Shikhar Dhawan-led India have locked horns with West Indies in the third and final ODI in Trinidad, on Wednesday (July 27). After taking an unassailable lead in the closely-fought series, Dhawan & Co. stand a chance to create history by achieveing India's maiden ODI series whitewash over the Windies in the Caribbean island.

Hence, many thought Ravindra Jadeja -- India's star all-rounder who was named Dhawan's deputy for the series -- would appear in the visitors' playing XI. Jadeja was ruled out of the first two games after sustaining an injury to his right knee. While there was an outside chance for him to play the series finale, the star all-rounder wasn't available for selection as he is still not a 100 percent and continues to be on recovery mode.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed, on Wednesday, that the medical team will continue to monitor Jaddu's progress. In his absence, India have been right on the money and taken a 2-0 lead. Jadeja's like-for-like replacement Axar Patel was the Player-of-the-Match in the second and penultimate tie, smashing an impressive 34-ball 65 not out in India's 312-run chase along with also claiming a wicket.

At the coin toss, Dhawan opted to bat first and told the broadcasters, "We will bat first. We will like to post a good score. The best thing is everything is performing, nice to see that. That's a big positive for us, happy with that. I feel that intent is important, but at the same time you need to be smart. Dravid is doing a good job, the more the players will play, the better they will get. We got one change. Prasidh comes in for Avesh Khan."

The ODIs will be followed by a five-match T20I series and Jadeja is expected to return to action by then. Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will join the side after being rested for the 50-over assignment.

WI vs IND, 3rd ODI: EXPLAINED! Why Ravindra Jadeja didn't make the cut in India's playing XI

Virat Kohli's dry run with the bat has left the whole nation disappointed. The former Indian captain last scored an international ton in late 2019 whereas he failed to touch the fifty-run mark throughout India's tour of England.

While Kohli isn't part of India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies, many former cricketers and experts continue to share their views on his indifferent run at the highest level. The latest to join the bandwagon is former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha. Ojha recently revealed the real reason behind head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma's relentless backing of an under-fire Kohli.

“When you talk about Virat Kohli, you have to understand the things he has achieved … they are not normal. Getting those 70 hundreds in a span of about 10 years is outstanding.

"Who are the other players who have done that? Not many. That is the reason why Rohit [Sharma], Rahul bhai [Dravid] and the team are backing him," Ojha pointed out while speaking to Jamie Alter on his Glance chat show, The Alternate View.

“They know that if he gets that one knock, things will turn around and suddenly you will see the old Virat Kohli. And when you have that Virat Kohli in your team and you’re going for the T20 World Cup and then the 50-overs World Cup, any team would do anything to get him. I think it’s just a matter of time," Ojha further asserted on Kohli's form.

“See, with cricket, it’s not about mathematics that two plus two is four. You will fail. That’s the beauty of sport. This is Virat Kohli we’re talking about. His conversion rate has been tremendous."

“When you look at Virat’s batting, it is not about the skill or that he’s not timing it well or his fitness has taken a beating. He’s just there, and I think better than others with his work ethic and discipline. The only thing is that maybe mentally he’s a little caught up somewhere. Maybe that’s why he’s been regularly taking breaks," said the former spinner, who is a veteran of 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and 6 T20Is.

Former India spinner reveals reason behind Rahul Dravid-Rohit Sharma's support for under-fire Virat Kohli

Indian cricket fans continue to be concerned for Virat Kohli as his form remains below par. The star India batter didn't touch the 50-run mark even once during the England tour whereas his century-drought continues since late 2019, in the pre-Covid era.

Despite no century for nearly three years, Kohli has still contributed for India with many vital knocks. However, the runs have dried down considerably from his willow of late. Even in IPL 2022, he struggled for his 341 runs, which came at a below-par strike rate of 115.98. While Kohli isn't part of India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies, after being rested, talks on his form and calls for his omission from the white-ball setup continue to make the headlines.

Recently, India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran opener Robin Uthappa backed Kohli and asked one and all to give him some space amid form concerns. "When he (Virat Kohli) was scoring runs, when he was hitting hundred after hundred, nobody said he should play like this or that. Now, I don't think we have any right to tell him how to play. He has scored 70 hundreds thanks to his own abilities and he will score another 30 or 35 also on his own abilities," Uthappa said while speaking on ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session.

"We need to just leave him alone and let him play cricket. He knows what works best for him and I believe once he acknowledges his problem, he will be able to sort it out on his own. All we need to do is give him space to be himself," he mentioned.

