident happened in the 17th over of Gujarat Titans' innings when Miller mistimed a pull shot off the bowling of Bravo. The ball flew towards Dube at the midwicket region, who failed to judge the flight of the ball and didn't go for the catch.

Instead of attempting a dive and going all out for the catch, Dube wasted the half-chance as he stopped midway through run up and stopped the ball from going for a boundary after it had bounced off the ground. His poor effort left CSK skipper Jadeja fuming as he was spotted throwing his cap away in frustration.

Bravo was also left unhappy after the effort and was seen signalling another fielder to move to Dube's spot. The all-rounder was seemingly not happy and his frustration was justified as Miller went on to play a match-winning knock of unbeaten 94 off just 51 balls to help GT secure a thrilling win.

CSK were well in control of the game till the 17th over of GT's run chase with the Rashid-led side requiring 48 runs to win off the last three overs. In the absence of regular skipper Hardik Pandya, stand-in skipper Rashid stood up and delivered with the bat as he smashed three sixes and a four against Chris Jordan in the 18th over to take 25 runs off it and bring the equation down to 23 off 12 balls.

Rashid was dismissed by Bravo in the 19th over after scoring 40 off 21 balls but did enough to allow Miller to take his side over the line comfortably. WATCH: CSK skipper Jadeja, Bravo fume at Shivam Dube after he fails to take David Miller's catch against GT

Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa's scintillating strokeplay was complemented by a stellar performance from the spinners as Chennai Super Kings notched up a 23-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore to open their account in the 15th IPL here on Tuesday.

Invited to bat, Dube (95 not out) and Uthappa (88 off 50 balls) conjured up commanding unbeaten half-centuries, smashing 17 sixes and 9 fours between them en route to a 165-run stand -- the overall highest for the third wicket and the highest of this season -- to take CSK to an imposing 216 for 4.

In reply, RCB was restricted to 193 for nine, with young spinner Maheesh Theekshana (4/33) and skipper Ravindra Jadeja (3/39) running riot with seven wickets between them in CSK's 200th IPL game.

With this win, the defending champions finally snapped their four-match losing streak, while for Bangalore, it was just their second loss in five matches.

Chasing an improbable 217, RCB lost skipper Faf du Plessis (8), who became Theekshana's first victim and star-batter Virat Kohli (1), who was removed by Mukesh Choudhary, inside the first five overs.

In-form Anuj Rawat (12) too fell inside the power-play after being trapped in front of the wicket by Theekshana.
The 21-year-old spinner from Sri Lanka, who was picked for Rs 70 lakh in the mega auction, then cleaned up debutant Suyash Prabhudessai (34) and Shahbaz Ahmed (41), who tried to take the game deep with their quick 60-run stand off 33 balls.

Theekshana castled Prabhudessai, after the ball beat the inside edge and crashed into the middle stump and then used the carrom ball to dismiss Ahmed and cap off a match-winning spell under the lights.

Dinesh Karthik did create a scare with his 14-ball 34, but that was too little and too late as CSK heaved a sigh of relief with their first points on the board.

At the start, Dube and Uthappa feasted on the RCB attack, smashing scintillating half-centuries. Earlier, invited to bat, Uthappa and Dube showed their six hitting prowess as they rallied the innings after CSK was reeling at 36 for 2.

While Uthappa's knock was studded with nine sixes and four boundaries, Dube also hit eight sixes and five fours in his unbeaten 46-ball knock. Both Dube and Uthappa posted their highest IPL scores to set up the match for defending champions CSK, who are reeling from four straight losses and are still looking for their first win this season.

Uthappa took time to settle and fetched his first boundary only in the fifth over, a cut shot off Mohammed Siraj (0/37), before clobbering Akash Deep (0/58) for his first maximum in the next over.

Uthappa and Dube then upped the ante as they hammered a boundary each off Deep and then the lanky left-handed batter launched into Glenn Maxwell (0/29) for his first six over long-on. Dinesh Karthik comes up with cheeky response Dinesh Karthik did create a scare with his 14-ball 34, but that was too little and too late as CSK heaved a sigh of relief with their first points on the board. Have learned a lot from MS Dhoni, he is fantastic: RCB skipper Faf du Plessis lauds Chennai's 'Thala'

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will lock horns in match number 22 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 12). CSK and RCB have both had contrasting starts to their respective campaigns this season.

While RCB have wasted little time in finding the winning momentum under new skipper Faf du Plessis with three victories in their first four matches, CSK are yet to get off the mark in IPL 2022. CSK have suffered four straight defeats in their first four matches this year and are languishing at the bottom of the points table with zero points.

