Latif continued by saying that it’s not any bilateral series that BCCI can refuse to travel to Pakistan and that it’s an ICC event for which India, like all other participating nations, signed up, and on those grounds, must adhere to it.

“This is an ICC event. The cycle has been signed from 2024-2031. All the broadcasters and sponsors have signed about the teams that will participate in the Champions Trophy or the World Cup," Latif said during the Geo News show.

“If a team denies to participate, they need to have a solid reason to justify their call. Just like in 1996, the West Indies and Australia did not go to Sri Lanka but still reached the final. If you make a reason for security, then it is not a solid reason. Teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa are coming to Pakistan," he added.

“There are no issues in Dubai. Hotels are not a problem, logistics not a problem, everything can be handled smoothly. And ICC does have things in control when it comes to Dubai,” the source added.

Meanwhile, per the draft schedule, Pakistan handpicked three cities to host the Champions Trophy 2025 – Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, with several reports suggesting that India was placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

As reported by WION earlier, the proposed schedule included India’s matches against Bangladesh in Lahore on February 20, New Zealand on the 23rd and the marquee clash against the hosts Pakistan on March 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium.

And so all levers of power must remain with it. The ‘India threat theory’ became more pronounced and convincing to public after humiliating defeat in the 1971 war against India, resulting the country losing East Pakistan as liberated sovereign Bangladesh. Even when not ruling the country directly, the army has always maintained the over-riding authority over nation’s defence, internal security, foreign affairs and more recently over its economy. This will not change in future.

The army’s narrative was backed by exposing corruption of all the politicians at opportune moments as most politicians repeatedly proved their corrupt credentials in public eye, making them unreliable to hold real power. Although army generals are no less corrupt but they have been able to control their own exposure to public, due to absolute hold over all the concerned agencies and establishments, including judiciary.&nbsp;

<h2>Why did Pakistan army dump&nbsp;Imran Khan?</h2>

During last election Imran Khan appeared to be the candidate 'selected' by the army. Once he challenged it over some of the issues, the clash started. This ultimately led to PTI supporters actually attacking a few army establishments. The deep state thereafter has been trying out various alternatives to keep him out of power, even if it amounts to dry-cleaning Nawaz Sharif of all his previous wrong doings and pushing him as viable option. The Pakistan army is trying to ensure that it doesn’t face any challenge from politicians.&nbsp;

The only challenge which the army faces is from terrorist organisations like the Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (TTP), the Baluchistan Liberation Army. Such groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan are actively attacking the Pakistan army, and this situation will not alter regardless of the outcome of the elections/political settlement. The election doesn’t bring any hope for improvement of internal security situation.

With a hung parliament, despite PTI-backed independent candidates and supporters claiming victory, the PML(N)’s claim of being the largest political party, may well facilitate&nbsp;mustering of the required numbers by encouraging the other political parties and some independents to join. There may be some adjustments, permutations and a combination of power-sharing among the parties concerned, but a weak democratic government at the mercy of the Pakistan army will emerge to face an unprecedented economic and political crisis.

In case the puppet regime fails to resolve the crisis, becomes unpopular or follows the narrative uncomfortable to the army (like improving relations with India or hindering smooth operations of terrorists), the army will have a popular leader like Imran Khan in reserve. One whose image can easily be dry-cleaned (as has been done in case of Nawaz Sharif) and be reinstated through non confidence motion at appropriate time. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Pakistan's strategic location and it’s control over some of the terrorist groups is still important for United States, in case it has to launch any operation against any terror organisation like Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. USA has supported dictatorship in Pakistan historically to suit its strategic aims in Af-Pak Region and it is used to dealing with Pakistan army directly, closing its eyes to sham democratic credentials of Pakistan. The non-committal statements from US State Department indicate that whichever is the party in power, US will work with it as it knows that finally it will deal with the army/establishment, which will not change. China too needs the strategic space in Pakistan for its China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and finds the army a useful tool as nuisance creator to India through proxy war. Both, USA and China, do not see any political leadership stable enough for long-term engagement and prefer to work with Pakistan army, whom they see as relatively reliable. Pakistan army will continue to ignore international criticism about its treatment to PTI and Imran Khan, with support of P5 member like China.

