Rohit Sharma-led Team India beat West Indies by six wickets in the three-match ODI series opener on Sunday (February 6) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. With this, India started their home season on a high and also completed their 1000th outing in the 50-over format on an emphatic note.

With a 1-0 lead, Rohit & Co. will not like to lose momentum and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three ODIs as both sides face each other in the second and penultimate match on Wednesday (February 09), at the same venue.

The likes of KL Rahul (limited-overs vice-captain), Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan have been added to the squad. Rahul missed the series opener -- reportedly due to personal reasons -- whereas Iyer and opener Dhawan have recovered from Covid-19 and cleared to train on Tuesday (February 08). It is highly unlikely that the Rahul Dravid-led team management will include both Iyer and Dhawan at one go, however, Rahul is expected to return to the playing XI.

It will be interesting to see who misses out if Rahul is included in the XI. For the Windies, they need to address their batting issues at the earliest whereas a lot depends on Jason Holder and Kemar Roach with the ball. While Alzarri Joseph had a decent outing in the series opener, the inexperienced spin duo of Fabien Allen and Akeal Hosein will be tested by the Indian batters.

INDvsWI: When and where to watch India vs West Indies 2nd ODI match - IST time and streaming details

Virat Kohli might not be the captain of the Indian cricket team anymore but the forme skipper remains a leader in the squad. On Sunday, Kohli played his first ODI under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma as India locked horns with West Indies in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series. It was India's 1000th appearance in an ODI game in international cricket and the team celebrated the remarkable feat with a comfortable six-wicket win at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kohli, who had recently said he doesn't need to be a captain to be a leader in the team, was seen at his usual best on the field for the Men in Blue. The former Indian skipper was seen constantly providing important inputs to skipper Rohit and was also helping the bowlers with valuable tips himself. Kohli helped spinner Yuzvendra Chahal plot the dismissal of West Indies skipper Pollard in the game.

Chahal, who bowled exceptionally well in the first ODI, removed Pollard on a Golden duck in the first ODI. In the 20th over of the West Indies innings, he got rid of Nicholas Pooran on the fourth delivery before sending Pollard packing on the very next ball. As Chahal was gearing up to bowl to Pollard, Kohli was caught on the stump-mic telling the spinner to bowl the wrong one to trap Pollard.

"Ulta wala daal... bindaas daal (Bowl the wrong one)," Kohli was heard advising Chahal, who followed the former skipper's cue and bowled a googly which beat Pollard emphatically and shattered his stumps. Pollard was sent back without managing to open his account as skipper Rohit and Kohli were seen celebrating the dismissal passionately. The duo's celebration together soon became a talking point on social media as fans loved their camaraderie.

India enjoyed a comfortable outing in the first ODI as they secured an easy win against the visitors to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Chahal and Washington Sundar dismantled the West Indies batting line-up as they picked up seven wickets between them to bundle them out for just 176.

Skipper Rohit slammed a brilliant half-century as he combined with his opening partner Ishan Kishan to get India off to a good start in the run-chase. The duo added 84 runs for the first wicket with Rohit notching up 60 off 51 balls. India did lose a few quick wickets in the middle but an unbeaten stand of 62 runs for the 5th wicket between Suryakumar Yadav (34) and Deepak Hooda (26) took them over the line with ease.

West Indies defeated England by 17 runs in the final fifth T20I on Monday (January 31) to clinch the five-match T20I series 3-2. The hosts went on to defend a total of 179 runs against the Moeen Ali-led side to bounce back to winning ways after losing the penultimate game by 34 runs.

West Indies were under significant pressure heading into the series after a disappointing show in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. The Pollard-led side had failed to make it to the knockout stages at the showpiece event before rumours of an alleged rift between Pollard and some players in the team surfaced.

However, the hosts kept the controversies aside and turned up in the final T20I to clinch an emphatic win against England. Skipper Pollard was delighted with the win and decided to surprise the fans by starting his post-match interview by singing a song.

The superstar all-rounder sang a few lines of the famous song 'Solid as a rock' written by Jamaican musician Sizzla. "I say, they can’t keep a good man down. Always keep a smile when they want me to frown.," Pollard was heard singing on the mic as he began his post-match interview.

