Iran has pushed back the state funeral of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei, with authorities now planning to hold the ceremony in late June or early July, according to Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani. The announcement marks another delay in funeral arrangements for Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28, the opening day of the Middle East war.
When will Ali Khamenei's funeral be held?
Iranian officials had previously indicated that the funeral would take place in early Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. The report also said there had been no official confirmation from Tehran regarding any deal with the United States. Iran’s Tasnim news agency also dismissed Trump’s remarks, saying similar claims had been made earlier without any outcome. "Until Iran announces the matter of a potential understanding, any news from Trump on this subject should be regarded as his previous messages," it said. The developments come as Tehran and Washington continue to exchange proposals aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, which began on February 28. Despite a fragile ceasefire in place since April 8, both sides have recently increased exchanges of fire, keeping tensions high across the region. India on Wednesday (Jun 10) expressed deep concerns over the conflict in the Middle East at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate, urging all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation and prioritise the safety of civilians. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, firmly opposed the attacks on merchant shipping, condemning the loss of lives of Indian nationals in attacks against Gulf nations and commercial vessels. This comes after a US strike on a tanker off the coast of Oman earlier in the day. The intensification of the conflict and its spread to other nations have evoked great anxiety. The mounting destruction and deaths and cessation of normal life and economic activities have deeply impacted India, a proximate neighbour with critical stakes in the security and stability of the region.”He added, “There are almost ten million Indian citizens who live and work in the Gulf region. Their safety and well-being are of the utmost priority to us. Our trade and energy supply chains are dependent on stability in the region, and any major disruption has serious consequences for the Indian economy.”Condemning the attacks that claimed the lives of Indian nationals, Harish said, “India is also firmly opposed to attacks on merchant shipping as many of our nationals are prominent in its global workforce. Many Indian nationals have lost their lives or are missing as a result of attacks against countries of the region and against merchant vessels and sea lanes of communication.”“In this background, India strongly reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy, avoiding impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, avoiding military targeting of commercial shipping, avoiding targeting of civilian population and infrastructure, and seeking an early end to the conflict. According to the statement, the group claimed responsibility for attacks on Jewish communities in the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands, including the stabbing of two Jewish men and several arson attacks on synagogues and community sites in north London. "We stand united in our determination to protect our countries and our people against these threats. The Islamic Republic of Iran must halt these actions now," the countries said. Australia was among the signatories and had previously accused Tehran of directing attacks on a synagogue in Melbourne and a kosher cafe in Sydney. Canberra later expelled Iran's ambassador, withdrew its own envoy from Tehran and suspended embassy operations. In November, Australia designated the Revolutionary Guards as a state sponsor of terrorism, describing the alleged incidents as "unprecedented and dangerous acts of aggression orchestrated by a foreign nation on Australian soil". Iran's foreign ministry rejected the move at the time, calling it an "insulting and unjustified act" that violated international rules and norms. The statement was issued by Albania, Australia, Belgium, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United States.

The countries said Iranian security agencies were using both local and international criminal networks to target dissidents, journalists, and Jewish and Israeli communities across Europe, North America, and Australia.

The US Navy used a little-known military technology to rescue two US Army helicopter crew members in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz. This, according to reports, may be the first known US use of an unmanned military vessel to recover personnel at sea.
