India and Pakistan are gearing up to meet each other in their opening game&nbsp;in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition&nbsp;being held in the UAE. The tournament will be played in the shortest format, as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup later this year, and India will enter as the defending champions.

For the unversed, India have won the Asia Cup on as many as seven occasions, winning the last two seasons, including the only edition held in the T20I format, whereas the Men in Green have won it only twice. Both teams have played each other on several occasions in the tournament's history but never locked horns in the summit clash.

In this year's edition, there are chances of an Indo-Pak clash on three occasions, including the final. Ahead of Pakistan's tour of Netherlands, Pakistan captain Babar Azam addressed a press conference where he was asked whether his side is ready to make it 3-0 versus India if they face them thrice in Asia Cup 2022 (including the group stage, Super Four round and final).

"Dekhe pressure kuchh nahi hai. Koshish yahi hoti hai ki match ko match ki tarah&nbsp;hi khelein.&nbsp;(We'll try to approach it like any other match)," Babar&nbsp;replied.

The group stage clash between the two Asian giants will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai,&nbsp;where India and Pakistan last played each other in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Back then, Babar &amp; Co. had achieved their first-ever win over the Men in Blue in a World Cup clash.

"Yes, there will be different pressure, but as we tried in the last World Cup (not to let it affect us), we'll try to focus on our game and believe in our abilities. This time as well, our focus will be to give our best. Putting our best effort is in our hands, but results are not. If we give our best, then more often than not, results will also come," Babar further asserted.

Asia Cup: Will Pakistan make it 3-0 vs India on facing them thrice? Babar Azam answers journalist's query

The BCCI selection committee announced a 15-member Team India squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition on Monday (August 08). The tournament will be held in the UAE with India, the defending champions, to begin their campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.

This time around, the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format — the second time in the tournament's history — as a rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, in October-November. India's squad sees the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and KL Rahul whereas Jasprit Bumrah missed out due to a back injury. Nonetheless, former chief selector and keeper-batter Kiran More was unimpressed seeing R Ashwin hold onto his spot, who was recalled for the West Indies T20Is.

“I was surprised. How can Ashwin even come in this team? And every time. Even in the last World Cup, he was picked in the team and then did not play. Look at his IPL record, it is not that good. I really felt Shami should have taken that role or Axar Patel. And Axar has performed very well. Shami is my player, and he will go to the World Cup. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” More said on Star Sports.

Virat Kohli's name continues to make heads turn. While the former Indian captain has been out of action from international cricket since India's tour of England, the 33-year-old is still making the headlines as there is a lot of talk regarding his form.

Kohli has been going through a lean patch for quite long. He ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 whereas his century-drought continus since late 2019. Ahead of his return in Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka legend and Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene opined on Kohli's poor form. The former right-handed batter feels it is 'unfortunate' what Virat is going through but has backed him to 'come out of it'.

Speaking on ICC Review show, Jayawardene said, "It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player. I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump). He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary."

<section>
Further, Jayawardene also opined on Rishabh Pant as an opener, who has opened the innings for India on a few occasions in the recent past in white-ball formats. "Even though he (Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)," Jayawardene stated.&nbsp;

India are yet to finalise their openers ahead of the T20 World Cup and there are now several contenders, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav who can open with captain Rohit Sharma.

On Monday (August 08), BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

Along with Virat, KL Rahul also made a comeback. He has been out of action since IPL 2022 and last played an international game in February. Thus, Jayawardene feels he needs game time before getting into his groove. "That (Rahul's lack of cricket) would be a concern for India. He has been out for a little while since the IPL, so having game time is quite crucial especially out there in the middle. The sooner he can get some game time and get that confidence back, is always going to help him, as well as the national team" the Sri Lankan concluded.

'It is unfortunate...' - SL legend Mahela Jayawardene reacts to Virat Kohli's barren run ahead of Asia Cup

Virat Kohli's form remains a big topic of discussion. The former Indian captain was rested for India's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now make a return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the forthcoming Asia Cup, to kick off in August 27 in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made a bold claim. Kaneria feels a struggling Kohli will be able to move past his poor form and revive his career courtesy of the Asian championship, which will be played in the shortest format (for the second-time in tournament-history).

"The Asia Cup will change Virat Kohli's career. The tournament is crucial for him to prolong his career and I feel he will come good. However, many former cricketers have said that Kohli is just heavy baggage on the team if he doesn't score runs. So he needs to think carefully about how he can make a comeback. This is because there are other dynamic batters like Iyer, Samson and Gill waiting in the wings," Kaneria shared his views on his YouTube channel.

Kohli, with&nbsp;3308 runs from 99 T20I matches, will also be playing his 100th game in the format when India start their campaign in the tournament. Men in Blue will face Babar Azam's Pakistan in their tournament-opener on August 28.

'It will change his career' - Ex-Pakistan spinner makes BOLD claim, says Asia Cup will benefit Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, who was rested for the white-ball tour of West Indies, is all set to return to action for Team India during the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition. The upcoming showpiece event will be held in the UAE, with Sri Lanka as hosts, and will be played in the shortest format -- for the second time in the tournament history -- as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (from October-November).

The Indian cricket loyalists will be desperate to see Kohli return to form, who has been struggling for quite a while. He didn't score a single half-century in the England tour, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 and his century-drought continues since late 2019. However, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels Kohli will benefit from India's new-found aggressive batting approach in T20Is.