Kieron Pollard wows fans, starts post-match interview by singing a song after Windies beat England - WATCH

Kieron Pollard-led West Indies defeated England by 17 runs in the five-match T20I series decider at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on January 30 (Sunday). After the series was tantalisingly poised at 2-2, Pollard & Co. produced an all-round performance to win 3-2.

When Pollard and Co. opted to bat first, they rode on Kyle Mayers, Brandon Kings, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell and the skipper's vital knocks to post 179-4 in 20 overs. With 20 needed for Eoin Morgan-led England in the final over, Pollard gave the ball to former captain Jason Holder. Holder didn't disappoint as he became the first West Indies bowler to claim a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game.

At the post-match presentation, Holder reflected on his match-winning and record spell. "A lot of hard work, can improve on my death bowling, add some variations. But I'm gaining confidence and so is the captain in me. Bowling the last over tonight just added to it, I'm happy that I was given the responsibility. I am feeling good about my role in the team, I pass on my experience, pride myself as a complete team player, just want to put my hand up, even when I'm not bowling, I can share a few things with the younger lot. A lot of thanks to the management and the staff," said Holder.

Thus, Holder returned with the Player-of-the-Match as well as the Player-of-the-Series award, accounting for 15 scalps in five games.

Kemar Roach recalled as West Indies announce a strong 15-man squad for India ODIs

The BCCI announced 18-member ODI and T20I squads for Team India's white-ball series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies on Wednesday (January 26). As it was reported earlier that Rohit Sharma had passed the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bengaluru, Hitman has returned to the squad after missing the entire South Africa tour. Rohit was appointed as the white-ball captain in early December 2021, however, he missed leading the side in the three ODIs in South Africa due to hamstring injury. Nonetheless, he has returned as Rohit will gear up to play his first ODI series since early 2021.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, however, remained unfit and couldn't return to the line-up, failing to recovering from his knee injury. Selectors didn't include Hardik Panya as well, in any of the squads, as they aren't fully confident of his ability to deliver as an all-rounder due to fitness concerns. R Ashwin, meanwhile, is not in any squads for being unavailable for selection and the offie is undergoing treatment. Bhuvneshwar Kumar held onto his T20I spot but isn't in the scheme of things for ODIs.

The West Indies-England T20I series has lived upto expectations so far. While the Kieron Pollard-led Windies won the series opener, Eoin Morgan's England returned to winning ways versus the former world champions to level the five-match series at 1-1.

The third T20I will, thus, be very crucial and can determine which way the series will eventually go. Talking about the series opener, Pollard & Co. dismissed England for a paltry 103 and chased down the score with 9 wickets and 17 balls to spare. Jason Holder's 4 for 7 led the charge of the hosts in the first encounter. In the second T20I, the 2016 T20 World Cup's runners-up Morgan & Co. defended a competitive 171/8 by a whisker; i.e. by a run.

Chasing 172, Windies were down and out at 98-8 in 15.1 overs. Nonetheless, their unbroken ninth-wicket stand between Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein took the hosts to 170/8 in 20 overs. Thus, another riveting encounter is on the cards between the two heavyweight T20I line-ups.

The D-Day is finally here. The existing eight IPL franchises have released their set of retained players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. In this regard, the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) have also shared their list.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and pacer Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder and vice-captain Kieron Pollard and No. 3 batter Suryakumar Yadav have been retained by the Men in Blue. Hence, some of the big names in their line-up such as Pandya brothers, Quinton de Kock, Trent Boult and Ishan Kishan have missed the cut; shocking many of their loyal fans worldwide.

Talking about Rohit and Bumrah, they remain their most important players. While Rohit has been their seasoned campaigner and led them to five titles, Bumrah has also made a resounding name for himself worldwide while playing for the franchise. He has been a regular for the MI line-up, with 130 wickets so far, and his retention isn't surprising. On the other hand, Pollard's association with the MI line-up started since the IPL 2010 edition and has been a vital cog of the franchise ever since. He has amassed 3,268 in 178 matches for the MI franchise along with accounting for 65 wickets. MI complete retention list: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard retained

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan recently named four players he feels Mumbai Indians (MI) should retain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The deadline for the existing eight franchises to submit their final list of retentions is November 30. Each of the eight teams has been allowed a maximum of only four retentions with no right to match option in the auction this time around.