CSK have had a fair share of problems in both the batting and the bowling department. While Deepak Chahar's absence has seen them struggle to find a settled pace attack, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor form at the top has resulted in the batting unit failing to deliver consistently.

Barring Dwayne Bravo, CSK pacers have struggled to take wickets at regular intervals while the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali has also failed to impress. The openers have failed to capitalise in the Powerplay while the middle-order has not quite managed to up the ante at crucial junctures.

RCB have a settled bowling attack with the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Akash Deep and Harshal Patel among the wickets consistently. However, the Faf du Plessis-led side will miss Harshal services against CSK as the Indian pacer had to leave the bio-bubble after the sudden demise of a family member.

In his absence, CSK batters will be hoping to redeem themselves against a depleted RCB bowling attack. CSK bowlers, however, will have to step up to stop the likes of Virat Kohli, Du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik from firing as the trio has been enjoying a sublime run this season.

Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2022: Head-to-head record, trivia, stats and squads

The Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will lock horns with the four-time winners and defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 22 of the IPL 2022 edition on Tuesday evening (April 12), at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

So far, the Bengaluru franchise have been at its very best despite a loss in their opening game. Since then, they have been on a three-match winning streak. Needless to say, they will be desperate to extend their unbeaten run and top the points table with a win over the hapless and struggling CSK unit. Though the Ravindra Jadeja-led Yellow Army are off to an indifferent start -- their worst-ever in an IPL season -- the RCB camp will surely not take them lightly.

Predicting RCB's line-up for CSK face-off

Faf will continue to open the innings with youngster Anuj Rawat, whose stocks are rising slowly and steadily. The duo will be followed by Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik. While Maxwell has played only a solitary game this season, the remaining three have made some sparkling contributions for the Men in Maroon.

Wanindu Hasaranga will come lower down the order whereas there might be some changes in the pace department. Md Siraj will definitely hold onto his place (unless an injury occurs) and might be joined by Siddharth Kaul and Josh Hazlewood. Kaul is likely to replace Harshal Patel -- who lost his sister a few days back and left the bubble -- whereas the Aussie speedster is now available. However, it might be a tough call to drop David Willey, who has also done fairly well in all spheres. Meanwhile, Akash Deep will complete the XI.

IPL 2022: Josh Hazlewood, Siddharth Kaul to get a look-in? Predicting RCB's playing XI for CSK face-off

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be desperately looking to get off the mark in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 12). The defending champions have endured a shambolic start to the season and have lost their first four matches in a row.

MS Dhoni's decision to step down from captaincy and hand over the baton to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not worked well for the four-time champions, who have struggled to get going this season. CSK are in a must-win situation against RCB, who have lost only out of their first four games so far this season.

CSK's biggest concern this season has been the poor form of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and the lack of good starts at the top. While Gaikwad is yet to fire this season, his opening partner Robin Uthappa has also failed to convert his starts into big scores for the Men in Yellow. In the middle order, Ambati Rayudu is yet to find his groove while MS Dhoni has been under the scanner once again for his poor strike rate.

CSK were dealt with a huge blow ahead of the start of the season with an injury to their key pacer Deepak Chahar and his absence has derailed their season. In Chahar's absence, CSK's pace attack has lacked venom and the likes of Mukesh Chaudhary and Tushar Deshpande have failed to impress.

In their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Abhishek Sharma, who slammed a brilliant 75 to help his team chase down the target of 155 runs comfortably. CSK had dropped South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorious for the game and picked Sri Lankan mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana in his place.

However, the Sri Lankan spinner went wicket-less while conceding 31 runs off his four overs. CSK might bring back Pretorious in the XI for Theekshana as the Proteas all-rounder has done well with the ball in the season so far. CSK might also play him in place of Chris Jordan if they want to keep Theekshana in the fray.

Dwaine Pretorious to return? Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK's predicted playing XI for IPL 2022 clash against RCB

Match 22 of IPL 2022 edition will see the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), on Tuesday evening (April 12). While the two sides share a great rivalry, the opposition players enjoy a very healthy relationship with each other.

There are some superstar cricketers involved in the CSK-RCB clash. The likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Josh Hazlewood, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, etc. will square off against each other but they remain best of friends away from the 22-yard cricket strip. In a recent video shared by the official Twitter handle of the Yellow Army, it captured the bond among these players as they reunited before the mega encounter. Here's the clip:

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had nothing going for them in the IPL 2022 edition. While they are having issues in all departments, their bowling seems very weak compared to the other nine teams with no Deepak Chahar.

Chahar had suffered a quadriceps hamstring injury during the T20I series decider between India and West Indies, in February, and was confirmed to miss the starting phase of IPL 2022. While there were hopes pinned on Chahar's return to action by late April, it is being reported that another injury has severely dented the CSK all-rounder's chances of appearing in the 15th season. As per reports, the fast-bowling all-rounder has suffered a back injury during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru and is set to miss the ongoing edition.

