The Pakistani government on Thursday (Jun 6) submitted details of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's living conditions inside the prison, rebuffing his accusations of mistreatment by the authorities.

The submission by the government included photographs of the jail cell where Khan is being held along with a list of family and friends, lawyers and party members who have visited Khan since he was put behind bars in August 2023 on corruption charges.

The pictures reportedly showed a collection of books in the cell including Nelson Mandela's autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom", that were apparently indicated to underline how Khan was given permission to read whatever he wished to inside the jail.

The image released by the government also showed a bedroom with a study table, a chair, a single bed, a cooler, and a washbasin next to a washroom in the corner, with a flat TV screen hung on a wall. It shows shirts thrown on the back of the chair and trousers, pants and a towel hung on a wall.

One of the pictures showed a long walkway, describing it as an "exclusive gallery for walking, twice a day."&nbsp;

Khan made an appearance before the court virtually via video-conferencing later on Thursday (June 6)&nbsp;and urged Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to order an inspection of his jail cell.

The court stated that it would appoint a commission that would pay a surprise visit to the jail cell.

Soon after the government submitted the details, his party PTI stood by their chief's claim that he was mistreated and was kept in solitary confinement.

"It is a contradiction to the claim that a former prime minister is entitled to an A-class cell with an air-conditioned room and a helper to attend to the errands," his party said in response to the submission.

Police arrested at least 25 people in Pakistan's Punjab province after reports of an angry mob torturing a person from the minority Christian community surfaced.

As per Geo News, the man was tortured by the mob over the alleged desecration of Islam's holy book, the Quran.

The situation turned violent when the mob set ablaze the man's house situated in the Mujahid Colony residential area of Sargodha, damaged his belongings. The mob also set a shoe factory established within the building on fire.

The angry men also torched tyres and damaged the electricity installations in the area.

Police, upon receiving the information, rescued the man and his father and shifted them to an undisclosed location.

The police officials said that they had to resort to tear gas shelling to disperse the mob and apprehended at least 25 people who were allegedly involved in the riots.&nbsp;

“When police arrived, the mob had gathered outside the houses. Officers cordoned off the area and safely evacuated all residents,” the Dawn quoted Sargodha District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Ejaz Malhi as saying.

The police said that the situation was brought under control.

“The police peacefully dispersed the crowd,” he added.

RPO Siddiqui, according to Geo News, said that the probe into the incident was initiated by the police and that legal action would be taken against the ones found guilty of committing blasphemy.

Sargodha Division Commissioner Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti vowed justice and ensured that a transparent inquiry would be held into the matter.

He also confirmed that no one was killed in the incident.

“Only one person sustained injuries in the incident,” the commissioner said, adding that the individual was at present in a stable condition and would be discharged from the hospital very soon.

Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media, after which Minority Rights March released a statement saying that the footage showed how a 70-year-old man was attacked by the mob “on the instigation of a local cleric” while his home and factory were being burned down.

“The videos of the attack clearly show officers of the Punjab police being present on the site as silent spectators which points towards their tacit approval and facilitation of the terrorists involved in the attack,” the statement said.

“We are in touch with our students. The situation is presently calm but students are advised to stay indoors for the moment and get in touch with the Embassy in case of any issue. Our 24×7 contact number is &nbsp;0555710041,” said the Embassy of India in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, in a post on X. &nbsp;

The warning comes amid reports that a few hostels of medical universities in Bishkek, where students from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are staying have been attacked amid the violence.

There are reportedly around&nbsp;15,000 Indian students are estimated to be in Kyrgyzstan.

<h2>Violence against students in Kyrgyzstan</h2>

According to the Pakistan Embassy in the Central Asian country, a few hostels of medical universities in Bishkek and private residences of international students including Pakistanis have been attacked.

“The hostels are inhabited by students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. There have been reports of light injuries to several students from Pakistan,” said Pakistan’s Kyrgyzstan consulate in a post on X.&nbsp;

It added, “Despite social media posts about alleged death and rape of Pakistani students, so far, we have not received any confirmed report.”