While reports have confirmed about some franchises having made up their minds on who to retain and whom to let go, there has been no official word from any of the eight teams yet. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians, who are the most successful team in the history of IPL, have a star-studded squad at their disposal and are set to face a tricky situation as far as their four retentions are concerned.

Pathan recently picked the four players he thinks MI should retain ahead of IPL 2022. The former pacer picked captain Rohit Sharma as the first-choice retention followed by ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He also backed West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard to be retained by the side considering his all-round abilities and experience over the years.

Pathan picked Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya as his fourth-choice retention for Mumbai Indians. Despite his recent form being questionable and doubts over his bowling in the long-term, Pathan feels MI should not let go of Hardik, who can be a match-winner with both the bat and the ball on his day.

“Among overseas players, it will be Kieron Pollard. No doubt about that; at least in my mind. I don’t know what Mumbai Indians are thinking. He is the guy that has won you games for so many years and consistently. His batting is still top-notch and is still the powerhouse when it comes to big-hitting as well as finishing the games," Pathan told Star Sports.

"So, Pollard will definitely be on the radar. I would definitely go for Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya. I can actually name the other two guys as well. No. 1 would be Rohit Sharma and No. 2 would be Jasprit Bumrah," he added.

Pathan also said young wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan could be one of the retentions for Mumbai Indians. However, he snubbed the likes of Trent Boult and Suryakumar Yadav among others, who have been vital cogs of the Mumbai Indians line-up over the last few years.

While Suryakumar has been one of the most consistent batters for the side, Boult has been exceptional since joining the five-time champions in the 2020 season. It remains to be seen who will Mumbai Indians keep and who will they let go of ahead of the mega auction.

West Indies were once the powerhouse in T20 cricket and have two back-to-back T20 World Cup titles to back the claim. A country blessed with some of the best all-rounders to have graced the shortest format of the game, the Caribbeans dominated T20 cricket for several years until their downfall in T20 World Cup 2021.

Not many years ago, they were called the dark horses heading into any big T20 tournament, but West Indies shun the tag under Daren Sammy's captaincy and became a force to reckon with in world cricket. The firepower in their batting line-up coupled with the presence of numerous all-rounders in the squad saw the men from Caribbean become the world-beaters in the shortest format.

The quality in their squad was no different this time around as well, as the two-time champions headed into this year's T20 World Cup as everyone's second favourites. They were no more being addressed as the underdogs and were clear contenders to successfully defend the coveted title and make it a hat-trick of triumphs.

However, they had an abysmal campaign finishing last in the Group 1 to miss out on a spot in the semi-final and expose the shortcomings which had been in the making for long. Despite having a fine blend of youth and experience, West Indies were left exposed at the big stage and could do little to hide the evident struggles in the side.

Kieron Pollard's men got off to a woeful start with a shattering defeat against England and could never really bounce back as they managed only one victory in their remaining four matches to finish fifth with just two points. Their abysmal campaign also marked an era in West Indies cricket as Dwayne Bravo retired from international cricket while Chris Gayle all but confirmed he might never turn up in T20Is again.

Here we try to break down what went wrong for West Indies at T20 World Cup 2021:

1) Misfiring batters

West Indies are blessed with some of the most explosive batters in world cricket. They have a batting line-up capable of destroying bowling attacks at will in any game. With the likes of Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Evin Lewis, Kieron Pollard and Shimron Hetmyer headlining the batting line-up, Windies were expected to bulldoze teams while taking their bowling attacks apart. But that wasn't the case in the UAE.

The openers failed to provide good starts consistently while the middle-order remained non-existent throughout the tournament as the batters failed to fire as a unit. Lewis and Hetmyer did produce a couple of sublime knocks but barring them, the rest of the batters filed to live up to the expectations.

Despite having a batting line-up with the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Jason Holder turning up at no. 8 and 9, West Indies failed to captalise and there failure with the bat was one of the biggest reasons behind their shambolic campaign which saw them win just one out of five matches in the tournament.