As per a PTI report, the defending champions Chennai were hopeful of Chahar's return, however, another injury has further jolted the pacer's chances and there is "no chance of his availability" for the entirety of the tournament.

No end to CSK's miseries? Deepak Chahar ruled out of IPL 2022 with another injury: Report

Match 22 of IPL 2022 will see two highly-followed teams take on each other. The defending champions and winless Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns with a high-flying Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday (April 12).

The clash will be a marquee affair as it reunites old friends and teammates. Faf du Plessis will try to keep his emotions in check as he is will lead RCB against his previous franchise, which gave him thundering success for more than five years. CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja and former captain MS Dhoni will also reunite with Virat Kohli. Thus, the match is sure to turn heads as cricket fans will be spoilt for choices with many big names involved in the CSK-RCB clash.

Talking about CSK, the Yellow Army has no end to their miseries. With no Faf, Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn't found his rhythm and is facing the pressure at the top. The likes of Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, and Ambati Rayudu also need to step up and be more consistent. Dhoni's presence and power-hitting are required for the Chennai setup whereas Jadeja will have to be more proactive and think out of the box to produce favourable results for his franchise.

On the other hand, RCB is moving ahead confidently. They've ticked quite a few boxes with openers and finishers doing the job and bowlers also chipping in at regular intervals. Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga have been most successful with the ball, however, the former's absence -- due to personal reasons -- will test RCB if CSK gets going.

CSK vs RCB, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Chennai Super Kings-Royal Challengers Bangalore match?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a woeful start to their campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they find themselves reeling at the bottom of the points table with zero points after four straight defeats in their first four matches. The defending champions have lost four games in a row at the start of the season for the first time in IPL history.

MS Dhoni had decided to step down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings just a couple of days ahead of the start of IPL 2022 handing over the baton to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has had a disastrous start to his captaincy stint with the four-time champions. Jadeja is yet to bag his first win as captain for CSK as the Men in Yellow are on a losing streak of 4 games.

Reacting to Jadeja's poor start as CSK captain, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said the all-rounder should not have been appointed Dhoni's replacement as captain when the former CSK skipper knew that he was ready to step down. Shastri feels CSK should not have let go of their former star Faf du Plessis, who could have led the side and Jadeja could have played freely as a player.

Du Plessis was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the IPL 2022 mega auction in February this year and has been leading his new side in the ongoing season. Du Plessis was part of the CSK squad last year and played an instrumental role in helping them claim their 4th IPL title.

"I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should have not let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match-winner and played a lot," Shastri said on ESPN Cricinfo.

"If Dhoni didn't want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he (Jadeja) can then play freely, no pressure of captaincy. Things could have been different for Chennai," the former India head coach added.

Shastri had earlier stated that Jadeja was more than capable of handling the responsibility of captaining CSK in IPL 2022. However, the defending champions' poor start to their ongoing campaign has made the former India head coach rethink his earlier claims.

Du Plessis, on the other hand, has enjoyed a brilliant start to his captaincy stint at RCB with three wins in their first four matches so far this season. RCB are on an unbeaten streak of three games after losing their opener against Punjab Kings.

Abhishek Sharma played an enthralling knock of 75 runs as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Saturday. SRH chased down the target of 155 runs with 20 balls to spare as Kane Williamson & Co. handed CSK their fourth straight defeat of the season.

Deemed as one of the favourites ahead of the start of the season, defending champions have recorded their worst start to an IPL campaign. The four-time champions had never lost three games in a row at the start of the season but have lost as many as four games in a row this time around.

Batting first against SRH at the DY Patil Stadium, CSK openers once again failed to get the team off to a good start. However, crucial knocks from Moeen Ali (48), Ambati Rayudu (27) and skipper Ravindra Jadeja (23) helped the team post a fighting total of 153 runs on the board.

It was a clinical run chase from SRH as Sharma and skipper Kane Williamson got the team off to a flyer. The duo added 89 runs for the first wicket before Sharma added another 56 runs for the second wicket with Rahul Tripathi (39). With the help of fiery knocks from Sharma and Tripathi, SRH mauled CSK by 8 wickets to get off the mark in IPL 2022.

Meanwhile, CSK are yet to get their first win of the season despite having played 4 out of their total 4 games. Reacting to the shambolic defeat, CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja, who is still searching for his first win as captain, said his team were 20-25 runs short with the bat but were looking to fight till the end even with 155 runs on the board.

"It's with the ball that we are disappointed but we were 20-25 runs short. We were looking to fight till the end. 155 isn't bad and our bowlers were looking to take wickets," said Jadeja.