Uthappa also opined on Kohli being rested for the WI tour, despite his poor run of form. In this regard, the 36-year-old T20 World Cup winner added, "If he feels it is fit for him to take a break, then he can take a break. If he feels he has to play a certain series or tournament, allow him to play. Don't bring his spot into question. He is a match-winner, one of the proven match-winners and he is the best in the world. We have no right and authority or no ground to stand on and question his ability to win matches or question his position in our team."

No one has right to question Virat Kohli's position in Team India, says CSK opener Robin Uthappa

Shkhar Dhawan-led India have been phenomenal in the opening two ODIs versus hosts West Indies. While the series has been a closely-fought one so far, the second-stringed Indian team has remained calm and composed in crunch situations to edge past West Indies in the first two games.

While the Men In Blue have won several series against the Men in Maroon, they have never managed to whitewash West Indies in an ODI series that features three or more matches away from home. In their 2019 tour, they won all games but the first ODI was washed out without a ball being bowled.

Thus, India can attain a huge feat with their maiden ODI series whitewash over WI away from home, 13t 50-over series clean sweep overall. So far, India have attained series wins over Zimbabwe in 2013, 2015, and 2016 and against Sri Lanka, in the latter half of 2017.

After India's two-wicket win over WI in the second ODI, a jubilant stand-in captain Dhawan had said at the post-match presentation, "It was a great team performance. Boys didn't lose the self-belief, that is amazing. Iyer, Sanju, Axar everyone was amazing, Even Avesh came out in his debut game and scored those 11 important runs. Thanks to IPL, they perform on a huge stage. I felt that we bowled nicely. They got off to a good start. Hope and Pooran batted well. We thought if they could do it, we knew that we could do it. We started a little slow. Shubman batted well. The Iyer-Samson partnership made a huge difference. There was a run-out. But these things happen. Boys are learning. Thanks to the support staff as well. They have been doing a tremendous job."

Ahead of the five T20Is, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has backed a rising Indian talent to make it to the T20 WC and Asia Cup squads. "Mark my words. Arshdeep will play the third ODI and make an impact too. Arshdeep has the art, and he uses his mind while bowling. He bowls sensibly and knows how to take wickets. He can be a fantastic option for the Indian team for T20 World Cup and maybe for Asia Cup as well. Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and he can be successful being a left-arm pacer,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“I want to also see Natarajan playing for India again. He can make an impact just like he did in Australia. He is a fantastic bowler, but India has currently got an incredible bowling lot. Team management has to decide how to utilize its bowlers,” Kaneria further added.

Arshdeep made his international debut during the India-England three-match T20I series opener, in Southampton early this month. 'Fantastic option': Former Pakistan cricketer backs young Indian player for T20 WC & Asia Cup squads

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has lauded Team India's youngsters after the Men in Blue's two-wicket win over West Indies in the second and penultimate ODI, held on Sunday (July 24) in Trinidad. With another win on the trot, India have also taken an unassailable 2-0 lead over the Nichoas Pooran-led hosts and will now aim for a series whitewash in the final ODI, on Wednesday (July 27).

Talking about the likes of Shreyas Iyer (63), Sanju Samson (54), Player-of-the-Match Axar Patel, etc., Kaneria lavished huge praise on the Rahul Dravid-coached Indian team's younger brigade and termed them 'serious match-winners'. India were in a tricky position in pursuit of 312 versus the Windies, being 79/3 and then in a tight spot at 256/6, but half-centurions Sanju, Iyer and Axar's late blitz (64 not out off 35 balls) took the visitors past the finish line.

This is a big thing. The lot that is coming into Indian cricket are serious match-winners - be it bowlers, all-rounders or finishers. They put an extra topping on the flavor."

"In absence of big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah among many others, these boys have won overseas. Be it an A, B or C team, when you go overseas, conditions are against you. Hats off to the young team. Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy has been admirable. WI vs IND: The lot are serious match-winners, says former Pakistan spinner on Men in Blue's young brigade

Shikhar Dhawan-led India faced West Indies in the second and penultimate ODI, in Trinidad, on Sunday (July 24). With a 1-0 lead, India were eager to close the three-match series and managed to do the same after another last-over thriller played between both sides.

After Nicholas Pooran-led Windies opted to bat first, Shai Hope's 115 and Pooran's fifty propelled the home side to a challenging 311/6. In reply, India were in a spot of bother at 79/3 before half-centurions Sanju Samson-Shreyas Iyer's 99-run fourth-wicket stand revived the run-chase. From thereon, the Men in Blue once again lost the plot and kept conceding wickets at regular intervals.

