Mumbai Indians bowling coach Lasith Malinga is happy with the formidable line-up he has at its disposal as the five-time champions prepare for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians made smart use of their remaining purse for the IPL mini-auctions as they went out and bought Gerald Coetzee and Nuwan Thushara to strengthen an already impressive bowling line-up. They bought eight players during the IPL 2024 mini-auctions and will now look to get the rewards when the season gets underway in March.

According to Harsha Bhogle, Mumbai Indians had a smart business in the auction and looked to be the most balanced side. Mumbai along with the purchases in the auction also got the services of Hardik Pandya having traded him from Gujarat Titans (GT). This means Mumbai will have the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Dilshan Madhushanka and Gerald Coetzee at their disposal during the IPL season.

Mohammad Nabi also came in as a spin option while Hardik will also provide necessary width in the bowling department. Last season, Akash Madhwal and Jason Behrendorff were also impressive for the side in the bowling department. With a good blend of spin and fast bowling options, MI look like a force to reckon with in the bowling department. The five-time champions also have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the batting department along with the rising star Tilak Varma.

With the next season less than four months away, players and coaches will now look to reap rewards for the off-field work in auctions. Mumbai also made an interesting choice ahead of the upcoming season as they will be led by Hardik, instead of Rohit Sharma as they target a sixth title in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians star Chris Jordan was on a rampage in the Big Bash League (BBL) season 13 after he smashed the fastest fifty of the season. The contest on Wednesday (Dec 20) between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers saw Jordan score the fastest fifty of the tournament when the former were batting first. While doing so he also equalled a unique Chris Gayle record at the Perth Stadium. However, unfortunate for Jordan he could prevent his team from defeat despite scoring 59 runs and scalping the only wicket in Perth’s innings.

<h2>Jordan runs riot</h2>

Playing at the Perth Stadium, it was not the best start for the visitors as they were 47/5 at one stage with Perth bowlers running riot. However, Jordan took the initiative in his own hands and smashed the ball all over the place. His innings consisted of 5 sixes and 6 fours and&nbsp;helped Hobart reach a respectable total of 172/8 in their 20 overs. He struck at a strike rate of 295, which is the joint-best for any batter having scored a fifty in the BBL.

Nikhil Chaudhary (40) and Mitchell Owen (28) also played a big role in Hobart reaching 172 having earlier struggled against Perth bowlers.&nbsp;Jason Behrendorff was the star of the show for Perth as he ended with figures of 25/4 in his four overs. Andrew Tye also scalped two wickets but was expensive having given away 49 runs in his four overs. Lance Morris and Ashton Agar both had one wicket each during the Hobart innings.

In reply, Zak Crawley (unbeaten 65) and Aaron Hardie’s 85 saw Perth make an easy meal out of Hobart bowlers. The latter scored 85 runs off 45 deliveries and helped his side to an empathic win by nine wickets. Cooper Connolly (5) was the only wicket that fell in the Perth innings as Jordan had a good day at the office.

On Friday (Dec 15), the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise dropped a bomb by announcing Hardik Pandya as the captain, bringing curtains on Rohit Sharma's successful captaincy era (comprising five IPL and one Champions League trophy). Hardik rejoined his first-ever IPL franchise on the IPL retention deadline day on Nov 26. He moved from Gujarat Titans (GT), where he led them to the championship in their inaugural season in 2022 and in the final in the 2023 edition, to his old franchise and many were speculating&nbsp;such a move by MI. However, after the announcement, the franchise has been facing a lot of backlash with many not impressed with the decision.&nbsp;

Many former cricketers have reacted to Hardik replacing Rohit as the MI skipper. Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar recently joined the bandwagon and stated that the decision will only benefit MI.

