After a lot of speculations, a total of nine games have been rescheduled, including the marquee face-off between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad. The high-voltage clash between the two Asian giants will now take place a day before, i.e., on October 14 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. This has been done to manage security amid a prominent Indian festival.&nbsp;The original date, October 15, coincides with the commencement of Navaratri, the Hindu festival celebrated in most Northern states.&nbsp;

Among others, Pakistan versus England's date has also been altered. The clash between the 1992 finalists was set to take place on November 12 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India will now lock horns with the Dutch line-up&nbsp;in what will be their last game in the round-robin stage, on November 12 coinciding with Diwali - one of the biggest Hindu festivals. There are, however, no changes to the semi-finals and final.

The 10-team 50-over showpiece event will kick off on October 05 between defending champions England and New Zealand. India will open their campaign versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 14. The semi-finals will be held on November 15 and 16, at Mumbai and Kolkata respectively, whereas the summit clash will be on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh isn't much optimistic of Team India's chances in the forthcoming home ODI World Cup, which kicks off on October 5 between England and New Zealand. The 2011 ODI World Cup winner raised his concerns over India's unprepared middle order and feels if the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are not fit in time, India might struggle in the marquee tournament, especially in high-pressure games.

Yuvraj said on the&nbsp;Cricket Basu YouTube&nbsp;channel, "I can be a patriot and say 'India will win because I am an Indian.' But I see a lot of concerns in the Indian middle order because of injuries. If those concerns are not resolved, we will struggle, especially in pressure games. Don't experiment in pressure games. The skill work to bat in the middle order is very different from that of an opener. Is there anybody there (in the team management) who is working around the guys that will be playing in the middle order? That's the question mark – the middle order is not ready, so someone will have to make them ready."

Yuvraj emphasised on the role of middle-order batters and added, "If your openers are out early, you need to build a partnership. (Middle order) batsmen are not simply flamboyant stroke-makers that occupy the crease and start hitting. He has to absorb pressure, leave a few balls, and create a partnership. It's a difficult job, somebody has to be experienced over there."

The 41-year-old former cricketer was one of the top performers for India in the CWC '11 edition, held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Under MS Dhoni, India won the final beating Sri Lanka by six wickets and Yuvraj ended as the Player-of-the-Tournament with 362 runs and 15 scalps overall.&nbsp;

He added, "Generally, Indian batters won't set up to play the pull shot. They will find the answer later as they will have all the other shots. Pull shot is something they will develop. Rohit recalled India's contrasting runs in 2003 and 2007 edition and said, "In 2003, India played really well up until the finals. You know, Sachin Tendulkar was amazing with the bat, scored so many runs. And then comes the 2007 World Cup where we didn't have a great time, and didn't even qualify after the league stage, so that was quite unfortunate."

Sharing his memories from the 2011 edition, Rohit opined, "2011 was a memorable one for all of us, I remember watching it from home, every single match, every single ball which was being bowled and that was being played. There were two kinds of emotions, one was obviously I was not a part of it, so I was a little disappointed. I decided I was not going to watch the World Cup, but again, the second memory I remember was that India was playing so well, the quarter-finals onwards."

"You know, the big quarter-final was against Australia. I know how the pressure is on all these players when playing these games. I can only imagine the pressure that each player must have gone through at that time, and then the semi-finals against Australia. It was a brilliant finish by Yuvi and Raina at the end," he added.

Rohit, who was part of India's 2007 T20 World Cup win, didn't make it to the 2011 ODI WC squad. Back then, India trusted Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan to bolster the middle and lower-order but Hitman failed to make the cut owing to his inconsistency.

Decided not to watch 2011 ODI World Cup: Indian captain Rohit Sharma shares bittersweet memories

Former Australia great Glenn McGrath has urged India’s Jasprit Bumrah to change his fitness regime as he plans to return to the international fold after a shoulder issue. Bumrah, out of action from the international circuit, will be leading India for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. According to McGrath, Bumrah can prolong his career if he changes his regime and gives up on one format.