At 256-6, the onus fell on all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel. While the former departed for 3, Axar's career-best 64 not out, off 35 balls studded with 5 sixes, took India past the finish line with two balls and equal number of wickets in hand.

WI vs IND, 2nd ODI: 'Dravid was getting tensed...' - Iyer on dressing room atmosphere in visitors' run-chase

Axar Patel was the Player-of-the-Match as Shikhar Dhawan-led Team India came from behind to beat West Indies in the second and penultimate ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the second and penultimate match, on Sunday (July 24).

Chasing 312, after hosts opted to bat first, India were in a spot of bother. From 48 for no loss, Dhawan & Co. were 79/3 before Sanju Samson (54) - Shreyas Iyer (63)'s 99-run fourth-wicket stand kept India in the hunt. Losing Samson, Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Shardul Thakur, the onus fell on all-rounder Axar, who had to bat deep with the tailenders to take the visitors home.

Axar (who had also claimed a wicket in the match) was up for the challenge and his career-best 64-run unbeaten knock stunned the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies as India chased down the target in the last over, with two balls to spare, by two wickets. Here's the spin-bowling all-rounder's classy knock, off just 35 balls which comprised 5 sixes and 3 fours:

India are set to host South Africa and Australia for three T20Is each before heading to the forthcoming T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November. BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly confirmed the development after the board's Apex Council on Thursday (July 21).

Virat Kohli-led India had a disastrous campaign in last year's T20 World Cup, held in the UAE. Hence, the board is keen to leave no stone unturned this time around to ensure Men in Blue's success in the upcoming showpiece event Down Under. Hence, two more home series have been confirmed now in the shortest format in the run-up to the marquee tournament.

"We will host SA and Australia for three T20Is each before going for the T20 World Cup. South Africa will come to India after concluding their ongoing England tour (in September). All those venues which didn’t get to stage a game against SA- Ranchi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Indore, Mohali- will host T20Is against SA and Australia,” Ganguly told the media.

Virat Kohli's forms struggles remains the talk of the cricketing fraternity. While Kohli's century-drought continues since late 2019, he even failed to score a fifty across formats in the England tour. Thus, the BCCI selection committee have given Kohli some time off during India's white-ball tour of West Indies, which gets underway on July 22.

Even though Kohli will be out of action and is expected to return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the 2022 Asia Cup, in late August, former cricketers and experts continue to shed light on the former Indian skipper's poor run of form. Dilip Vengsarkar, India's former captain and chief selector, opened up in this regard and cited Sachin Tendulkar's example while mentioning how Kohli can tackle playing the balls outside off-stump line.

"If you take the example of Sachin Tendulkar in 2004, he was getting out in the same way in Australia. So, he cut off that scoring area completely and scored 241 in the last Test match of that series without playing the cover drive. Similarly, Virat also has the ability to do the same. He needs to work hard in that area and play effectively," Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

Kohli has been getting out in a similar fashion match after match -- playing deliveries on the fourth or fifth-stump line. Hence, Vengsarkar feels the superstar cricketer should take a leaf from SRT's memorable unbeaten 241-run knock versus Australia in the fourth and final Test, at SCG, Sydney, in the 2003/04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Back then, a struggling Tendulkar hadn't attempted playing a single delivery outside the off-stump line before settling in as he went onto play a majestic knock.

Back then, a struggling Tendulkar hadn't attempted playing a single delivery outside the off-stump line before settling in as he went onto play a majestic knock.

Cheteshwar Pujara continues his dream run for Sussex in County Championship. In the County C'ship Division Two game between Sussex and Middlesex, being held at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, London, Pujara was at his punishing best as the right-hander slammed his third double ton for his side after the opposition opted to bowl first.

A day after Pujara completed his fifth century of the season, the Test specialist for India converted his hundred into a double century before being the last man to fall for a highly-impressive 403-ball 231, studded with 21 fours and 3 sixes. Riding on Pujara's 231 and Tom Alsop's 135, Sussex compiled a mammoth 523 all-out. After his dismissal, the Indian batter received a thunderous applause by his teammates and spectators at the Lord's balcony and the famous corridor of the iconic stadium. Here's the video:

Dinesh Karthik's splendid run in IPL 2022 revived his career as the veteran cricketer made a comeback into the national side during the India-South Africa home T20Is, in early June. Since then, Karthik has played some vital knocks versus the Proteas and during the series opener of the England T20Is, in Southampton.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, had a decent IPL 15 but failed miserably in the following SA T20Is. To date, he hasn't made big contributions in the shortest format, however, his heroics in India's recently-concluded England ODIs keeps him in the reckoning to be in the Men in Blue squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup (T20 WC), to be held in Australia later this year.