"Doesn’t matter if he (Kohli) scores a 40 or 70 because everybody has a role to play. There’s synergy in every player; regardless of the position he bats at, you are just going hell for leather. If that’s the mindset, then it’s going to be a lot easier for Kohli," said Chopra on Star Sports.

"It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team doesn’t expect Kohli to score 70 or a 100 or finish the game. You just come and play your game, that’s more than enough," added Chopra.

'You are just going hell...' - Aakash Chopra explains how Virat Kohli will benefit from India's new approach

Arshdeep Singh has been climbing up the ladder for Team India ever since his international debut. After impressing one and all with his skills, a steady head and ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as during the death overs, the 23-year-old has been able to replicate the same so far while donning the India jersey.

Thus, Arshdeep's stocks have risen in the recent past. In the just-concluded India-West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island, the left-arm pacer returned with the Player-of-the-Series award, with seven wickets at an average of&nbsp;16.14. He was exceptional in the death overs and has been included in the Asia Cup 2022 squad. Former Indian cricketer-turned-expert Sanjay Manjrekar feels Arshdeep is slightly above Avesh Khan in the pecking order at present with regard to the T20 World Cup squad selection.

"So, a race going on to clamour to get those seats on business class to Australia. And that's where I think you would have to say Arshdeep Singh has overtaken Avesh Khan. Avesh Khan is slightly behind there and that is something that's very interesting. You know this is a real competition going on for sports. Arshdeep Singh has certainly taken a little lead over Avesh Khan because he's doing exactly what is what Avesh Khan's role is - to go with the new ball in the middle and in the death as well,” Manjrekar told&nbsp;Sports 18.

On the other hand, former keeper-batter Kiron More said&nbsp;on Star Sports show Follow The Blues. "I’m also happy for Arshdeep Singh (for his Asia Cup selection). Arshdeep Singh has been climbing up the ladder for Team India ever since his international debut. After impressing one and all with his skills, a steady head and ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as during the death overs, the 23-year-old has been able to replicate the same so far while donning the India jersey.

After impressing one and all with his skills, a steady head and ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as during the death overs, the 23-year-old has been able to replicate the same so far while donning the India jersey. Thus, Arshdeep's stocks have risen in the recent past. In the just-concluded India-West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island, the left-arm pacer returned with the Player-of-the-Series award, with seven wickets at an average of 16.14. 'He has little lead over Avesh Khan' - Manjrekar on young pacer ahead of India's T20 WC squad selection

During MS Dhoni's captaincy era, there were several reports of an alleged rift between his deputy Virender Sehwag and him. Before the commencement of the 2009 T20 World Cup, there was a lot said and written about Dhoni-Sehwag's equation in the media.&nbsp;

Thus, prior to the then defending champions India's opening clash -- versus Bangladesh -- in the second edition of the T20 WC, in England, Dhoni pulled off another unorthodox move and attended a press conference with the entire Team India players.&nbsp;

While Sehwag and the other&nbsp;members remained standing, Dhoni took a seat&nbsp;and read the official statement of the team, clearing the air&nbsp;regarding the alleged rift.

“Recent reports in the Indian media of a rift between myself and Sehwag amounts to nothing but false and irresponsible media reporting,” the statement read. “Our fans and supporters can take confidence from the wonderful unity that continues to exist in the team," it further added.&nbsp;

The entire rift rumours had got elevated when a reporter had inquired about Sehwag's fitness to Dhoni prior to the 2009 showpiece event. "Whatever is related to the fitness, you will get from the BCCI", Dhoni had replied. On being&nbsp;probed further, the keeper-batter replied,&nbsp;"I am not saying anything on that”,&nbsp;while even admitting he was very aware of the status of the injury.

For the unversed, Sehwag didn't play a single game for India in the 2009 T20 WC, where the Men in Blue bowed out in the Super Eight round.

Throwback! When MS Dhoni walked into press conference with entire team to leave reporters stunned

MS Dhoni remains a big name in international cricket. The former Indian captain retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, but remains a darling of the masses due to his rich contribution to Indian cricket.&nbsp;

In his international career, spanning from late 2004 to 2019, Dhoni ended with 17266 runs, 16 centuries, 108 half-centuries, 643 catches, 359 sixes, and 195 stumpings. In addition, he led India to all three ICC titles along with the No. 1 ranking in Tests. He became a household name for his big-hitting prowess, smart and unorthodox keeping skills, and calm and composed nature as captain.&nbsp;

Recently, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Khan made a big claim on Dhoni. According to Rashid, Dhoni's dropping percentage was as high as 21.

“Dhoni was a batsman-wicketkeeper. Obviously, Dhoni is a very big name. But if I go into stats, his dropping percentage is 21 percent, which is huge, huge,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.

"You can't use my record because this particular record came into being from 2002 or 2003. We had already played by then. Adam Gilchrist had percentage of only 11, Mark Boucher was very good. Australia's Tim Paine started well but towards the end dropped a lot of catches,” Latif asserted.

Rashid also named the best wicketkeeper-batter of the past 10-15 years. “If you look at the best in last 15 years, then I would say Quinton de Kock is superb, has kept in all three formats and batted at the top of the order in white ball cricket,” the Pakistani added.

Interestingly, the former cricketer didn't delve into the details regarding the statistics he came up with. Nevertheless, Dhoni's keeping skills have been admired and hailed by many former cricketers and he has inspired many&nbsp;emerging wicketkeepers in the country&nbsp;over the years. He will next be seen in action on the 22-yard cricket strip during IPL 2023, once again representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

'MS Dhoni's dropping percentage was 21' - Former Pakistan captain's big claim on India legend's keeping skills

After India's successful white-ball tour of West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will now shift their focus towards the forthcoming Asia Cup, in UAE, which will be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (to kick off later this year in Australia).