<h2>McGrath’s wise words</h2>

"He is exceptional, and he is unique. The way he bowls, his run-up, and his delivery stride are very unique. But his bowling action and the way he goes about it does put a lot of stress on his body, so he needs to stay strong. If he does that, he can play for quite a few years for India," McGrath told Sportstar.

The former World Cup winner also pointed out that fixture congestion is a big issue for fast bowlers as they struggle to cope with the demands. He has urged Bumrah to give up on one format that will help him maintain his body shape as the ODI World Cup nears in two months.

The Indian team will have Bumrah back in the frame for the Asia Cup as he was named in the Indian squad for the T20I series against Ireland. He will wear the captain’s armband while in the long term will help India at the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. He was a big miss during the T20 World Cup last year and has not played international cricket for more than 10 months.

India are likely to have Bumrah in the frame for the World Cup as they will kick start their campaign against Australia on October 8. India’s top high-voltage clash against Pakistan has been rescheduled as the future will now take place on Saturday, October 14.

The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team - so whenever you'll play them, especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled. Pressure is always high, but maybe in our times, it was comparatively lesser because we used to play lots of cricket in my early days. But then again, in World Cup, we used to choke against India. Nonetheless, as I said, players these days are handling the pressure definitely better. These match-winners, which I mentioned earlier, they'll win us the game," Waqar told&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan.

The former Pakistan skipper added, "Pakistan team have handled pressure in a better way in the recent past. In my opinion, it doesn't matter wherever you play, irrespective of whether in India or Pakistan, if you have your process in check and are executing your skills and plans sufficiently well, so I don't think we have any issue. We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar himself, Shaheen - Fakhar can do wonders, then, of course, we have seen Imam playing great innings, so all-in-all, Pakistan has all the resources definitely, now it's just the matter of putting things together and handling pressure."

Pakistan have never beaten India in the ODI WC history. India lead the Men in Green 7-0 and it will be interesting to see if Pakistan manage to open their account this time around. To date, Babar-led side's participation in the upcoming World Cup is subject to government clearance. The ODI WC is set to commence on October 05 in Ahmedabad with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Netherlands on October 06 in Hyderabad.&nbsp;

Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win World Cup. The main reason why we consider ourselves favourites to win the World Cup is because of the IPL. ODI matches are very stressful. It will take at least two days for your body to recover. The first two matches in West Indies were played in a gap of 24 hours. Thus, there are more chances of you getting injured. Already we have so many players recovering at the NCA. Bumrah is back after a long hiatus. Prasidh Krishna is back too. So, we have so many injury problems. It seems like people are finding points to blame Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma just for the sake of it."

The 36-year-old Test specialist added,&nbsp;"They are trying different players now because they know what they went through during the last T20 World Cup. We didn’t have Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah, and we didn’t have many fast bowlers. That’s why we are trying different options before the ODI World Cup."

As per reports, Pakistan's face-off versus India, on October 15 in Ahmedabad, and its clash versus Sri Lanka will be the two games whose dates are&nbsp;to be changed.

Sources told The Dawn, on Tuesday (August 01), that Pakistan's much-awaited face-off versus arch-rivals Rohit Sharma-led India will be preponed by a day. The match is set to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad but the date will undergo a&nbsp;change, i.e. from October 15 to October 14. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full itinerary last month.&nbsp;However, it is believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently requested some tweaks.&nbsp;

The Indo-Pak tie is likely to take place on October 14 as the match will clash with a religious&nbsp;festival&nbsp;if held on its original date. Thus, security arrangements can be a huge concern. Similarly, Pakistan's game versus 1996 winners Sri Lanka will also take place on October 10, and not on October 12

The 11-member working group will meet&nbsp;on Thursday (August 03) and a final decision is&nbsp;likely on the same day.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the BCCI and the ICC are working on rescheduling the India vs Pakistan contest in Ahmedabad. The contest could face a lack of security measures as it coincides with the Hindu festival of Navratri. The BCCI wants to avoid any potential security&nbsp;risk and could soon announce a new date for the fixture with other possible changes to the tournament schedule.

Earlier, Pakistan’s demands of switching the venue for the clashes against Australia and Afghanistan were turned down by the BCCI and the ICC. They will start their World Cup campaign against Qualifiers Netherlands on October 6 and then Sri Lanka before they face India.