Multiple reports on social media have claimed that at least three Pakistani students have been killed amid the violence, but it was not immediately confirmed by officials.&nbsp;

However, a statement by Pakistan’s foreign ministry indicates that at least five students have been injured.&nbsp;

In a statement, on Saturday, Pakistan’s foreign ministry confirmed that there were “mob riots” in the Kyrghyz Republic and said that they are in contact with the Central Asian country’s government.&nbsp;

“The Kyrghyz authorities have expressed regret at the incidents of violence against foreign nationals including Pakistanis in Bishkek last night. They have also pledged to hold an inquiry and punish the perpetrators,” said Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.&nbsp;

Pakistan’s embassy in the country has opened emergency helplines and is responding to queries of students and their families, while ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Hassan Ali Zaigham has been in close contact with senior Kyrgyz authorities.&nbsp;

“According to the Kyrgyz Health Ministry, four Pakistanis were provided first aid and discharged while one is under treatment for jaw injury,” said the Pakistan foreign ministry.&nbsp;

Pakistan’s foreign ministry also said that the Charge d’affaires of the Kyrgyz Embassy Melis Moldaliev was called to the Foreign Office for a “demarche” by Director General Aizaz Khan.&nbsp;

“He was conveyed the deep concerns of the Government of Pakistan about the reports of last night’s incidents against Pakistani students studying in the Kyrgyz Republic.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his concern over the situation in Bishkek and said Islamabad is “constantly monitoring the situation”.&nbsp;

“Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani &nbsp;students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed Pakistan's Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance. My office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation,” said the Pakistan PM, in a post on X.

<h2>'Situation under control'</h2>

"From the moment information about the incident was received, law enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic took prompt measures to detain persons involved in the event, both foreign and citizens of the&nbsp;Kyrgyz Republic," said the&nbsp;Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, in a statement.&nbsp;

However, local officials are yet to specify how many people were detained. It added, "The situation was completely under the control of the security forces. The safety of citizens and public order was ensured."&nbsp;

Pakistan grapples with a disturbing trend as there are estimated 50-55 suicides every day, with 70% of victims being young people between the age of 15 and 29 years.&nbsp;

Mental health experts warn that suicide has become the fourth leading cause of death among this age group.

The experts quoting the World Health Organisation (WHO), said 19,331 suicidal deaths were reported in 2019 in Pakistan, of which 14,771 were males and 4,560 were females.

“Academic pressure, family disputes, and lack of economic opportunities, highlighting the cumulative stress young people face. Cyber bullying, excessive social media use, and substance abuse are to blame for,” said Dr. Syed Usman Hamdani, Founding Director, Global Institute of Human Development-Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (GIHD-STMU, during a debate.

The debate titled “Mapping Youth Mental Health Landscapes: Insights from Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia and Vietnam,” was organised by the GIHD-STMU at Shifa College of Medicine.

Experts said that in low and middle-income countries like Pakistan, up to 90% of young people’s mental health needs are unmet due to a lack of resources.

According to the mental health landscape analysis conducted in Pakistan, stress, anxiety, depression, drug abuse, suicidal ideations, aggression, hopelessness, helplessness, and lack of confidence are some of the most pressing mental health issues faced by the youth in Pakistan.

Former SAPM Dr. Zafar Mirza said, “Pakistan in addition to political and economic crisis, questioning how youth could be mentally healthy when 40% of children are malnourished and stunted, while millions of children are facing social media crisis.”

The experts strongly encourages anyone, especially young people struggling with mental health, to seek help without shame.

Dr. Abdul Wahab Yousafzai, head of psychiatry at Shifa International Hospital, said in Malakand division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, over 1,600 people died by suicide between 2018 and 2021.

“As per my research, around 340 people committed suicide in first quarter of 2018 in Malakand division, while in Chitral, 700 people died by suicide in three years. Mostly were adolescents who ended their lives,” Prof. Yousafzai added.