While India are ticking a lot of boxes, they do have some issues to sort out while finalising their T20 WC squad. Along with problems of plenty, India also need Virat Kohli to return to form at the earliest. The former Indian skipper has looked out of sorts for long and even ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats. His century-drought also continues since 2019 whereas his similar sort of dismissals -- chasing the ball on the fourth or fifth-stump line -- have led to his criticism.

A lot has been said and written about Kohli's batting slot. Should India open with Kohli and Rohit or is the former best suited at his preferred slot, i.e. No. 3? Or, can he be demoted? Amid all this, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel suggested that Kohli should be promoted as an opener, to play freely and not as per the situation.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said ahead of India's squad selection for Asia Cup,&nbsp;"I would want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open. I want Kohli to open, so that he can just go out and unleash himself. He's taken a break, but we all know there's no shortage of ability in his batting style.

"As an opener, you start the game at 0-0. Whereas at No.3, you have to play according to the situation. Kohli can play the way he wants and can still play at a strike rate of 170, and if two wickets have fallen early, he can also play at 130," he stated.

Where should Virat Kohli bat? Ex-Indian stumper shares his preferred slot for star batter ahead of Asia Cup

Since the early 2010s, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the mainstays of Team India. While both the cricketers have a huge following, their fans often engage in a tussle on social media platforms regarding who is the best among the duo.

However, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer was asked to comment on the Kohli vs Rohit debate on social media, Arun Dhumal gave an interesting take.&nbsp;

"We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that. And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think it persists. We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true," Dhumal stated in a video posted on senior journalist Vimal Kumar's YouTube channel.

Dhumal also spoke about the much-talked about Kohli vs BCCI captaincy saga. "As far as the issue of captaincy is concerned, it was his call. He decided that&nbsp;mujhe ab nahi karni hai captaincy&nbsp;(that I don’t want to captain). It is possible that someone feels it’s best to do it after the World Cup, but that is their point of view. But he wanted to quit, and it was purely his decision. And we respected it. He has contributed so much to Indian cricket that everyone in the cricket board respects him. We would like to see Virat in action on the ground," he added.

Both Rohit and Kohli are indispensable to the Indian cricket team and are expected to reunite for India's upcoming Asia Cup 2022 campaign. At present, Kohli has been rested for India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies.

Mohammed Shami remains one of India's finest pacers in the modern era. A regular in the Test and ODI line-up, Shami hasn't played a lot of T20Is prior to and even before the last year's World Cup, held in the UAE. Before represting India in the 2021 T20 WC, Shami's last appearance in the format came in December 2020.

Before the 2022 T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia, Shami has reportedly been informed by the BCCI selection committee that he isn't in consideration for T20Is. As per a report in Inside Sport, the selectors want to continue with Shami in Tests and ODIs, however, they want to try youngsters in the shortest format of the game.

“Shami isn’t getting any younger and we need him fresh for Tests. That is why he is not being considered for T20s. We have had a chat with him post-T20 World Cup on his workload management. This is how it is going to be now. For now, he is not in plans for T20s and the focus will be on youngsters,” a member of the selection committee told the portal.

Shami last played T20 cricket during IPL 2022, where he was part of the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) camp. The 31-year-old returned with 20 wickets in 16 games, at an average of 18.30, and ended with sixth-most wickets overall.&nbsp;

The Indian seamer has so far played just 17 T20Is in his international career since 2014. Shami's case is similar to that of opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has also been sidelined from Tests and T20Is but remains in the scheme of things in ODIs. The idea behind such a decision also has to do with the players' workload management.

The cricketing fans are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The forthcoming mega event in Asia will be held in the shortest format of the game and will see India and Pakistan face each other at least twice and are most likely to also clash in the final.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee tournament, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif opined on the upcoming Indo-Pak clash and feels Babar Azam-led Men in Green are better placed than their arch-rivals Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. He also revealed India's flaws while speaking on his official YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’.

"Win or loss is different. But I think Pakistan's strategy is looking much better. There are not many changes in the Pakistan side, whether it's T20I, ODI or Test. When you look at India, they have had around 7 captains in the past year, which is quite inappropriate in present situation," Latif said.

“Kohli isn't there, Rohit and Rahul were injured. Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant came as captains, Shikhar Dhawan (ODI) also came as a captain. They would have some problem making their best team. It is no doubt that India have the best players but they can't make their best-16, and I think they would have problems even forming their best XI,” the ex-Pakistani&nbsp;stumper further asserted.

“Pakistan won because of India's mistakes last year, and I think this time, Pakistan will benefit from India's mistakes again,” added Latif.

There is a strong chance for India and Pakistan to face each other thrice as the two heavyweights are expected to meet in the tournament-finale. Even if that doesn't happen, the two Asian giants are set to lock horns in their respective T20 World Cup openers, at MCG, Melbourne.

Asia Cup: Ex-Pakistan captain feels Babar Azam & Co. better placed than India, points out Men in Blue's flaws

KL Rahul, India's vice-captain, has been out of action since end of IPL 2022. Rahul played the entire IPL 15 edition, where he led debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the playoffs, before a groin injury led to him missing the home T20Is versus South Africa and the entire England and Ireland tour. After recovering from the injury, he tested positive for Covid-19 and missed out on the ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies as well.