"Tomorrow might be a day off but we'll look to improve. We'll talk about where we are lacking. We are professionals and need to work hard, stick together and come back stronger," he added.

While their bowling attack looks unsettled in the absence of Deepak Chahar, who is yet to recover fully and is undergoing his recovery, CSK batters have also struggled massively this season with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad yet to play an impactful knock. IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja makes 150th appearance, joins MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina in elite list

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be desperately looking to get off the mark in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when they lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their fourth game of the season at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (April 09). CSK have had the worst possible start to their title defence campaign under new captain Ravindra Jadeja with three back-to-back defeats in their first three games.

Sunrisers Hyderabad too have had a woeful start to their campaign as they currently sit at the bottom of the points table with no points from their first two games. SRH have lost their first two games in a row and will be searching for their first win of the season against a struggling CSK side tonight.

While CSK's bowling attack has struggled in the absence of Deepak Chahar, the batters too have disappointed so far. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and senior batter Amabati Rayudu are yet to fire this season while captain Ravindra Jadeja has failed to finish games despite taking added responsibility by promoting himself in the batting order.

SRH too have gone batting heavy in both their games this season but the batters have failed to fire as a unit. While skipper Kane Williamson is yet to make an impact, the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi too have failed to get going.

However, at the DY Patil Stadium where the pacers are expected to get help from the pitch, SRH will be optimistic about their chances considering the quality in their pace department. The likes of Umran Malik, T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can trouble the CSK batters and will be hoping to secure the first win for their side tonight.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja is set to achieve a major Indian Premier League (IPL) milestone -- play his 150th game in the lucrative tournament for the franchise -- when his side takes on SunRisers Hyderabad at the DY Patil Stadium here on Saturday.

Only two CSK cricketers -- former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (217 matches) and Suresh Raina (200 matches) -- have accomplished the feat for the four-time IPL champions.

Jadeja's stint with CSK started in 2012 and the all-rounder has grown from a talented player to a senior statesman during his decade-long stay.

Jadeja is the third-highest wicket-taker for CSK, having scalped 110 wickets in 149 matches. With the willow, the left-handed batter has amassed 1,523 runs for the Chennai team.

He has played several glittering knocks from the time he announced his arrival in 2012, scoring a rollicking 48 off 29 balls in just his second match for CSK, against Deccan Chargers. That cameo helped Chennai win by 74 runs.

Fast forward nine years to 2021, and CSK still look to Jadeja to come up with a special performance that will guide the team to victory.

IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja on verge of huge milestone, set to play 150th match for Chennai Super Kings

Robin Uthappa has been a part of the IPL since its inception. The veteran Indian player has represented a plethora of IPL franchises. When IPL was still in its early years, Uthappa played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), now-defunct Pune Warriors (PW) before having his best time at the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Later, Uthappa shifted to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and represented the one-time winners in IPL 2020 before being transferred to his current franchise, i.e. the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) prior to the previous year's season. Thus, the swashbuckling left-hander has had quite a journey in IPL and now feels settled with the Yellow Army.

Reflecting on his transfer from RR to CSK, Uthappa recently revealed -- in a freewheeling chat with R Ashwin on Youtube -- which Chennai star player had a key role in initiating his transfer talks. "Kerala had a Syed Mushtaq game against Andhra in Bombay. Amba [Rayudu] was leading the Andhra side. Rayudu asked, 'what's happening with you'. He was like, 'Bro, I'll do one thing. I will give you Kasi Sir's [CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan] number. You call Kasi sir. We want a player like you in our team. Why don't you give him a call?'"

"From RR I got to know that the conversations had begun and we will see where it goes and then Kasi sir called me after two days. I was leaving Bombay. He said, 'Rob the deal is done. You're gonna be coming to us. MS said that he doesn't have anything to do with the decision. The support staff believes that you'll be a great value to our team'," added the CSK opener.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja broke his silence on opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after the side's loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their third game of the season on Sunday. Punjab Kings thrashed CSK by 61 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to hand the defending champions their third straight loss of the season.

Gaikwad's poor run with the bat continued against Punjab Kings as he once again failed to get his side off to a great start. Asked to chase a big target of 181 runs, CSK got off to the worst possible start as Gaikwad departed on just 1 off 4 balls and was dismissed in the second over of the game.

His opening partner Robin Uthappa too departed cheaply on 13 off 10 balls in the next over as CSK suffered a top-order collapse. Gaikwad has managed to score only 2 runs in the first three matches of CSK this season and his struggles at the top have cost the defending champions dearly.

Speaking about his rough patch, CSK skipper Jadeja said Gaikwad needs to be given confidence and backed by the team as he is a talented batter.

