Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma for playing a rash shot during match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Chennai Super Kings. Rohit got out for a duck with Mumbai already two down while trying to play a scoop shot.

“It just doesn’t seem as if he is in the game. I may be completely wrong, but the shot he played wasn’t a captain’s shot. A captain repairs the innings knowing that the team is in trouble, plays a decent knock and gets the team to a good total. Two wickets gone for not too many in the power-play and you are not in form," told Gavaskar to Star Sports.

Notably, Rohit had recorded a duck in the previous game as well, and with his latest score of zero against Chennai, he became the player with the most ducks in the history of IPL, totalling 16 ducks.

“If you are in form, I still understand the scoop shot, but it’s a huge shot when you have got two ducks in the previous game. So, you want to play and get yourself off the mark, get some circulation in the legs, running quick ones and twos and then go for the big ones. Maybe, he is preoccupied and maybe a little break would do him good. But it’s for him and the MI team management to take a call,” added Gavaskar.

The former India skipper also opined that Rohit should take a break from IPL for some matches and come back refreshed for the World Test Championship Final to be played against Australia in England from June 7, 2023.

"I would say that Rohit should maybe take a break for the time being, and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship Final. He can come back again for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a breather himself," Gavaskar said after CSK's six-wicket win over Mumbai at Chepauk.

Recently, Ravi Shastri -- India's former head coach -- picked his winner of IPL 2023. He feels Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat will be able to defend their title.

"Looking at the current form and team standings, I believe that Gujarat will win the trophy. There is consistency and flexibility in this team and there are seven-eight players who are performing consistently. Not CSK, RCB or MI! Former India coach Ravi Shastri backs THIS team to lift IPL 2023 trophy

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) occupy the top spot in the IPL 2023 points table at present. The defending champions lost their previous match, to bottom-ranked Delhi Capitals (DC), but remain in a comfortable position with six wins from nine games (12 points). Ahead of their marquee clash with Rajasthan Royals (RR), on Friday evening (May 05),&nbsp;former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock shared some words of advice for Hardik.

Hardik has not had a great run with the bat this season. He has scored&nbsp;213 runs at a strike&nbsp;rate of&nbsp;117.03 with two fifties. Even in GT's five-run loss to DC, Hardik scored a 53-ball 59 but failed to accelerate when needed during the 131-run chase. Pollock backed Hardik to bat at No. 3, something which he is doing for the past few games, but feels he needs to change gears when needed and run hard between wickets.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former pacer said, "I don't think in his [Hardik Pandya's] role of the Gujarat Titans he needs to go down. If he was at Mumbai, he would probably still do it because of the firepower they have. I saw some good performances from him last year."

Pollock further asserted, "I think he maybe just needs to change gears at different times. I don't have an issue with him coming up higher. He is a class player and has got the ability to strike it really well."

"I know it is with his injuries that he has had. But if you have look back at the innings he played the other night, there's a lot to be said for people who charge between the wickets and put fielders under pressure. There were a lot of times when he would just hit the sweeper and just jog through," he added.

IPL 2023: 'Hardik Pandya is a class player but...' - Former SA captain suggests GT skipper ahead of RR tie

Mumbai Indians might have returned to winning matches in IPL 2023, but concerns around Rohit Sharma’s form grow with each passing game. Though the MI captain has led a turnaround for his side following a shallow start to this season, his series of single-digit scores are not helping the cause at the of the order.&nbsp;

While chasing 215 against Punjab Kings in an away clash on Wednesday, Rohit departed on a three-ball duck. In his previous three outings, he got out on 2,3 and 0, respectively.&nbsp;

Though Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav compensated with incredible power hitting that helped MI chase down another 200-plus run-chase this season, the former Aussie all-rounder Tom Moody feels there is not much to look into Rohit’s form as he brings more to the table than just runs.

ALSO READ:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2023-windies-johnson-charles-replaces-litton-das-in-kkr-squad-for-remainder-of-season-588729">IPL 2023: Windies Johnson Charles replaces Litton Das in KKR squad for remainder of season</a>

Speaking after the match, Moody said ahead of the Punjab game, even Ishan Kishan was under the radar for not scoring, and now since he has, he ticked that box, and it’s about time before Rohit will get back to scoring heaps of runs.&nbsp;

"It is a concern, but I suppose from Mumbai Indians' point of view, Ishan Kishan, that was another concern leading into this game (PBKS vs MI). Both openers have been short of runs. That’s ticked off, he looks like he is up and running and flying," Moody told the broadcaster, as quoted by India Today.

Backing the veteran batter to come good in games to come, Moody said with players like Rohit, you have to be patient because they offer much more for the side than just runs. Citing the example of the great MS Dhoni, Tom said while MS is also not among runs this season, having faced relatively few balls – the fact that he is there in the batting order boosts CSK's confidence, and when he comes to bat, he leaves his impact on just those 2-3 balls. The same is the case with Rohit.