2) Lack of genuine pacers

While both Jason Holder and Dwayne Bravo can do the job with the ball in the T20s and have a proven record when it comes to the shortest format, the lack of genuine fast bowlers haunted West Indies at the T20 World Cup 2021. Veteran Ravi Rampaul, who made his comeback in the squad for the showpiece event, managed only two wickets in four appearances for the side.

Left-arm pacer Obed McCoy was in the bowling line-up in the opener against England but was replaced by Jason Holder after getting injured. Oshane Thomas was left to warm the bench for the entire tournament while the likes of Sheldon Cottrell and Alzarri Joseph were not even picked in the squad.

3) Spinners failed to step up

While the lack of a genuine pacer cost West Indies dearly in the T20 World Cup 2021, the spinners in the squad failed to make the most of the chances coming their way and were far from impressive. Akeal Hossein and Hayde Walsh were the two spinners in the squad and both of them collectively managed to pick only five wickets throughout the tournament.

While Hossein picked up all the five wickets, Walsh remained wicket-less in the entire tournament as he managed to make only a solitary appearance for the team. The lack of support from the other end meant Hossein had the majority of the burden on his shoulders as a lone spinner and the pressure caught up to his performances.

4) Big names disappointed

Very few teams can boast of quality all-rounders like West Indies did in the tournament. They had the likes of Pollard, Andre Russel, Dwayne Bravo and Jason Holder among others. Anyone of them can be a game-changer with the ball or the bat on their day but all of them disappointed in the World Cup.

While Russell would only score 25 runs and picked up three wickets, Bravo scored 26 runs and managed only two scalps. Captain Pollard scored 90 runs and bowled just 2.2 overs in the tournament while Holder averaged a shocking 85 with the ball and picked up only one wicket. With the bat, he didn't get enough chances and scored ony 24 runs.

Misfiring batting, lack of fast bowlers: Decoding West Indies' downfall in T20 World Cup 2021

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh recently picked up a star-studded XI when asked to name his all-time best T20 team. Harbhajan, who was part of India's 2007 T20 Wold Cup-winning campaign under MS Dhoni, named the former India captain as the skipper of his all-time T20 XI. Harbhajan also played under Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Regarded as one of the greatest captains of all-time, Dhoni has won almost everything there is to be in world cricket. He is considered India's most successful captain with all three major ICC trophies to his name. He has also led Chennai Super Kings to a staggering four IPL titles as a captain.

While Harbhajan picked Dhoni as the captain of his team, he named Rohit Sharma and the explosive Chris Gayle as the openers of his team. Both Rohit and Gayle can take any bowling attack to the cleaners on their day. England batter Jos Buttler found a spot at no. 3 in Harbhajan's all-time T20 team.

At no.4, Harbhajan went with former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson, who has 8821 runs and an impressive 216 wickets in 343 T20 matches. South Africa star AB de Villiers was roped in by Harbhajan at no.5 while Dhoni was kept at no.6 as a wicket-keeper and the captain of the team.

Harbhajan then picked two T20 greats from West Indies as the next two all-rounders in his team. He named Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard in the team, both of whom have won several titles in T20 leagues around the world and have massive experience in the shortest format.

West Indies and Sri Lanka will lock horns with each other in match 35 of the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, being held in the UAE. This will be the second game of the day, which will be played soon after the Australia-Bangladesh encounter from the same group, i.e. Pool A.

Talking about both sides' campaigns, Windies as well as Sri Lanka haven't found the momentum in the Super 12 round. Kieron Pollard-led West Indies are one of the biggest disappointments in the mega event as they have managed only one win from three encounters. As their batters haven't managed to adjust to the tricky surfaces in the UAE, the defending champions and two-time winners West Indies are on the brink of an early elimination. They need to win both their games, by big margins, and hope for other results to favour them to go into the semis.

On the other hand, Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka impressed in the warm-up games and the qualifiers. Nonetheless, they haven't managed to get going in the main draw. WI vs SL, T20 World Cup 2021 prediction: Who will win today's match between West Indies and Sri Lanka?