"We lost too many wickets in the powerplay, we didn't find the momentum from ball one. We need to find a way to get better and come back stronger. We need to give him confidence, we need to back him, we all know that he's a very good player. We'll definitely back him and I am sure that he'll come good," Jadeja said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

After a top-order collapse on Sunday, CSK never managed to get back into the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shivam Dube (57) and MS Dhoni (23) made a desperate attempt to get their team back into the hunt but their efforts were not enough as CSK were bundled out for a paltry 126 runs.

CSK have now lost their first three matches in a row this season and are yet to secure their first two points in what has been a disastrous start to their title defence campaign.

CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja breaks his silence on Ruturaj Gaikwad's rough patch in IPL 2022

Liam Livingstone was the star performer for Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they locked horns with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 11 of the IPL 2022 edition in India, on Sunday evening (April 3).

Being asked to bat first, at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, PBKS weren't off to a desirable start as they were reduced to 14-2 before Livingstone's 32-ball 60, studded with five fours and an equal number of sixes, led to Punjab's recovery. Along with vital knocks from Shikhar Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma and some late hits, PBKS posted 180-8 in 20 overs before defending the total by 54 runs.

While Livingstone also made a mark with the ball, returning with 2 for 25, the Englishman's contribution with the bat was the real difference. He hit plenty of maximums but his 108-metre six off Mukesh Choudhary made heads turn (the biggest six of the 15th season so far). Here's the video of his huge strike into the stands:

While CSK were never in the run-chase, being reduced to 36 for 5, Livingstone also succeeded in sending Chennai's in-form batter Shivam Dube back to the pavillion. The left-hander was looking dangerous in his 30-ball 57 before the Englishman sent him back and also accounted for Dwayne Bravo's wicket, taking a blinder of his own bowling.

At the post-match presentation, Livingstone said, "The first two games hadn't gone my way. Good to contribute to a win. Thought the boys did brilliantly. We got to a target which we thought was defendable and our seam bowlers were outstanding in the powerplay. Got to try as smart as we can. All our conversations have been 'try and be as exciting as we can'. Nice to get a few today. I've been swinging hard enough, nice to get a couple off the middle today. You don't need to remind me about it (his IPL record previously). Struggled with RR as well last year. Nice to have a performance like this. Bowling is something I really enjoy. Something I've spent a lot of time on. Been nice to contribute. Hopefully, as the tournament goes on, my spin comes into play. I also bat in the nets with Odean Smith, he's got me covered by a long way, trust me. I'm sure he'll get going at some point and you'll see why."

IPL 2022: PBKS star Liam Livingstone goes big, hits a mammoth 108m-six during CSK face-off - Watch

Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 11 of the IPL 2022 edition on Sunday evening (April 3) at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. After their worst-ever start to an IPL season, losing their opening two games, CSK had a tough task to get off the mark in the points table in the 15th season.

In both their opening two games, CSK had also lost the toss and paid the price for playing against the conditions. However, luck was on Jadeja's side this time around as he won the coin toss versus Mayank Agarwal. Jadeja's reaction to winning his first-ever toss as CSK skipper also went viral as the 33-year-old couldn't contain his smile. Here's the video:

Despite CSK winning the toss and reducing Punjab to 14-2, they couldn't contain the run-flow as Liam Livingstone's 32-ball 60 and valuable knocks from Shikhar Dhawan and wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma propelled Punjab to 180-8 in 20 overs. IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja's reaction goes viral as CSK skipper finally wins the toss vs PBKS - WATCH

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have gotten off the worst possible start in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they find themselves reeling at the eighth spot on the points table after back-to-back defeats in their first two matches of the season. CSK lost their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders before slipping to a defeat against Lucknow Super Giants in their last outing.

They are searching for their maiden win of the season and will be looking to bounce back desperately when they lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their third game of the season on Sunday (April 03). While CSK are winless so far in the tournament, Punjab Kings had defeated RCB by five wickets in their opener before going down against KKR in their next game.

CSK have lost both their opening matches of the tournament for the first time in IPL history as the absence of premier pacer Deepak Chahar continues to hurt the team's chances. Chahar is on track with his recovery but is likely to miss at least a couple of more weeks of action before being available for selection.

In his absence, CSK had played domestic talents Mukhes Chaudhary and Tushar Deshpande in their last game against Lucknow Super Giants but failed to defend a massive total of 210 runs to lose their second game in a row. CSK will hope for an improved show from their bowlers against Punjab's star-studded batting line-up.

Punjab Kings once again have chinks in their armour as far as their middle-order is concerned. In their last game against KKR, the likes of Liam Livingstone, Raj Bawab and Shahrukh Khan all failed to get ging which saw them post a paltry 137 runs on the board and lose the game by six wickets.

