The man, identified as Tabrez Alam of Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Bareilly, is a resident of Shikarpur Chaudhary Gautia, according to Izzatnagar Station House Officer (SHO) Vijendra Singh.

The incident came to light after an X group, Akhand Bharat Sankalp Nath Nagari 25, highlighted Alams&rsquo;s post on Facebook. The group alleged that the post harmed India&rsquo;s unity and integrity, demanding strict actions against the poster.
The SHO said that an FIR was registered under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for deemed contradictory to national integrity.&nbsp;

Singh said that Alam had earlier been accused of abducting a Hindu girl. According to a complaint filed by her father, she left home with jewellery and cash after allegedly being lured by Alam.&nbsp;
Reportedly, he took her to Ghaziabad and threatened to kill her if she didn&rsquo;t comply when he attempted to convert her. Police are still on a hunt to find the girl.

A meteorite dazzled the early morning sky in Karachi, Pakistan, on Monday (March 17) as a "green" streak of light caught residents by surprise. People shared videos of the meteor shooting across as bright flashes creating a vibrant and rare spectacle. Social media was filled with videos of the celestial event that occurred right after the Fajr prayers. Some reports suggested that it created a loud impact.
People caught the meteor on camera from several places in Karachi, with some watching the showers from their homes while others captured them on their dashcams on the roads.
Weather analyst Jawad Memon told DAWN newspaper, "On the night of March 17 at 2:43 am, a similar meteor was seen over the sky of Karachi and like thousands of others that have been spotted across the globe, it burned off over the skies of Karachi creating a streak of blue tone light during the burning process."

Notably, the Gamma Normids, a meteor shower, occurs around this time of the year between March 7 and March 23. It is named after the Gamma Normae, a star in the southern hemisphere's Norma constellation. The shower usually peaks on March 14 and 15.
A social media user wrote, "A big comet-type star has been seen over the sky it was huge, and green prevailed over the sky, and the comet was passed like a fireball."

Meteorites are space debris that regularly enter Earth's atmosphere. However, not all of them are visible and some of them die out as soon as they make their way it. Others burn into bright fireballs after entering Earth's atmosphere and fizzle out soon after. Some of them fall down as well, with meteor hunters locating them nearby.
<h2>Asteroids and meteorites in 2024</h2>
Several small asteroids and meteorites entered Earth in the year 2024. The most notable one was over California in October which was detected only moments before it crashed into the planet. It was reported over the Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 km off the California coast. The buses were first hit by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), followed by RPGs being launched. After this, a vehicle-borne IED or suicide bomber rammed into the convoy. The second and third buses came under attack with a VBIED and a direct rocket attack.&nbsp;
A counteroperation has been launched by the Pakistani military in which two BLA militants have been killed so far. The search and rescue operation is underway.

The convoy included seven civil hired buses and four security personnel cars and was travelling from Quetta to Taftan on the Pakistan-Iran border. They were transporting a detachment of Taftan Rifles to their Forward Coy Location from Quetta, which was led by a Lt Col in unmarked vehicles.
The buses were carrying 40-45 pax per vehicle, which were completely gutted and destroyed as seen in the footage released by BLA and the Pakistan military.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated after Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi termed Pakistan the epicentre of terrorism and said that 80 per cent of terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistanis.
In his annual Army Day press conference on January 13, General Dwivedi blamed Pakistan for the violence in the Union Territory, saying it was being orchestrated by the epicentre of terrorism, that is, Pakistan.
"If the support is not forthcoming the way India is looking at it, this kind of terrorist infiltration will continue to be there," he said. The Army Chief said that the parliamentary elections and assembly elections in the Union Territory both had nearly 60 per cent voting.

The incident occurred due to a buildup of gas, which caused an explosion and led to the mine caving in, according to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind.
He added that full-scale rescue operations were ongoing, but progress was slow due to the presence of toxic gas and debris. An investigation is underway to determine whether proper mining regulations were followed.
Pir Muhammad Kakar, a leader of the mines workers association, blamed the incident on the non-implementation of mining regulations by the owner of the coal mines and accused officials at the mines department of negligence. Kakar demanded strict action against these officials.
Coal mine collapses and worker deaths are frequent in the coal-rich western Balochistan, which is known for hazardous working conditions and poor safety standards.
In March last year, at least 12 miners were killed in a gas explosion at a coal pit in Harnai.&nbsp;