In view of that the election outcome does not bring any hope of better relations between India and Pakistan, unless the dire economic and internal situation in Pakistan forces the army to change its stance towards India. Irrespective of the outcome of government formation, Pakistan is likely to remain politically and economically unstable, which is not a good news for the region.&nbsp;

Pakistan elections 2024: Army modifies methodology of selecting PM

Pakistan's national air carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that its offices will stay closed from October 14 to October 16.

According to an ARY News report, this closure is in line with security measures Islamabad is putting in place ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

During this period, airport staff will still perform their duties. In a circular, the airline said that its employees working in shifts at the airport will continue with their duties during the closure.

According to the police report, officers in the city of Mirpur Khas tried to stop two men riding on a motorcycle on Wednesday, in order to search their vehicle.&nbsp;

The local police chief Niaz Khoso said that instead of stopping, the men opened fire and tried to flee, which prompted police to return fire. One of the suspects was said to have fled on the motorcycle, however, the other was killed.&nbsp;

Khoso said that the police got to know that the slain man was the doctor accused of the alleged blasphemy, only after the shootout.&nbsp;

However, the Sindh government did not immediately clarify the circumstances.&nbsp;

The killing of the doctor drew strong condemnation from Pakistan's independent human rights groups, including the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCH).&nbsp;

India pushes for revisions to Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan

Pakistani police on Monday (Sept 9) arrested several top leaders of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party following clashes between protesters and law enforcement near a rally demanding Khan's release.

Among those detained were Barrister Gohar Khan, the PTI chairperson, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, and Advocate Shoaib Shaheen. Video footage circulated online showed police taking the PTI president from his vehicle.&nbsp;

PTI stated that other senior members were also arrested, but did not specify the total number.

<h2>The protest&nbsp;</h2>

The arrests came after a Sunday protest where tens of thousands of PTI supporters gathered peacefully in Islamabad, demanding the release of Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for nearly a year following a graft case conviction.&nbsp;

Violence erupted a mile from the protest site, leaving several police officers injured.&nbsp;

PTI leaders, at the rally reportedly threatened to forcefully free Khan if he was not released within two weeks.&nbsp;

Authorities announced that charges would be brought against Ali Amin Gandapur for inciting violence. However, as per an AP report, his whereabouts remain unclear. His spokesperson told local media that they had lost contact with Gandapur, the top elected official in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

<h2>PTI denounces arrests</h2>

PTI condemned the arrests and said they were an attack on democracy.&nbsp;

Referring to the Marwat's arrest, it said on X: "PMLN government should be completely ashamed of this step against a sitting MNA."

"This must be considered a direct attack on democracy."

'Direct attack' on democracy: Pakistan police arrests top PTI leaders, Imran Khan supporters in Islamabad

A 20-year-old Pakistani citizen, residing in Canada and arrested for planning a terror attack in New York, was aiming for it to be the 'largest attack on the US soil' - analysis of his social media footprint has revealed.&nbsp;

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as Shazeb Jadoon, was arrested in Canada on Wednesday (Sep 4) and charged with&nbsp;attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organisation (FTO), the Islamic State (IS).&nbsp;

Khan was planning a terrorist attack in the Big Apple around October 7 - the first anniversary of Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel, according to US Attorney General Merrick B. Garland.

Khan started posting about his support for the IS in or about November last year on social media and other encrypted messaging apps.&nbsp;

"If we succeed with our plan, this would be the largest attack on US soil since 9/11," he said in one of the messages.

<h2>Khan's planning for the attack</h2>

The Pakistani national was only arrested after he started conversing with two undercover law enforcement officers.&nbsp; He confirmed that alongside him, a US-based IS supporter, identified as "Associate-1" in the documents, was also planning to carry out an attack in a US city.&nbsp;

Khan was to travel from Canada to New York where he intended to use "automatic and semi-automatic weapons to carry out a mass shooting in support of IS&nbsp;at a Jewish centre in Brooklyn".&nbsp;

Khan emphasised that “Oct 7 and Oct 11&nbsp;are the best days for targeting the Jews” because “Oct 7 they will surely have some protests and Oct 11 is Yom Kippur".&nbsp;

Khan boasted that NY was the perfect city to target Jews as it has the largest "jewish population in America" and "even&nbsp;if we don't attack an&nbsp;event, we could rack up easily a lot of jews".&nbsp;

“We are going to NYC to slaughter them," he added.&nbsp;

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and&nbsp;Los Angeles Field Offices are investigating the case.&nbsp;The Office of International Affairs of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division is seeking the extradition of Khan from Canada.