Speaking to Star Sports, Little Master Gavaskar said,&nbsp;"We shouldn't go into rights and wrongs. But, the decision they have taken is for the benefit of the team. In the last two years, Rohit's contribution, even with the bat, has dipped a little bit. Earlier, he used to score big, but in the last two years&nbsp;they finished No. 9 or No. 10 the year before last year and in the last year they qualified for the playoffs.&nbsp;But we missed seeing the mojo in Rohit Sharma that we used to see in the previous few years. Maybe, he was a little tired because of playing continuous cricket, he was a little tired because of captaincy, leading India and the franchise."

He added, "I feel that the decision, they have kept in mind that Hardik is a young captain who has produced results. Hardik has led Gujarat to the finals twice, and he led them to the title in 2022. I think they have made him captain by considering all this.&nbsp;At times, you need fresh thinking. Hardk brings in that fresh thinking. I think the decision will only benefit Mumbai Indians, it will not deter them."

Under Rohit, MI became a force to be reckoned with and won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 whereas they also won the now-defunct CLT20 title in 2013. It will be interesting to see how the Mumbai franchise moves forward under Hardik, who tasted huge success as GT's captain in 2022-23.

IPL 2024: West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd traded to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah's cryptic post on Instagram has made a lot of noise. On Tuesday, Bumrah shared a story from his official Instagram handle and wrote, "Silence is sometimes the best answer." His post left fans bewildered and his ardent followers are trying to decipher its meaning amidst rumours and discussions with regard to his professional career. Many feel Bumrah's post is related to Hardik Pandya rejoining Mumbai Indians (MI), after being traded by Gujarat Titans (GT) during the IPL retention deadline day on Sunday (Nov 26).&nbsp;

Former Indian cricketer and chief selector Kris Srikkanth has now joined the bandwagon and commented on Bumrah's viral post. Hardik's move to MI is being&nbsp;seen as a strategic move by Mumbai team management, potentially grooming him as Rohit's successor. Thus, many feel Hardik rejoining MI has ended Bumrah's dream of succeeding Rohit. Srikkanth feels Bumrah 'might have regrets and would have been hurt'.

<h2>'He must be feeling he stayed back with MI but the franchise...'</h2>

Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel, "You can't find another cricketer like Jasprit Bumrah. Be it Tests or white-ball cricket, he is one of the best going around. He gave it his all in the World Cup. And as you said, in the 5th Test against England, he was the stand-in Test captain in 2022. He might have regrets. He would have been hurt. He must be feeling that he stayed back with MI but the franchise is now celebrating someone who left and came back. 'You are making him the biggest thing on earth'. He might feel it's not fair."

"Something, similar happened with Ravindra Jadeja at CSK. But the team management and the captain came in and sorted out everything. In my opinion, what will happen is... I am sure the team management will sit with Pandya, Bumrah, and Rohit and sort out things. As a team only, you can only win championships. I would have been hurt if something like that happened to me. After Hardik Pandya has returned, Bumrah might think, I am from Gujarat, I could have captained that team. I don't know whether it's a lack of communication. Something must have happened. Otherwise, Bumrah, who is such a down-to-earth person... He is a fantastic human being, if he is getting annoyed, obviously, something must have happened," Srikkanth added.

It will be interesting to see how things shape up in the MI camp before the start of the IPL 2024 edition. At present, the team management's focus will be on the forthcoming mini-auction, to be held in Dubai on Dec 19.&nbsp;

IPL 2024 Auction: Remaining purse and slots for all 10 teams after retention deadline day

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has posted a cryptic story on Instagram, leaving fans puzzled and scrambling to find the meaning behind it. Bumrah's post comes after a rather successful World Cup campaign and a day after the Indian Premier League (IPL) retention window closed.&nbsp;

In the story, Bumrah posted a quote that reads, "Silence is sometimes the best answer", and although nothing concrete can be made out of it, some fans have got down to business to dissect what may have prompted Bumrah to post the story.&nbsp;