Death toll in Pakistan mine collapse climbs to 11

The Baloch insurgency that began in 1948 has time and again seen its rise and a literal fall. There have been a series of talks, surrenders, killings, and operations in and on Balochistan.
But 75 years on, what is causing the insurgency to survive and, albeit, turn far more deadlier?
The four rounds of insurgency in the past have been led by Baloch Sardar or Tribe heads, as the tribes were heading the insurgency and armed resistance.
Following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti in August 2006, that saw a renewed life in the armed resistance and the insurgency at its peak. It spread from Dera Bugti, Kohlu all the way to the coastal towns and belt of the Makran coastal highway.
After the PPP government came into power following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in 2007, Pakistan opted for the policy of kill and dump in Balochistan, which further fuelled the insurgency till 2011.
In 2012, the insurgency came to an almost dead end after a series of deadly operations and surrenders to the Pakistani state by different factions of the armed militants.
The Baloch insurgents lost face in the local audience after having targeted local politicians from the area, which made people turn against them, leading to an almost elimination of the insurgency from 2013 to 2018.

Sporadic, low-intensity attacks, however, did continue&mdash;from 2013 till 2018 there was a considerable lull in the armed Baloch resistance, but what the Pakistani security forces ignored and called &ldquo;breaking the back of the armed resistance&rdquo;, turned out to be their worst nightmare.
The modus operandi of the insurgency changed, there was a new head of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and a relatively new organization the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF).
The BLA and BLF continue to be listed as terrorist organisations, and as far as the BLA is concerned, it is not just Pakistan that calls it a terrorist organisation, but even the United States listed BLA as a Global Foreign Terrorist Organization in July 2019. Both organisations are spearheaded by middle-class, educated men. While BLA has had historical roots, BLF was founded in 2008. Bashir Zaib who was a student activist, now heads the BLA, Dr Allah Nazar, who is a doctor, heads the armed resistance group BLF. Their aim? Recruit the educated, students, and political class.
The Baloch resistance was arming itself during the lull period, in not just physical arms but with the ideology it had. The defensive and guerilla warfare changed into an offensive mode of insurgency. It was in 2018 when the suicide bombing unit of the BLA, Majeed Brigade struck big to make its presence felt.
Among the first of the attacks was the suicide attack on Chinese engineers in August 2018 in Dalbandin, which was carried out by Rehan Baluch, the son of Aslam Achu, who was the head of the Majeed Brigade. Achu was later killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan&rsquo;s Kandahar in December 2018, and he was replaced by Bashir Zaib.
This bombing signalled a fresh wave of violence, one that would not be conventional and be a headache to be dealt with, to quote an official, &ldquo;How do you stop a person who comes with the intention to die?&rdquo;

The killing of Hayat Baloch, a student of Karachi University, at the hands of the FC, a paramilitary force, in August 2020 in his hometown of Turbat, gave a renewed life to the middleclass-led armed Baloch resistance.
Pakistan, on its part, blames interference from foreign elements and their funding to the group while turning a blind eye to a major problem that is homegrown.
The systematic repression of the Baloch youth is prompting the insurgency and armed resistance to survive.
Let's quote you some examples.
Sha&rsquo;ari Baloch a female suicide bomber of the 2022 Chinese Confucious Institute Bombing in Karachi, wasn&rsquo;t an ordinary person&mdash;she was an MPhil in Physics from the Karachi University. Sha&rsquo;ari being the first female suicide bomber gave a new life to the Majeed Brigade, where the Baloch youth looked up to her and sought inspiration from her.
Another such case is of Shahdad Mumtaz Baloch, a Baloch youth who had gone &ldquo;missing&rdquo; from his hometown in 2015. His family remained silent, and months later their son came back to them. But what happened to him in the end might hold lessons for others. On 1 May, 2020, Shahdad Mumtaz was killed in a shootout with the Pakistani military. To the surprise of many who knew him, an armed separatist group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed him as one of its members. Educated and socially active, Shahdad Mumtaz taught at a prestigious grammar school in his hometown of Turbat in the far south of the province and worked as a regional coordinator for the HRCP, mostly reporting on missing persons&mdash;a major issue in the region. In 2015, he joined the ranks of the missing but was among those lucky ones who, in the words of a local analyst, &ldquo;manage to convince their captors that they have been reformed and that their nationalist activism was a mistake&rdquo;. After his release in 2016, Shahdad Mumtaz joined Islamabad&rsquo;s Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) for a Masters programme.
But this doesn&rsquo;t stop at Sha&rsquo;ari Baloch or Shahdad Baloch, there have been others as well.