When Ricky Ponting -- coach of Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) -- was asked to name India's wicketkeeper for the eighth edition of T20 WC, he gave an interesting reply.

"We have seen what Rishabh is capable of in 50-over cricket and I know absolutely what he is capable of in the T20 game. Dinesh Karthik has had his best IPL ever just very recently ... and I would be trying to find every possible way to have both of those guys in my team. Rishabh to bat, in that three-four-five range, and have Dinesh and maybe Hardik Pandya... if you have those guys finishing for you, well that batting line-up looks very, very dangerous," Ponting shared his views on The ICC Review Show.

For the unversed, the keeper's slot is a four-way race with Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson also in the reckoning. Thus, the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led team management have a lot to think about while finalising their line-up for the forthcoming marquee event Down Under.

Pant can be slotted in the middle order whereas Ishan can be in the top three and DK is likely to be the finisher, along with Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. Nonetheless, it will certainly not be a cakewalk for the team management in choosing the final T20 WC squad due to problems of plenty.

Pant or Karthik: Ricky Ponting names his choice for India's wicketkeeper's slot for 2022 T20 WC

From Shikhar Dhawan to Jasprit Bumrah: 7 captains Rahul Dravid has worked with as India's head coach

It isn't an unknown fact that Team India have not been able to win an ICC event since 2013. Their last major trophy came during the 2013 Champions Trophy under talismanic leader MS Dhoni. Since then, India have been knocked out in the semi-finals in as many as three ICC events (2015 ODI World Cup, 2016 T20 World Cup, 2019 ODI World Cup), lost two mega finals (2014 T20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy) and bowed out of the league stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

From MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli was given the charge of the team across formats in early 2017. Under him, India did well in every ICC event, barring last year's showpiece event in the UAE, but failed to return with the coveted title. Former and tainted India pacer S Sreesanth has now claimed that India would have won three World Cups had he been part of Kohli-led Men in Blue.

“If I would have been a part of the team under Virat’s captaincy, India would have won the World Cup in 2015, 2019 & 2021," the former fast bowler made the big claim during a live chat with fans as part of the new season of CricChat on the ShareChat Audio Chatroom.

Further, Sreesanth also stressed how practicing bowling yorkers made him master it as a fast bowler. "It is important to visualize while playing and small regions do not make any difference. Rather it is better to learn such tricks here, given there are a few distractions. My coach taught me how to throw Yorkers with tennis balls. If you ask Bumrah, he’ll say that it is easy too,” Sreesanth opined.

'India would've won 3 World Cups if I played in Virat Kohli-led team' : S Sreesanth makes big claim

Team India ended their tour of England by winning both the white-ball series. Rohit Sharma-led India won the three T20Is, 2-1, and also clinched the following three ODIs by the same margin. Thus, India are being termed as one of the favourites for the upcoming T20 World Cup, in Australia, as the team is ticking a lot of boxes in the shorter formats at present.

Nonetheless, when former England captain Nasser Hussain was asked how prepared India are for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Down Under, during an interaction on Sony Sports, he pointed out a glaring issue of the Indian batters against left-arm seamers. In 2016 Asia Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy final, 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final and 2021 T20 World Cup, India's top order has struggled against left-arm seamers. Mohammed Amir, Shaheen Afridi, Trent Boult, etc. have troubled the Indian batters. Even in the India-England white-ball leg, Reece Topley caused a lot of trouble for the Men in Blue batters, claiming 3/28 in the final T20I and nine wickets in the last two ODIs. Thus, Hussain pointed out that India need to be wary of such bowlers and play ICC events like they play a bilateral series.

"India are a very strong team, but they need to learn from what happened in the past. In the last T20 World Cup in the UAE, they were a bit timid with the bat, so they need to stop being that. When you have Pandya and Pant in the middle order and then Jadeja that rope to follow, you don’t need to be timid at the top.

History tells you that Shaheen Shah Afridi blew them away one evening in Dubai, Mohammad Amir blew them away one afternoon at the Oval in a final, and Reece Topley has blown them away here [in two matches at Lord's and Old Trafford]," he added.

