"He should not be hurried. Playing practice matches at the NCA is a good step as it will help tune his body to the demands of a match. But he should be made to play in some actual (domestic) matches before bringing him to top level cricket. The demands of international cricket are different and the body should be absolutely ready to take that amount of workload. Recovering from stress fracture is a delicate exercise and Bumrah should be allowed maximum recovery time," he told the news agency.

Srikkanth believes India will miss Rishabh Pant's services, who is unlikely to regain full fitness after a horrific car accident on December 30, 2022. "We don't know the real truth about Rishabh Pant. Because Rishabh Pant, if he was playing, I would have straightaway said that India are the real favourites for the World Cup. But I think obviously, Rishabh Pant's fitness is questionable. Nobody knows how fit will he be before the World Cup. I doubt it. Many people doubt if he will play the 2023 World Cup. Otherwise, the Rishabh Pant factor would have been very crucial," said Srikkanth while speaking to India Today.

However, Srikkanth was quick to add that Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have enough firepower to go the distance in the showpiece event in India. "So I believe guys like KL Rahul (who is recovering from a thigh injury) should be back in the middle order. KL Rahul has been fantastic. We have Rohit Sharma opening with Shubman Gill. Then we have Virat Kohli, who has been fantastic in this format and he has been in form. I believe India has got the capabilities of winning the World Cup," said Srikkanth.

At present, Indian players such as Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are recovering from their respective injuries. While Pant is very much out of contention, as India would certainly not risk playing him soon even if he recovers fully, Rahul, Iyer and Bumrah are expected to regain fitness just before the ODI WC. Dhoni's six, Kapil Dev's 175, still gives us goosebumps. There is nothing bigger than the World Cup, it is the Olympics of Cricket," he opined.

"Because representing India in the Olympics is a big thing, but if you win a medal there, it is widely celebrated in the country. No one might know the athlete before they go to the Olympics, but once they come back after winning, the whole country applauds them. So when we won the World Cup, the fans were on the roads celebrating," Sehwag added.

Sehwag was part of MS Dhoni-led India's historic triumph in the 2011 ODI WC. Back then, India defeated the likes of Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland and Sri Lanka -- in the final -- to lift the coveted title. Recently, Williamson opened up on his right knee injury and didn't rule himself out of the ODI WC.&nbsp;The New Zealand white-ball skipper&nbsp;ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in match one of IPL 2023 and underwent a surgery in New Zealand as he is now in the early stages of rehabilitation.&nbsp;

"I'm just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment," Williamson was quoted as saying by India Today.

"I'm making progress, but I'm not putting a timeline on anything. I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead it can probably become a little bit daunting.

"Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won't be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate," he added.

He will be desperate to regain fitness before the commencement of the 2023 ODI WC. In the draft schedule, the Black Caps are set to kick off the tournament by playing defending champions England in the first game in Ahmedabad on October 05.

He&nbsp;said, "During CoA's time, Viru was asked to apply for the head coach's job and then it went to Anil Kumble. It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature. But if we talk about stature, only he makes the cut from North Zone. It is not that BCCI can't pay a chairman of selectors at least Rs 4-5 crore. It can actually solve a lot of these conflict of interest issues which prevent prominent players from even thinking of coming into selection committee."

Further, the BCCI official stressed on the importance of having a significant name as the chief selector. The official added that the selector needs to take brave decisions and also stand his ground in front of the captain and coach.&nbsp;

"When Dilip bhai was chairman, he had to make a choice between S Badrinath and Virat Kohli. He saw a few India A games in Australia and he knew whom to back. Rest is history. He could stand his ground in front of Greg Chappell before that."

At present, former Indian opener Shiv Sundar Das, from the East Zone, is spearheading the selection committee. The senior men's team will be in action next month during their all-format tour of the West Indies, starting July 12. BCCI will be eager to appoint the head of the selection committee very soon with the ODI World Cup to be held later this year at home.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have reportedly rejected the request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to alter the venues for the high-profile clashes in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The PCB had asked to alter the venues for the World Cup clashes at the start of the week, but it has now been reported that ICC has turned down the request of the PCB and will have to stick to the original schedule which is yet to be made public.

According to a report from Cricbuzz, the ICC and the BCCI, as hosts of the World Cup in October-November, held a meeting on Tuesday, June 20, and have officially informed the PCB about their joint decision. Pakistan had requested to switch venues for their clash against Afghanistan and Australia. Chennai had been offered for Pakistan’s clash against Afghanistan while Bengaluru was to host the clash against Australia.