Lets look at the case of Aftab Baloch Jattak, who was the Chairman of the Baloch Students Council demanding rights for the students of Balochistan from the Pakistani state only to later pick up arms and join the BLA in 2019. Aftab did his masters at Islamabad&rsquo;s Quaid e Azam University and, after passing out, was part of the BLA squad that attacked the Pakistan military camp in Bolan in May 2021, where he was killed in exchange of gunfire.
Mahal Baloch is another example of the educated youth of Balochistan going against the Pakistani state for her belief in the ideology. Mahal was the suicide bomber who struck at the FC camp in Balochistan&rsquo;s Bela in August 2024. She was an LLB student from the University of Turbat who was born and raised in Surbandar, 25 kilometres from Gwadar.
And off late, the latest symbol of resistance and being worshiped as an ideal is the case of Shah Fahad Baloch, the suicide bomber from BLA&rsquo;s elite Majeed Brigade who targeted Chinese nationals near Karachi airport in October 2024. Shah Fahad Baloch, hailing from Naushki in Balochistan, was also a student of law from the Lasbela University.
Pakistan has carried out proxy operations in Afghanistan and strikes on insurgent training camps in Iran, and it blames India for funding the Baloch insurgency. But the problem remains inward; it is the sense of deprivation and alienation among the Baloch youth. For decades, the elections in Balochistan has been flawed and marred by controversies, often electing those who are not the true representatives and are largely, if not completely, unknown to the people, which leads to protest by ethnic Baloch nationalists. All this has resulted in a lack of trust on the system among the youth. And when the youth lose trust, they go for other means&mdash;in this case, pick up arms against the Pakistani state.

The Baloch insurgency that began in 1948 has time and again seen its rise and a literal fall. There have been a series of talks, surrenders, killings, and operations in and on Balochistan. But 75 years on, what is causing the insurgency to survive and, albeit, turn far more deadlier? The four rounds of insurgency in the past have been led by Baloch Sardar or Tribe heads, as the tribes were heading the insurgency and armed resistance. Following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti in August 2006, that saw a renewed life in the armed resistance and the insurgency at its peak. It spread from Dera Bugti, Kohlu all the way to the coastal towns and belt of the Makran coastal highway. After the PPP government came into power following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in 2007, Pakistan opted for the policy of kill and dump in Balochistan, which further fuelled the insurgency till 2011. In 2012, the insurgency came to an almost dead end after a series of deadly operations and surrenders to the Pakistani state by different factions of the armed militants. The Baloch insurgents lost face in the local audience after having targeted local politicians from the area, which made people turn against them, leading to an almost elimination of the insurgency from 2013 to 2018. The modus operandi of the insurgency changed, there was a new head of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and a relatively new organization the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF). The BLA and BLF continue to be listed as terrorist organisations, and as far as the BLA is concerned, it is not just Pakistan that calls it a terrorist organisation, but even the United States listed BLA as a Global Foreign Terrorist Organization in July 2019. Both organisations are spearheaded by middle-class, educated men. While BLA has had historical roots, BLF was founded in 2008. Bashir Zaib who was a student activist, now heads the BLA, Dr Allah Nazar, who is a doctor, heads the armed resistance group BLF. Their aim? Recruit the educated, students, and political class. The Baloch resistance was arming itself during the lull period, in not just physical arms but with the ideology it had. The defensive and guerilla warfare changed into an offensive mode of insurgency. It was in 2018 when the suicide bombing unit of the BLA, Majeed Brigade struck big to make its presence felt. Among the first of the attacks was the suicide attack on Chinese engineers in August 2018 in Dalbandin, which was carried out by Rehan Baluch, the son of Aslam Achu, who was the head of the Majeed Brigade. Achu was later killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan’s Kandahar in December 2018, and he was replaced by Bashir Zaib. Pakistan, on its part, blames interference from foreign elements and their funding to the group while turning a blind eye to a major problem that is homegrown. Another such case is of Shahdad Mumtaz Baloch, a Baloch youth who had gone “missing” from his hometown in 2015. His family remained silent, and months later their son came back to them. But what happened to him in the end might hold lessons for others. On 1 May, 2020, Shahdad Mumtaz was killed in a shootout with the Pakistani military. To the surprise of many who knew him, an armed separatist group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed him as one of its members. Educated and socially active, Shahdad Mumtaz taught at a prestigious grammar school in his hometown of Turbat in the far south of the province and worked as a regional coordinator for the HRCP, mostly reporting on missing persons—a major issue in the region. In 2015, he joined the ranks of the missing but was among those lucky ones who, in the words of a local analyst, “manage to convince their captors that they have been reformed and that their nationalist activism was a mistake”. After his release in 2016, Shahdad Mumtaz joined Islamabad’s Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) for a Masters programme. But this doesn’t stop at Sha’ari Baloch or Shahdad Baloch, there have been others as well. Aftab did his masters at Islamabad’s Quaid e Azam University and, after passing out, was part of the BLA squad that attacked the Pakistan military camp in Bolan in May 2021, where he was killed in exchange of gunfire. Mahal Baloch is another example of the educated youth of Balochistan going against the Pakistani state for her belief in the ideology. Mahal was the suicide bomber who struck at the FC camp in Balochistan’s Bela in August 2024. She was an LLB student from the University of Turbat who was born and raised in Surbandar, 25 kilometres from Gwadar. And off late, the latest symbol of resistance and being worshiped as an ideal is the case of Shah Fahad Baloch, the suicide bomber from BLA’s elite Majeed Brigade who targeted Chinese nationals near Karachi airport in October 2024. Shah Fahad Baloch, hailing from Naushki in Balochistan, was also a student of law from the Lasbela University. Pakistan has carried out proxy operations in Afghanistan and strikes on insurgent training camps in Iran, and it blames India for funding the Baloch insurgency. But the problem remains inward; it is the sense of deprivation and alienation among the Baloch youth. With Pakistan set to host the first major ICC tournament since co-hosting the 1996 World Cup, the ICC extended the deadline (for the renovation work at all venues) from December 31 to January 25. UAE president interested in collaborating with Pakistan in mining, minerals sector