"The next one is Rohit Sharma. When you have batting depth of quality, that MI have, you can be patient with someone like Rohit Sharma because of the value that he brings to the table as captain. You look at the value that MS Dhoni has had for CSK. He has only had a couple of impacts with the bat , and that’s purely because he is sitting back in the batting order.

"There is more to Rohit Sharma than the batsman. It’s the leader, it’s the calm and successful mind. He is a multiple championship-winning captain," Moody added.

Meanwhile, against PBKS, MI conceded 215 runs, and during the chase, they were left with a mountain to climb after losing Rohit and Cameron Green inside the Powerplay. However, a 116-run stand for the third wicket between Ishan (75) and Surya (66), ensured MI stay alive in the chase.

The final touches were then given by the lower batters Tilak Verma and Tim David as Mumbai chased down the target with six wickets in hand.&nbsp;

ALSO READ: IPL 2023: Windies Johnson Charles replaces Litton Das in KKR squad for remainder of season Speaking after the match, Moody said ahead of the Punjab game, even Ishan Kishan was under the radar for not scoring, and now since he has, he ticked that box, and it’s about time before Rohit will get back to scoring heaps of runs. The final touches were then given by the lower batters Tilak Verma and Tim David as Mumbai chased down the target with six wickets in hand.

IPL 2023: Tom Moody backs MI captain Rohit Sharma amid poor form concern, says he brings a lot to table

Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings batsman Robin Uthappa thinks that Mumbai Indians really need to figure out their bowling. The statement comes after Mumbai chased down a mammoth 213 against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League's (IPL) 1000th game.

“This game will make it feel like all’s well with the Mumbai Indians, but it really isn’t. They really need to figure out their bowling and how they finish overs because they’re doing fairly decent until the 15th over, especially in the last three games, they were on course to defend 170, and 180, and then in the last five overs something happens and they kind of lose the plot," said Uthappa while speaking on JioCinema - official digital broadcaster of IPL.

"Then they give 60, 70, 80, 90 runs in the last five overs, which is diabolical for them," added Uthappa. Notably, Mumbai - the five-time IPL champions, currently are at the seventh spot on the points table with eight points in as many matches.

Uthappa's comments have an element of truth as Mumbai have conceded 200+ runs three times in eight matches and those three instances have come in their last three games. Mumbai's best bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not available for the season due to a back injury and their other superstar, Jofra Archer, hasn't hit the sweet spot yet.

The five-time champions, although, have the express abilities of Riley Meredith, but the pace has gone off plenty in the current IPL season. As for the spin department, veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has held the fort down on his own with others like Hrithik Shokeen playing second fiddle to him without much impact.

With the season just past its halfway stage, Mumbai must figure out their bowling soon if they want to stay alive, else the tough competition in the middle, which already has five teams on the same number of points, would be too much for them to break through.

IPL 2023: Ex-CSK batter Robin Uthappa laments Mumbai's bowling

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is very impressed with Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal after the latter hit a magnificent century in Indian Premier League's (IPL) 1000th game on Sunday, April 30.

“I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, he’s taken it to the next level. I asked him ‘where did you get the power from’. He said he’s been going to the gym, that’s good for him, India and RR,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation after MI beat RR.

Jaiswal, who scored 124 off just 62 balls, was adjudged 'Player of the Match' despite Rajasthan losing the game by six wickets. During his innings, Jaiswal hit 16 fours and eight sixes as the Royals scored a mammoth 212/7 in their 20 overs.

Speaking on his innings after the match, Jaiswal said he wants to focus on the process and work hard. “When I completed my century, I didn’t know whether the ball went to the boundary. So I thanked God for everything. That was the highlight. Days like this definitely can happen. I want to focus on the process and work hard, and have the belief. I have been positive and am maintaining a good, fit lifestyle which is helping. The straight drive is my straight drive,” said the left-handed batsman.

Chasing 213, Mumbai lost skipper Rohit early but Cam Green and Ishan Kishan added 62 runs for the second wicket at a brisk pace. &nbsp;Suryakumar Yadav then scored a belligerent 55 off 29 balls after Green and Kishan fell in short span. Royals pulled things back after Yadav's wicket but Tim David joined forces with Tilak Varma as the duo added 62 runs on 23 balls to take Mumbai home.

Varma remained not out on 29 off 21, holding one end, while David exploded for unbeaten 45 off 14 balls including three consecutive sixes on first three balls of the last over by Jason Holder as Mumbai won in 19.3 overs.