According to the mental health landscape analysis conducted in Pakistan, stress, anxiety, depression, drug abuse, suicidal ideations, aggression, hopelessness, helplessness, and lack of confidence are some of the most pressing mental health issues faced by the youth in Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Wahab Yousafzai, head of psychiatry at Shifa International Hospital, said in Malakand division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, over 1,600 people died by suicide between 2018 and 2021. “As per my research, around 340 people committed suicide in first quarter of 2018 in Malakand division, while in Chitral, 700 people died by suicide in three years. Mostly were adolescents who ended their lives,” Prof. Yousafzai added. Pakistan sees alarming increase in youth suicides

China is set to launch its robotic spacecraft Chang'e-6 on Friday (May 3) which will make a round trip and collect samples from the far side of the moon.

Chang'e-6, which is made using the backup spacecraft from the 2020 mission, will gather rocks and soil from the region that has stayed away from the earth's view permanently.

The Chinese spacecraft will rely on the relay satellite that has been recently deployed and in its 53-day mission is orbiting the moon.

The same relay satellite will also back China's future mission, i.e.&nbsp;Chang'e-7 and 8 missions in 2026 and 2028 respectively as Beijing aims to explore the south pole for water and also build a rudimentary outpost with Russia.&nbsp;

Chang'e 6 will make an attempt to land on the northeastern side of the vast South Pole-Aitkin Basin, which is also known as the oldest impact crater in the solar system.

The scientists describe the South Pole as the "golden belt" for lunar exploration.

The samples that Chang'e 6 plans to gather from outer space could also help researchers understand the early evolution of the moon and the inner solar system.

The lunar samples in the near past have been collected by the United States and the former Soviet Union in the 1970s and China in 2020.

Those samples were from the moon's near side, where&nbsp;volcanism is said to be far more active.

After making a successful landing, Chang'e-6 plans to collect about 2 kilogrammes (4.4 pounds) of samples with a mechanical scoop and a drill.

"If successful, China's Chang'e-6 mission would be a milestone-making event," Leonard David, author of "Moon Rush: The New Space Race", told news agency Reuters. "The robotic reach to the Moon's far side, and bringing specimens back to Earth, helps fill in the blanks about the still-murky origin of our Moon."

The IMF has approved an immediate disbursal of the final tranche of $1.1 billion to Pakistan as part of a bailout package, emphasising that the cash-strapped country needs to take tough measures to bring its economy back on track.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board's decision on Monday came after the global lender completed the second and final review of Pakistan's economic reform programme supported by the IMF's Stand-By Arrangement (SBA).

She further stressed that advancing the reform of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and ensuring that all SOEs fall under the new policy framework, strengthening governance and anti-corruption institutions, and continuing to build climate resilience was the priority.

The IMF official said Pakistan will receive the loan payment this week.

Sayeh emphasised Pakistan needed to "adhere to a market-determined exchange rate to absorb external shocks and broaden structural reforms to support stronger and more inclusive growth".

"Moreover, stronger action to address undercapitalised financial institutions and, more broadly, vigilance over the financial sector are needed to ensure financial stability," she said in a statement.

The development came a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

An IMF team is expected to visit Pakistan in May to initiate talks for a new long-term Extended Fund Facility (EFF) ranging between $6 to $8 billion with the possibility of augmentation through climate financing.

However, the exact size and time frame will only be determined after evolving consensus on the major contours of the next programme in May 2024.

If secured, it would be Pakistan's 24th IMF bailout.

Separately, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said all indicators of the economy were negative and the government's decision to seek another bailout from the IMF was an admission of their "failure", The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

"Economic growth stalls and inflation rises due to such agreements with the IMF," he said, adding that the "IMF keeps you alive, but your economic condition deteriorates on every parameter."