If CSK can get rid of Punjab's top-order early in the game, they will fancy their chances against Mayank Agarwal's men. Both teams have suffered defeats in their last matches and will be looking to get back to winning ways at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2022 prediction:

Chennai Super Kings might not have momentum on their side after having lost their first two matches in a row but the Ravindra Jadeja-led side has enough experience and firepower in their line-up to bag their first win against Punjab Kings on Sunday. CSK is expected to come out on top against Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium.

CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings match?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a woeful start to their campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with back-to-back losses in their first two matches. CSK lost their opener against Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets before facing a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants in their next encounter.

The defending champions have failed to impress so far in the league after MS Dhoni passed over the captaincy baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The absence of pacer Deepak Chahar and the unavailability of Adam Milne and Chris Jordan in their last game against Lucknow have hurt CSK so far this season.

While the bowlers have struggled, CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has also failed to fire in the tournament so far. The Orange Cap winner from last season has scores of 0 and 1 in CSK's first two matches of the season. However, former skipper MS Dhoni has showcased good form despite having not played any competitive cricket in the build-up to the tournament.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes CSK skipper Jadeja will be under the pressure after two straight losses in the first two games. Shastri believes the openers will have to fire for CSK in order to get their season on track or it will be difficult for them to defend their title.

"It's a cause for concern when both openers are not performing. It's very important for one of the openers to strike form as soon as possible because they have lost two matches. There's a new captain at the helm, and he's under pressure. Yes, Dhoni is in form but if one of those openers doesn't score then CSK will find it difficult in this tournament," Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo.

Gaikwad had opened the batting with Devon Conway in the opening game against KKR where he fell for a duck while the Kiwi batter was dismissed after scoring 3 off 8 balls. In their second game against Lucknow, Gaikwad perished cheaply once again on just 1 while Conway was dropped from the playing XI with Robin Uthappa taking his spot.

Gaikwad is expected to continue opening the batting with Utahppa in CSK's next game against Punjab Kings on Sunday. Shastri said the young opener needs to take his time out in the middle and get used to the pace of the wicket before trying to go after the bowlers.

"Ruturaj needs to give himself some time. He's a good timer of the ball, he can make up for the slow starts later because he has a lot of shots. If he's a bit careful at the start and gets a bit used to the pace of the wicket, the runs will automatically come... These pitches are good for batting. In comparison to last year, there's more bounce on this wicket and the ball is coming onto the bat nicely," said Shastri.

At the post-match presentation, a jubilant Rahul said, "He has a big heart and he is a fighter for a young boy. It shows the character to bounce back with the wet ball. He is someone who wants to grow and learn. He spends time with the spin coach. Credit for that should go to Vijay Dahiya and GG. They were the ones who wanted him. His batting has been phenomenal. Can bowl as well. Great find for Indian cricket. You can give yourself a couple of overs. If you get a couple of boundaries then it settles the nerves. We got the start we wanted for a big chase. I told him before the first game that he will be batting at three. Doesn't matter. Spinners or fast bowlers he knows one way. His timing has gotten a lot better. Great to see players coming in and winning games. Puts a smile on the captain's face."

Meanwhile, Jadeja opined, "We had a very good start, Robbie and Shivam Dube were playing brilliantly. We had a good start, but in the fielding, we have to take catches then you'll win matches. We should have taken those chances. There was a lot of dew, the ball wasn't sticking to the hand. Next time, we have to practise with the wet ball. We batted brilliantly in the top-six and in the middle-overs. The wicket was very good to bat on. As a bowling unit, we need to execute our plans."

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 7 of the IPL 2022 edition, on Thursday evening (March 31), at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. As expected, it was a high-scoring affair which went down to the wire before the Lucknow franchise emerged on top by six wickets in pursuit of a mammoth 211-run target. Being asked to bat first, Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK posted 210-7 riding on vital knocks from Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Jadeja and MS Dhoni. In reply, Rahul's 26-ball 40, Quinton de Kock's 61, Evin Lewis' 55* and Ayush Badone's 9-ball 19 not out propelled the LSG outfit to a memorable six-wicket win as they opened their account in the ongoing 15th season. Meanwhile, CSK are now off to their worst-ever start in an IPL season, losing their opening two games for the first time. IPL 2022: MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir's interaction goes viral after LSG beat CSK in a run-fest - WATCH

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went down to the debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets as the Ravindra Jadeja-led Yellow Army failed to defend a mammoth 211-run target in match 7 of IPL 2022 edition, held at the Brabourne Stadium Mumbai on Thursday (March 31).