IPL 2023: MI skipper Rohit impressed with RR's Yashasvi Jaiswal, says 'he's taken game to next level'

On Sunday (April 30), match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition saw five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) edge past Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) by six wickets in pursuit of a mammoth 213-run target. This became the first instance when&nbsp;a 200-plus total was chased&nbsp;at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in tournament history.&nbsp;

NUMBERS GAME

Most-successful IPL run-chases at Wankhede
213 - MI vs RR, April 30, 2023
198 - MI vs Punjab Kings (PBKS),&nbsp;2019
196 - Gujarat Titans (GT)&nbsp;vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH),&nbsp;2022
196 - Delhi Capitals (DC) vs PBKS, 2021

Highest successful run-chases in&nbsp;IPL history
224 - RR vs PBKS, Sharjah, 2020
219 - MI vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi, 2021
215 - RR vs Deccan Chargers (DC), Hyderabad, 2008
213 - MI vs RR, Mumbai WS, today
213 - Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB),&nbsp;Bengaluru, 2023

Speaking about IPL's rich history, the high-voltage MI-RR clash was a landmark fixture as&nbsp;it was the tournament's 1,000th match. Since the mega event's inception in 2008, it has grown&nbsp;by leaps and bounds. It has increased the game's overall popularity, flushed more revenue&nbsp;into the sport, and led to many cricketers competing with superstar international stars.

In addition, IPL led to the advent of many franchise leagues&nbsp;across the globe (such as the Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, etc). The pace of the game has increased manifold. Thus, cricket&nbsp;has never been the same since IPL's commencement.

Talking about the 1,000th IPL encounter,&nbsp;last year's runners-up RR opted to bat first and posted 212-7 riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden ton (124). In reply, MI rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 55 (29) and rapid knocks from Tilak Verma and Tim David to take their side to a much-needed win.

At the start of the tournament, it was&nbsp;advertised that MI's upcoming away game versus arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) -- on May 06 (Saturday) in Chennai -- would count as IPL's 1,000th clash. Here's the twist:

EXPLAINED: Not CSK vs MI! Why MI vs RR was counted as&nbsp;IPL'S 1000th game:&nbsp;

Till IPL&nbsp;2022, a total of 951 matches were held in the cash-rich league. This meant that match number 49 of the&nbsp;current season would be adjudged as the 1,000th game. However, in between these 951 fixtures, as many as seven matches were played which were called off with no result.&nbsp;

Notably, not even a single ball was bowled in these seven&nbsp;fixtures, but all of them were declared official matches as per cricketing rules. Thus, a total of 958 official games were held till the end of the 2022 edition,&nbsp;making this year's 42nd match IPL's 1,000th encounter.

Speaking after MI's historic win in IPL's landmark game, captain Rohit Sharma (who was also celebrating his 36th birthday and ten years as Mumbai's captain on Sunday evening), said, "Very pleasing to see how we chased this. Last game here also we came close to a similar target. We have the ability but need to back ourselves."

On David being regarded as the next Kieron Pollard, Rohit added, "Big shoes to fill, Polly for so many years won us so many championships. But Tim has so much ability and power. In the back end, having that power keeps the bowler thinking."

David, who struck a magnificent 14-ball 45* and ended the game with three straight sixes in the final over, stated, "We needed a result. It is an amazing feeling, there's no better feeling than playing at the Wankhede,&nbsp;for our confidence. We have not played our best cricket in the last few games, so this feels good. It felt everyone (bowler) had to be targeted, in good batting conditions, and personally, I wanted to do something like this for a while."

Meanwhile, a dejected Samson said, "It was kind of getting wet. It was not too wet and we were taking our time to wipe the ball. We had the experience of bowling in these conditions. We will keep focusing on the process. We will keep the focus on the controllable. We will keep fighting hard."

On Jaiswal's superb knock, Samson opined, "I was expecting something special from Jaiswal. He scored 70-odd in the last game, we always thought it (hundred) is around the corner."

TRAFFIC JAM IN THE POINTS TABLE

Talking about the IPL 2023 points table, after match 42, there is&nbsp;a lot of chaos with the competition heating up for the playoffs.&nbsp;Last year's champions, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT), occupy the first spot with 12 points from eight games. RR and CSK, who also failed to defend 201 versus PBKS on Sunday during the afternoon game, are in the third and fourth spots respectively.

KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are right behind table-toppers GT in the second position. LSG, RR, and CSK have ten points each.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) are in the fifth position, also with ten points, whereas Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)&nbsp; and MI are in the&nbsp;sixth and seventh spots respectively (eight points each). Lastly, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and&nbsp;Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have six points each, followed by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last spot with four points.

Mumbai Indians won a thrilling contest against the Rajasthan Royals but the win didn't come without the hiccups. On the fourth ball of the 16th over in MI's chase, Royals' Sandeep Sharma caught one of the best catches ever in the IPL history to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai, eventually, won the match but the catch allowed Rajasthan to pull things back for bit.