The ICC and BCCI have reportedly stated that there is no reason to alter the venues for the World Cup on current grounds. A venue can only be changed if there are security concerns or the ground is not fit to host international matches. While BCCI ICC reserves the right to change the venue at the request of the BCCI as they are the hosts, they did not find suitable reasons to make changes to the venue.

As things stand, India and Pakistan are set to meet on October 15 with World Cup starting after the conclusion of the Asia Cup in September. The reported dates for the start of the World Cup are October 5 and the final will take place on November 19. The schedule is yet to be made public and is expected to come out in early July.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has called the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to implement a hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup to allow a smooth passage of play between the two nations. The ‘so-called’ hybrid model will see the fixture between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup get a stage at neutral venues as both countries have opted not to travel to their opposing team’s home due to poor diplomatic relations.

"We can play all the matches in a neutral venue. The World Cup can be held without any problem, the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy can also be held,” Sethi said while in conversation with Sports Tak.

"If India are ready to play in Pakistan, there is no problem at all, then we will also go to India to play the World Cup. If that's not possible, then the hybrid model can be used as a compromise," he added.

<h2>Hybrid Model rejected</h2>

According to the latest reports, the hybrid model is set to be rejected by the BCCI and other member nations of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), giving a big blow to Pakistan as they prepare to host the Asia Cup. With India not travelling to Pakistan and the hybrid model rejected, the speculations of the Asia Cup moving outside the current host nation have intensified.

Pakistan could be given a major blow in the coming days as Sri Lanka could host the Asia Cup.

"No, we never said all or nothing. We are saying if India is not able to play in Pakistan, it's okay. Pakistan will play India in a neutral venue. The remaining teams can play in Pakistan. Because Pakistan has hosted all major countries in the recent past, teams like Australia, England, Bangladesh, and New Zealand have come and played in Pakistan. There are no security issues. We can play a couple of matches against India and the rest of the teams' matches can also be played in a neutral venue. We are ready for a compromise. All or nothing is not what we want," Najam Sethi said.

The Asia Cup is all set to be hosted by Pakistan in September but there is no official word on whether they have been dropped as hosts. On the flip side, the ODI World Cup plans are already on the cards as BCCI is reported to have proposed the Narendra Modi Stadium as the venue for the league stage encounter on October 15.

"Bangladesh was not discussed at all at the Board meeting and full backing for the event [World Cup] in India was given by the Board. We're focused on that," an ICC official told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Earlier, Wasim had said that Pakistan might end up playing their 2023 World Cup matches at a neutral venue instead of India.

“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their World Cup matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim told a local news channel.

The ODI World Cup will begin in India on October 5 with the final likely to take place on November 19. The final of the competition is likely to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In a recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting, one of the agendas discussed was an option for India’s potential neutral venue for the Asia Cup. This comes after India refused to visit their neighbours for the Asia Cup 2023, raising further friction between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

With India, all set to play Asia Cup at a neutral venue in UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka, or England, the Pakistan cricket team is also determined not to visit India for the ODI World Cup according to a report from Espncricinfo. If this is the case, Pakistan like India in the Asia Cup will use a neutral venue to play their World Cup matches.

The meeting in Dubai was in place to resolve the matter surrounding future scenarios as well with the 2025 Champions Trophy also a point of discussion. India are determined not to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in February 2025 and thus leaving an option of hosting both India and Pakistan matches at a neutral venue albeit of the competition.&nbsp;

ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan likely to play outside India; Bangladesh emerges as potential option - Reports

Sri Lanka have been docked a point in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League cycle for their slow over-rate in the first ODI against New Zealand at Auckland.

As per Article 16.12.2 of the Super League Playing Conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, Sri Lanka lost one point from their points tally. The tourists were also fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand on Saturday. This was in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences. Players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

The match referee, Jeff Crowe, imposed the sanction after Dasun Shanaka's team were ruled to be one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration.

The charges were levelled by the on-field umpires, Shaun Haig and Wayne Knights, third umpire Chris Brown and fourth umpire Cory Black.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition is keenly awaited. Every team is preparing hard for the marquee event which will be held in India entirely. As per a report, the 50-over marquee tournament is set to kick off in early October and will end by mid-November.&nbsp;

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, the 2023 ODI WC will commence on&nbsp;October 05 whereas the finale will be held on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. The same report also suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the host of the ten-team tournament, has finalised as many as a dozen venues for the showpiece event.

Apart from Ahmedabad, the shortlisted cities are&nbsp;Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai. It is to be noted that the tournament will be held in the round-robin stage, just like the 2019 edition, and will&nbsp;consist of&nbsp;48 matches including three knockouts across a 46-day period.