Thus, Rahul's last international appearance came in February 2022. Thus, the 30-year-old is facing a tough period whereas the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue are preparing hard for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, to be held in October-November. Recently, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris shared his take on Rahul and fears that the dashing opener might not reclaim his spot so easily as his absence has led to many other players getting opportunities and making the most of their chances (such as Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, etc.)

“It's a different mindset for players because they don't want to be out and they don't want to be giving other players opportunities. I know India has a very good culture within its group, so it doesn't mind allowing other players opportunities all the time,” Styris said&nbsp;while speaking on Sports18’s daily sports news show ‘Sports Over The Top’.

“I know as a player myself, you never wanted to give somebody else a chance to take your spot. So with the fact that he's out injured and he's away from the team at the moment, it just means that other players are able to do what Suryakumar is doing, what Rishabh Pant is doing, getting in there, taking the chance scoring runs and really posing the selectors some questions saying, do we actually need KL Rahul?"

Rahul was India's leading run-getter in last year's T20 World Cup, held in the UAE. He ended with 194 runs at 152.75 along with three half-centuries. Even in this year's IPL, the right-hander returned with 616 runs (second-most overall). While others have made the most of his absence, he remains a vital cog for India across formats.

Will he find it tough to regain his spot heading into the T20 WC Down Under? Only time will tell...

'He has....' - Former NZ all-rounder fears for KL Rahul's comeback in Team India ahead of T20 WC

After the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE, Indian cricket was at its bottom. Following India's Super 12 round exit, Virat Kohli left captaincy in the shortest format -- a decision he had already taken and announced prior to the tournament. However, what followed was total mayhem.&nbsp;

Kohli was sacked as the ODI captain before India's departure for the tour of South Africa, in early December 2021. After the three-match Test series versus the Proteas, the star batter resigned as the red-ball skipper as well. This led to many speculating that all is not well between Kohli and the BCCI. Recently, BCCI treasurer Amul Singh Dhumal told a senior journalist that it was Kohli's decision to leave captaincy altogether and the board had no role to play.

We would like to see Virat in action on the ground," Dhumal said.

Ever since Kohli left captaincy altogether, his form has been very poor. In the England tour, he failed to register a single half-century whereas his century-drought continues since late 2019.

In this regard, Dhumal said, "See… as far as Virat is concerned, he is not a simple player. He is a great and his contribution to Indian cricket is unparalleled. It is outstanding. So, such conversations (board is trying to sideline Kohli) keep taking place in the media and it does not affect us. We want him to return to form soon, and as far as team selection is concerned, we leave it to the selectors. It is their call as to how they want to go about it."

Kohli isn't part of India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies. He is expected to return for the Asia Cup 2022 edition, whose squad&nbsp;is likely to be announced on August 8.

'I don't want to lead': BCCI treasurer reveals it was Virat Kohli's decision to leave India captaincy

Team India is preparing hard for the forthcoming 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia from October-November. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. are finalising their squad and have a new headache, i.e. to finalise their opening slot with captain Rohit set to be one of the openers.&nbsp;

In regular vice-captain KL Rahul's absence, India have tried the likes of Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav at the top. In the England T20Is, Pant accompanied Rohit whereas SKY is currently opening the Indian innings with Hitman in the ongoing West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island.&nbsp;

While the opening combination is still to be finalised, former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar recalled MS Dhoni's brilliant move where the then captain zeroed in on his two opening batters ahead of India's unbeaten run in 2013 Champions Trophy.&nbsp;

"There was one decision made by Dhoni in 2013 Champions Trophy to send Rohit to open. Dinesh (Karthik) was batting so well in the practice games but Rohit had to play... so the management then, mostly captain Dhoni, found a spot for Rohit at the top of the order. That was a brilliant move," Sridhar told cricket.com.

R Sridhar recalls MS Dhoni's 'brilliant move' ahead of Team India's 2013 Champions Trophy win

Rohit Sharma-led India returned to winning ways in the third T20I, of the five-match series, versus West Indies in the Caribbean island on Tuesday (August 02). After losing the second match by five wickets, India were asked to chase 165 after opting to bowl first at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.

In reply, Men in Blue rode on opener Suryakumar Yadav's 44-ball 76&nbsp;and Rishabh Pant's unbeaten 26-ball 33 to chase down the score in 19 overs with seven wickets to spare. Captain Rohit couldn't do much as he retired hurt for 11 due to back spasm. Despite his short stay in the middle, the 35-year-old surpassed his predecessor Virat Kohli to attain an elite feat as the Indian captain.

Hitman now has most number of sixes as Indian captain in the shortest format. He was tied with Kohli at 59 sixes before taking his tally to 60 prior to his injury forcing him out of the field. Rohit has 60 sixes in 34 innings as captain, with Kohli (59) and MS Dhoni (34) following suit.

Rohit also opined on his injury after the conclusion of the match. "It's okay at the moment. We've got a few days till the next game, hopefully it should be okay (his injury)."

The Indian captain lauded his team for bouncing back swiftly to take a 2-1 lead in the five T20Is. In this regard, he stated, "How we bowled in the middle overs was crucial. I thought we used the conditions well. Used the variations well. Was very clinical how we chased. When you watched from the outside, didn't feel a lot of risk was taken, was a lot of calmness in the middle. Surya batted brilliantly, good partnership there with Iyer. The pitch had something in it for the bowlers, not an easy target. Was important to pick the right shots, right balls on a ground like that."