Batting at 55 on just 28 balls, Suryakumar Yadav played played a slower bouncer from Trent Boult over his shoulder towards fine-leg area. Bowling the last with Mumbai needing 17 runs to win, Jason Holder delivered three juicy full-toss balls to Tim David, who smashed all of them out of park to take his side home with six wickets and three balls left, hunting down a mammoth target of 213 runs. Such was the impact of Jaiswal's show that the next best score from a Royals batter was 18 runs by Jaiswal's opening partner Jos Buttler. Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma was also left impressed by the southpaw and said that post match presentation, “I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, he’s taken it to the next level. IPL 2023: RR's Sandeep Sharma takes 'catch of IPL history' to dismiss MI's Suryakumar Yadav - WATCH

MI vs RR, 1000th IPL game: Listing milestone matches in cash-rich league

April 24, 2023 was a special day for India but it was doubly special for Mumbai Indians. The day not just marked the great Sachin Tendulkar turning 50, it also marked the 10-year anniversary of Rohit Sharma captaining Mumbai Indians for the first time ever.

As the Mumbai Indians return to the Wankhede Stadium to take on Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, the team and coaching staff spoke about captain Hitman Rohit Sharma’s decade at the helm.

Kieron Pollard, the team’s batting coach and one of the players in the MI setup, when Rohit took over captaincy in the middle of the season in 2013, said, “He’s grown as a leader. I mean he’s grown into leadership. Obviously, it was entrusted onto him in 2013 in the middle of a season. He was still pretty young at that point in time.”

Pollard said that in spite of being young when he first took charge, Rohit was a quick learner and always showed leadership potential. “That shows you that a person has a great acumen of what he can accomplish and we are lucky to have him as a leader. He has a wealth of experience, so it’s a matter of tapping into that and continuing to see him grow.”

Terming Rohit’s career so far as “incredible”, bowling coach Shane Bond emphasised the impact that Rohit has had as a personality. “He’s such a big personality around our group, on and off the field and particularly in leading this team to where we are now, he has done a brilliant job.”

Suryakumar Yadav, said that Rohit’s numbers as captain speak for themselves and his journey with MI has been an incredible story. “Here we are in his 10th year as captain. So obviously 10 years as captain, that too for a franchise like Mumbai Indians. I think it is a very, very big achievement. It’s a story in itself. He’s brought so much glory for the franchise, winning five trophies under his captaincy.”

Ishan Kishan highlighted Rohit’s contribution to the team as captain, “Winning the Championship five times as a Captain is a great achievement. I know how he is as a captain, he’s done so much for the team.”

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green credited Rohit as a key factor in the team’s legacy, saying, “The success that Mumbai have had, a lot of that is to do with him.”

Rohit’s way of dealing with youngsters and the way he conducts himself in a team environment make him a great leader, feels fielding coach James Pamment. “A great strength of his is that he encourages the young Indian players very well. Captains just know how to pull the strings and that’s one of the things Rohit has done extremely well from being a very young captain when he first won the championship to maturing in the job. In a big competition like this, he’s got a nice manner about him,” Pamment said.

'He’s grown as a leader': Kieron Pollard on 10 years of captain Rohit Sharma

In the latest news coming from the Mumbai Indians camp, England T20 specialist bowler Chris Jordan has signed for them for the remainder of the season. As per the reports, the 34-year-old is roped in as a replacement, of whom that is uncertain right now.

In the absence of their premier ace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who is out due to a back injury, Mumbai visibly struggled to find his replacement; and while they have international pacers in Riley Meredith, who replaced Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff, the former five-time champions have failed to get the best out of them.

Ahead of the 1000th IPL game on Sunday between Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals, England’s Jofra Archer, who recently returned from Belgium after undergoing a minor treatment on his troubling elbow, is expected to play.&nbsp;

The right-arm seamer Jordan had previously played in this cash-rich league, having represented several teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, SunRisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. In 28 IPL innings, Jordan has picked 27 wickets at an average of 30,85 and an economy of 9.32.&nbsp;

The English bowler last played for MS Dhoni’s CSK the previous season, picking two wickets in four outings.&nbsp;

Earlier, during IPL 2022 auction, Jordan went unsold at a base price of INR 2 crores.

Meanwhile, his latest exploits in the franchise-based T20 tournament put weight behind his selection as playing for Gulf Giants at the ILT20 tournament in February this year, Jordan ended up being the highest wicket-taker, with 20 scalps at an impressive average of 13.80.

He also represented England in the three-match T20Is against Bangladesh ahead of IPL 2023.