'They need to...' - Former England captain Nasser Hussain mentions Team India's glaring issue

Rishabh Pant has once again stunned world cricket. While Pant has been a huge hit for India in Test cricket, he has not lived upto expectations in the white-ball formats. However, when Rohit Sharma-led India faced England in the three-match ODI series decider, in Manchester on Sunday (July 17), the swashbuckling left-hander came to his best and delivered when the chips were down for the Men in Blue.

After dismissing Jos Buttler-led England for 259 in 45.5 overs, courtesy of Hardik Pandya's 4/24, India were in a spot of bother and reduced to 72/4 when Pant and Hardik joined forces. While Hardik played the aggressor's knock, with a 55-ball 71, the left-hander stayed till the end to smash his maiden ODI ton -- 125 not out off 113 balls -- and took India to a 2-1 series win over the 50-over world champions. Seeing Pant rise to the occasion in a high-pressure situation, former Indian batter and former Bengal coach Arun Lal has lavished huge praise on Pant. In addition, he feels he is the future captain after Rohit.

“Yes, absolutely (when asked if Pant is the future captain after Hitman). Lal told Jagran TV. "I always feel that the captain must deserve his place among the top three in the team. He (Pant) is someone who is not afraid to play his game, can handle pressure well, can take the team out of tough situations and such a player can be a great leader. It will be good for Indian cricket if we can have an aggressive player like Pant as captain of the side," he further asserted.

"If Pant can play consistently, he will be a hero for the Indian team. If you play well in red-ball format, there are chances that you will do well in white-ball format too with a little bit of adjustment. However, it’s not necessary that if you play well in the white-ball format, you will be able to perform the same way in the red-ball format because in Test cricket, you need a different set of skills, the ability to handle different kind of pressure, physical fitness to sustain five-day cricket. I have seen Rishabh Pant changing the tides both in Tests and limited-overs formats. It is not about scoring centuries, but a century that comes under difficult circumstances and helps to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat," added the former Bengal coach.

Pant has now been given some breather and he won't be part of the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian ODI side, which is gearing up to face West Indies on the Caribbean island from July 22. Is Rishabh Pant the future captain after Rohit Sharma? Former India batter shares his take

Rohit Sharma-led India ended a very successful tour of England on Sunday (July 17). After India lost a golden opportunity to win the rescheduled fifth and final Test, from 2021, versus Ben Stokes-led England, the visitors turned it around in the white-ball leg, beating Jos Buttler & Co. in T20Is as well as in ODIs (by 2-1 margin).

While the T20Is was easily pocketed by India, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead before losing the finale by 17 runs, the 50-over series lived upto expectations and went to the final ODI with the scoreline 1-1. In the third and final match, India dismissed England for 259 in 45.5 overs -- riding on Hardik Pandya's 4/24 -- before Hardik's 71 (55) and Rishabh Pant's 125 not out rescued India from 72/4 to take them to a stunning five-wicket series win in the tour finale.

After the end of the England tour, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra picked India's most valuable white-ball player. The white-ball sides comprises several stars such as Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Pant, Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja Hardik, etc., however, Chopra picked the latter.

"Hardik Pandya - he has been absolutely stellar. One thing is getting proved that he is India's most valuable player in white-ball cricket. I don't think there is going to be anyone who is going to come close to him," Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

"If Hardik Pandya is fit, his replacement is not available. You will get many spin-bowling all-rounders in India, you get them easily, in different formats, but you don't get a fast-bowling all-rounder at all, it is not possible at all," Chopra added.

Hardik has been in sensational form since his return to competitive cricket, starting from IPL 2022. In the 15th IPL season, he led debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to the mega title, with 487 runs and eight scalps overall, contributed with the bat in the home T20Is versus South Africa, led India for the first time during their 2-0 series whitewash over Ireland in the shortest format, in Dublin, won the Player-of-the-Match in the India-England first T20I and ended as the Player-of-the-Series in the ODis versus the Three Lions.

Not Jasprit Bumrah or Rishabh Pant! Aakash Chopra picks Team India's most valuable white-ball player

Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant stood tall for India during their stiff 260-run chase versus hosts England as Rohit Sharma-led India won the three-match ODI series 2-1 on Sunday (July 17) in Manchester. After Hardik's 4/24 dismissed Jos Buttler-led England for 259 in 45.5 overs, India were in a spot of bother at 72 for 4 when Pant-Hardik joined forces.

