On Day 2 of the IPL 2022 mega auction, Jofra Archer went to the five-time winners Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday evening (February 13). With the MI team management not bidding for a lot of players from resigning Ishan Kishan for a whopping price, at INR 157.5 million on Saturday (February 12), many eyebrows were raised.

While the MI fans were surprised with the team's strategy, the former champions went for England pacer Archer, who had represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) since his debut season in 2018. For the unversed, Archer is highly unlikely to be available for the forthcoming IPL 2022 edition, in India, however, the MI Paltan have invested in him keeping the future seasons in mind.

With Archer's name attracting several players, despite injury concerns, franchises such as RR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also joined the bidding war before Rohit & Co. had the last laugh by signing the wily pacer for INR 80 million (INR 8 crore). The bidding war even surprised Archer:

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) broke the bank as they went all out to get back Indian pacer Deepak Chahar at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on Saturday (February 12). CSK spent a record-breaking amount of Rs 14 crore (INR 140 million) to make Chahar their most expensive pick in the history of IPL auction.

Chahar, who has been an integral member of the CSK squad since joining the four-time champions in 2018, said he was always confident of getting picked by the Men in Yellow. Chahar, however, insisted he never spoke with the team management or CSK skipper MS Dhoni about being retained by the franchise ahead of the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction.

Chahar was released by CSK ahead of the mega auction as the franchise decided to retain Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, he was bought back by the Dhoni-led side, who went all out to ensure no other team could match their bid for the Indian pacer.

"I am really happy to be back in Chennai Super Kings. I don't think there will be any difference. When I go back, I will be seeing the same faces over the last 4 years, maybe over the last 6 years because I was with the Pune side and half the players were there. I could not have asked for a better auction than this," Chahar told Star Sports on Sunday.

Chahar has been one of the reliable bowlers for Dhoni at CSK and has been used as a major weapon in the powerplay by the CSK skipper. Chahar has been brilliant with the new ball and has more often than not provided CSK with important breakthroughs up top. He has so far played 63 IPL matches and has 59 wickets to his name.

While Chahar revealed he never had any discussion with Dhoni or the CSK management about being retained, he recalled an incident from 2018 when CSK owner N Srinivasan had assured him that he will always play for CSK.

"I took his word that day and after that, I have never spoken about retention or anything. Before the auction also, I didn't speak anything. I knew that CSK would pick me," Chahar said.

Apart from bringing Chahar back in the side, CSK also managed to rope in a number of former players like Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa and Mitchell Santner at the IPL mega auction.

Kuldeep Yadav wasn't retained by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before the IPL 2022 mega auction. On Day 1 of the mega auction, being held in Bengaluru, the 27-year-old was sold to the Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 20 million (INR 2 crore).

Kuldeep debuted in the IPL in 2016, representing the then Gautam Gambhir-led KKR unit. Under KKR, Kuldeep remained a mainstay till the 12th edition in 2018, however, his stocks went down since the IPL 2019 season. He played only 9 games in IPL 2019 whereas featured in only five encounters for the Kolkata-based franchise in the last two seasons. In the 2021 edition, he was ruled out due to injury.

Thus, the Rishabh Pant-led DC camp acquired his services for the IPL 2022 edition during the opening day of the mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday (February 12). After getting Kuldeep for INR 20 million, with his base price being INR 10 million, DC co-owner Parth Jindal took a dig at the KKR team management for not valuing Kuldeep's talent in the last few seasons.

England batter Liam Livingstone turned out to be the most expensive overseas buy at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on Sunday (February 13). Punjab Kings (PBKS) shelled out a whopping Rs 11.50 crore (INR 115 million) to rope in the England star, who is known for his big-hitting ability and can also be a handy leg-spinner.

Livingstone triggered a bidding war between the teams as soon as his name was announced at the mega auction on Sunday. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders were locked in a battle for the England star before Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings joined the bidding war. Punjab eventually managed to get the England star for Rs 11.5 crore.