If convicted, Khan faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The police also contacted the Belgian embassy, which said it had no information about such a person travelling to Pakistan and referred them to the Netherlands mission as the area she pointed out to be her native place lay on the border of the two&nbsp;countries.

The Supreme Court's short order on July 12 allowed PTI to secure seats reserved for women and minorities in the assemblies. The court directed PTI to submit a list of eligible candidates for these seats to the Election Commission of Pakistan within 15 days, with the commission expected to publish the list within seven days.

However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have filed a review petition against the Supreme Court's decision.&nbsp;

Qaiser demanded an end to the "baseless cases" against PTI leaders, highlighting the continued arrests of party members.

BYC also said, “Yesterday, Pakistani forces opened fire on the peaceful caravan of Baloch Raaji Muchi Karachi in Kund Malir. The security forces forcibly turned the caravan back. In response, the caravan has begun a sit-in at Zero Point and Zero Point will be blocked until they are allowed to join Baloch Raaji Muchi in Gwadar.”

Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home Affairs while addressing a supplementary question from Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that active terrorists will either face imprisonment or be sent to "jahannum" (hell).

Rai reiterated the Prime Minister&nbsp;Narendra Modi government's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and added&nbsp;that security forces had killed 28 terrorists in the Union Territory over the past few days.

"The Modi government has zero tolerance for terrorism. We will end terrorism. They (terrorists) will be either in jail or jahannum. I want to assure the House," Rai declared.

Rai claimed that terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir had significantly decreased, from 7,217 during the UPA's tenure to 2,259 as of July this year.

Rai further reported that Jammu and Kashmir had seen a surge in tourism, with 2.11 crore tourists visiting in 2023. "Peace has been restored there, which is why tourists are increasing," he added.

According to Rai, from January to June 2024, a total of 1,08,41,009 tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir. This followed an all-time high of 2,11,24,674 tourists in 2023, and 1,88,64,332 tourists in 2022, compared to 1,13,14,884 in 2021 and 34,70,834 in 2020.

'Jail or Hell': Indian minister lays out choice for Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday (Jul&nbsp;23) refused to undergo polygraph, photogrammetry, and voice matching tests, despite efforts by a Lahore police team to interrogate him regarding a dozen cases linked to the May 9 riots.

A 12-member team, led by DSP Javed Asif and including officials from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), arrived at Adiala Jail, where Khan has been imprisoned for nearly a year, to question the former Pak PM&nbsp;and conduct the necessary forensic tests.

As per Pakistani newspaper&nbsp;Dawn reports, Khan initially refused to answer police questions, citing distrust in the authorities and demanded&nbsp;the presence of his lawyers.&nbsp;

This was the second visit by the Lahore police team.&nbsp;Previously, on Monday (Jul&nbsp;22), a team led by DSP Javed arrived at Adiala jail at 4 pm and waited for about 3.5 hours to investigate Khan. However, Khan refused to allow the team to proceed with their investigation.

Citing an official privy to the development, Dawn stated that the investigative team&nbsp;informed Khan of his status as a nominated accused person in 12 cases related to anti-terrorism. He was&nbsp;also charged with inciting the public against the state, along with other charges&nbsp;stemming from the violent protests on May&nbsp;9.&nbsp;

Khan was also reminded that he was on physical remand as allowed by the court, and the investigation officers required his cooperation for interrogation in the cases.

The police officials questioned Khan about various aspects of the May 9 riots, which targeted the Lahore corps commander’s residence, military installations, and public properties.

Following their visit, the police team and PFSA experts briefed Lahore DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar on Khan's lack of cooperation. The matter will now be discussed in a meeting of senior police officers who will devise a strategy for a follow-up visit in consultation with the prosecution department.