The duo batted sensibly before Hardik took on the bowlers and allowed Pant to play calculative cricket. While Hardik fell for a 55-ball 71, Pant continued from his end and slammed his maiden ODI ton to guide India to a stunning five-wicket series win over the world champions. After the victory, many former cricketers have hailed the batting pair of Pant-Hardik.

Joining the bandwagon, Sanjay Manjrekar also heaped praise on the dynamic pair and told Sports18, "Yes, just hoping that Hardik can keep his fitness together. No issues about Rishabh Pant. What we saw in that last one day, I was completely floored by the sheer talent and ability of these two guys, temperament as well, built a long partnership and how easily, in the end, India won. Thanks to Rishabh Pant for staying there till the end. So yes, high-quality batters, and they’re going to be batting mostly at number 4 and 5 whether it’s T20 Cricket or 50 overs cricket or Pant could be opening as well. In 2019, we had a lot of issues finding a proper middle order but now we have some quality supply."

Another India's win, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar had also lauded Pant-Pandya, comparing them to the legendary pair of MS Dhoni-Yuvraj Singh in white-ball formats.

Speaking on Sports Tak, Gavaskar sounded optimistic of that Pant-Pandya can replicate the success of Dhoni-Yuvraj. "It can definitely happen. Rohit Sharma-led India faced England in the third and final ODI with the series on the line, being levelled at 1-1 after Jos Buttler & Co.'s 100-run in the penultimate encounter. Winning the toss, India opted to bowl first and dismissed England for 259 in 45.5 overs riding on Hardik Pandya's 4 for 24.

In reply, England had the upper hand in India's run-chase as Reece Topley was once again the pick of the bowlers and visitors were reeling at 38/3 and were further reduced to 72 for 4. All-rounder Hardik (71) and Rishabh Pant got together and stitched a match-winning 133-run fifth-wicket stand to take India out of troubled waters and to a stunning five-wicket win. While Hardik departed for a well-made 55-ball 71, Pant played a sensible 113-ball 125-run unbeaten knock. With this, India won their first-ever ODI series on English soil since 2014.

Meanwhile, captain Rohit also became only the third Indian skipper to win an ODI series in England, joining the likes of MS Dhoni (2014) and Md Azharuddin (1990). (India, under Kapil Dev, were also adjudged the winners of a drawn 1-1 ODI series versus hosts England in 1986. However, it isn't included in the list). On the other hand, Rohit became the first Indian captain to win both ODIs and T20Is in England. Before much, his predecessor Virat Kohli had led India to a 2-1 T20I series win in 2018, however, he lost the ODIs -- by the same margin -- versus Eoin Morgan & Co.

At the post-match presentation, an elated Rohit said, "Very pleased. Came here, wanted to achieve something as a group in white ball. We were here last time and were beaten, I remember that. Not an easy place to come and win games. It was a good pitch, but we do understand it's not going to be easy if we lose wickets upfront. Positive side of it, these guys haven't batted much in the middle overs. Today we got to see that with Hardik and Rishabh. At no point we felt they were panicking. They backed themselves and played cricketing shots. He's a critical member for us (Chahal). Has got so much experience bowling in all formats. Pretty pleased with how he's come back after the WC. Hardik as well. One side boundary was long, he kept bowling the bouncers and got rewards for it. Not really (Worried about top-order?). To be honest, the wicket didn't have much. We played some not-so-good shots. Still back those guys to come out good. One of those series where top order hasn't come to the party. Have got nothing more to say because I know the quality they bring to the team."

Rohit Sharma joins MS Dhoni and Md Azharuddin in elite list after India win ODI series versus England

Virat Kohli remains under the scanner. The superstar Indian batter's century-drought continues since late 2019. In the just-concluded India tour of England, the 33-year-old former Indian skipper returned with not even a single fifty-plus score across formats and won't be part of India's white-ball tour of West Indies, starting on June 22.

Thus, the discussion around Kohli's form continues to gather pace in the world cricket. India's veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has now joined the bandwagon and extended his support to his Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) teammate Kohli.

On the sidelines of a training session with young and aspiring cricketers at Jaipur's PS Sports Excellence Arena, Karthik told TOI, "Virat has experienced insane success over the period of time. Now he will get a good break and will come back all recharged and hopefully will do phenomenally well. You can never rule out a player of his calibre."