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard appeared to have 'retired out' during his side's Super 12 clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Friday (October 29). The incident happened during the 13th over West Indies' innings when Pollard decided to simply walk back to the pavilion after taking a single off Taskin Ahmed on the third ball of the over.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, West Indies got off to a poor start on a sluggish pitch in Sharjah on Friday. They were reduced to 3/32 inside seven overs as the batters struggled to get going.

Pollard, who came out to bat at number five, was also struggling to middle the ball and was batting on 8 off 16 balls when he decided to walk back to the dressing room in the 13th over. West Indies' score read 3/62 at the time when Pollard's antics left everyone surprised.

While no official reason has been revealed yet on Pollard's antics, it appeared to be a tactical move from the West Indies captain to retire out from the game as he was not able to accelerate properly in the middle. However, the move didn't work as Andre Russell, who walked out to bat next, was run out on the next ball and was sent back on a duck.

While the 'Retired out' rule states that the batter will be considered dismissed if he decides to walk back without the permission of the on-field umpire, Pollard returned to bat for West Indies in the final over and slammed a six off the last ball to finish with 14 runs off 18 balls.

Nicholas Pooran's quickfire 40 off 22 balls and Jason Holder's 15 off 5 deliveries helped West Indies post a fighting total of 142/7 on the board in 20 overs after a disappointing start. However, it was Pollard's antics that caught the eyes of the fans and left them amused.

What does the Retired out rule states?

The 'retired out' rule comes into play when a batter decides to retire without the permission of the umpire and doesn't have the permission of the rival captain to resume his innings. In such a case, the batter is considered dismissed and the dismissal mode is marked as - 'retired out'. A batter retires out when he decides to walk out despite not being injured or ill and doesn't resume batting.

However, in Pollard's case, he did come back to bat again and finished his side's innings. Though the West Indies skipper didn't appear to be hurt at any point while batting it remains to be confirmed by the team management if he was retired hurt or retired out.

If Pollard did retire out, it will become the first instance of a batter retiring out midway through the innings on his own will in T20Is.

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard appeared to have 'retired out' during his side's Super 12 clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Friday (October 29).

Did Kieron Pollard retire out against Bangladesh? West Indies skipper's antics leave fans surprised

West Indies and Bangladesh will lock horns with each other in match 23 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 edition, being held in the UAE. This will be the first match of the day, with Pakistan-Afghanistan face-off to follow suit.

Defending champions Windies have had a torrid run in the showpiece event. The Kieron Pollard-led side not only lost their warm-up games, but also conceded their first two games in Super 12 round in Pool A. Their margin of defeats, by 6 and 8 wickets respectively, is also hurting them and the Men in Maroon need a revamp at the earliest.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, is also desperate to get off the mark in the Super 12. While they did compete well versus Sri Lanka, only to lose by 5 wickets, they were humbled by England by 8 wickets at Dubai.

In head-to-head, Windies lead Bangladesh by a slender margin of 6-5. Who among the two will get off the mark in the points table and which will be the side to remain winless?

T20 World Cup, BAN vs WI live streaming: When and where to watch Bangladesh vs West Indies match?

The star all-rounder Hardik Pandya of the Mumbai Indians might not get retained by his current franchise as he is likely to be sent back into the Indian Premier League auction pool, media reports have suggested. The five-time champions will have to make some difficult choices to make in the upcoming mega auction that is likely to happen in December. A recent report has also suggested that teams will be able to retain a maximum of four players.

After the addition of two new teams — Lucknow and Ahmedabad — the narratives of the tournament has been changed. The two new franchises reportedly can acquire three players from the rest of the player pool before the 2022 auction.

Now, talking about the Mumbai Indians team, the news is not good if reports are to be believed as it has been stated that MI will not retain him. As per the report, the top three players who will be retained are skipper Rohit Sharma, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrsh and West Indies star Kieron Pollard.

"I think BCCI will have three-player retention formula with one Right to Match card. If RTM is not there, there could be four retention," PTI reported citing a senior IPL official, who is tracking the retention market of franchises.

"Rohit Sharma and India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrsh are automatic picks. Kieron Pollard will be third retention. MI's strength is their continuity as these three are pillars of MI," the official added.