WI vs IND, 3rd T20I: Rohit Sharma goes past Virat Kohli to achieve elite feat as Indian skipper

Dinesh Karthik made a comeback into the Indian team post his heroics in IPL 2022. Playing the role of a finisher to perfection for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Karthik was recalled in the T20I side for the home series versus South Africa, in early June, and the keeper-batter has won two Player-of-the-Match (POTM) awards since then.&nbsp;

In the ongoing five T20Is between India and West Indies, the 36-year-old Karthik returned with his third POTM performance, overall, courtesy of an impressive 19-ball 41 not out in the series opener in Trinidad, on July 29. DK is making a strong case to be included in Rohit Sharma-led India's T20 World Cup squad, for this year's showpiece event in Australia,&nbsp;where he is expected to replicate MS Dhoni's role as a finisher. Former Indian opener and chief selector Kris Srikkanth, however,&nbsp;feels the veteran is just providing the 'final touches' and isn't a 'finisher'.

"Your definition of a finisher is wrong. Yes, Dinesh has been doing very well. He has been brilliant in the IPL and a few matches here. But that is not a finisher! A guy who can take the match from 8th or 9th over and finish it can be called a finisher. What Dinesh is doing can be called final touches. Take Suryakumar Yadav. We saw that he almost single-handedly won the match in England. That's the finishing role. Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant are finishers... and our captain (Rohit) can open and play till the 17th over in 12th gear is also a finisher," Srikkanth pointed out on&nbsp;FanCode&nbsp;during the India-WI third T20I on Tuesday (August 02), which visitors won by seven wickets.

"An actual finisher doesn't play between 16-20 overs. A finisher is a guy who takes the match along from 8th or 9th over and eventually finishes with 60 odd runs. Dinesh's role is defined. He is doing fantastic but he is fine-tuning the finishing role instead of actually being a finisher," he added.

DK will be eager to come up with more match-winning performances in the remaining two T20Is versus West Indies. By playing some key roles especially in run-chases, he will tick&nbsp;a lot of boxes to cement his spot for the mega event in Australia, later this year.

WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav wins over fans with heartwarming gesture after India beat WI in 3rd T20I

Team India have adopted a new attacking approach in the shortest format ever since Rohit Sharma took over from Virat Kohli last year. After the debacle in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where many slammed Men in Blue's timid approach, it seems that the one-time winners have learnt from their past mistakes and are willing to play more aggressively without compromising on&nbsp;their new exciting playing style.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is also Rohit's deputy in the ongoing five-match T20I series versus West Indies in the Caribbean island, threw more weight on India's new approach and also dwelled on his glittering performances ever since his return to competitive cricket, with IPL 2022, after last year's T20 WC.

"The last World Cup was very different than this one, but the process has remained the same. I have maintained a balance in my life now, where if I am performing I will be happy, even if I am not, I will be happy. With that you won't be overconfident while you perform well and won't be too demotivated when the bad slump comes along. That balance is really important," Hardik said in a chat with journalist Vimal Kumar while describing his sensational run since his comeback.

Speaking on India's new playing style, the 28-year-old Hardik stated, "You gain confidence when you see players performing with a new approach, the way with which pressure is being put on opposition bowlers. They might be thinking that even if new-look India are 10-3, they will be looking to score 190 rather than play out the 20 overs. Because of that attitude, this team is looking more and more dangerous."

Currently, the Hardik-starrer India lead the five T20Is versus West Indies 2-1 after beating the hosts by seven wickets in the third encounter on Tuesday (August 02).

Team India have adopted a new attacking approach in the shortest format ever since Rohit Sharma took over from Virat Kohli last year. After the debacle in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where many slammed Men in Blue's timid approach, it seems that the one-time winners have learnt from their past mistakes and are willing to play more aggressively without compromising on their new exciting playing style.

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha hailed MS Dhoni and mentioned that the ex-Indian captain was one of the main reasons behind Men in Blue's 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at home. Ojha credited Dhoni for creating a group of 25-30 players who were ready for the big occasions at any given point and had enough match experience to not falter during knockout stages.

“I strongly feel that the reason the 2011 World Cup was a success for us was because MS Dhoni was very serious about all the guys who were going to be in the mix, the 25 or 30, needed to play at least 40 games before the World Cup started. You may have scored a lot of runs but if you don’t have the experience of dealing with various situations, you may not feel it during the league matches but the most important games, the knockouts, the semi-finals and the finals …. That is when that experience really helps you," Ojha said on&nbsp;FanCode.

Under Dhoni, India lifted their second ODI WC title by beating Sri Lanka in the final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 2, 2011. Dhoni scored a match-winning 91 not out along with Gautam Gambhir's 97 as India chased down a challenging 274 versus the Islanders. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, R Ashwin, etc. played a huge role in India's success.

Ojha was sharing his views while talking about Rohit Sharma-led India's constant chopping and changing with their limited-overs sides with the T20 World Cup only over&nbsp;two months away. He asserted, "Jab aapke paas itna bada pool rehte hai, toh uska downside bhi agar aap dekhein, toh jabhi bhi aapko mauka milta hai … it will be limited. Agar aapka pool bada nahin hai, toh shayad aapko 10-12 mil sake hain but when you talk about Indian cricket right now, aapko 10 nahin aapko shayad 5 matches milenge ya shayad 3 kyunki pool itna bada hai. Competition has become neck to neck. Players are performing so you have to bring you A game, and if you do not perform and another guy does and some senior play gets back in, then unfortunately you will miss out."