A special court in the Indian city of Mumbai on Wednesday (Jan 1) sentenced eight Pakistani nationals to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of the seizure of over 200 kilogrammes of drugs valued at nearly $816,249 (Rs 7 crore).
According to a report by the news agency PTI, the case dates back to 2015, when the Indian Coast Guard apprehended the accused persons from a boat carrying the aforementioned massive quantity of drugs off the Gujarat coast.&nbsp;
<h2>Drug seized was heroin</h2>
There were 11 drums on the boat with 20 plastic pouches containing a wheatish brown colour powder. Upon testing, it was found the power was heroin.

The accused eight Pakistani nationals were also found in possession of three satellite phones and GPS navigation charts, among other electronic devices.
<h2>Jail term handed under NDPS Act</h2>
The PTI report said that the Special Judge for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases, Shashikant Bangar, convicted the eight Pakistani nationals for offences committed under the anti-drug law.
Under the NDPS Act, the convicts were handed over a 20-year jail term. The court also imposed a fine of $2,332 on each of them.

DRPA will deal with issues like prosecution of people who are sharing or accessing prohibited content, removal of online content, taking appropriate action against social media platforms where such fake content is being circulated, reported Dawn newspaper.

Prime minister’s adviser Barrister Aqeel Malik confirmed the amendments and said the new provisions aim to “eliminate misinformation and negative propaganda”.

The most notable change included in the draft amendment is the definition of "social media platform". The officials have expanded the definition and it now includes software and tools which are used for accessing social media.&nbsp;

Pakistan: November deadliest for security forces with 68 casualties

Imran Khan, the former Pakistan prime minister, has been found guilty in connection with the violence that happened on May 9 of last year. A Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) found Khan guilty and revoked his bail in eight related cases on Saturday (Nov 30).

Pakistan: Court finds ex-PM Imran Khan guilty for May 9 violence; revokes bail in 8 cases

A midnight crackdown was launched by the security forces in Pakistan on Tuesday&nbsp;(November 26) against&nbsp;thousands of supporters of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan who had reached the heart of the heavily fortified Islamabad seeking the release of their leader.

