However, Jadeja's dodgy form has not been the only reason behind CSK's struggles this season as the four-time champions have lacked good starts at the top of the order and have also backed cutting edge in their pace department. New Zealand pacer Adam Milne, who was epected to play a big role for the franchise with his brutal pace, has been ruled out of the season. Moeen was one of CSK's best players in their title-winning campaign last year and can contribute equally well with the bat and the ball.

Despite having applied for his visa quite some time ago and BCCI also intervening in the matter, Moeen is currently stranded in London waiting for his visa approval to catch a flight to India. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said the franchise had expected Moeen to land in India by Monday this week but there has been a delay due to the verification process.

"We were expecting Moeen to join us by Monday but because of the delay in issuing a visa, it is not clear when he will leave for Mumbai. He submitted the visa application on February 28, but because of the verification process, there has been a delay. Unless he enters the bubble by Wednesday noon, it won't be possible for him to play against Kolkata," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be without the services of two of their key players when they take the field against Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Saturday (March 26). CSK will be missing Indian pacer Deepak Chahar and England all-rounder Moeen Ali for the game.

While Chahar is still recovering from his injury and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks of action for CSK, Ali is yet to receive his visa for India and is currently stuck in London. Despite having applied for the visa a long time back, Ali is yet to receive approval and leave for India to join the rest of the CSK squad ahead of the new season.

If Ali manages to land in India today (March 23) only then will he be able to feature in the playing XI for CSK in their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 (Saturday).&nbsp;All players are required to serve at least 3 days of isolation upon landing in their team hotel. Ali is thus likely to miss CSK's opener against Shreyas Iyer's men.

England's spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali on Monday announced retirement from Test cricket to prolong his career in white-ball formats, saying he is "content" despite the widespread belief that he could have achieved a lot more.

The 34-year-old leaves the Test arena with 2,914 runs in 64 matches at an average of 28.29. Besides his five centuries with the bat, Ali has taken 195 wickets with his off-spin bowling at an average of 36.66 since his Test debut in 2014.

"I'm 34 now and I want to play for as long as I can and I just want to enjoy my cricket," Ali said.

"Test cricket is amazing, when you're having a good day it's better than any other format by far, it's more rewarding and you feel like you've really earned it."

Ali had already informed his England captain Joe Root and head coach Chris Silverwood of his decision.

"I will miss just walking out there with the lads, playing against best in the world with that feeling of nerves but also from a bowling point of view, knowing with my best ball I could get anyone out.

"I've enjoyed Test cricket but that intensity can be too much sometimes and I feel like I've done enough of it and I'm happy and content with how I've done."

Ali, who has not played a lot of Test cricket since the 2019 Ashes, was recalled for the recent home series against India. He was apparently not comfortable with the thought of staying away from family for extended periods.

Ali has played 60 tests, 101 one-dayers and 25 Twenty20 internationals - scoring eight hundreds while taking 280 wickets across formats.

He has, however, retained his white-ball contract and is expected to be a key member for 50-over champion England's World Twenty20 campaign in Australia next year.

England's director of cricket, Ashley Giles, supported Ali's decision.

"For all the guys, not just Moeen, it's been a really challenging summer," Giles said. "A World Cup and an Ashes back-to-back has had a massive effect on many of these guys psychologically, as much as physically.

"His experience in the first (Ashes) test wasn't a great one, but that's cricket. He's has been a great servant for his team. And that's why I encouraged him to leave that option open to come back.
