A new Congressional Research Service report has revealed the scale of American losses during the Iran conflict, with 42 US military aircraft reportedly damaged or destroyed. The losses include advanced platforms such as F-15s, an F-35 stealth fighter, MQ-9 Reaper drones and refuelling aircraft. Pentagon officials say the war has already cost nearly $29 billion, largely due to repair and replacement expenses. The conflict has also intensified debate over modern air warfare and the vulnerability of high-value military assets.

Iran’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad compared Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz to a nuclear bomb as tensions remain in the region. Speaking in an interview on Iranian media, Nikzad said that the Strait of Hormuz is Iran’s atomic bomb. This comes as Iran and the United States continue to issue threats despite a ceasefire. Talks between the two sides have been stalled as certain issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, remain unresolved.Slamming US President Donald Trump’s contradictory statements since the war began on February 28, Nikzad said that the US statements do not have any credibility. He added that, on the other hand, Iran has a fundamental ideological basis for the issue of war.The deputy speaker stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its previous state, adding that a law will be passed in the Iranian parliament and steps for it are being taken.“The Strait of Hormuz is more important to me than a nuclear bomb. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has triggered one of the biggest disruptions in modern energy markets, but one industry has emerged as a clear winner…oil shipping. The disruption has sent tanker freight rates soaring. Industry profits hit a record 36 billion dollars in the first quarter of the year, surpassing the previous peak set during the energy crisis of 2022.

Oil prices have fallen, but the risk of a rebound remains as global market volatility continues. In the US, inflation is accelerating while real incomes are declining, putting pressure on household purchasing power. Meanwhile, the eurozone is also experiencing rising inflation, prompting the European Central Bank to consider tighter monetary policy to stabilize prices. At the same time, the European Union is responding to increasing competitive pressure from China across key industries. In East Asia, artificial intelligence is emerging as a major driver of economic growth, boosting productivity and reshaping regional economic momentum.

‘Threatening maritime traffic’: US military shoots down Iranian drones in Hormuz

Why the world’s most powerful military has not been able to decisively break Iran lies in a mix of asymmetric warfare, geography, and strategic resilience. Despite sustained US-led strikes on Iranian infrastructure and military assets, Tehran continues to maintain operational missile and drone capabilities, disrupt key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz, and avoid political collapse. Analysts say Iran’s decentralized defence structure and regional leverage make it difficult for conventional military power alone to achieve decisive results.

Why World's Most Powerful Military Failed to Break Iran?

The US military says it has shot down four Iranian "one-way attack drones" launched toward the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the drones "posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic".

US forces "subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to defend against further attacks", US Central Command (Centcom) said in a statement.

'The ball is in Trump's court': Iran says negotiations hit impasse over $24 billion in frozen assets

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that Tehran possesses a "great deal of evidence" suggesting that operations against Iran were conducted from the territory of the United Arab Emirates. The allegation comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing scrutiny of the role played by Gulf states during the recent conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

While Iran has accused the UAE of facilitating or supporting hostile actions, Abu Dhabi has repeatedly rejected such claims and insists that its security and defense partnerships are a sovereign matter.