Karthik then shifted focus to his own career as he has made a comeback into the national side after a long gap, owing to his success in IPL 2022. "It is never easy, but I have worked hard for it. Also, given the bench strength that we have today, the competition is always going to be a part of it. This is the beauty of Indian cricket," added the 36-year-old.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya were the star performers for Team India as they clinched the three-match ODI series versus England, in Manchester, on Sunday (July 17). After bundling out Jos Buttler-led England for 259 45.5 overs, the Rohit Sharma-led side was in trouble after being reduced to 38/3, further to 72/4, before Hardik-Pant's 133-run fifth-wicket stand rescued India and they went onto win the series decider by five wickets (claming the series 2-1).

While Hardik had already impressed with the bat, returning with 4 for 24, he slammed a match-winning 55-ball 71 before Pant rose to the occasion, with the series on the line, and smashed his maiden ODI ton. Ending with a fine 113-ball 125 not out, Pant was adjudged the Player-of-the-Match whereas Hardik walked away with the Player-of-the-Series award. After India's win, former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh lavished huge praise on Pant-Hardik and revealed how he also had a role to play in Pant's heroics in Manchester.

"Looks like the 45-minute conversation made sense!! Well played @RishabhPant17. That's how you pace your innings. @hardikpandya7, great to watch #indiavseng," tweeted Yuvraj.

ENG vs IND: Yuvraj Singh reveals how he had a role to play in Rishabh Pant's 125 not out in 3rd ODI

In pursuit of 260, Rohit Sharma-led India were in a spot of bother in the third and final ODI versus Jos Buttler-led England at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday (July 17). India lost their famed top three -- skipper Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli -- very soon and were reduced to 38 for 3 before Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal further pushed India on the back foot, reeling at 72 for 4.

From thereon, Hardik Pandya -- who had helped India dismiss England for 259 in 45.5 overs courtesy of his 4/24 -- joined Rishabh Pant and the duo batted sensibly in the initial few overs before the all-rounder attacked swiftly and allowed the keeper-batter to play freely. Without dropping much sweat, the duo stitched an invaluable 133-run fifth-wicket match-winning stand. Despite Hardik being out for a 55-ball 71, Pant stayed till the end to ensure India went past the finish line, by five wickets, with his unbeaten 125-run knock, off 113 balls.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hardik revealed the chat he had with centurion Pant. He said, "I was just repeating the same thing and even told him that I am repeating it too much! Let’s have a partnership, take the match as close as possible, and finish the match. Pehle match toh close kar, phir tujhe enjoy karna hai to kar le! (Finish the match first, then you can enjoy if you want).“And then he opened up. Stressing on the talent they both have, the run rate or the remaining number of overs wasn't going to be an issue. 'I was just.....' - Hardik Pandya reveals chat with Rishabh Pant in duo's match-winning stand vs England

Rishabh Pant produced fine innings for India during their tricky 260-run chase in the ODI series decider versus Jos Buttler-led England on Sunday (July 17) in Manchester. After Rohit Sharma-led India dismissed England for 259 in 45.5 overs, riding on Hardik Pandya's 4 for 24, India were in a spot of bother being reduced to 72 for 4 before centurion Pant and Hardik (55-ball 71) rescued India and took them to a memorable 2-1 series win.

Pant, who flopped in India's 247-run chase in the second and penultimate ODI, had a tough job in hand after India lost their famed top 3 -- skipper Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli -- for cheap whereas Suryakumar Yadav also fell for 16. Thus, the onus fell on Pant and Hardik and the duo played sensibly before taking on the English attack and closed the run-chase in 42.1 overs, with five wickets in hand. While Hardik missed out on his maiden white-ball ton, Pant scored his first-ever century in the format and even hit the winning runs. Virat Kohli-led India was on a roll in the five-match Test series versus England in the 2021 English summer. After missing out on going 1-0 up in the series opener -- with visitors needing only 157 more runs in pursuit of 209 rain completely washed out the final day's play -- Kohli & Co. took on Joe Root-led English camp in the second Test at Lord's.

'He was in a daze': Ravi Shastri recalls Rohit Sharma's dismissal on 83 in India-England 2021 Lord's Test

The Supreme Court on Friday said that it will hear next week the plea of the Board of Control for Cricket in India seeking to amend its constitution with regard to the tenure of its office bearers including President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Krishna Murari was told by senior advocate PS Patwalia, appearing for the BCCI, that their application was filed two years ago and direction was given by the court to list the matter after two weeks. "But then Covid happened and matter could not be listed. Please list this matter for urgent hearing because amendments to the constitution are in pipeline for two years now", he said.