"Your industry cannot thrive if political issues remain unresolved, as everything is interconnected. Do not harbour the illusion that things will improve spontaneously," he cautioned.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was appointed as the country’s deputy prime minister on Sunday (Apr 28) with “immediate effect,” said a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.&nbsp;

However, he lost after a deal between PML-N and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). This comes as Sharif’s PML-N had to win PPP’s support to form the coalition government.&nbsp;

The PML-N and the PPP agreed to form the government despite independents backed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party winning majority seats of the 266-member National Assembly.

In the current government, Dar is not only the foreign minister but also a part of the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

Iran and Pakistan released a joint statement on Wednesday (Apr 24) urging the United Nations Security Council to take stern action against Israel stating that the country had targeted neighbouring countries and foreign diplomatic facilities "illegally".

The development came following Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's three-day visit to Pakistan amid an escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

"Recognising that the irresponsible act of the Israeli regime forces was a major escalation in an already volatile region, both sides called on the UN Security Council to prevent the Israeli regime from its adventurism in the region and its illegal acts attacking its neighbours...," Iran and Pakistan said in their joint statement released by Pakistan's foreign ministry.

Last week, explosions were reported in Iran's Isfahan, what Tehran said was an Israeli attack.&nbsp;

However, Iran said that it has no plans to retaliate against Israel.&nbsp;

The visit by Raisi was aimed at mending ties between neighbouring countries Iran and Pakistan where the Iranian President vowed to give a push to the trade between both countries by $10 billion a year.

"Both sides agreed to increase the volume of bilateral trade to 10 billion U.S. dollars in the next five years," Sharif's office said in a statement after a joint news briefing.

"They also agreed to cooperate in developing joint approaches to confront common challenges including the threat of terrorism," the statement said.

Around 1,370 houses were also damaged in the province, said Anwar. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Punjab province reported 21 lighting- and collapse-related deaths.&nbsp;

Balochistan, in the country’s southwest, declared a state of emergency following flash floods and is said to be bracing for more rains in the upcoming days amid the ongoing rescue and relief operations, on Wednesday.&nbsp;

At least 10 people have been killed in the southwestern province, according to the local officials. Zaheer Ahmed Babar, a senior official at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) told the AP that the country is witnessing more than usual rainfall in April, due to climate change.&nbsp;

According to Babar, Balochistan has witnessed 353 per cent more rainfall than normal, while the overall rainfall has been 99 per cent higher than the average across the country.&nbsp;

This comes a day after the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan, in a post on X said more than 1,200 families have been affected due to the floods and that the UN and its partners are “assessing the impact and related needs and providing assistance.”

India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday (Apr 11) launched a scathing attack on Pakistan stating that if the country finds itself incapable of eliminating terrorism originating from its territory, it must take New Delhi's help.

Singh further warned Islamabad to be ready to face dire consequences if it tries to destabilise India via terrorism. &nbsp;

"If Pakistan attempts to destabilize India through terrorism, it will have to face the consequences. Pakistan needs to control terrorism. If Pakistan thinks that it is not capable of controlling it, if they feel they are not capable, then India is a neighbour, if they want to take India’s help, they should. India is ready to provide all assistance to combat terrorism,” he said in an interview with news agency ANI.

The Union defence minister further said that if Pakistan's intentions are clear, it must take strong action against cross-border terrorism.

"They are our neighbours, and if their intention is clear that terrorism should end, they should do that themselves or take help from India…we both can end terrorism. But this is their call, I am just giving a suggestion," he added. &nbsp;

<h2>'Will not tolerate terrorists to operate within Indian borders'</h2>

The veteran BJP leader then said that India will not allow terrorists to operate within the country's borders and that it will do everything to stop it.

<h2>'Could not perform mother's last rites,' says Singh</h2>

Hitting out at the opposition over its accusations of an "undeclared emergency" under the BJP-led government, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh&nbsp;recalled the arrests during the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government in the year 1975 and stated that he was jailed for eighteen months, and was not&nbsp;granted parole to visit his ailing mother. He could also not&nbsp;attend her last rites.

''I was not given parole to attend my mother's last rites during the Emergency and now they (Congress) call us dictators," the defence minister told news agency ANI.