"At this point in time, there is less than 10 per cent chance that Hardik will be retained by MI. IPL auction: Hardik Pandya unlikely to be retained by Mumbai Indians - Reports

On Tuesday (October 26), the T20 World Cup 2021 edition will see a doubleheader as South Africa will lock horns with West Indies at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai in what will be the first game of the day. This will be followed by Pakistan's much-awaited face-off with New Zealand in the evening clash, at the Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah.

Both South Africa and West Indies started their Super 12 round with defeats. While Temba Bavuma-led Proteas lost to Australia in an intense clash, in the last over, by 5 wickets, the defending champions Windies were thrashed by Eoin Morgan-led England by 6 wickets as they succumbed to the third-lowest total in T20 WC history after being 55 all-out.

While both sides are entering the contest on the back of defeats, they shouldn't be too worried as it is still the early stage of the tournament. The Windies, however, will be desperate to notch up a win as they have lost three matches in a row, including the two warm-up encounters. They can still draw some inspiration from the fact that they reduced England to 39/4 in defence of a paltry 56 in their opening game.

In head-to-head, Proteas lead the Windies 9-6 whereas they are also ahead in T20 WC with a 2-1 lead.

Match prediction for SA vs WI encounter: The Dubai surface will continue to challenge all the teams in the tournament. The batsmen will have to take some time initially in order to take on the bowlers. A par-score in Dubai is tough to predict but anything over 150-160 will challenge the chasing side. It will be interesting to see if the dew factor comes into play or not. SA to add to WI's miseries by earning their first win of the tournament?

SA vs WI, T20 World Cup 2021 prediction: Who will win today's match between South Africa and West Indies?

Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen starred as South Africa thrash West Indies by eight wickets in the Group 1 encounter of Super 12s in the ongoing ICC men`s T20 World Cup here at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday. South Africa chased the target of 144 with eight balls to spare as Markram and Van der Dussen played the innings of 51* and 43* respectively.

Chasing 144, excellent work in the field by Russell provided exactly the start West Indies had hoped for as Temba Bavuma walked back in the first over. Hendricks and Van der Dussen then forged a 50-run stand for the second wicket as South Africa consolidate their position in the chase. Hosein then dismissed Hendricks to give a vital breakthrough to WI but the duo of Van der Dussen and Markram stitched another 50-run partnership and held SA`s innings in good shape.

The pair then cruised South Africa to victory and handed defending champions their second successive defeat in the tournament. Put in to bat first, West Indies started off cautiously off the blocks initially after which Evin Lewis started to free his arms and took the attack against South African bowlers, especially to the part-time spin of Aiden Markram. At the end of the powerplay, their score read 43/0.Evin Lewis continued his charge against SA bowlers as he brought up his half-century in the 10th over. But in next over, Maharaj removed dangerous-looking Lewis. He walked back after scoring 56 off 35 balls. Nicholas Pooran followed the opener soon. The other WI opener, Lendl Simmons was dismissed in the 14th over after his 16 off 35 balls. West Indies lost a few wickets in clumps in the end but managed to make 143 runs in their 20 overs for South Africa to chase.

T20 WC: South Africa thrash West Indies by 8 wickets as defending champions lose two in a row

Kieron Pollard, the captain of the West Indies T20I team, has announced that all-rounder Sunil Narine would not be included in the team's selection for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

On Monday, Narine took four wickets for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator of the current Indian Premier League (IPL).

"That has been explained. If I add my two cents or my words on how his non-inclusion came about, then it could be spun - just like how he`s bowling on these Sharjah wickets - in all different directions. Let`s deal with the fifteen guys that we have here at this moment in time, which is more important, and see if we can rally around these guys and see if we can defend our title," Pollard was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying.

"I have no comments on that. Enough has been said on that. I think persons have explained the reason for his non-inclusion at this point in time. For me personally, I know Sunil Narine as a friend first, before an international cricketer. We grew up playing cricket together. He is a world-class cricketer," he added.

Andre Russell, Narine's KKR teammate, has been out of the IPL since September 26 due to injury, but Pollard is hopeful that the all-rounder will be healthy for the T20 World Cup.