Talking about Mumbai Indians, the Rohit Sharma-led side has struggled to find the rhythm this season. While many will point fingers at the underperforming bowling line-up, the batters haven’t stood up either. As things stand, Mumbai Indians are ninth on the points table with three wins in seven matches.

IPL 2023: T20 specialist Chris Jordan joins Mumbai Indians for remainder of season

When Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 30 in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the contest will be doubly special for captain Rohit Sharma. The Hitman will be celebrating his birthday on Sunday and also a decade at the helm of Mumbai Indians. Ahead of the clash with Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher spoke about how he was always a fan of Rohit Sharma.

“He has been great. I used to always enjoy watching Rohit bat, sometimes from behind the stumps as well. I have played a bit of cricket with him and watched him grow into a quality cricketer but also a good leader. It’s going to be nice for him. It’s his birthday as well, so a big moment for him,” Boucher said.

Boucher said that the team was happy with their captain’s form. With a powerful and deep batting lineup, Rohit’s role has been to go hard in the Powerplay, something that he has done well so far.

“I think Rohit is in good form. He has been hitting the ball really well in the nets. Just the other day, he got some good runs for us. He’s playing a nice and aggressive brand of cricket. He’s fulfilled the role that we have needed him to fulfill in this season so far. If Rohit plays aggressively like he has, he can be devastating for any opposition,” Boucher said.

Boucher added that pacer Jofra Archer was fit and available for selection. He also backed Archer to bowl well at the death, an area that has sometimes been a concern for the five-time champions.

“We all know what Jofra can do. He has been a fantastic bowler for many years now. He adds a different dimension to our attack, obviously some good pace. He can bowl with the new ball and at the death as well. It has been an area (death bowling) where we have struggled a bit, so he can hopefully come in and fulfill that role for us by bowling in those situations,” Boucher said.

IPL 2023: Mark Boucher praises Rohit on birthday eve, says 'watched him grow into a quality cricketer'

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has tagged Mumbai Indians bowler Arjun Tendulkar as an extra amid the debate that Mumbai skipper Rohit could have given him one more over against Gujarat Titans.

The statement came during the discussion when he was asked if Arjun could have bowled one more over at the top as he had two left in his quota. The discussion popped up after Cam Green went for 22 in his second and GT's 18th over of the inning.

"You can't guarantee that the third over will be met. Even the very best bowlers, the most experienced bowlers… when you get greedy and think, 'let's just try and get that extra over', more often than not, they get lined up,” Moody told ESPNCricinfo.

Notably, Arjun had given away just nine runs in his two overs at the top and took the wicket of GT opener Wriddhiman Saha as well.

“Tendulkar did his job. Again, he's a recipient of the sub. He's the extra bowler. And the extra bowler doesn't have to complete four (overs). He has contributed well at the top, took a wicket and gave 9 runs. You can't argue when the cows come home, ‘oh he should’ve bowled the death over instead of Green!'. Green's the international bowler, and he has bowled poorly,” Moody added further.

In the match, Mumbai won the toss and elected to field first. Tendulkar proved Rohit's decision right as he took Saha's wicket in the third over of GT's innings. Titans, playing at home, kept scoring at a decent run-rate with Shubman Gill scoring 56 off 34. It was, however, Abhinav Manohar and David Miller towards the end who had a go at MI's bowling line-up.

Manohar scored 21-ball 42 while Miller hit 22-ball 46 as GT came close to 200. Rahul Tewatia then played a blinding cameo of 20 off 5, hitting three sixes as Gujarat posted 207/6 in 20 overs.

Mumbai were never in hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular interval and eventually lost the match by 55 runs.

IPL 2023: 'He's the extra bowler': Tom Moody's BIG remark on MI's Arjun Tendulkar

Match 35 of the IPL 2023 edition saw the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) lose to the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (April 25). Opting to bowl first, MI conceded 207 for 6 as Gujarat posted their highest total in the tournament. In reply, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. only managed 152 for 9 to lose by a whopping 55-run margin.

Rohit has had an ordinary run in IPL 2023. He has managed scores of&nbsp;1, 21, 65, 20, 28, 44 and 2 at an average of&nbsp;25.86. After MI's loss versus GT, their second in a row and fourth of the season, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar has asked Rohit to opt for a short break and keep himself fresh for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia, to be held at The Oval, London&nbsp;in early June.

"Rohit Sharma should take a break and keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship. Come back again for the last few matches, but right now take a breather himself. He is looking slightly preoccupied, maybe he is thinking about the WTC. I think he needs a little bit of a break," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

It is highly unlikely that Rohit will take a break with MI currently languishing at the seventh spot in the points table. He might sit out for a few games if Mumbai confirms&nbsp;a slot in the last four. Or, if they fall flat in the upcoming games and are totally out of the playoffs race, then Rohit might be benched to keep himself fit&nbsp;for the WTC finale.