Riding on rapid knocks from Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Jadeja, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni's cameo, CSK posted an impressive 210-7 in 20 overs after KL Rahul & Co. decided to bowl first. Nonetheless, Quinton de Kock's 61, Evin Lewis' 55* and Ayush Badoni's 9-ball 19* resulted in LSG's six-wicket win in the final over of the high-scoring affair. While dew and shabby fielding effort led to CSK's second defeat in a row, former cricketers and experts Ajay Jadeja and Parthiv Patel slammed Dhoni for taking full control and calling the shots amid skipper Jadeja's presence in the end overs.

In Cricbuzz Live, Jadeja pointed out, "It is wrong, there is no doubt about that. See, there is no bigger fan of Dhoni than I am, and that's because of his temperament. If this was the last match of the group where there was a do-or-die situation in terms of qualification, then I could've probably understood that you would want to take over the reins because it is an important phase. But if it happens only in the second match of the season.."

"See, I'm not saying this because it's Ravindra Jadeja. But even as a cricket fan, it looked a little odd. He (Jadeja) was standing right there and you continued to run the whole game. See, Dhoni is a very big player and I don't like saying it out loud. But I didn't like what I saw today."

“There hasn't been a captain like Dhoni nor there will be. But it was his decision to step down as CSK captain and today, instead of pushing him (Jadeja) forward, you have actually dragged him back. His confidence is dented. He wasn't in the game at all," Jadeja further explained.

“I'm not criticising the decisions. I'm being critical of the way he (Dhoni) took over. We noticed Dhoni speaking during the team meeting. There's no doubt Dhoni understands the game better and even CSK fans would be urging him to take over the captaincy again. But I have no doubt that he was wrong in taking over today. If Jadeja was even beginning to feel confident about his captaincy, he won't now," the former cricketer added.

Meanwhile, Patel stated, "If you have to develop someone you have to leave them. He will only become a captain if he is allowed to lead. He will learn only when he makes mistakes."

At this point, CSK's captaincy situation doesn't look good as Jadeja is not having full control on the field due to Dhoni's presence, leading to the team going haywire in crunch situations.

For the unversed, Dhoni had resigned as CSK captain just a few days before IPL 2022 commenced, on March 26. However, it seems CSK franchise have to rework their captaincy situation in order to bounce back in style in their title-defence campaign.

It is wrong, no doubt about that: Former cricketers slam MS Dhoni over CSK captaincy situation after LSG loss

Match 7 of the ongoing IPL 2022 edition will see the defending champions and four-time winners Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with one of the new entrants, i.e. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday evening (March 31).

Both sides are coming into this match after failing to get off the mark in their respective season-openers. Talking about the Chennai camp, the Yellow Army never came to their very best in the opening game of the season, where they went down to the two-time winners and last year's runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on March 26.

Being asked to bat first, CSK were rusty from the word go. The likes of Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad fell flat whereas Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu departed after settling in. MS Dhoni's 38-ball 50* and Jadeja's 28-ball 26 propelled CSK to 131-5. In reply, their bowlers did a decent job of stretching the game till the penultimate over, however, they lost by six wickets.

Predicting CSK's XI for LSG face-off

By know, everyone knows that Chennai isn't a team that presses the panic button after one bad game. They are expected to follow the same template of backing their players by giving them a long rope before making wholesome changes. They will be desperate to get their first win of the season, however, they are likely to go ahead with only one change.

Moeen Ali, last year's star for CSK, is expected to walk into the playing XI at the expense of Kiwi spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner. It will further bolster their batting line-up and might tempt their big guns to play more freely than they did versus KKR. While Shivam Dube also has strong competition from U-19 star Rajvardhan Hangargekar, however, the former is likely to be persisted for now.

Both sides are coming to this encounter with a defeat in their respective season-openers. Talking about the defending champions CSK, the Ravindra Jadeja-led Men in Yellow were a pale shadow of themselves as they were brushed aside by KKR's clinical display in the opening game at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Being asked to bat first, CSK managed a paltry 131 for 5 riding on former skipper Dhoni's 50* (38) and Ravi Jadeja's uninspiring 28-ball 26. In reply, KKR closed the run-chase in the penultimate over as the Chennai bowlers did fairly well in not leaking runs at will. Nonetheless, they also didn't apply much pressure with wicket-taking deliveries at regular intervals.

On the other hand, the KL Rahul-led Lucknow franchise faced Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans (GT), at the same venue on Monday (March 28). In a hard-fought match, Lucknow fought well courtesy a late surge from their lower-order and some tight bowling, however, they came second as they lost by five wickets in defence of 159. Thus, both Chennai and Lucknow will be desperate to avoid two successive losses at the beginning of the new season.