Looking at the situation Article 245 of the Constitution was invoked by the government and a&nbsp;crackdown was launched against the protesters.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Article 245 allows a civilian government to call in the army to help them implement law and order.

The security forces launched the crackdown to disperse the protesters and arrest several of them who had entered the high-security Red Zone after breaching the barricades amid intense firing of rubber bullets and tear gas.

In the overnight clashes, at least four security personnel and two civilians were killed, as per reports. The clashes broke out two days after six people died in the violent clashes between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and security forces.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the miscreants killed three Rangers (paramilitary force)&nbsp;and one police constable.

Bringing the day of battles to an end, PTI leadership asked the protesters to retreat late-night as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur told them “to go home, have dinner and return tomorrow”.

Eight soldiers killed, seven policemen kidnapped in Pakistan: Police

A suicide attack in northwest&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;killed 12 soldiers Tuesday, an intelligence source told AFP after a separate clash less than a day earlier left eight dead in the same region bordering Afghanistan.

"A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near the checkpoint, after which his accomplices opened fire," an intelligence official said of the attack in Bannu on Tuesday.

"As of the latest updates, 10 people have been killed and seven injured in the attack," he said.

The official said that the explosion "caused significant damage" to the Mali Khel checkpoint's structure as well as to military vehicles.

Lahore -- a city of 14 million people stuffed with factories on the border with India -- regularly ranks among the world's most polluted cities, but it has hit record levels this month.&nbsp;

Schools have closed in the main cities of Punjab province, of which Lahore is the capital, until November 17 in a bid to lower children's exposure to the pollution, especially during the morning commute when it is often at its highest.

"The children are constantly coughing, they have constant allergies. In schools we saw that most of the children were falling sick," said Rafia Iqbal, a 38-year-old primary school teacher in the city that borders India.

Her husband Muhammad Safdar, a 41-year-old advertising professional, said the level of pollution "is making daily living impossible".

"We cannot move around, we cannot go outside, we can do nothing at all," he told AFP.

According to the international Air Quality Index Scale, an index value of 300 or higher results is "hazardous" to health and Pakistan has regularly tipped over 1,000 on the scale.&nbsp;

In Multan, another city of several million people some 350 kilometres away, the AQI level passed 2,000 last week -- a staggering height never seen before by incredulous residents.&nbsp;

Access to parks, zoos, playgrounds, historic monuments, museums and recreational areas will be banned until November 17 and tuk-tuks with polluting two-stroke engines, along with restaurants that operate barbecues without filters have been banned in Lahore "hot-spots".

Air purifiers are luxury for most families, with the cheapest priced at around $90, with the added cost of replacing filters every few months in such extreme pollution.

Safdar and Iqbal do not have air purifiers and instead try to contain their children to one room.

"Preventive measures should have been taken. It's a yearly occurrence," Safdar said of the government.

"Obviously there is something missing in their solution."

A mix of low-grade fuel emissions from factories and vehicles, exacerbated by agricultural stubble burning, blanket the city each winter, trapped by cooler temperatures and slow-moving winds.

The WHO says that air pollution can trigger strokes, heart disease, lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.

It is particularly punishing for children and babies, and the elderly.&nbsp;

Last year, the Punjab government tested artificial rain to try to overcome the smog, and this year, trucks with water cannons sprayed the streets -- with no results.

Special smog counters to triage patients have been established at clinics across the province, with 900 people admitted to hospital in Lahore alone on Tuesday.

Doctor Qurat ul Ain, a hospital doctor for 15 years, witnesses the damage from an emergency room in Lahore. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"This year's smog is much more than previous years and the number of patients suffering from its effects is greater too," she told AFP.

Many arrive with laboured breathing or coughing fits and reddened eyes, often the elderly, children and young men who have breathed in the toxic air while on the back of motorbikes.

"We tell people not to go out and otherwise to wear a mask. We tell them not to touch their eyes with their hands, especially children," she adds.

For days the concentration of polluting micro-particles PM2.5 in Punjab has been dozens of times higher than that deemed tolerable by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Doctor Alia Haider, also a climate activist, is calling for awareness campaigns for patients who often do not know the dangers of smog.

Children from poor neighbourhoods, she said, are the first victims because they live all year round with pollutants of different types.

"We are stuck in our own poison," she said. It's like a cloud of gas over the city."