"Those who imposed dictatorship through Emergency, they accuse us of being dictatorial," he further said.

Singh said that he was made convenor for Mirzapur-Sonbhadra during the JP Movement against Emergency which was imposed in June 1975 and continued till March 1977.

The World Bank’s biannual Pakistan Development Outlook report painted a grim economic picture, indicating that the country is set to miss almost all major macroeconomic targets.

The international lender said the country is anticipated to fall short of its primary budget target, remaining in deficit for three consecutive years, contrary to the International Monetary Fund's stipulations mandating a surplus.

The economic growth is projected to stagnate at a paltry 1.8 per cent while maintaining the poverty rate at around 40 per cent, with approximately 98 million Pakistanis already grappling with poverty, the World Bank report said.

The report underlined the vulnerability of those hovering just above the poverty line, with 10 million individuals at risk of slipping into poverty.

The report said that the poor and vulnerable are likely to have benefited from the windfall gain in agricultural output, but these gains were offset by continued high inflation and limited wage growth in other sectors that employ many of the poor, such as construction, trade, and transportation.

The wages of daily labourers increased only five per cent in nominal terms during the first quarter of this fiscal year when the inflation was above 30 per cent, it said.

The persisting cost-of-living crisis, coupled with rising transportation costs, could potentially lead to an increase in out-of-school children and delayed medical treatments, particularly for worse-off families, warned the World Bank.

At the same time, it added that food security remains a concern in parts of the country.

Among 43 rural districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan, many of which were impacted by the 2022 floods, the prevalence of acute food insecurity is also projected to increase from 29 per cent to 32 per cent in the third quarter of this fiscal year, the report said.

“Poverty reduction is projected to stall in the medium term due to weak growth, low real labour incomes, and persistently high inflation," said the World Bank.

Chronic inflation in the absence of substantial growth, along with policy uncertainty, could cause social discontent and have negative welfare impacts, warned the global lender.

“Despite some recovery, Pakistan’s economy remains under stress with low foreign reserves and high inflation. Policy uncertainty remains elevated, and economic activity is subdued, reflecting tight fiscal and monetary policy and import controls,” the World Bank said.

The Washington-based lender said growth is projected to remain below potential with heightened social vulnerability and limited poverty reduction in the medium term.

“Financial sector risks, policy uncertainty, and stronger external headwinds pose significant risks to the outlook,” it added.

Pakistan’s current account deficit (CAD) narrowed to USD 0.8 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year from USD 3.6 billion in the first half of the last fiscal year, on import controls, reduced domestic demand, and lower global commodity prices, the report said.

Meanwhile, official remittances fell by 6.8 per cent year-on-year in the first half of the current fiscal year due to exchange rate rigidities earlier in the year.

For the next fiscal year too, the World Bank projected a 15 per cent inflation rate.

“Inflation is projected to remain elevated at 26 per cent in FY24 due to higher domestic energy prices, with little respite for poor and vulnerable households with depleted savings and lower real incomes,” it said.

The World Bank said the fiscal deficit is projected to increase to 8 per cent of GDP or Rs 8.5 trillion in this fiscal year due to higher interest payments, which is far higher than the official target of 6.5 per cent.

It said that the deficit will only gradually decline over the medium term as interest payments decrease and fiscal consolidation measures take hold.

As against the IMF target of a primary budget surplus of Rs 400 billion, the World Bank said there will be a primary deficit of 0.1 per cent of GDP in this fiscal year. It has projected the deficit for the next two fiscal years as well.

The Majeed Brigade of the Balochistan Liberation Army, a proscribed separatist militant organisation based in Afghanistan, has claimed responsibility for the heavy attack that was marked by intense gunfire and multiple explosions.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Munir Akram formally announced the cash-strapped country’s candidacy at a reception organised in connection with Pakistan Day celebrations at the UN on Thursday, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

Seeking support from the international community for Pakistan’s UNSC bid, Ambassador Akram expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to "contribute meaningfully to the UNSC’s mandate for international peace and security".