On Tuesday (April 25), the BCCI announced a 15-member squad for India's WTC summit clash versus Australia.&nbsp;

Match 35 of the IPL 2023 edition, on Tuesday (April 25), saw the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) take on the five-time winners Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. rode on Shubman Gill's 56, blistering knocks from David Miller, Abhinav Manohar and Rahul Tewatia to post their highest total, 207 for 6, and beat MI by 55&nbsp;runs.

Being asked to bat first, the IPL 2022 winners were off to a slow start and lost Wriddhiman Saha early. Gill looked in his elements with some sublime hits and upped the ante -- taking on Cameron Green -- but lost skipper Hardik for 13 (13). Against the run of play, Gill departed for a 34-ball 56. Piyush Chawla was impressive once again as he applied the brakes on GT's scoring rate and dismissed Hardik and Vijay Shankar.

However, Miller (22-ball 46) and Manohar (21-ball 42) attacked Riley Meredith, Chawla and Green before Tewatia (5-ball 20*) joined in as GT managed 77 runs off the last five overs. In pursuit of 208, MI lost captain Rohit for cheap (2). Ishan Kishan struggled against the early movement and overall disciplined bowling from Shami-Hardik whereas Green fell for a 26-ball 33.

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee is all praise for Mumbai Indians bowler Arjun Tendulkar and says that once the young bowler gets accustomed to bowl in front of big crowd and big light, he'll definitely be able to bowl at 140km/h.

Lee, in a response to media outlet Hindustan Times, also said that Arjun has got all the talent and all the right attributes to become successful.

"People criticise almost everything. If you look at Sandeep Sharma, he has been bowling at 120 kph. Arjun is at least bowling way faster than that. He is only 23 years of age and he has got his whole career ahead of him. My advice will be don't listen to critics. Like his dad had to go through like he misses out and gets a low score...you got to back yourself. He has got some wonderful skills.

"He can bowl at 140 kph so as soon as he gets comfortable bowling in the team environment, in front of the big lights and big crowd, his pace will increase. I see no issue with his pace. I know how fast he can bowl. He has got all the talent and all the right attributes. So my advice would be to keep doing what you have been doing and don't listen to those people who are trying to have a go at him because remember most people who will criticise on social media have never bowled a ball in their life. They are keyboard warriors," said Lee.

Notably, Arjun had gone for 31 runs in one over during the match against Kings XI Punjab. The left-arm bowler, however, has gotten praise from many of the former cricketers for the work he has put in and the discipline he has shown for the game so far.

"The rhythm felt good before the IPL," Arshdeep told the broadcasters after Punjab Kings beat MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

"I changed my run-up a bit, and it helped with my no-ball problem," Arshdeep added.

Asked about pressure in the death overs, the young star spoke fondly about how he handled the pressure.

"I guess Danny you should come next to me and feel the heart beat; it's not even 120."

Despite the rest of the bowlers being touch-expensive, Arshdeep was enjoying the spell of his life and scalped four wickets in his spell giving away 28 runs. His match-winning bowling knock put the visitors back on track while stopping Mumbai’s momentum.

"I don't think personally I should be getting the Man of the Match [award], [after] the way the boys closed out the game," Curran said.

"Arshdeep and Nathan were incredible. The spinners bowled really well,” the stand-in skipper added.

In the final over he only gave away two runs and guided PBKS to a famous win. Earlier, Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia's quick-fire knocks took Punjab Kings' total to 214/8 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. IPL 2023: Arshdeep Singh's golden arm leads PBKS to last-gasp win; beat MI by 13 runs in thriller

Mumbai Indians' young star Arjun Tendulkar faced a harsh reality with the ball after he had a stellar couple of games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Arjun, son of Sachin Tendulkar was smashed for 31 runs in one over while he took guards against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday, April 22. While this came in as a harsh reality for Arjun, Mumbai will now look to put his disappointment away and try to win their fourth consecutive game in the IPL season.

<h2>Arjun Tendulkar all over the park</h2>

In the 16th over of the match, skipper Rohit opted to give Arjun the ball with Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Sam Curran in the middle. Both were set at that time and looked in red hot form when Arjun was given the ball, who had given away 17 runs in his two overs. However, things did not go according to plan for Arjun as he was smashed for 31 runs in the over.

<h2>6, Wd, 4, 1, 4, 6, N4, 4</h2>

The expensive over saw Sam Curran smack Arjun for a six that was followed by a wide and a four before a single was taken to rotate the strike. Harpreet Singh then got the better of junior Tendulkar and was seen hitting a six and a four which was followed by a no ball and a four. Altogether, Arjun who had produced a match-winning spell against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week quickly saw the harsh reality and was on the receiving end of things.