Notably, a section of fans believe that Bumrah's story is a reaction to Hardik Pandya's return to Mumbai Indians. With Rohit Sharma at the twilight of his cricketing career, many believed that Bumrah was gearing up to take the captaincy duties of one of the most successful franchises of the tournament.&nbsp;

However, after Pandya's surprise move from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians, Bumrah's plans may have been foiled. Pandya is an IPL-winning captain who nearly defended his crown with GT earlier this year if it wasn't for Chennai Super Kings and Ravindra Jadeja.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While Bumrah might be a champion bowler and an integral part of MI's success over the last decade or so, he hasn't been tested as a captain. Cricket pundits believe that Pandya's move to MI has been hatched by the upper hierarchy so that the all-rounder can take over from Sharma.&nbsp;

Notably, Bumrah was forced to skip the entire last IPL season due to a back injury. Although the MI pacer has been retained for the upcoming season, he can still be traded to another team as the window for the same closes on December 12, a week prior to the mini-auction.&nbsp;

With captaincy duties up for grabs in other teams, Bumrah might be tempted for a switch.&nbsp;

'Possible rift?': Jasprit Bumrah's cryptic Instagram post causes stir, puzzles fans

Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians homecoming made headlines for all good, bad and ugly reasons. While several pundits and experts lauded this move in MI's favour, considering the future, few downplayed it for Pandya choosing money over legacy. However, with all being said and done, Hardik has returned to his first IPL team, having desired the same, his previous franchise (Gujarat Titans) team director Vikram Solanki revealed.&nbsp;

In a goodbye message to GT's first captain, who led the side in two IPL finals in successive seasons, Solanki revealed that Hardik had expressed his desire to return to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024.

"As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one TATA IPL championship and one appearance in the final. He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours," Solanki said.

Meanwhile, Hardik's trade from GT to MI saw the former five-time champions release their match-winner-in-making, Cameron Green, who joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in an all-cash deal. &nbsp;

Upon joining the MI Paltan, its owner, Nita Ambani, welcomed India's stand-in T20 captain with open arms, saying it's a heartwarming reunion with the MI family and the team is excited about it.&nbsp;

"We are thrilled to welcome Hardik back home! It’s a heartwarming reunion with our Mumbai Indians family! From being a young scouted talent of Mumbai Indians to now being a team India star, Hardik has come a long way, and we’re excited for what the future holds for him and Mumbai Indians!” Nita Ambani said in a statement.

IPL 2024 Auction: Full list of players retained and released by Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore

Two hours after Gujarat Titans retained their captain, Hardik Pandya, on the IPL 2024 retention deadline day, the dream trade of Pandya returning to his former franchise, Mumbai Indians, turned into a reality. The most talked-about and perhaps the biggest trade in the tournament’s history is said to be completed, with details submitted to the BCCI and all parties concerned in IPL.

As per Cricbuzz, the deal was signed on Sunday (Nov 26) between both franchises in an all-cash trade, meaning no player switched bases from MI to GT. Per the report, the BCCI has given this deal a go-ahead involving just cash transactions, the value of which remains unclear. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya’s league fee for one year is INR 15 crores.&nbsp;

Outside of Hardik Pandya joining Mumbai Indians, the five-time winners let go of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in an all-cash deal to Royal Challengers Bangalore, per the latest reports. Though confirmation of the same is yet to get public, a renowned commentator, Harsha Bhogle, posted on X, putting credibility beside it.

IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya traded to Mumbai Indians; Cameron Green joins RCB in all-cash deal

Gujarat Titans have retained their captain, Hardik Pandya, amid rumours of a potential trade to Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. In one of the most-talked-about switches in the history of IPL auctions, Pandya was said to join his former team, with both the player and the parties concerned coming on the same page. While everyone was keen on watching this dream deal unfold into a reality, GT announced Hardik’s retention on the deadline day.

However, the move to his former franchise is still a possibility, with the trade window open till December 12, which is one week before the IPL 2024 mini-auction scheduled on Tuesday (Dec 19) in Dubai.