Weighing approximately 2560 kilogrammes and stored in 103 drums, each containing 25 kg, the shipment was an onboard vessel Hyundai Shanghai that sailed under the Cypriot flag, on April 18, from Shanghai Port, China. On its journey to Karachi, the vessel made a stop at Kattupalli Port in Tamil Nadu on May 8 where Indian customs authorities during a routine check detained the consignment.

The chemical, which is on India's export control list 'SCOMET' (Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies (SCOMET)) as a controlled substance led to further investigation. Once confirmed that the shipment contained Ortho-Chloro Benzylidene Malononitrile, a substance listed under the Wassenaar Arrangement as well, an international arms control regime to which India is a signatory, it was seized.&nbsp;

Pakistan has hit the bottom of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Gender Gap Index, second only to Sudan. As per the 2024 Global Gender Gap Index released last month, Pakistan ranks 145 on a list of 146 nations.&nbsp;

In the latest Global Gender Gap Index, Pakistan has fallen from the 142nd rank last year to 145th this year, indicating a worsening situation for women.

Women's rights activists in Pakistan, as reported by Dawn, have called for a renewed commitment from both the state and society to address gender disparity and redefine the societal roles assigned to women.&nbsp;

"It's not the issue of this year only. Pakistan’s position has been dismal since I have been seeing this index for the last 15, 16 years. Our country has been having almost the same position with a little difference," said Bushra Khaliq, the executive director of the Women in Struggle for Empowerment (WISE).

Every year, the WEF index evaluates gender parity across four dimensions: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.&nbsp;

Pakistan, as per the report, has performed worse than its neighbours India and Bangladesh. Overall, Bangladesh ranks 99th, and India ranks 129th.&nbsp;

Pakistan's performance dimension-wise&nbsp;compared to its neighbours:&nbsp;

- Economic participation and opportunity: Pakistan is ranked 143rd, while India and Bangladesh are slightly better at 142nd and 146th, respectively.

- Educational attainment: Pakistan stands at 139th, with India at 112th and Bangladesh at 125th.

- Health and survival: Faring better than India but worse than Bangladesh, Pakistan is at 132nd. Meanwhile, India is at 142nd and Bangladesh at 129th.

- Political empowerment: Pakistan ranks 112th, with India at 65th and Bangladesh at 7th.

An angry mob lynched a man over alleged discretion of the Holy Quran in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwest Pakistan, said the police.

The man, who was a tourist hailing from Sialkot district of Punjab, allegedly burnt some pages of Islam's holy book in Madyan tehsil of Swat on Thursday (June 20), said District Police Officer (DPO), Swat, Zahidullah.

According to local media reports, the alleged suspect was taken into custody and brought to Madyan police station after some people in the local market reported a man committing blasphemy. They nabbed him and handed him over to the police.

Following this, the crowd gathered outside the police station and demanded the victim be handed over.

The announcements made from mosques in Madyan further triggered the outrage and the crowd forced its way inside the police station to catch hold of the suspect.

The mob set ablaze the police station, shot the man dead, dragged his body to Madyan Adda and hanged it there, said the DPO.

However, a purported video of the incident that is doing rounds on social media claims that the man was burnt alive by the angry crowd.

At least eight people sustained injuries in the ensuing unrest triggered by the incident.&nbsp;

Barrister Sidra Qayyum also posted on X, emphasising the gravity of the situation, "In Swat Pakistan, the body of a tourist from Sialkot was killed and burnt later on the charge of blasphemy, and burning of the Holy Quran. The identity of the man lynched by the mob has yet to be confirmed, however, some local media reports say that he was a tourist staying in a local hotel.

Pakistan cricketer Haris Rauf has allegedly been caught in an altercation with a fan&nbsp;in a video that has gone viral on social media. An angry Rauf could be seen charging at the fan in public who he believed was 'Indian' while his wife attempted to stop him from losing his cool.&nbsp;

The Pakistan star was having a stroll after the Men-in-Green crashed out of the T20 World Cup in the group stage. In the viral video, Rauf could be heard referring to the fan as: "Indian hoga (he must be Indian)".

However, the man replied saying: "Pakistani hoon (I am from Pakistan)"

Rauf could also be heard saying, “How can you abuse my father,” (gaali baap ko de raha hai) before proceeding to say, “Indian hi hai yeh’ (He is surely Indian).”