Match prediction for CSK vs LSG clash: So far, only one game has been held at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai this season. It was a 170-plus scoring affair, which went down to the wire. Expect a similar flat track where spinners will have a role to play along with some dew. Both sides will aim for early breakthroughs but CSK's depth and experience are likely to get them their first win of the season.

CSK vs LSG, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants match?

MS Dhoni rarely fails to surprise. His has been a story laced with glory but the Dhoni era is nearing its end as we witness the last of the man who has been one of the greatest to have played the game and has won almost everything there is to be in world cricket.

The man who is known for pulling off surprises with his bold yet calculated moves, managed to stump his fans yet again last week when he stepped down as the captain of his beloved Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just two days ahead of the start of the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL).

Those who know Dhoni would be okay with his decision as he has always been able to take the toughest of calls with the utmost composure, irrespective of their dramatic impact. In 2014, he had retired from Tests after a game against Australia in Melbourne without creating any fuss. He was just 10 short of completing 100 Test matches for India but decided to walk away while handing over the baton to Virat Kohli.

In 2017, Dhoni relinquished India's white-ball captaincy as well for Kohli giving his successor enough time to build his own side for the next World Cup in two years' time. It was another decision that left many scratching their heads but Dhoni knew the timing was right for him to pass over the baton.

Dhoni's self-imposed exits have been crafted in his own style - dipped in secrecy and full of surprise. His pattern of announcing his exits continued in the year 2020 when he confirmed his retirement from international cricket with an emotional video on Instagram that gave a glimpse of his entire journey - the highs and lows with the Indian team.

His arrival for Team India in 2004 was the start of a new dawn in Indian cricket as Dhoni led the team to unprecedented success across all formats. He clinched the maiden T20 World Cup title, won India's first Test mace, followed it up with a glorious World Cup triumph in 2011 and shut his critics by leading a young side to a Champions Trophy title in 2013.

His story with the Indian team had come to an end but he was still there for Chennai Super Kings. Many believed with the burden of playing international cricket off his shoulder, Dhoni would set the IPL alight in 2020 but it was not the case as he struggled and so did his team. CSK finished outside the playoffs for the first time in their history and Dhoni's waning prowess was there for everyone to see.

Comeback of dreams

If scripting a fairytale comeback in 2018 by lifting their third IPL title post a two-year ban was not enough, Dhoni masterminded another one in 2021. CSK were down and out. Dhoni's men had been written off as the old legs in the squad were finding it difficult to keep up with the pace of the league.

But 2021 arrived and Dhoni the batter took a backseat for Dhoni the captain. The 39-year-old took his fans a trip down memory lane as he once again proved why he is one of the greatest leaders in the game. His shrewd brain combined with his unparalleled reading of the game and the ability to stay calm under pressure did wonders as CSK lifted their fourth title to complete a fairytale redemption.

A redemption that was for the ages and post which Dhoni was heard saying - "job done" after he handed over the trophy to his teammates for celebrations followed by fireworks lighting up the Dubai sky on the night of the IPL final. Not many had thought but they had seen the last of Dhoni as CSK's captain.

The final surprise

Just two days ahead of the start of IPL 2022, Dhoni sprung what can be his final surprise as a cricketer. It was announced that Dhoni will not be leading CSK anymore and has chosen Ravindra Jadeja to take his legacy forward at the franchise, which he nurtured over the years.

The story of Dhoni and CSK has been the story of the IPL. A team that had no icon player to kickstart their journey in the unheralded territory of IPL in 2008 found their hero in Dhoni. The love continued to blossom as Dhoni led the team to playoffs after playoffs. CSK played nine finals in just twelve seasons under the 'Thala' and won the IPL four times.

They also won the Champions League twice to be crowned as the best T20 team in the world. A prodigious youngster from Ranchi, who was handpicked to lead a Chennai team in the IPL went on to become a cult hero of the city. The respect and admiration Dhoni commands from Chennai fans is so much so that CSK is synonymous with his name.

But as all good things come to an end, Dhoni's journey as the captain of his beloved franchise has come to an end. But he will still be the undisputed leader no matter who leads the team out and wears the captain's armband for the Men in Yellow.

Dhoni remains indispensable for CSK but he has decided to pass the captaincy baton looking at the future and doing what he has always done as a cricketer - putting the team above himself. Dhoni knows he will still be there in Jadeja's initial years of captaincy and there is no better man to guide his successor from behind the stumps than himself.

While he will be there for Jadeja to help him in crunch situations and set up the field during crucial overs, Dhoni is unlikely to be in the all-rounder's ears all the time and will let him run the game. He will still be the go-to man for Jadeja but CSK will not anymore be Dhoni's team.