Earlier, per several reports, both Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans agreed on an all-cash deal for the trade of India’s stand-in T20I captain. Pandya, who led Gujarat to two back-to-back finals, winning the first time in 2021, was said to be asking for more brand endorsements from GT, which they denied providing outright.

Upon reaching out to his former franchise after the IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians were believed to have promised him to provide the same but with the completion of the trade. Reports further suggested that Pandya and Mumbai Indians agreed on a possible trade even before the World Cup 2023 started.

Although confirmation on this rumoured trade deal is made public, the general narrative feels Pandya will continue leading the Gujarat-based franchise in the 17th season.&nbsp;

While much like most of the top teams, Gujarat has also retained their core, with several match winners lined up to take on everyone come the next season, the newest addition to the IPL family decided to release eight players, including two West Indian and six Indian players.

IPL 2024 Auction: Gujarat Titans retain Hardik Pandya amid trade rumours to Mumbai Indians

The five-time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians, have decided to release star foreign players – Cameron Green and Jofra Archer ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction to manage funds following Hardik Pandya’s shock trade from Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians have a limited purse heading into the auction, and to add more money to their kitty with an extra INR 5 crores from last season, they plan to let go of two massive match winners.

Australian Cameron Green entered his maiden IPL auction last year with a base price of INR 2 crores. Mumbai Indians chased him till the end, succeeding in bagging his services for a whopping INR 17.5 crores – making him the most expensive Australian and the second most expensive purchase in IPL auction history.&nbsp;

In his debut season, despite batting at several positions throughout the tournament, Green made a name for himself, smashing 452 runs in 16 matches, including a hundred in the team’s final league match against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede. That ton also helped MI win the match and qualify for the playoffs. However, Green averaged slightly above 50 (50.22), striking at 160.28.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based outfit had bought the World Cup winner with England, Jofra Archer, for INR 8 crores in the last mega auction in 2021. Though the seamer missed the first season with an injury, he appeared in just five matches the next time, picking two wickets at a biting average of 95 and economy of near 9.5.&nbsp;

With Archer out with a stressed fracture in his right elbow, Mumbai Indians decided to part ways and look out for better injury-free prospects at the IPL 2024 mini-auction. The MI side has also traded West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for his base price of INR 50 lakh.

<h2>Pandya’s shock trade from GT to MI</h2>

The five-time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians, have decided to release star foreign players – Cameron Green and Jofra Archer ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction to manage funds following Hardik Pandya’s shock trade from Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians have a limited purse heading into the auction, and to add more money to their kitty with an extra INR 5 crores from last season, they plan to let go of two massive match winners. Australian Cameron Green entered his maiden IPL auction last year with a base price of INR 2 crores. Mumbai Indians chased him till the end, succeeding in bagging his services for a whopping INR 17.5 crores – making him the most expensive Australian and the second most expensive purchase in IPL auction history. Though the seamer missed the first season with an injury, he appeared in just five matches the next time, picking two wickets at a biting average of 95 and economy of near 9.5. Pandya had started his career with Mumbai Indians in 2015 and played with them for seven seasons before shifting to Gujarat. The all-rounder scored 1,476 runs for the five-time IPL winners MI in 92 matches to go with 42 wickets as well.

IPL: Lasith Malinga replaces Shane Bond as Mumbai Indians new bowling coach

Sri Lanka legend and T20 great Lasith Malinga has replaced Kiwi veteran Shane Bond as the new fast-bowling coach of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the upcoming season of IPL. Malinga, a MI stalwart, returns to his former franchise after spending two seasons with inaugural winners Rajasthan Royals as their fast-bowling coach since his retirement in 2021.

It will be Malinga’s second stint with Mumbai Indians as a member of the backroom staff, having served as a mentor in 2018. The following year, he returned to the field as a player and helped the joint-most successful IPL franchise lift their fourth trophy in the UAE. In 2021, he announced his retirement from the premier domestic tournament.