IPL 2023: 'Sachin Tendulkar was my role model and inspiration' - Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jofra Archer said he's doing his best to regain full fitness after missing four straight matches due to soreness in his elbow. After returning to competitive cricket following a long injury lay-off, Archer made his MI debut against RCB in IPL 2023, where he went wicketless for 33 runs in four overs.&nbsp;

After the game, head coach Mark Boucher informed about swelling in Archer's elbow that further ruled him out. As per the latest reports, the right-arm pacer returned to the nets on Thursday afternoon and bowled four overs - giving an impression as soon he'd be available for selection.

Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Archer said the past two weeks didn't go the way he had planned and that he expected his body to take longer to reach 100% after being out of action for so long.

"Obviously the last two weeks aren't exactly what you would hope for after being so fully active," Archer told ESPNcricinfo. "But it's what you expect when you've been off for a long time: the body's not going to be 100 per cent straight away."

Archer added he and even the team management are not rushing him into getting fit, and even though he cannot wait to get back to the field, the seamer said he is not sure by when he can get the green signal.

"There are going to be moments where it feels a lot more serious than it actually is. I don't know which game will be the next game, but I'm just trying to put myself in the best position possible [to play]," Archer said. "To be honest, I still want to bowl fast and stuff - but when you feel good, you bowl good. I just want to focus on feeling good at the minute," the Englishman added.&nbsp;

Ahead of the 2022 auction, the former five-time champions picked Archer for INR 8 crores (£780,000 approx.) despite knowing he will remain unavailable for that season.

Upon returning, Archer played for MI Cape Town in SA20 and then joined Mumbai Indians for IPL 2023.

Talking about his stay at MI so far, Archer said he is enjoying his time here and hopefully can soon win some games for this team.

"I've been really well looked after here. You feel at home," Archer said. "Everyone has welcomed me with open arms. It's a great franchise, and hopefully, I get the opportunity to win a few games for them. We've won more games than we've lost which is miles better than what we did last year, so everything is going well, and the mood in the camp is good."&nbsp;

As MI will play PBKS at home in a Saturday evening encounter, Archer could return to the XI in that game.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: Jofra Archer close on returning to XI for Mumbai Indians, says his aim remains to bowl fast

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) won their third game in a row when they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 14 runs in match 25 of the IPL 2023 edition on Tuesday (April 18). Asked to bat first, MI rode on Cameron Green's 40-ball 64 and Tilak Verma's 37 to post a challenging 192 for 5. In reply, SRH were bundled out for 178 in 19.5 overs with Green, Cameron Bancroft and Riley Meredith taking two wickets each. Arjun Tendulkar also ended with a scalp, picking the last wicket, to take his maiden IPL scalp.&nbsp;

SRH needed 20 off the last six deliveries when captain Rohit threw the ball to Arjun. The inexperienced campaigner executed the yorkers and bowled well to take his side to a close win as former cricketers and experts of the game shared their opinions on Sachin Tendulkar's son. Joining the bandwagon, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif claimed that Arjun is still a work-in-progress and made a big statement.

Latif said on his Youtube channel, "He's (Arjun) in his initial stage. He has to do a lot of hard work. His alignment isn't good, he won't be able to generate pace."

He further opined, "If a good biomechanical consultant guides him, maybe he can add some pace to his bowling. It's quite a touchy subject, coaching and changing a player. Sachin could've done that himself but he relied on domestic cricket for that." Latif added, "Your base has to be strong. When he lands, he goes out instead of coming in. His balance isn't good, and that's impacting his pace. But again, it's still in the initial stage. He can go till 135kmph, he's a good batter. He can be a good player in 2-3 years."

MI occupy the sixth position in the points table after five encounters, winning three and losing two. They will host Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday evening (April 22) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

IPL 2023: Arjun Tendulkar takes his maiden wicket in MI's last-over win over SRH - Watch

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has praised youngster Tilak Varma for show he has put on since making his debut in IPL last year. Varma, who started with the Indians in IPL 2022, has scored 214 runs in five matches so far in 2023 at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 158.52.

"We watched Tilak last season, and he showed what he can do with the bat, and he's not looked away from it this year as well," said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation after MI beat SRH on Tuesday. "What I like about his game is his approach. He's not playing the bowler, he's playing the ball, which is quite important," he added.

Rohit also went on to predict a bright future for the left-handed batsman and said that he'll be playing for different teams soon.

"For someone of his age, coming out and playing the way he is, he's got a long way to go, and we will see him play for some different teams," said the skipper.

Notably, Varma has been the bright spot in Mumbai lackluster season which is getting on the track slowly with three wins in last three matches.

In 2022, Tilak scored 397 runs in 14 matches with two fifties and at an average of 36. His strike was also near 131 and he was not out three times batting down the order.