While social media was full of reactions over the move as many lauded Punjab for roping in the hard-hitting English batter, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar labelled the signing a 'gamble'. Manjrekar pointed out Livingstone's struggles in the IPL last season when he was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad.

Livingstone played five matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 and managed to score only 42 runs. He was dropped from the side after a series of disappointing performances before being brought back but failed to showcase his skills and talent in the league.

Manjrekar said Livingstone was a gamble considering the price he went at and his past performance do not instil much confidence. While he praised the Royals for making some great signings at the IPL 2022 mega auction, he insisted Livingstone was a gamble.

"Before the auction, I said that one of the best performers in the auction have been Punjab Kings. They have got some significant players, Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, Harpreet Brar was a great selection. They have retained Arshdeep which is a great decision. They have got Rabada and they have got Rahul Chahar. These are formidable proven IPL talents. They had a lot of money left as they didn't spend a lot on their above-mentioned picks," Manjrekar told Star Sports.

"I still maintain that Liam Livingstone is a gamble, considering his previous IPL experience. Odeon Smith is a story that we have seen many times before. Owners get excited about the talent that they see outside and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't," said Manjrekar on Star Sports.

"I was very gung-ho out Liam Livingstone after seeing him play for England against India. I thought he is some guy who will do good in the IPL, he is good against spin and a good bowler as well. But then he had around 6-7 failures for Rajasthan Royals. He was dropped and then brought back. But he just couldn't get back to form.

"That I thought will come into play. i always believe in backing proven materials. He had struggled in the IPL last year. I was a little surprised by the optimism that a lot of teams had for Liam Livingstone. IPL is a unique tournament, the pressure is high and the performances in the other parts of the world don't have a lot of bearing on the buys," he added.

He had struggled in the IPL last year. I was a little surprised by the optimism that a lot of teams had for Liam Livingstone. IPL is a unique tournament, the pressure is high and the performances in the other parts of the world don't have a lot of bearing on the buys," he added.

On Saturday (February 12), a freakish incident took place during Day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed on the stage mid-way through the bidding for Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, who eventually went to Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 107.5 million (INR 10.75 crore).

Later, the IPL confirmed that Edmeades “had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension,” and confirmed that he remains stable. Thus, he was replaced by broadcaster Charu Sharma, who continues to remain the auctioneer for the remainder of the two-day mega auction as Edmeades remains on recovery mode.

Delhi Capitals (DC) made some shrewd buys on day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. Delhi Capitals managed to get some of their targets for reasonable prices and refrained from spending too much on big players. However, the franchise had to let go of some of their former stars, who they failed to get back at the mega auction.

Delhi Capitals had to let go of their former captain Shreyas Iyer and the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and R Ashwin in the very first set of players that went under the hammer at the mega auction on Saturday. However, DC did manage to make some brilliant signings in the form of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.

While Delhi Capitals got Warner for a sum of Rs 6.25 crore (INR 62.5 million), they had to shell out Rs 6.5 crore (INR 65 million) for the services of Marsh. Delhi Capitals then went on to make some shrewd signings as they roped in the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav and KS Bharat for Rs 2 crore (INR 20 million) each.

However, Delhi Capitals missed out on another important former player later in the day as Indian pacer Avesh Khan triggered a bidding war at the mega auction. A number of teams jumped in the battle for Avesh, who was the second-highest wicket-taker of IPL 2021 with 24 wickets in 16 matches.

Though Delhi Capitals were interested in getting the Indian pacer back, they were outdone by the other franchises. Lucknow Super Giants eventually managed to get Avesh for a whopping sum of Rs 10 crore (INR 100 million). Delhi Capitals co-owner revealed Avesh was one player captain Rishabh Pant wanted the team to buy back at the auction.