Patwalia said the earlier order of the court says that amendment to the constitution can only be done with prior permission of the court. The bench said it will see that the matter is listed for next week. Earlier, the Justice RM Lodha led committee had recommended reforms in the BCCI which have been accepted by the top court.

According to the recommendations, there should be a three-year cooling off period for the office bearers of the BCCI after a tenure of six years once a post comes to an end at the state cricket association or at the BCCI level.

The BCCI, in its proposed amendment, has sought abolition of cooling off period for its office bearers which would enable BCCI president Ganguly and secretary Shah to continue in office despite them having completed six years at respective state cricket associations.

The BCCI, in its proposed amendment, has sought abolition of cooling off period for its office bearers which would enable BCCI president Ganguly and secretary Shah to continue in office despite them having completed six years at respective state cricket associations. From Rohit Sharma to Babar Azam: How cricket fraternity has reacted to Virat Kohli's poor form

Virat Kohli once again had a disappointing outing with the bat during Rohit Sharma-led India's 100-run loss at the hands of England in the second and penultimate ODI, on Thursday (July 14) at Lord's. After Indian bowlers once again did a fine job and dismissed Jos Buttler & Co. for 246, many expected the Indian batters to come to the party and help visitors take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

However, none of the Indian batters played a long inning to take the team forward in the chase as they fell for a paltry 146 in 38.5 overs. Talking about Kohli -- whose last fifty for India came in mid-February this year and his century-drought continues since late 2019 -- the No. 3 batter struck some wondeful boundaries before falling for a 25-ball 16, off David Willey. Thus, skipper Rohit was asked about Kohli in the post-match presser and the 35-year-old has backed his predecessor once again. For the unversed, Rohit looked puzzled by yet another question on Kohli's form, however, he carried on to share his thoughts.

Rohit further pointed out that a player of a calibre of Kohli doesn't need any assurance and stressed that form is something which will keep going up and down. "Virat Kohli is such a great batsman. He has been playing for so many years and he has won so many matches for the team. He doesn't need any reassurance. You can see quality of player, form ups & down in everyone's career. Look at how many runs he has scored & centuries scored. Look at his averages. He won many matches for India. He is great Batsman," he added.

India and England will now meet in the third and final ODI, i.e. the tour's last game, in Manchester on Sunday (July 17) with the series tied at 1-1. Will Kohli stand tall with the bat for India in the series decider? Only time will tell...

WATCH: 'Why is it happening?' - Rohit Sharma on talks regarding under-fire Virat Kohli

Hardik Pandya has had a stellar time since IPL 2022. In the 15th IPL season, which saw him make a comeback at the competitive level after last year's T20 World Cup, Hardik returned with his best-ever tally as a batter (487 runs) and claimed eight scalps, including a match-winning three-fer in the season-finale as Gujarat Titans (GT) won their maiden championship on debut.

Hardik's stocks rose considerably after leading Gujarat to a historic title as captain. Making a comeback for India in the home T20Is versus South Africa, the all-rounder fulfilled both roles and was also Rishabh Pant's deputy. Further, he was appointed as the Indian captain during the second-stringed side's twin T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, which Men in Blue won 2-0. In the India-England T20Is, the 28-year-old scored his maiden fifty in the format. Hence, he is on a roll, however, question marks remain on his ability to bowl his full quota of overs in ODIs. So far, he has bowled regularly in T20Is, nonetheless, it remains to be seen if he can complete his full overs in the 50-over format.

In this regard, Hardik-led Gujarat franchise's head coach Ashish Nehra made an interesting remark. "Even Hardik won’t be able to answer that since you can plan but things don’t always fall into place. But so far so good. Hardik can be in any white ball team solely as a batter. On top of that, if he bowls, it will be a bonus. But you can’t keep him as your fifth bowler in T20 or 50 overs. He can only be your sixth bowler," Nehra was quoted as saying by Telegraph India.

The 2011 ODI World Cup winner further added, "But looking at his fitness, you have to build it up slowly. He will not be going to the West Indies for ODIs, which is good in a way. When you are an out-and-out fast bowler, you don’t have a choice. You have to bowl, you have to be fit... But it’s not the case with Hardik. He has been doing well during the last 2-3 months."

Hardik bowled only four overs, conceding 22 runs and being wicketless, in India's ODI series opener versus hosts England at The Oval, London. He is already among wickets in the ongoing second and penultimate ODI, on Thursday (July 14) at Lord's, and will slowly aim to regularly finish his full quota of overs in white-ball formats.