"Before I make any assumptions as to what he can or he can`t do, we need to do our assessment first as a team. We haven`t had the opportunity to see him. We`ve gotten reports as to what he has done. I wouldn`t want to get into trying to say what he can or can`t do at this point in time," said Pollard.

Sunil Narine would not be added to Windies T20 WC squad, confirms Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard, the skipper of the West Indies cricket team said that his side will "continue to take a knee" during the ICC T20 World Cup also as it is something that they strongly believe in. In a support of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, the West Indian players have been taking a knee and raising their fists before the start of games.

During a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Pollard said, "From my knowledge at this present time, I think it's something we're going to continue because it's something that we strongly believe in, as a team. "Again, sometimes, you just have to look at the man in the mirror, and if we think it is something that is very, very important to us, we will do it. And if the opposition thinks that as well, it's up to them. If they don't, (it's a matter of) personal choices," added Pollard.

On the other hand, England pace bowler Chris Jordan has said that his side has not yet decided on the issue. "Nothing has been discussed, really. We'll discuss it and if people feel strongly about it, we'll definitely do it. On the flip side, if we don't, then we won't. We'll have to discuss that internally and then take it from there," he said.

Kieron Pollard becomes first player in T20 cricket to complete 10,000 runs and 300 wickets

Former India cricketer and cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar has backed two Mumbai Indians (MI) stars as potential captaincy replacements for Virat Kohli after he steps down as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) post the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. Manjrekar has made a couple of surprising picks for RCB captaincy post Kohli.

Kohli has already announced that he will be stepping down as the captain of the franchise after the end of the ongoing season. While many believe AB de Villiers should get a chance to lead the side, Manjrekar believes De Villiers should not be Kohli's successor as he is already in the twilight of his career.

Manjrekar named a total of three players who he feels will be ideal replacements for Kohli as RCB captain. He picked two Mumbai Indians players - Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav along with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star David Warner to become the next RCB skipper.

"How many years could you get out of AB de Villiers as the captain? So I would like to have someone who has at least three years to offer. Pollard is one guy who has the leadership qualities. Suryakumar Yadav and David Warner are my three contenders," Manjrekar said in a video on ESPN Cricinfo.

Pollard has led Mumbai Indians on several occasions in the absence of Rohit Sharma while Suryakumar was the vice-captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders during his stint with the side under Gautam Gambhir's captaincy. Warner, who has led Sunrsiers Hyderabad to their only IPL title, was sacked from captaincy last season and can be a terrific replacement for Kohli.

Kohli's RCB currently find themselves on the third spot on the points table after a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Friday. Kohli will be hoping to end on a high and help his side clinch their maiden IPL title before stepping down as the captain.

IPL 2021: Looking forward to repeat what we did last year in UAE, says MI all-rounder Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard is known for entertaining his fans with his unique antics on a cricket field. An incident took place during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), that left several fans baffled.

During a match between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings at Warner Park, Pollard was visibly disappointed after a wideish delivery was bowled by Wahab Riaz was not given a wide ball. The questionable umpiring decision upset both Seifert (who was at the striker's end), and Pollard (who was at the non-striker's end).

Pollard had an argument with the umpire for the call and after a brief chat he decided to ar away from the non-striker's end. As a sign of protest, Pollard stood near the 30-yard mark.

Australia handed the West Indies a six-wicket defeat on Monday to clinch a 2-1 one-day international series win and leave home captain Kieron Pollard criticising the quality of the pitch in Bridgetown.

The Australians cruised past their modest target of 153 runs with just over 19 overs remaining as Matthew Wade top scored for the tourists with 51 runs, ensuring stand-in captain Alex Carey led the team to a series victory.

"I think both teams struggled on the pitch and I think that's unacceptable for international cricket," said Pollard, whose team were bowled out with more than four overs remaining.

"We're not going to make excuses. We accept that we batted badly but I don't think the scores that we have gotten in this three-match series, with two top international teams, I think that's very embarrassing for us as a people."

All five Australian bowlers claimed wickets with Mitchell Starc taking three for 43 while his new-ball partner Josh Hazlewood took two for 18 from eight overs.