Jindal said he was quite happy with the work done by the team on day one of the IPL 2022 mega auction. However, he revealed Pant really wanted Avesh, who went out of the team's budget during the bidding war.

"Yeah, I think, very satisfied [how the squad has shaped up till now]. I think we have a very good balance. We filled up most of our starting XI spots, we have a little bit of work to do going into tomorrow especially in the back-ups and making sure that we have a very good and solid squad. But overall I think we have some really really sensational players to compliment the four retained players," Jindal said talking to DCTV.

"I have been in touch with Rishabh, he is also really happy with most of the squad. Although he did really want Avesh Khan, we tried but again it went way beyond our budget but I think we have a very good squad that can challenge for the playoffs and hopefully go better," he added.

Liam Livingstone made heads turn as he has become the costliest overseas buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction. On the second and final day, the English all-rounder was in huge demand when commentator-turned-auctioneer Charu Sharma announced his name in the middle. As a result, as many as five franchises showed interest in him before he finally went to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping INR 115 million (INR 11.5 crore).

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Lions (GL), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and PBKS joined the intense bidding war to acquire the services of the 28-year-old all-rounder before Livingstone finally joined the 2014 edition's runners-up. In recent times, Livingstone has made a good name for himself owing to his power-hitting skills, handy off-spin and being a gun fielder.

Livingstone has a strike-rate of 158.33 for England in the shortest format. In IPL, he has played only 9 games -- for Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2019-2021 edition -- and strikes at 125.84. He is yet to take a wicket in the cash-rich league.

Jasprit Bumrah's cryptic tweet goes viral after fast bowlers earn big at IPL 2022 mega auction

The opening day of the IPL 2022 mega auction made heads turn as a lot of action and drama took place during the auction proceedings, being held in Bengaluru. A lot of marquee players were sold for a whopping price, such as Ishan Kishan, Jason Holder, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer, etc., whereas some popular players failed to draw a single bid.

After the end of Day 1 of the mega auction, Suresh Raina, Adil Rashid, Mohammad Nabi, Umesh Yadav, etc. made the list of unsold players. Thus, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh felt strange to see someone like Umesh, a regular member of India's side (in Tests), go unsold.

Speaking to India Today after the end of Day 1 of the auction, Harbhajan opined, "It is very strange sort of thing for me to see someone like Umesh Yadav, who has been playing cricket for so many years and been a consistent member of the Indian cricket team. It's sad that someone did not pick their name at the auction."

"For me, it was a sad sort of moment of the auction. But I feel he will have a chance tomorrow. Some team will go for him. But not too sure for Raina as he hardly plays any cricket. Of course, he has been a very consistent member of the Chennai Super Kings and known as Mr. IPL. It is so sad when you see Umesh and Raina not getting a bid. Maybe CSK might buy him tomorrow but it will not be the same thing as you want to get picked in the first round itself. It was a sad sight of the IPL. This is how you reflect on time,” he further added.

Umesh has represented the likes of Delhi Capitals (DC) -- then known as Delhi Daredevils (DD), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and has accounted for 119 scalps.

Avesh Khan, who had a memorable run for the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021, has made heads turn by becoming the highest-ever uncapped player during Day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction, being held in Bengaluru on Saturday (February 12). He, thus, went past K Gowtham’s 9.25 cr in 2021 (CSK) to create a new record among uncapped players.

When broadcaster Charu Sharma announced the players from the uncapped list, Avesh's name attracted quite a lot of franchises as he saw several teams bidding for him. The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai Indians (MI) and the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were engaged in an intense bidding war for the 25-year-old pacer, who eventually went to the KL Rahul-led Lucknow franchise for a whopping price of INR 100 million (INR 10 crore).

For the unversed, Avesh had a breath-through season in IPL 2021 edition, accounting for a total of 24 wickets -- second-most overall -- at an average of 18.75. He, thus, played a key role in taking Pant & Co. to the playoffs. He, however, wasn't retained by Delhi camp as they went ahead and retained Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje.