Seeing his talent, MI promoted him a little up the order this season and he instantly repaid the faith shown in him with an innings of 84 not out off 46 balls in MI's season opener against RCB. On a pitch where all the other Mumbai batters struggled, Tilak looked ever so elegant in his knock as he helped MI post a competitive total of 171.

RCB, however, won the match by eight wickets, but Tilak made an instant impact after which MI have stuck to him playing in the upper middle-order only.

"What I like about his game is his approach. He's not playing the bowler, he's playing the ball, which is quite important," he added. Rohit also went on to predict a bright future for the left-handed batsman and said that he'll be playing for different teams soon. Also Read: SHOCKING! Bats, other equipment stolen from Delhi Capitals players' kits "For someone of his age, coming out and playing the way he is, he's got a long way to go, and we will see him play for some different teams," said the skipper. IPL 2023: MI skipper Rohit praises YOUNG STAR, predicts bright future for him after win vs SRH

Mumbai Indians bowler Arjun Tendulkar took the first wicket of his IPL career against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which also helped MI close all the doors on SRH for their third win on the trot.&nbsp;

Bowling the last over with SRH needing 20 to win, Arjun got Bhuvneshwar Kumar's wicket on the fifth ball to bowl SRH out and get his first wicket. Arjun's father and cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar was as happy as he could be on his son taking the maiden wicket.

Sachin, in a heartfelt gesture, posted a nice message on Twitter for both Mumbai Indians - the team he played for in IPL, and his son Arjun Tendulkar, although with a cheeky twist.

“A superb all-round performance by Mumbai Indians once again. Cameron Green impressed with both bat &amp; ball. Ishan &amp; Tilak’s batting is as good as it gets! The IPL is getting more interesting every day. Great going boys! And finally a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket!” read the tweet by Sachin Tendulkar.

IPL 2023: Sachin posts CHEEKY tweet on son Arjun Tendulkar taking maiden wicket in MI vs SRH tie

Mumbai Indians star Tim David has reflected on Cameron Green’s performance in the stellar win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday as they registered their third consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Green’s unbeaten fifty against SRH propelled MI to their third win while Tim David was involved in five dismissals that resulted in the 14-run win. The win saw Mumbai go on six points as they now look to mount a firm challenge for a playoff spot.

"Some of you might not know this, but Greeny (Cameron Green) and I actually went to the same school back in Australia. He was a few years younger than me, just a cheeky little bugger. He was not as tall as he is now and he just used to smack me everywhere, I had the side-arm throwing at him, I tried to bump him, but I just could not get him out. Very excited and proud of you mate," David said after playing a key role in MI’s win.

With the game reaching a pivotal point, David executed a perfect run out to dismiss Washington Sundar, which proved to be a match-turning moment. David was involved in four catches and a run out while Green scored 64 runs off 40 deliveries to help the side gain momentum in the season.

"I think the run-out actually was my favourite out of all things I did on the field today because I did not expect it to be out. I was disappointed when they went for the second run, but then Surya came running in from the boundary and said that is actually out," the Singapore national added.

IPL 2023: 'Green smacked me everywhere back in the schools'- MI star Tim David reveals after SRH win

The IPL 2023 edition is on a roll, churning out thrilling contests with each passing day. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), two of the most successful franchises in IPL history, are slowly coming to their own after a slow start and have three wins each after five encounters.&nbsp;

Recently, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar -- who is part of the commentary panel of IPL 2023 -- revealed he would have loved to play for MI, his home franchise. If not MI, Gavaskar stated that he would have loved to play for CSK, the four-time champions, for two reasons -- majorly to play under&nbsp;MS Dhoni.

Gavaskar in a Q&amp;A session on Star Sports, Gavaskar was asked which team he would like to represent in the IPL.&nbsp;While his first choice was MI, he named CSK as his second preference due to the Dhoni factor.

"If not Mumbai Indians then I would like to play for Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings for two reasons, firstly, the Chennai owners are passionate about cricket, they have done so much for the sport. Srinivasan sir has done a lot for cricket. And the second big reason would be to sit in the dressing room with MS Dhoni and see how he captains the team. Is he as calm and composed in the dressing room as he is on the field? Does he lose his cool when someone has dropped a catch or somebody didn’t back up a fielder? That’s what I would like to know," Gavaskar said.

On being asked&nbsp;who he would like to see play in the cash-rich league from his era, Gavaskar mentione,&nbsp;"Look, a batsman I would like to see would be Sandeep Patil, there is only one all-rounder who I would choose – Kapil Dev, for the bowler, I would like to see BS Chandrashekhar play in the T20 format, because his bowling action was not suited only for test cricket, but one day cricket and T20 cricket would also be easy for him."

At present, CSK occupy the third position whereas Rohit Sharma's MI are in the sixth spot.