There was joy, too, for spinner Ashton Agar, who relished the conditions as he claimed two wickets for 31 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

The West Indies struggled with the bat, with only opener Evin Lewis making a significant contribution against the tourists with a knock of 55 runs.

Lewis' innings came after he had been temporarily forced from the field having played a ball from Hazlewood onto his own helmet with the West Indies at 14 without loss.

By the time he returned following Keiron Pollard's dismissal, the hosts were 71 for five and although Lewis continued to offer resistance, he was soon left unaccompanied at the crease with the West Indies all out for 152.

Cricket: Kieron Pollard slams pitch as Australia cruise to series win

The West Indies versus Australia T20I series will get in progress tomorrow in Gros Islet, Daren Sammy National Stadium. Kieron Pollard will lead a ritzy West Indies crew including any semblance of Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons, DJ Bravo, and Andre Russell.

In the interim, Aaron Finch's Australian team doesn't have huge names like Steve Smith, David Warner, and Glenn Maxwell for this visit. Although, this five-match series vows to engage the fans.

Although, five of their eleven machetes have occurred at different editions of the T20 World Cup. In matches played in the West Indies, the two teams have won twice in four matches in general. It will be intriguing to see which team starts to lead the pack in the head-to-head record after this series.

Dwayne Bravo demonstrated in the T20I series against South Africa that age is only a number. In spite of the fact that he was unable to help his team to a series win, He beat the bowling graphs with ten wickets. The 37-year-old had an economy rate of under seven runs, while his best figures in the series were 4/19.

So far in his profession, Chris Gayle has played nine T20Is against Australia, collecting 299 runs at n average of 42.71, doing as such at a strike rate of 159.89 and a top score of 88. West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has amassed 67 runs in two T20I matches at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. Probable XI: Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Obed McCoy, Fabian Allen, and Fidel Edwards

Australia

Aaron Finch returned to form in the T20I series against New Zealand recently. Without Steve Smith, David Warner, and Glenn Maxwell Australian skipper should score the greater part of the runs for his team.

Australia's Daniel Christian got back with figures of 3/27 in the lone T20I he has played on this ground. Australia will expect a comparative presentation from their accomplished all-rounder in the impending series.

Probable XI: Aaron Finch, Matt Wade, Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Marsh, Daniel Christian, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa and Riley Meredith.

Albeit the hosts may hold the edge ahead of the challenge and series, the Australians can't be trifled with at any expense. With any semblance of Mitchell Starc and Kieron Pollard set to take on each other, a cracking game of T20 cricket is on cards.

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has amassed 67 runs in two T20I matches at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. His most noteworthy score in T20Is at this setting is 54*. Probable XI: Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Obed McCoy, Fabian Allen, and Fidel Edwards Australia Aaron Finch returned to form in the T20I series against New Zealand recently.

Shimron Hetmyer has not reliably included somewhat recently because of injury concerns and he even quit the Bangladesh visit. Since making his debut in 2017, the 24-year-old has played just 16 Tests, 45 ODIs, and 27 T20Is for the West Indies.

In an interaction with Line and Length TV Show, Kieron Pollard expressed that Shimron Hetmyer is the player who will take West Indies cricket forward.

“We love Hetty. He is a young, talented cricketer. He is a guy who we know, deep in our hearts, can take West Indies cricket forward from a generational point of view with his skill and what he can achieve on a cricket field” - he said.

"He knows the truth and he knows what it is. We would love Hetty to be playing all three formats, but as the saying goes, ‘You can only take the horse to the water, but you can’t force him to drink.’ With that being said, I will leave it right there and for the individual to get things together" - he added.

Talking about Shimron Hetmyer's exhibitions across the various formats of the game, Kieron Pollard said:

“He has a fantastic record in ODI cricket. We saw what he can do in the Indian Premier League and it’s just for him to take what’s in front of him. The world is at his feet."
In the last one year, Shimron Hetmyer has overseen just 100 runs from five innings in T20Is and 14 runs in two ODIs.

“We have to plan properly in order to conquer. I'm not looking too much into the names of the opposition because as I said before these guys are talented in their own right as they would have not been selected for their national teams otherwise” - he added.