DC, surprisingly, also didn't bid for Avesh; having already invested a huge sum on several players.

IPL 2022 mega auction: Avesh Khan becomes highest-ever uncapped pick, sold for Rs 10 crore

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a pretty quiet day at the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction on Saturday as the franchise remained content by focusing on buying their old players back. CSK went after a host of their former players and managed to get them back on day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.

A lot of eyes were on CSK ahead of the start of the mega auction as they were expected to revamp their squad ahead of the start of the new season. However, the four-time champions once again showed faith in experience over youth as they bought back Robin Uthappa and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for a sum of Rs 2 crore (INR 20 million) and Rs 4.4 crore (INR 440 million) respectively.

CSK then managed to bring back experienced Indian batter Ambati Rayudu, who was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. CSK spent Rs 6.75 crore (INR 67.5 million) to secure Rayudu's services for the upcoming season. CSK then went on to make Indian pacer Deepak Chahar their most expensive signing in IPL history.

Chahar, who has been an integral part of the CSK setup since joining the side in 2018, saw his price rise from his base price of Rs 2 crore to a whopping Rs 14 crore (INR 140 million) at the mega auction. CSK beat the likes of Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad to the signing of Chahar.

As CSK kept going after their former players and managed to get them back, Delhi Capitals (DC) came up with a hilarious tweet to troll the four-time IPL champions. DC shared a Bollywood inspired meme to take a dig at CSK. "Kuch bhi nahi badla yar aaj bhi sab kuch waise ka waisa hi hai (Nothing has changed mate, everything is still the same)," read the meme.

"Kuch bhi nahi badla yar aaj bhi sab kuch waise ka waisa hi hai (Nothing has changed mate, everything is still the same)," read the meme. .@ChennaiIPL after every #IPLAuction pic.twitter.com/T7G2zQJA96 — Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) February 12, 2022 × Also Read: Insane! After roping in South African batter Faf du Plessis for a sum of Rs 7 crore (INR 70 million), RCB went big when Patel's name was announced at the mega auction. They managed to beat competition from the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to get Harshal back.

The 31-year-old pacer, who made his international debut for India in November last year, was the Purple Cap winner in IPl 2021 for being the highest wicket-taker of the season with 32 wickets in 15 matches for RCB. He saw his stakes rise dramatically at the mega auction this year after opting for a base price of Rs 2 crore (INR 20 million).

Patel was roped in by Delhi Capitals at his base price of just Rs 20 lakh (INR 2 million) in the IPL auction in 2018. He was traded to RCB ahead of the start of IPL 2021 last year where he bowled his heart out in what turned out to be a record-breaking campaign for the right-arm pacer.

The IPL 2022 mega auction has started with a bang. The first slot featured the marquee players, such as David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, etc. Rajasthan Royals -- the winners of the inaugural season -- came into the mega auction with INR 620 million and have roped in the likes of R Ashwin (INR 50 million) and Trent Boult (INR 80 million) whereas David Warner has rejoined his first-ever IPL franchise, i.e. Delhi Capitals (DC), for INR 62.5 million.

Warner, who represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2014-2021, wasn't retained by the Orange Army ahead of the mega auction proceedings in Bengaluru. His fallout with the SRH team management was a big talking point in the previous season and, hence, Delhi made the most of it to re-buy the Aussie left-hander. Warner is the fifth-highest run-getter in IPL history, with 5,449 runs at 41.59 along with a strike-rate of 139.96. He had earlier represented the Delhi camp -- when they were known as the Delhi Daredevils (DD) -- from 2009 to 2013.

Ashwin, on the other hand, has found a new base. Starting from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to captaining the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and moving to the DC camp, Ashwin will now represent the RR camp. Meanwhile, Boult -- who played a key role in Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians' (MI) title-win in 2020 season -- has also joined Ashwin in the RR setup.