"That is the truth. These players need to realise that they are playing for India and just grab their chances. Look at what Suryakumar Yadav has done … He’s getting hundreds. Deepak Hooda got a hundred. If you are scoring hundreds, in any format and at any level, then people start noticing you. In the Ranji Trophy, the level of competition has gone up. People are not talking about who has scored a hundred, but who has scored double-hundreds and triple-hundreds. When the competition goes so high you have to raise your game too and go higher," Ojha added.

Rohit-led India are currently involved in the five-match T20I series versus hosts West Indies. The series is levelled at 1-1 with three more games to go.

Arshdeep Singh is raising his stature slowly and steadily. His ability to bowl at the death and also in the powerplay overs prompted the Punjab Kings (PBKS) management to retain him only with Mayank Agarwal before IPL 2022 mega auction.

Back then, Arshdeep wasn't even a capped Indian player. He continued his impressive run in the Punjab jersey in IPL 15 and now is in the scheme of things for Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team management for this year's T20 World Cup, in Australia, from October-November. Arshdeep's ability to remain calm and bowl the tough overs, with his variations, has stood out and he has even impressed in his two outings for the national side in the shortest format, one against England and the other during the ongoing India-West Indies T20I series opener, in Trinidad, on Friday (July 29). The 23-year-old has returned with 2/18 and 2/24 in his two T20Is and, thus, has impressed his senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

"Usually you learn these things as you play but he seems to have arrived with that kind of maturity. Even in the IPL in the last couple of years, he has performed consistently. He knows exactly what he wants to do, he thinks a lot about his game," Bhuvi added.

Talking about Rohit-led India, they will meet the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies in the second T20I on Monday evening. The visitors will rely on Bhuvi-Arshdeep-led bowling attack to shine once again and take a 2-0 lead in the series after hammering the hosts by 68 runs in the first T20I.

CWG 2022: 'Hope this takes.....' - Sachin Tendulkar reacts as cricket returns in showpiece event

Virat Kohli's form continues to be a cause of concern for Team India and its ardent fans. While Kohli is out of action at present and isn't part of Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s white-ball tour of the West Indies, the 33-year-old continues to make headlines as many former cricketers and experts share their views and give advises to the star batter on how to regain his form.

Many former players have commented on Kohli's recent rut. In the recent England tour, he returned without a single half-century across format whereas his last international ton came in late 2019. His dismissals are of similar pattern, poking at deliveries outside the off-stump, hence, many have opined on his lack of runs. Virat Kohli's form continues to be a cause of concern for Team India and its ardent fans. While Kohli is out of action at present and isn't part of Rohit Sharma & Co.'s white-ball tour of the West Indies, the 33-year-old continues to make headlines as many former cricketers and experts share their views and give advises to the star batter on how to regain his form. Many former players have commented on Kohli's recent rut. In the recent England tour, he returned without a single half-century across format whereas his last international ton came in late 2019. His dismissals are of similar pattern, poking at deliveries outside the off-stump, hence, many have opined on his lack of runs. Recently, when a journalist asked former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi to comment on Kohli's struggles, the legendary cricketer gave a befitting reply. Top bowling spells from spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur helped India crush West Indies by 119 runs in the rain-hit third and final ODI of the series here at Queen`s Park Oval on Thursday. India has completed a clean sweep of 3-0 over the hosts. India can walk away with a lot of positives after this match as their batting was great, lead from the front by openers Shikhar Dhawan (58) and Shubman Gill (98*).

Setting a target of 257 in 35 overs after the match was hit by rain, Windies batters never looked as if they were in the game as Indian bowlers feasted on them. The hosts fell prey to a world-class bowling attack with their careless shot selection. Chahal (4/17), Siraj (2/14) and Thakur (2/17) were extremely economic with the ball and delivered timely blows to their opponent.

Chasing 257, West Indies got off a nightmarish start, losing opener Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks in the second over to pacer Mohammed Siraj. Following this, opener Shai Hope and Brandon King resumed the chase for the hosts. They both maintained solid running between the wickets. King was the aggressor during the partnership. Hope-King added 47 runs to their stand before the former was stumped by wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for 22 off 33 balls on a delivery by spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. At the end of 10 overs, West Indies was 48/3, with King (24*) and Pooran (1*). Captain Nicholas Pooran was next up on crease. The 12th over was bowled by pacer Prasidh Krishna and it turned out to be expensive, with Pooran-King smashing four boundaries in it collectively. It was spinner Axar Patel who gave India their fourth wicket, removing King, who was looking threatening. He had scored 42 off 37 balls before he was trapped leg before wicket by the bowler.

Keacy Carty was next up on the crease. Pooran`s game became more attacking, smashing Deepak Hooda for a four and a six and Axar for a four as well. The duo took the hosts to the 100-run mark at end of 18 overs, with Pooran being the aggressor. Shardul Thakur broke the 29-run stand between the duo, bowling out Carty for just five runs off 17 balls. At this point, half of Windies line up was back in the hut at 103. Jason Holder was the next batter to arrive on the crease. The all-rounder was making his return to white-ball cricket after a while and had a task in hand to build a solid stand with his skipper. Prasidh finally got his first wicket of the day, dismissing the danger man Pooran for 42 off 32 balls after being caught by Dhawan at mid-on. Thakur gave another jolt to the hosts, sending back Akael Hosein for just one run after skipper Dhawan took another great catch.