The BCCI also provided an update on Rishabh Pant as he too has made significant progress with his rehabilitation.

<h2>Bumrah, Rahul fit for Asia Cup?</h2>

“Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” read a release from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Bumrah has been out of the India side since September 2022 and has been struggling with a shoulder injury. He missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season and was not part of the Indian team that reached the semifinal of the T20 World Cup in 2022. Bumrah’s absence has been a major miss for India and his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

Shreyas Iyer has also made steady progress that could see him join the Indian team for the Asia Cup. Iyer too missed the IPL 2023 season and was a major miss for Kolkata Knight Riders. KL Rahul, however, played at the initial stage of the IPL but was not available for the playoffs having met with an injury against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“Rishabh Pant has made significant progress in his rehabilitation and has commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets. He is currently following a fitness programme designed for him which includes strength, flexibility and running,” the statement further added.

India will announce their Asia Cup squad in the coming days while the squad for the ODI World Cup will be out at the end of August. The deadline to announce the ODI World Cup squad is 31 August.

Over the years, a lot of questions have been raised about the plethora of bilateral ODI series being played across the globe. As not many of them draw much attention, the MCC feels there is a need to bring down the number of bilateral ODIs as it&nbsp;would&nbsp;mainly help in providing a much-needed&nbsp;space in the international cricketing calendar. The hectic international schedule has been the talk of the town for quite some time.

With Tests being prioritised by many current cricketers, along with the addition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the ever-increasing demand for T20Is, the onus has fallen on the ODI format; with several questioning its existence. In the recent past, many have questioned what exactly the format adds to an already-packed international calendar.

In this regard, the 13-member committee, led by former England captain Mike Gatting, is hopeful that "scarcity of ODI cricket would increase the quality&nbsp;achieved by removing bilateral ODIs, other than in the one year preceding each World Cup. This would, as a consequence, also create much-needed space in the global cricketing calendar."

<h2>'Test match financial audit'</h2>

Moreover, the MCC also raised concerns&nbsp;over the survival of Tests in nations outside the Big Three -- India, Australia and England. "The committee voiced particular concern for the survival of Test cricket in nations outside of India, Australia and England, with the associated impact brought about by a narrowing competition pool," mentioned the MCC release.

The committee has recommended that the ICC undertake a "Test match financial audit," which would, in turn, enable it to "identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme," after which "this need could be&nbsp;subsequently addressed via a separate Test match fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

To address this lack of insight, it proposed a recommendation for the ICC to undertake a Test match financial audit to provide a clearer picture. This audit of operational costs versus commercial return would help the ICC identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme. This need could be subsequently addressed via a separate Test fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

On promoting women's cricket, the MCC release read, "It believes that the best way to support this objective is to establish a substantial and ring-fenced ICC Strategic Fund that can be allocated on a need-to-know basis to full member and associate nations that, amongst other key initiatives, fully commit to their women's pathway and national team."

The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. An&nbsp;upcoming ICC meeting is set to take place in Durban, South Africa and the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is keen to push for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green to play their World Cup games at neutral venues. It is mainly because India didn't agree to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup&nbsp;to be held in August-September.

“Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. I want our World Cup matches at neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI.&nbsp;

Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The&nbsp;final decision&nbsp;will be taken by their&nbsp;government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

Thus, this has not been well received by the PCB, whereas their demands with regard to the venue changes for the ODI World Cup have&nbsp;also not been entertained.

Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are&nbsp;set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues&nbsp;in India.

If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI. Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The final decision will be taken by their government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka. Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues in India. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level executive committee to decide on the national team’s participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The high-level committee is headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto and will soon submit a report to the PM on whether the situation is safe for the national team to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

<h2>Who is part of the committee?</h2>

As things stand, the committee headed by Bilawal Bhutto consists of Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and former diplomat Tariq Fatmi. They will review the situation in the coming days as a high-level security delegation will travel to India to inspect the venues and other key elements during the World Cup. Once the report is finalised, it will be submitted to the PM, who also acts as the patron-in-chief of the PCB.