Shane Bond, who was MI’s fast-bowling coach for the past nine seasons, joining them back in 2015, will make way for Malinga. The future of the former seamer with MI Emirates (as the head coach) in ILT20 remains in limbo as things stand.

The right-arm T20 specialist, Malinga won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians (2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019), alongside winning the now-discarded Champions League T20 in 2011. The death-over specialist played 139 matches for MI, picking 195 wickets at 7.12.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians also changed their top brass ahead of the recently-concluded IPL 2023, with Protean keeper-batter Mark Boucher becoming the MI's new head coach. One of IPL's greatest teams made it to the top four this season, despite starting poorly, for the nth time in tournament history.&nbsp;

They finished fourth on the final day of the group stages but lost to Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the Eliminator. For Mumbai Indians, Tilak Varma and Cameron Green were their star players, while uncapped seamer Akash Madhwal was the emerging player.&nbsp;

Jasprit Bumrah returns: Major competitions missed by India pacer since mid-2022

Tilak Varma made a stunning start to his India career, completing his maiden international fifty against West Indies during the second T20I in Guyana on Sunday. The left-handed batter got fast-tracked into the Indian Team following two super seasons with Mumbai Indians in the IPL, where he emerged as a crunch player in the middle order.

Though he was the top-scorer for India on the two-paced wicket during the 2nd T20I, the Men in Blue failed to defend the total, thus going down 0-2 in the five-match series so far. Speaking on the nature of the surface, Tilak noted it was on the slower side and thus thought any total from 150-160 was enough.

But as it turned out, Nicholas Pooran’s masterclass helped West Indies stay ahead in the chase as they won the contest by two wickets.&nbsp;

"The wicket was on the slower side and slightly double-paced, and that's why we thought that 150 or 160 would be a good score,” Tilak told media after the second T20I.

He added India played well, but the execution of slower balls from West Indies bowlers was the turning point of the game.

“I think we were ten runs short; other than that, I thought we played well," Tilak added. "They were bowling really good. When they bowled, they were using slower ones and hard lengths really well, and they used the wind conditions really well."

<h2>‘I am here because of two IPL seasons</h2>

For someone who averages close to 57 in List-A cricket, Tilak has achieved decent numbers in IPL. While he had a strike rate of 131.02 for his 397 runs in IPL 2022, the left-handed averaged 42.88 with a strike rate of 164.11 in&nbsp;IPL 2023.&nbsp;

His ability to absorb pressure and deliver against even the top sides separates him from his contemporaries.&nbsp;

"Everyone knows that the two IPL seasons were my turning point. I am here because of my performances there," Tilak acknowledged. "So I am just playing with that confidence, and going forward, I want to continue what I've been doing."

He even added that Rohit (MI captain), during Tilak’s first season, called him an all-format player - something that boosted his confidence.

"In my first IPL season, he [Rohit Sharma] told me that I am an all-format player, and that was a huge boost for me. That gave me a lot of confidence. He told me from then that I have to be consistent, and for that, I need to be disciplined off the field. So I take his guidance and have been following the things he has told me to do," Tilak said.

ALSO READ: Marnus Labuschagne dropped as Australia name 18-man preliminary squad for SA, IND ODIs, World Cup 2023 "The wicket was on the slower side and slightly double-paced, and that's why we thought that 150 or 160 would be a good score,” Tilak told media after the second T20I. He added India played well, but the execution of slower balls from West Indies bowlers was the turning point of the game. “I think we were ten runs short; other than that, I thought we played well," Tilak added. "They were bowling really good. When they bowled, they were using slower ones and hard lengths really well, and they used the wind conditions really well." ‘I am here because of two IPL seasons For someone who averages close to 57 in List-A cricket, Tilak has achieved decent numbers in IPL. While he had a strike rate of 131.02 for his 397 runs in IPL 2022, the left-handed averaged 42.88 with a strike rate of 164.11 in IPL 2023. His ability to absorb pressure and deliver against even the top sides separates him from his contemporaries. "Everyone knows that the two IPL seasons were my turning point. I am here because of my performances there," Tilak acknowledged. "So I am just playing with that confidence, and going forward, I want to continue what I've been doing." He even added that Rohit (MI captain), during Tilak’s first season, called him an all-format player - something that boosted his confidence. MLC 2023: MI New York get ready for new challenge as Tim David and Co gather in US for season kickoff