Both Ashwin and Boult will look to assist the young RR captain Sanju Samson in the IPL 2022 edition, to be held in India in March-May. Ashwin has 145 scalps whereas the New Zealander has accounted for 76 wickets in 62 IPL games.

Du Plessis was the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 with 633 runs from 16 matches at an average of over 45 and a strike rate of 138.20. Du Plessis will bring a lot of stability and consistency to the RCB batting line-up. He is confirmed to play as an opener for the side and might also be a strong contender to replace Virat Kohli as the new captain of the team.

Du Plessis has been a consistent performer in the IPL over the years and has so far amassed 2935 runs in 100 matches in the league. The senior South Africa batter will also be a great replacement for AB de Villiers, an RCB legend, who retired from all forms of the game recently.

It remains to be seen if RCB, who are looking for a new skipper after Kohli's decision to step down as the captain of the side last year, will hand over the captaincy responsibilities to Du Plessis, who is an experienced campaigner and has won several major trophies in his T20 career.

IPL 2022: Mandatory rules laid down by BCCI for all 10 franchises at mega auction

Richard Madley remains a popular name among IPL fans. Madley took care of the IPL auction for ten years since the inaugural season, in 2008, and recently spilled the beans on how MS Dhoni led to a bidding war among the eight IPL franchises.

Back then, Dhoni had just won Team India the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup title as captain. Thus, he was making heads turn across the cricketing fraternity and was in huge demand due to his power-hitting skills. Thus, Madley recalled how the former Indian keeper-batter led to a huge bidding war in the inaugural auction during a freewheeling conversation with veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Speaking to spin wizard Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, Madley first shared how the former Aussie spinner Shane Warner was sold to Rajasthan Royals (RR) at his base price in 2008. "I remember the second player coming out of the bag that day was Shane Warne. I thought okay here's Warnie and this will be interesting, his base price was I think around 400000 US dollars. That's what he sold for at his base price to Rajasthan Royals and I thought at that time that was a smart move," Madley said.

He then shifted focus on Dhoni and added, "For the next 10 years, I watched Rajasthan Royals be the coolest bidders in the room. They never got excited, Manoj Badale was just cool and a pattern started to emerge. Then out of the bag came the man himself, the ultimate all-rounder Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and there we saw the first bidding war of many in the IPL auctions."

Dhoni has represented the CSK franchise in every IPL season, sans the 2016 and 2017 editions when the Yellow Army was serving a two-year-suspension period due to the spot-fixing saga. Since their return, Dhoni has led the franchise to two more trophies (four overall) as the popular franchise is gearing up to defend their title in the forthcoming IPL 2022 edition.

Richard Madley recalls bidding war for MS Dhoni during inaugural IPL auction in 2008

The IPL 2022 mega auction is just a few days away. The excitement among the ardent IPL fans is on another level as the mega auction returns after four long years. With the addition of two new more teams, in the form of Ahmedabad and Lucknow, all eyes are on how the new franchises will form their sides from scratch whereas it will be interesting to see how the eight old teams revamp and re-build after releasing some key players.

Among the non-retained players, the likes of David Warner, Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, etc. are set to go under the radar. Ahead of the mega auction, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has made a bold revelation, saying that Iyer is set to be the most expensive player and Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have kept a whopping amount aside for him.

Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel, “Shreyas Iyer could be a potential captain of KKR or RCB. I don't think Punjab would be looking at him."

He further opined, "Someone told me that RCB has kept 20cr (INR 200 million) for Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The most expensive player, to be very honest, is going to be Shreyas Iyer. In this list, the most expensive will be Iyer because Ishan Kishan is not there. If Ishan was there, there could've been a tug of war. For the foreign players, Chopra added, “The three most expensive overseas players will be Rabada, and then one of Quinton de Kock or David Warner will be the most expensive overseas player as well. There's a good possibility."

