With the MI team management not bidding for a lot of players from resigning Ishan Kishan for a whopping price, at INR 157.5 million on Saturday (February 12), many eyebrows were raised.

While the MI fans were surprised with the team's strategy, the former champions went for England pacer Archer, who had represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) since his debut season in 2018. For the unversed, Archer is highly unlikely to&nbsp;be available for the forthcoming IPL 2022 edition, in India, however, the MI Paltan have invested in him keeping the future seasons in mind.&nbsp;

Later, the IPL confirmed that Edmeades “had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension,” and confirmed that he remains stable. Thus, he was replaced by broadcaster Charu Sharma, who continues to remain the auctioneer for the remainder of the two-day mega auction as Edmeades remains on recovery mode.

He recently revealed the call from the IPL chairman on how he was offered&nbsp;to quickly turn up and replace Edmeades.&nbsp;“I don’t live too far from the hotel. So Brijesh called me and said, ‘just put on some clothes and run’… I was there in just 15-20 minutes. They briefed me for a bit and then we were on,” Sharma told&nbsp;Sportstar.

Liam Livingstone made heads turn as he has become the costliest overseas buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction. On the second and final day, the English all-rounder was in huge demand when commentator-turned-auctioneer Charu Sharma announced his name in the middle. As a result, as many as five franchises showed interest in him before he finally went to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping INR 115 million (INR 11.5 crore).

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Lions (GL), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and PBKS joined the intense bidding war to acquire the services of the 28-year-old all-rounder before Livingstone finally joined the 2014 edition's runners-up. In recent times, Livingstone has made a good name for himself owing to his power-hitting skills, handy off-spin and being a gun fielder.&nbsp;

Livingstone has a strike-rate of&nbsp;158.33 for England in the shortest format. In IPL, he has played only 9 games -- for Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2019-2021 edition -- and strikes at&nbsp;125.84. He is yet to take a wicket in the cash-rich league.

On the other hand, PBKS also made another handy buy in the form of West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith, who made handy contributions with the bat and ball in the recently-concluded India-Windies ODIs. Smith went to the franchise at INR 28 million (INR 2.8 crore).&nbsp;

However, the four-time champions once again showed faith in experience over youth as they bought back Robin Uthappa and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for a sum of Rs 2 crore (INR 20 million) and Rs 4.4 crore (INR 440 million) respectively.

CSK then managed to bring back experienced Indian batter Ambati Rayudu, who was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. CSK spent Rs 6.75 crore (INR 67.5 million) to secure Rayudu's services for the upcoming season. CSK then went on to make Indian pacer Deepak Chahar their most expensive signing in IPL history.

Less than 24 hours are left for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction to get underway in Bengaluru. The two-day event will be held on February 12 and 13 with all ten teams looking to rope in the best of talents from across the globe. As many as 590 players are set to go under the hammer at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

This year's mega auction will see the debut of the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, which are the two new teams to have been introduced to the IPL roster from the 2022 season. While the existing eight teams had been given an option to retain a maximum of four players each, the two new teams were allowed to pick at least three players from the players draft ahead of the mega auction.

All ten teams have been given a total purse of Rs 90 crore (INR 900 million) to&nbsp;spend at the mega auction and have to build their respective squads within the allotted budget. While some teams have retained four players, spending a sum of Rs 42 crore in total, some have retained only three players and have spent a lesser amount.

KKR now have Rs 48 crore (INR 480 million) remaining in their purse heading into the mega auction next month and their focus will be on finding replacements for the likes of Russell and Narine in case of injuries to the star all-rounders. KKR will also be looking to build a strong squad that can take them over the finishing line after losing in the final lats year.

"Certainly not easy to find a backup for someone like Andre Russell and that's why he is such an important re-signing. When he is at his best, he is effectively two world-class players in one. It's really challenging to find a backup for these players. That will be the topic of our conversation. If Dre Russ is out due to injury, you could need two players, a batter and a bowler, and try to balance things out accordingly," McCullum added.

Eoin Morgan to Jonny Bairstow: Complete List of players with base price of Rs 1.5cr at IPL mega auction

Several star players have decided to skip the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction and will not be part of the next edition of the tournament. The likes of Mitchell Starc, Ben Stokes, Chris Gayle and Jofra Archer among others have not registered to be part of the mega auction, confirming that they will give IPL 2022 a miss.

England all-rounder Sam Curran has also not registered for the mega auction and is all set to miss out on playing in IPL 2022. While most of these players have opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons or bio-bubble fatigue, Curran has decided to not take part in the mega auction owing to his recovery from a lower-back injury.

Curran was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL 2021 and managed to play only nine games before his campaign was cut short due to his injury. Curran had scored 56 runs and picked up 9 wickets in what was an average campaign for him last season. He was subsequently ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2021 and also missed the Ashes 2021-22 in Australia due to his injury.

Curran took to Twitter on Saturday to reveal he had decided to give IPL 2022 a miss to focus on his rehab after recovering from injury. He had recently hit the nets for the first time in three months and is preparing for the county season with Surrey.

"It was agreed that sadly I should not enter the IPL auction this year and to focus on my rehabilitation. I’m back in the nets and feeling great so hope to be back soon, Wishing everyone all the best for the tournament. I look forward to starting the season with @surreycricket," Curran wrote in a tweet.

The IPL 2022 mega auction will see new franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, entering the bandwagon with multiple reports suggesting the event could take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. 
 
It means that the two-day mega auction will see 10 teams bidding for some of the finest talents in the cricketing world. In terms of international exposure, the players' list incorporates 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 players from associate nations. 
 
On the further breakdown of the list, 61 are capped Indian players while 209 are capped&nbsp;international cricketers. 143 players are uncapped Indians who were a part of previous IPL seasons, while six players are uncapped internationals who were a part of previous IPL seasons. 
 
In terms of uncapped players, 692 players from India and 62 international players have registered themselves. 
 
From the 318 overseas players on the long list, spread across 18 countries, Australia leads with 59 players followed by 48 from South Africa, 41 from West Indies, 36 from Sri Lanka, 30 from England, 29 from New Zealand, 20 from Afghanistan, 15 from Nepal and 14 from USA. 
 
Other nations whose cricketers have registered for the IPL 2022 player auctions are Bangladesh (nine), Namibia (five), Oman and Ireland (three each), Zimbabwe (two), Bhutan, Netherlands, Scotland and the UAE (one each). 
 
If every franchise&nbsp;were to have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 217 players will be taken in the auction (of which up to 70 may be overseas players).