A future superstar in the making, Tilak Varma received his maiden India call-up for the five-match T20Is against West Indies. Playing for South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, Varma revealed receiving advice from stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and how he dreams about playing for India and bailing them out of trouble in crunch games.

India captain Rohit Sharma, who also leads Mumbai Indians, a franchise Tilak Varma plays for, showered praises on the 20-year-old last year, predicting him to burst onto the international scene sooner than expected.&nbsp;

"Having such a calm head is never easy, and in my opinion, I feel he's going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon," Rohit said about Varma in May 2022.

One year later, the prediction came true as Varma, alongside young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal got their maiden call-ups to the Indian team.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Duleep Trophy semis against North Zone in Bengaluru, Tilak revealed the India call-up wasn't on his mind currently, and when he received the information of&nbsp;his selection (from his childhood friend), and informed his parents, they turned emotional and shed happy tears while being on a video call with him.

"I was not thinking about the national side," Varma said. "My mom and dad were crying on video call yesterday; they were very emotional. My childhood friend called me [saying] you have got selected. That was the time — around 8 o'clock [pm] — that I knew I was selected."

Thanks to the platform that IPL is, Tilak, quite early in his career, was able to rub shoulders with the legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit and Virat. Opening up on receiving advice from them, Tilak said,&nbsp;"I have heard a lot from Rohit bhai and Sachin sir, and also from Virat [Kohli] bhai. They always say that when you are in good form, your subconscious mind is in the right place," Varma said. "They also tell me to play close to the body… they always tell that [preparing] off the field is very important."

<h2>IPL treasure set to begin international journey</h2>

In IPL 2023, the young swashbuckler scored 343 runs at an impressive strike rate of 164, the third-best among Indian batters.&nbsp;

Although he is yet to begin his international journey, Tilak revealed he already dreams about playing crunch knocks for India in World Cup.

"I visualise every night how I can bat: if in a World Cup match, we are four or five down for 40 or 50, from there on, how can I take the team forward? It helps in making it easy for me," Varma added.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is very much looking forward to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India and aims to emulate his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indian and India skipper Rohit Sharma's calmness on the field.

“The calmness he (Rohit) has out in the middle is so evident. He’s obviously been there and done that for 10 years. To be out there with him and just talk through a situation was awesome," said Green ahead of the ICC marquee clash which is scheduled to start from June 7.

Speaking about his role in the IPL, Green said he was asked to be aggressive and that Rohit showed the ways&nbsp;on how to go about it.

“My role was trying to be aggressive and then he obviously showed ways to go about it, whether it was attacking spin, attacking pace, kind of picking your bowler in a way,” added the 24-year-old.

Talking about which India batsmen they'll want to get out cheaply, Green took former India skipper Virat Kohli's name. “Virat Kohli. I think he always tries to be the man to stand up in big moments,” he said.

While Green had a decent IPL as he scored 452 runs in his maiden season and&nbsp;claimed six wickets as Mumbai managed to reach the second qualifier, he feels there's won't be problem to switch back to red-ball mode at all.

"A World Test Championship is obviously a massive moment, so I look forward to that. There is nothing like Test cricket when you’re kind of out in the middle. Obviously your nerves are running really high. I think the best players are the best ones that are able to handle that," said the big all-rounder.

After the one-off championship Test, Australia would next be facing England in the iconic five-Test Ashes series.