The most expensive player, to be very honest, is going to be Shreyas Iyer. In this list, the most expensive will be Iyer because Ishan Kishan is not there. 2008 was a landmark year for Indian cricket. The inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season was held early in the year, on February 20. Back then, India's U-19 team was involved in the Junior Men's World Cup in Malaysia under Virat Kohli's captaincy.

Kohli-led India won the mega title, beating South Africa in DLS method, on March 2. However, a bunch of them had already made heads turn during the inaugural IPL auction, being picked by the eight franchises for staggering amounts. Kohli's home franchise, Delhi Capitals (DC) -- who were then known as Delhi Daredevils (DD) -- were keen to pick him but instead chose pacer Pradeep Sangwan, who was also a part of the then Kohli-led U-19 squad.

In a podcast shared by RCB, Kohli recenlly recalled not being picked by his local franchise and how the U-19 players went bonkers after knowing the amount for which they were picked.

I remember the day when the drafts were happening and the U-19 dynamic was different as we very rightly so had a money cap. That was the only time when I saw a restriction on how much could you be picked for, if you haven't played for India. I remember even that moment for us was so amazing. The amount that we were picked for, when they revealed, we were like, we couldn't believe it, we went absolutely crazy."

Kohli, who stepped down as the RCB captain after IPL 2021, also shared how DC bought Sangwan whereas he was picked by the Bengaluru-based franchise, defining it as a 'life-changing moment' for him.

The 33-year-old further asserted, "There was one conversation where I heard from people that the Delhi team was interested to go after me but the dynamics of their team turned out to be such that they went for Pradeep Sangwan - who was a left-arm seamer, amazing bowler, at that time he was our best bowler in U-19. So Delhi decided to go for him because they wanted their bowling strengthened and RCB picked me. In hindsight, I feel it was such an important moment in my life. I didn't realize it then but now when I look back, things could have been very different to what they are now. I would not have it any other way than this."

To date, Kohli remains the only player to have played for a single franchise -- RCB -- since IPL's inception in 2008. He has been retained by the three-time runners-up, along with Glenn Maxwell and Md Siraj, before the IPL 2022 mega auction, set to take place on February 12 and 13.

Kohli opens up on Delhi franchise's decision to choose Pradeep Sangwan over him in maiden IPL auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction is keenly awaited. The two-day affair will be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Ahead of the marquee event, all eyes are on the non-retained players. A lot of big-ticket players such as David Warner, R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Steve Smith, etc. will make heads turn in the forthcoming auction proceedings.

Ahead of the mega auction, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined on David Warner and mentioned which franchise will buy his services. As of now, there are three teams who are looking for a captain. The three franchises in search of a captain are Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Chopra feels Warner's fallout with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), in IPL 2021, will be a key factor on him missing out on captaincy role despite being a proven leader and only one of the few foreign captains to have won the coveted trophy (for SRH in 2016).

Chopra said on his Youtube channel, "They can think about it but in my opinion, they will not make him the captain. I believe David Warner will not become the captain of any team although three teams are probably looking for a skipper. Even if we leave out Punjab, still two teams are looking for a captain."

"He will definitely go to some team or the other. He will go expensive as well but no team will consider him as a captain, that is what I believe because IPL is a small family, everyone has got an idea what happened last year, what were the reasons and the problems. It hasn't really gone down very well amongst the players and the franchises," he explained.

In addition, Chopra named the franchise who can attain Warner's services in the forthcoming auction. "Whether he will be there in the team, he will go somewhere for sure. He might go to RCB. It's not a bad choice that Virat Kohli on one side and David Warner on the other, left-hand and right-hand, and both explosive."

Warner has been a big name in IPL history. Being the fifth-highest run-getter overall (5,449), he has had a terrific run in the cash-rich league since 2014. He surpassed the 500-run mark in all seasons for SRH from 2014-2020 but captaincy issues, slow strike-rate, fallout with the team management led to his ouster from the Hyderabad camp.