On the flip side, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finalised the programme for the World Cup after the schedule was made public on Tuesday, June 27. None of Pakistan’s demands were met when the schedule was released as the board demanded not to play Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia in Bangalore.

As things stand, Pakistan is yet to finalise its participation in the tournament as they have conveyed that no stand will be taken by the board until the government gives its clearance.

<h2>PCB’s turmoil</h2>

On the other hand, the PCB has been going through the turmoil of events with the elections to get the next chairman of the board yet again postponed indefinitely. Currently, a new management committee has been formed by the order of the PM and has been headed by Zaka Ashraf, the likely next chairman of the PCB.

Ashraf will travel to Durban in the coming hours to participate in an ICC board meeting, where he is likely to open on Pakistan’s stand on whether to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

According to the current schedule, the ODI World Cup will start on October 5 with the opening clash between England and New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign against one of the qualifier teams on October 6 with them playing India on Sunday, October 15.

It was India's first-ever ODI series triumph in the country. Thus, Anjum asked Jhulan whether&nbsp;there could have been a better script&nbsp;as she ended&nbsp;with a victory at the same venue and against the same opponent who defeated India in the CWC'17 final.&nbsp;

Afridi, 23, is one of the most important players in Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. In the recent past, the speedster has been injured -- since the 2022 T20 World Cup final -- but is now fully fit and put on a splendid show in the Vitality Blast. He is now gearing up for Pakistan's two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka&nbsp;in the island nation, which starts on July 16. Ahead of the series opener, Shaheen revealed that he is fully fit.

In addition, India and Pakistan played a humdinger in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where Virat Kohli's masterclass led to Men in Blue's thrilling win. Thus, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now reacted to Ganguly's remark.&nbsp;

All the 90s kids heard innumerable tales of West Indies' envious bowling attack, who left the cricketing world in awe by mastering the Bodyline Bowling, as their predecessor generation took pride in sheding light on the Caribbean dominance. The late 70s saw West Indies become a formidable force that won the ODI World Cup twice in a row, under Clive Lloyd. A large part of their success was due to Sir Vivian Richards' mavericks. The ball left the bat in a jiffy from Richards' willow with him nonchalantly chewing gums and making a mockery of several bowling attacks.&nbsp;

In the following years, West Indies gave plenty to the world of cricket by introducing the likes of Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, etc. Later, the Kieron Pollards, Sunil Narines, Dwayne Bravos and more took the mantle forward as the Windies mastered T20Is, the most unpredictable format.

Some of West Indies' tactics made little sense to many. For example, Hope's decision to resort to Jason Holder in the Super Over versus Netherlands made heads turn. Holder's match figures were a decent 10-0-59-0. However, he has often been taken to the cleaners in the death overs. As a result, Dutchman&nbsp;Logan van Beek slammed him for 30 runs as the two-time winners lost the game.

Most importantly, the preparations in the run-up to the qualifiers, in Zimbabwe, were never up to the mark.&nbsp;As many as six out of&nbsp;the 15 that travelled to Zimbabwe - Kyle Mayers, Holder, Powell, Alzarri Joseph, Shepherd and Akeal Hosein - were not part of the Windies' series versus hosts UAE ahead of the qualifiers. Thus, it also meant that they interacted with their newly-appointed coach Sammy for the first time during the ICC tournament.&nbsp;

Moreover, West Indies' last bilateral ODI series win versus the current top seven teams -- notably India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England -- came way back in 2014. Their inability to be calculative with the bat, lack of match-winning spinners and dwindling fielding standards have forced them to fall as low as they have. Thus, the writing was on the wall for a long time. 2023 simply became the year where they made it official.&nbsp;

It is to be noted that West Indies have failed to make any mark in ICC events since their T20 World Cup 2016 triumph in India. In 2017, they could not participate in the Champions Trophy in England and Wales. In 2019, they won only two out of nine games in the ODI World Cup. They have failed miserably in the two cycles of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) in 2019-21 and 2021-23 respectively. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, they bowed out of the Super 12 round with a sole win (over Bangladesh). In the following edition, in 2022, Nicholas Pooran &amp; Co. were out of the qualifiers and the script remained the same in this year's ODI WC qualifiers.