WTC Final: Aussie Cameron Green wishes to emulate MI skipper Rohit Sharma's calmness in title clash

MS Dhoni won his ninth T20 title as captain when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad in the early hours on Tuesday (May 30). After the win, Dhoni joined Rohit with as many as five IPL titles each as captain. Following IPL 2023 edition, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt compared Dhoni and Rohit and made a big statement on the current Indian captain's fitness.

During a YouTube live session, a fan asked Butt to compare Dhoni and Rohit in terms of fitness and he said, “There's a world of difference between the two. As a captain, when you are in a position to demand something from your teammates, you should have it yourself. You should be top of the line."

While ardent cricket fans often compare the captaincy styles of Dhoni and Rohit, the former was always ahead of many in terms of fitness. Even at 41, the former Indian skipper pulled off the entire IPL 2023 edition despite nursing a knee injury. He blasted 104 runs in 57 balls, at over 180, and remained an asset behind the stumps. During his playing days for India, he was one of the fastest between wickets and remained so even after retirement but injury concerns forced him to go for the big shots and not rely on a lot of running while batting for CSK in the just-concluded edition.

Talking about Rohit, he has suffered various injuries in the recent past. However, he remains a safe fielder and runner between wickets. At present, he is gearing up to lead India in the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final where the national side will face Australia at The Oval, London on June 07.

A star batter for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the past, Hyderabad’s Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) just before the start of the IPL 2023 finale between CSK and Gujarat Titans. As both teams gear up to fight for the coveted IPL trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rayudu, via Twitter, made this announcement. 2 great teams mi nd csk,204 matches,14 seasons,11 playoffs,8 finals,5 trophies.hopefully 6th tonight. It’s been quite a journey.I have decided that tonight’s final is going to be my last game in the Ipl.i truly hav enjoyed playing this great tournament.Thank u all. No u turn 😂🙏 — ATR (@RayuduAmbati) May 28, 2023 × Having made his IPL debut 13 years back in 2010 for Mumbai Indians as a wicketkeeper-batter, Rayudu shined for Sachin Tendulkar-led side and later clinched his maiden title with them in 2013. While his run in the MI camp was as successful as any, Rayudu switching to Chennai Super Kings a few years later brought him laurels too. ALSO READ: Revealed - IPL 2023 Prize Money: Here's how much the winner and runners-up will take home Playing over 200 IPL matches, an achievement he accomplished during this season only, Rayudu has amassed 4329 runs at an average of 28.29 and a strike rate of 127.29. He also has an IPL hundred to his name and was CSK’s go-to-batter for several seasons earlier. Be it playing at the top of the order or being asked to bat in the middle overs, Rayudu always stood up to the challenge and delivered for his team. A live wire on the field, Rayudu is known to have a steady pair of hands and is decent with his out fielding. Though he had always remained among runs, Rayudu’s best run came during the 2018 season when he scored 602 runs from 16 matches and helped CSK lift the title beating SRH in the finals. A vital cog in the wheel for CSK Following announcing his retirement ahead of the last season, Rayudu made a U-turn and returned to playing for CSK after having a brief chat with captain MS Dhoni. Though his side remained among the bottom two in IPL 2022, CSK brought its A-game this time and is now playing the record 10th final in their 14-season history. In IPL 2023, Rayudu didn’t leave an impact as he would have liked but always remained in the scheme of things for Dhoni's side during league games. An experienced customer, Rayudu knows what it takes to deliver in the big final, and despite scoring a mere 139 runs in 15 matches, he can step up and help CSK win their fifth IPL title. Mumbai Indians bowed out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 after losing to defending champions Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier and Mumbai coach Mark Boucher said that it was the injuries to players which hurt the team most.

Mumbai, before the start of the season, had lost fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah due a back injury and then Englishman Jofra Archer, who left after playing just five matches in the season following recovery from an elbow injury.