The reception, which was held at the Pakistani Mission to the UN in New York, was attended by UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Dennis Francis, top diplomats from the UN permanent missions and others, the report said.

The envoy emphasised Pakistan’s consistent efforts to champion the causes of the Global South and promote cooperative multilateralism. He also highlighted the country’s contributions to the UN, the report said.

Akram said Pakistan’s foreign policy is “rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, including the non-use or threat of force in international relations, respect for sovereignty, and territorial integrity, right to self-determination and non-interference in internal affairs of states”.

He mentioned Pakistan’s services to key UN bodies, including the UNSC, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Human Rights Council and Group of 77 besides the country’s significant contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, with over 200,000 service members, serving in 46 missions worldwide, the report said.

Government prosecutor Mohazib Awais stated that Aasiya Bibi, a woman arrested in 2021, faced blasphemy charges following accusations from residents that she had burned pages of the Quran, leading to her arrest. 
Awais said the judge announced the verdict Wednesday (March 20) in the eastern city of Lahore. He said Bibi, who has the right to appeal, had denied the charge during her trial.

It may be mentioned here, a Christian woman with the same name was acquitted of blasphemy in 2019 after she spent eight years on death row in Pakistan. Later, she moved to Canada to escape death threats from Islamic extremists upon her release.

Wednesday’s case involved a different woman.

Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) fact-finding team looking into the matter stated that both the sanity workers were forced to go inside the choked manhole of the sewerage that was located outside a wedding hall and were asked to clean it without providing them with any hygienic kits, or masks.

They died while attempting the task due to toxic gases, according to an official release.

Naveed Walter, president of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP), alleged that this is not the first time such an incident has taken place with sanitary workers and that a spate of such episodes have occurred in the past as well.

He said that in WASA and FWMC cases, despite HRFP raising concerns multiple times over important steps and precautionary measures to be taken so as to safeguard the protection of the minority group in the country, no development has been witnessed yet, added the official release.

Highlighting the plight of sanitation workers in the country, the president of HRFP said that many lost their lives whereas many became disabled and developed different kinds of health issues.

Their families did not have any social security, insurance, or any sort of protection measures during and after such incidents. &nbsp;

He stated that the murders of sanitary workers through duties was "unacceptable".&nbsp;

WASA, FWMC, local admirations and the government should take immediate action for the provision of all needed resources and safety equipment.

The Corporate Safety Management and Air Crew Medical Centre recommended that PIA pilots and cabin crew members should not observe fasts while on duty for international or domestic flights.

“The PIA's top management, based on these recommendations, has issued compliance orders to the pilots and cabin crew personnel with immediate effect,” an official of the ailing airline said.

“The recommendations have specifically stated that when a person is fasting, he faces dehydration and issues of laziness and sleep,” the official added.

The directive comes after a probe team of the Aircrafts Investigation Board concluded its investigation into an accident of a PIA Airbus flight which crashed in a crowded neighbourhood of a housing society near the Karachi Airport in May 2020.

The team attributed the mishap to human errors.

The board stated that the primary cause of the fatal incident, that claimed the lives of 101 people onboard the flight, was the lack of sound judgement by the two pilots during the landing.

Miraculously two of the passengers&nbsp;survived.

A top Pakistani court on Thursday allowed Imran Khan to meet four lawyers of his party at the Adiala jail, days after the Punjab provincial government banned the former prime minister from holding any meetings at the prison for two weeks.

Citing security reasons, the Punjab province government – led by Maryam Nawaz of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and arch-rival of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – on Tuesday imposed a two-week ban on all public visits, meetings and interviews at the high-security Adiala Jail at Rawalpindi, where the former prime minister Khan is lodged since last August.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday allowed four PTI party lawyers to meet party founder Khan at the high-security prison after hearing a petition against the two-week ban on meetings with Adiala jail inmates, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

During the hearing, the jail superintendent said they had orders to allow six people apart from the lawyers to meet the 71-year-old former-cricketer-turned-politician but added that they couldn't allow six people daily in a jail that houses seven thousand prisoners.