There was not much batting left with the Windies except for Holder, who needed to pull off something really great to guide his team to a consolation win. Things continued to go downhill for Windies, with Paul dismissed for a duck by Chahal after he was caught by Thakur at point while attempting to reverse sweep. Holder was running out of partners at this point, now joined by Hayden Walsh. Walsh was the ninth wicket down at a score of 137 after being caught by Dhawan at slips. Jayden Seales was the last player dismissed, sent back to pavilion by Chahal. Windies were bundled out for 137. They had lost the match by 119 runs and India had completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the series. Chahal finished as the leading bowler for India with 4/17. Siraj and Thakur also took two wickets. Krishna and Axar got one scalp each.

Earlier, a 113-run stand between Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan powered India to 225/3 in 36 overs during the rain-hit third and final ODI against West Indies here at Queens Park Oval on Wednesday. As per Duckworth-Lewis Method, West Indies were set a target of 257 runs in 35 overs. The innings face disruption due to rain. But despite this disruption, India managed to put up a solid total on the board. Dhawan (58) and Gill (98*) continued their fine batting form and Windies bowlers were not able to do much. Shreyas Iyer also contributed a fine 44.

Electing to bat first, India was cautious for the first ten overs, mostly rotating the strike and hitting big occasionally. This cautious approach bore fruit as openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill were able to get through the mandatory powerplay with a score of 45/0, with the duo standing unbeaten at 22 each. After reaching their 50-run stand in 67 balls, the duo accelerated their run-making. Skipper Dhawan brought up his 37th fifty in ODIs. Dhawan-Gill brought up their 100-run stand in 118 balls.

Gill was also looking really classy with the bat at the other end and brought up his second ODI fifty, continuing his good run in the series. The 113-run stand between the duo was broken in 23rd over. It was spinner Hayden Walsh who gave Windies a breakthrough by dismissing Dhawan for 58 off 74 balls, with skipper Nicholas Pooran taking the catch at mid-wicket. Shreyas Iyer was next up on crease. Rain interrupted play at this point, with India at 115/1 in 24 overs, with Gill (51*) and Iyer (2*). The match resumed as a 40-over-a-side contest. After this, Gill-Iyer started showing more attacking intent with the willow, smashing boundaries and sixes.

The very first over after rain went for 18 runs. The duo raced to their 50-run partnership in just 30 balls. West Indies bowlers were shocked by the sudden change in gears and it was reflected in some sloppy fielding by them.

The duo kept the scoreboard moving and added 86 runs before Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a solid 44 off 34 balls by spinner Akeal Hosein after being caught by Keemo Paul at long-on. Suryakumar Yadav was the next man on the crease for India. However, his poor run of scores continued as he was dismissed by Walsh after being caught for just eight runs at backward point by Shamarh Brooks.

Sanju Samson, the wicketkeeper-batter was next up on the crease. Gill-Samson carried on for a while before rain interrupted play once again. India`s innings came to an end at 225/3 in 36 overs due to rain, with Gill (98*) and Samson (6*) unbeaten.

Brief Scores: India: 225/3 in 36 overs (Shubman Gill 98, Shikhar Dhawan 58, Hayden Walsh 2/57) win against West Indies: 137 in 26 overs (Brandon King 42, Nicholas Pooran 42, Yuzvendra Chahal 4/17) by 119 runs.

3rd ODI: India hammer West Indies by 119 runs to register clean sweep in Trinidad

Virat Kohli is surely not having the best of time on the 22-yard cricket strip. After having resigned as India's captain from T20Is and Test cricket, and being sacked as the ODI skipper, Kohli's form remains a cause of concern for the Men in Blue heading into the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia.

Kohli ended India's recent tour of England without a single half-century across formats. The 33-year-old's century-drought, thus, also continues&nbsp;since late 2019; in the pre-Covid era. When he was at his peak, Kohli was slamming tons left, right and centre; especially&nbsp;dominating in&nbsp;the ODI format. In 2013, when the star batter had only nine tons in the 50-over format, he had made a bold claim of emulating Sachin Tendulkar's heroics in ODI cricket.

"That Virat Kohli's one-day record is phenomenal is an understatement. And he is inching closer to that record of Sachin's - whether he gets there or not that's not the point. I will tell you a little story. In 2013, we went to sign Virat in LA, for Oakley. And we were sitting there. Virat had come with his manager Bunty and I had come down from Mumbai. I was doing the Champions League and has gone down just to sign him. And sitting there, as a 24-year-old with 9 ODI hundreds under his belt, he sat down and said, 'One-Day mein toh main paaji (Sachin) ko pakad loonga. Paaji had 49 hundreds," claimed Ashwin Krishnan -- head of Sports Marketing at Oakley -- while speaking to Jamie Alter on his Glance chat show, The Alternate View.

To date, Kohli has 43 tons and is the only active player who is closest to surpassing Tendulkar in terms of most ODI tons (49). In Tests, he has 27 tons and is way behind the former Indian batter's tally (51).

The Indian cricket fans would hope for Kohli to return to his ton-scoring ways sooner than later as the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue are gearing up for the 2022 T20 WC in Australia, from October-November.

'In ODIs, I will....' - When Virat Kohli made bold claim of emulating Sachin Tendulkar's 50-over heroics

Rohit Sharma will be back in action for Team India when the Men in Blue face Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies in the five-match T20I series opener, on the Caribbean island, on Friday (July 29). The regular Indian captain was rested for the just-concluded three ODIs as Shikhar Dhawan led the team in his absence and guided India to their maiden ODI series whitewash over the Windies away from home.