After the video went viral, Rauf released a statement saying when it comes to his family, he will never 'hesitate' to take such action.&nbsp;

"I decided not to bring this on social media, But now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation. As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticise us," wrote Rauf.

"Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions," he added.&nbsp;

According to reports, Rauf is among the six Pakistani players who have opted to go to London for a holiday while the support staff and other players returned to Pakistan.

While players embark on a holiday, Pakistan cricket was rocked by the leaked statements of head coach Gary Kirsten, made at one of the soul-searching meetings to understand how the team crashed out of the tournament so early.&nbsp;

In the meeting, Kirsten slammed the culture within the senior men's cricket team saying there was no unity and that multiple factions were present.&nbsp;

"There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team. They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation,"&nbsp;Pakistani media reports quoted Kirsten as saying.&nbsp;

Pakistan lost against USA and arch-rivals India to bow out of the tournament from the group stage when it looked certain that the 2022 finalists would at least make it to the Super 8.&nbsp;&nbsp;

India strongly denounced the "unwarranted references" to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir made in a joint statement by China and Pakistan stating that both J&amp;K and Ladakh "will remain integral and inalienable parts" of the country.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement firmly made it clear that no country possessed the authority to comment on the status of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have noted unwarranted references to the Union Territory of Jammu &amp; Kashmir in the joint statement between China and Pakistan of 07 June 2024. We categorically reject such references. Our position on the issue is consistent and well-known to the concerned parties. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh have been, are and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India. No other country has the locus standi to comment on the same," MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in response to media queries on references to Jammu and Kashmir in the China-Pakistan Joint Statement.

MEA's remarks came following a meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China where both the leaders also discussed the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which passes through India's sovereign territory in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

The joint statement was issued after Sharif concluded his four-day visit to China where Pakistan briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Both sides underscore the importance of maintaining peace and stability in South Asia, the need for resolution of all outstanding disputes, and their opposition to any unilateral action," the joint statement read.

"The Pakistani side briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chinese side reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is left over from history, and should be properly and peacefully resolved in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements," it said.

In case USA loses both matches and Pakistan wins out, it will all boil down to the Net Run Rate. Currently, Pakistan have a negative run-rate (-0.150) while India (+1.455) and USA (+0.626) boast of healthy scoring rate. Hence, Pakistan will not only have to win but win heavy in the remaining matches.&nbsp;

Pakistan-backed terror outfit&nbsp;The Resistance Front (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the attack on Hindu pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT)'s front TRF released a message in which it warned of more such attacks on "tourists and non-locals" and said that the Reasi attack was just the "beginning of a renewed start".

At least 10 people lost their lives and 33 were wounded after the&nbsp;bus rolled down a gorge in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday (Jun 9).

The bus, en route from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra, was targeted by terrorists at around 6:10 pm when it reached the Pouni area.

<h2>At least two 'terrorists' involved in Reasi attack</h2>

J&amp;K police on Monday said that at least two 'terrorists' were involved in the attack.

"As per eyewitnesses, two (terrorists) were there. A combing operation is underway in the area. Five teams have been formed to search in the area," news agency ANI quoted Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma as saying.

"As soon as we came to know that terrorists attacked the vehicle, we rushed to the spot and started rescuing people travelling in the bus which was targeted by the terrorists. When we asked the injured people, they told us that one of the terrorists shot the bus driver in the head. The driver lost control and the vehicle fell into the ditch. They (terrorists) did not stop firing and kept firing for 15 to 20 minutes, because of which some passengers also sustained bullet injuries," he said.

<h2>PM Modi takes stock of situation</h2>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and directed Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to ensure all possible assistance to the families.

“The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and directed me to constantly monitor the situation and to ensure all possible assistance to the families,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said.

Sinha said that a joint operation to locate the terrorists was underway and the ones behind the attack would be punished soon.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on a bus in Reasi. My condolences to the family members of the martyred civilians. Our security forces &amp; JKP have launched a joint operation to hunt down the terrorists,” he said.

“All those behind this heinous act will be punished soon. Hon’ble PM has also directed that all the injured are provided the best possible medical care &amp; assistance,” he added.