IPL 2022: Chopra explains why Warner will miss out on captaincy, names franchise who can buy him

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition is still over two months away. However, all eyes are on the mega auction, which is set to be held in mid-February in Bengaluru. The 15th edition is eagerly awaited as it will see two new teams joining the eight franchises, which also makes the forthcoming mega auction all the more important.

While the eight existing teams will face the challenge to revamp once again, the two new teams -- i.e. Lucknow and Ahmedabad -- will aim to create start from scratch and make the most of the auction proceedings. Ahead of the auction on February 12 and 13, Lucknow Super Giants' captain KL Rahul has lavished praise on Kagiso Rabada, who was not retained by the Delhi Capitals (DC), and hinted that the team management might aim to buy him.

Come on, he bowls over 145kph and is a very smart cricketer. Everyone would want someone like that," said Rahul about the South African pace spearhead on India Today.

Rahul also heaped praise on Marco Jansen and Rassie van der Dussen, who made heads turn with their performances in the India-SA series, in the rainbow nation. "Marco Jansen played a few games for Mumbai Indians but he has come of his own now. He had a really good series with the red ball (during the India Test series in the African nation) and that makes a little bit of a difference with how people see him. He is someone who will do really well in international cricket with the red ball. We all spoke about it after the series as well that he is going to be the next big thing in international cricket," opined Rahul.

"Van der Dussen has been performing phenomenally and is someone who plays spin really well. That is key and a very important thing that a franchise looks at when you are picking a foreign batter. We play the IPL in India and teams tend to use a lot of spinners in the middle overs so you need to be a good player of spin to get into an IPL team," added Rahul.

'Everyone wants someone like him' - Lucknow captain KL Rahul eyes star foreign player ahead of IPL auction

The Ahmedabad Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise revealed their final three picks from the players draft ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction on Friday (January 21). The Ahmedabad IPL franchise has roped in star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, ace spinner Rashid Khan and young India batter Shubman Gill ahead of the auction.

The two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad had been given the right to pick a maximum of three players each ahead of the mega auction after the existing eight teams revealed the list of the players retained by them. While Ahmedabad have picked Hardik, Rashid and Shubman, the Lucknow team has picked KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi.

The Ahmedabad franchise has picked Hardik and Rashid as their top players at the price of Rs 15 crore (INR 150 million) each. Shubman will be earning a staggering amount of Rs 8 crore (INR 80 million) per season with the team. While Hardik was part of the Mumbai Indians squad last season, Rashid and Shubman represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.

Hardik had made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2015 and played an instrumental role in their success over the years before his seven-year-long stint with the franchise ended this year. Hardik has been one of the best all-rounders in the league over the years with 1476 runs and 42 wickets in 92 IPL matches.

Rashid, on the other hand, made his IPL debut in 2017, had played only for Sunrisers Hyderabad till now and will be part of a new team from the upcoming season. Many had been left surprised when Rashid was not retained by the Sunrisers before it was revealed he wanted to be retained as the first-choice player for an amount of Rs 16 crore (INR 160 million).

However, SRH wanted their skipper Kane Williamson to be the first-choice retention. They went on to keep Williamson and released Rashid ahead of the mega auction. Rashid has been one of the best bowlers in the IPL since his debut in 2017 and has an impressive 93 wickets to his name in 76 IPL matches.

Gill too has played only for Kolkata Knight Riders so far in the IPL and will be playing for a new team first time this year. He was picked by KKR for a sum of Rs 1.8 crore (INR 18 million) ahead of IPL 2018 and has since made a name for himself with his consistent performance.

He will be now earning more than four times what he was at KKR with his Rs 8 crore (INR 80 million) contract with the Ahmedabad team. Gill has 1417 runs in 58 IPL matches. Former India head coach Gary Kirsten and former India pacer Ashish Nehra will be part of the team's backroom staff.