Asserting that the jail superintendent had been giving new excuses during every hearing, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir said, "If you do not follow court orders, why should we not initiate contempt proceedings against you?" Ramadan 2024: Crescent moon sighted in India and Pakistan

At least two people were killed and another suffered injuries in a suicide blast which took place near the Board Bazaar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar on Sunday morning (Mar 10), said officials.&nbsp;

Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Bilal Faizi confirmed that two people were killed and another one was injured, as reported by Dawn.

He said that the dead bodies and wounded were shifted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

<h2>Explosives planted in motorcycle</h2>

“As per preliminary and unconfirmed reports, explosives were planted in a motorcycle parked in the area,” said the official, adding that the police have cordoned off the blast site and a rescue operation is underway.

As per SSP Operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi, the blast was a ‘suicide’ attack. However, no militant group has till now claimed responsibility for the&nbsp;blast.

Speaking to the media, Peshawar Senior Superintendent of Police (Operation) Kashif Aftab Abbasi said officials of the Counter Terrorism Department as well as other law enforcement agencies reached the site and have been collecting evidence.

“We have found an almost mutilated body and a damaged motorcycle here,” Abbasi said, adding that an investigation is being carried out to understand the nature of the blast.

In the past year, there has been an increase in terror activities in Pakistan, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the ceasefire was ended by the banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan with the government in November 2022.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said a day earlier that 10 militants were killed in two different operations carried out by North Waziristan district's security forces.&nbsp;

The application for suspension of the arrest warrant was filed by Hussain and Hassan, through their counsel Qazi Misbahul Hassan. The arrest warrants were earlier issued against them in the Avenfield Apartments, Al-Azizia, and Flagship Investment cases.

The decision was announced by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana in the Avenfield reference on Thursday (Mar 7).

It was stated in the court order that “both the accused are allowed to surrender before the court, failing which the law shall take its own course", as reported by Dawn.

The order issued by the court emphasised that Nawaz Sharif's sons wished to surrender before the court “in good faith” so as to face court proceedings.

The order said that the court agreed with the submission of the NAB prosecutor that “the purpose of the perpetual warrant of arrest is to procure the attendance of the accused and if the accused intends to surrender himself before the court, he may be given an opportunity to face the trial.”

Representing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar, Usman Masood and Sohail Arif appeared in court on Thursday (Mar 7).&nbsp;

In the court hearing, Barrister Misbah argued that interim bail was given to both Hassan and Hussain, however, still the authorities issued perpetual arrest warrants against them.

He informed the judge that out of five accused in the Avenfield reference, three were sentenced by an accountability court and the Islamabad High Court later acquitted them.

In a coordinated operation on Wednesday night (Mar 6), the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police apprehended three terrorists near Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail where Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan is serving a 14-year sentence.

The arrested individuals, who reportedly hail from Afghanistan, were allegedly going to carry out terrorist attack in the area.

The police, as per an Associated Press of Pakistan report, recovered explosives and a map of the high-security jail from the terrorists.

As per the report citing a police spokesperson, the operation was based on intelligence inputs. Reportedly, the law enforcement officers were alerted to the presence of terrorists in the area.&nbsp;

Confirming the successful operation, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani informed the press that CTD in collaboration with the police carried out the joint operation.

He also revealed that, along with the arrest of three terrorists, officers recovered sophisticated weapons, including explosives and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), along with the prison map.

As per Hamdani, police and law enforcement agencies are conducting further search operations in the vicinity of Adiala Jail.

The apprehended terrorists have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

The former Pakistan prime minister has been lodged in the high-security Adiala Jail due to several cases.

The resolution submitted by party Senator Falak Naz Chitrali alleged that the leaders were convicted under 'false cases,' and said "Political vendetta has destroyed the country’s economy and reputation."