<h2>Injury to quality players leaves hole</h2>

Speaking to the reporters after a 62-run drubbing, Boucher said, "If you are losing out on your quality players, yes it's going to leave a hole. Not to put any blame on anyone, those things happen in sports, injuries happen in sports and you've got to deal with it."

The Protea, however, said that the replacement players did their best.&nbsp;

"I thought that the guys that we brought in, they did their best in a situation where they probably weren't selected upfront," said the coach.

<h2>Got to look other places if this issue persists</h2>

Boucher, nonetheless, seemed not pleased with the players getting injured repeatedly and said that if the issue continues than the team might have to look at other places.&nbsp;

"Hopefully the guys can get over the injuries. If they can't, then we've got to look other places," he said. "There are so many things that we can talk about but for me to open up a can of worms now would be stupid," added Boucher.

"I think it's time to just sit back, reflect a bit, take the emotion out of it and make some good, sound cricketing decisions once everything is calmed down and once we understand the future of certain individuals and where they are from a fitness perspective," opined the South African.

<h2>Gill masterclass outplays Mumbai</h2>

Gujarat, batting first after losing the toss, put up a mammoth 233-run score in 20 overs on the back of yet another Shubman Gill century. The right-hand opener made merry of a reprieve given to him while batting at 30 off 20 balls and went on to score 129 off 60.

During the chase, Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals and Ishan Kishan being replaced by a concussion sub due to an unwanted injury didn't help their cause either. Titans' Mohit Sharma then did the rest as he took a five-for and Mumbai folded for 171 in 18.2 overs.

Mumbai, before the start of the season, had lost fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah due a back injury and then Englishman Jofra Archer, who left after playing just five matches in the season following recovery from an elbow injury. Injury to quality players leaves hole Speaking to the reporters after a 62-run drubbing, Boucher said, "If you are losing out on your quality players, yes it's going to leave a hole. Not to put any blame on anyone, those things happen in sports, injuries happen in sports and you've got to deal with it." The Protea, however, said that the replacement players did their best. "I thought that the guys that we brought in, they did their best in a situation where they probably weren't selected upfront," said the coach. Gill masterclass outplays Mumbai Gujarat, batting first after losing the toss, put up a mammoth 233-run score in 20 overs on the back of yet another Shubman Gill century. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. IPL 2023: Coach Mark Boucher says MI 'got to look other places' if injury to big players continues

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag is among the many former players who have been impressed by Mumbai Indians batsman Tilak Varma. The southpaw had a great 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 343 run in 11 matches at an average of 42.88 and a strike rate of 164.

Sehwag, however, wants Varma to focus on his fitness now that MI's season has come to end following their 62-run loss in the second qualifier against Gujarat Titans.

Speaking to cricket website Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, "He should focus on 2 things; improve his fitness, and identify the skills that he can work on, as well as the mindset. It often happens when you play regular cricket, you change yourself with time. But when you're not playing cricket, you have to focus on your fitness and your skills. Like Suryakumar Yadav, he practiced a lot for his shots."

Sehwag also said that the young batsman should work on his weakness, whatever it may be, and told an anecdote about him which included an advice from former India captain Sourav Ganguly as well.

“Tilak Varma should focus on improving his weakness. It reminds me of him, when I played for India for the first time in 1999, I was dismissed by Shoaib Akhtar. Before I could bring my bat down, the ball hit my pad. So, Dada (Sourav Ganguly) told me one thing... go back, practice against fast bowling, so you come better prepared. I used to play middle-order, I got spin, and by the time fast bowlers came, I had already scored a century. Likewise, Tilak Varma needs to look on where are his weaknesses,” Sehwag said.

Tilak was unfortunate to miss out on some matches but has grown leaps and bounds in 2023 after making his debut in the league with the Mumbai Indians. The left-hander, though scored less run this season but has improved both his average and strike rate this season, giving Mumbai much needed impetus in the middle overs.