After the 50-over series, the action now shifts back to the shortest format ahead of the T20 World Cup (to be held in Australia later this year). Rohit will like his team to maintain the winning run and the 35-year-old will also aim to leapfrog New Zealand's Martin Guptill to regain an elite record, of having the most runs in men's T20Is.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NZ opener Guptill was trailing Rohit's tally (3,379) by 21 runs before the Black Caps' first T20I versus hosts Scotland on Wednesday (July 27). He breached Rohit's run-tally by virtue of a 40-run knock during Kiwis' 68-run win over the Scottish line-up&nbsp;in the two-match series opener in&nbsp;Edinburgh. Guptill now has 3,399 runs in 116 T20Is. Thus, Rohit now needs 21 runs to regain the top spot for most runs in men's T20Is.&nbsp;

India will meet West Indies in the T20I series opener at the&nbsp;Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. The series will end on August 07, after which&nbsp;the national side will shift focus towards the 2022 Asia Cup, to be played in the shortest format, from August 27-September 11 in the UAE.

WI vs IND, 1st T20I: Captain Rohit Sharma aims to regain elite record in series opener

Shikhar Dhawan-led India whitewashed Nicholas Pooran's West Indies in the three-match ODI series finale, on Wednesday (July 27) at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. In a rain-curtailed game, India were right on the money and walked past the Windies by a mammoth 119-run margin to inflict a clean sweep over the hosts.&nbsp;

Thus, Dhawan &amp; Co. created history as the second-stringed side led India to its maiden ODI series whitewash over West Indies away from home. Talking about the contest, India opted to bat first and rode on Dhawan's 58, Shubman Gill's 98 not out and Shreyas Iyer's 34-ball 44 to post 225-3 in 36 overs. The revised target&nbsp;for&nbsp;West Indies was a challenging one, being asked to chase&nbsp;257 in 35 overs. In reply, the home side were never in the hunt and got dismissed for a paltry 137 in 26 overs with Yuzvendra Chahal (4 for 17), Shardul Thakur and Md Siraj -- with both pacers returning with two scalps each -- shining with the ball.

At the post-match presentation, Dhawan said, "I&nbsp;feel the boys are young, but they played maturely. The way they handled themselves on the field, really proud of them. Very good signs for us. I am quite pleased with my form, I have been playing this format since a long time. I was happy with the way I played that knock, in the first ODI. And even today, happy with my peformance. The way he scored those 98 runs, it was amazing to watch. The way all the boys responded, it was pretty amazing. We feel lucky to come here, we are thankful to the crowd. They make us more popular. I am proud of our bowling unit, they gave their hundred percent. The way Siraj took those two wickets, and the way Shardul and others bowled."

The action now moves to the five T20Is, where regular captain Rohit Sharma will lead the national side.&nbsp;

Shikhar Dhawan-led India whitewashed Nicholas Pooran's West Indies in the three-match ODI series finale, on Wednesday (July 27) at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. In a rain-curtailed game, India were right on the money and walked past the Windies by a mammoth 119-run margin to inflict a clean sweep over the hosts.

Thus, Dhawan & Co. created history as the second-stringed side led India to its maiden ODI series whitewash over West Indies away from home. Talking about the contest, India opted to bat first and rode on Dhawan's 58, Shubman Gill's 98 not out and Shreyas Iyer's 34-ball 44 to post 225-3 in 36 overs. The revised target for West Indies was a challenging one, being asked to chase 257 in 35 overs. In reply, the home side were never in the hunt and got dismissed for a paltry 137 in 26 overs with Yuzvendra Chahal (4 for 17), Shardul Thakur and Md Siraj -- with both pacers returning with two scalps each -- shining with the ball. WATCH: Dhawan leads India's celebrations after Dravid's winning speech as Men in Blue whitewash WI in ODIs

Virat Kohli continues to be the centre of attention in world cricket. The former Indian captain has not been in action for Team India since the end of the England tour as he has been rested and is&nbsp;not part of Men in Blue's white-ball assignments in the West Indies.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, his form remains a cause of concern and a topic of discussion among the cricketing fraternity. In the England tour, the 33-year-old Kohli failed to touch the 50-run mark across formats whereas his international century-drought continues since late 2019, in the pre-Covid era. Even in&nbsp;IPL 2022, the veteran batter remained below-par, striking at 115.98 to manage only 341 runs -- with two half-centuries. His last IPL ton also came in the 2019 edition.

Thus, Kohli's form continues to draw attention and many former cricketers and experts have opined on his dry run. Pakistan's former batsman Mohammad Yousuf also joined in and stated that this is just 'part&nbsp;of the game'. Further, he lavished huge praise on Kohli, calling him 'best modern-day player in last 10 years'.

"This is a part of the game where a player goes out of form. It has been a lengthier patch for him. But what he has contributed so far, after Sachin Tendulkar, is the player to make that kind of a contribution. He has scored 71 centuries, within a span off 11 years, especially in white-ball cricket. In Tests, he could not do as much as he did in white-ball cricket. However, he has scored 27 Test tons as well. For me, this is a part of the game. Maybe it has to do with the way he has been treated that he has gone under pressure. He would know better," Yousuf said during a chat with Pakistan channel ARY News.

It is expected that Kohli will join Team India for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, and will be part of every series for Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. in the run-up to this year's T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November.
