Team India lost the second T20I, of the five-match series, to hosts West Indies, in Guyana, on Sunday (August 6). After losing the series opener by four runs, Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. lost the second match by two wickets in defence of 153. Following the loss, many have once again slammed head coach Rahul Dravid for India's downfall since the WTC final defeat.

<h2>'Rahul has become a soft target only because...'</h2>

However, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has backed under-fire Dravid and slammed his critics on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a post, Ganesh wrote, "Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for every damn thing. He had no role in the captain juggling his bowlers today. Of late, Rahul has become a soft target only because he doesn’t say much in the media."

Dravid's term as India's head coach is till the forthcoming home ODI World Cup. Irrespective of his future, the former Indian captain&nbsp;will be adamant to revive the team's fortunes and lead them to their third 50-over title later this year.&nbsp;

Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for everything: Former India pacer backs under-fire coach amid defeats vs WI

After winning the Test and ODI series, India have lost two straight T20Is to hosts West Indies in the ongoing five-match series. On Sunday (August 06), Hardik Pandya-led India faced West Indies, in Guyana, for the second T20I and lost by two wickets in defence of 152/7.

Opting to bat first, India rode on Tilak Verma's maiden half century (51) but failed to defend the score despite reducing the home side to 129 for 8, after which they were well-placed at 126 for 4. Hardik claimed three scalps whereas Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets, but India conceded the match due to late hits from Alzarri Joseph-Akeal Hossain.

After yet another loss, former Team India pacer Venkatesh Prasad -- who remains vocal on Indian cricket on social media platforms -- slammed the national side for 'lack of intensity' and 'hunger'.

<h2>'After IPL started,&nbsp;we haven't won a T20 World Cup&nbsp;'</h2>

On the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Prasad wrote, "Very, very ordinary. No point in brushing it aside. After the 2007 T20 World Cup, IPL started and we haven't won a T20 World Cup in 7 attempts since, making only 1 final. The intensity and hunger to win needs to be far more."

"Yesterday after Yuzi took 2 wickets in the 16th over and got India back into the game in what was his third over and West Indies 8th down and he didn't bowl again and No 9 and 10 for WI found the pacers easy to handle. Should be smarter at these moments then just doing textbook stuff," he mentioned.

Ind vs WI, 2nd T20I: Former pacer Venkatesh Prasad rips apart Team India for 'lack of 'intensity'

Rohit Sharma-led India is gearing up for the forthcoming home ODI World Cup (ODI WC), which will kick off early October. The Men in Blue will be sweating it out in the 22-yard cricket strip to win the title after 12 years. Back in the 2011 edition, the MS Dhoni-led Indian team went past several heavyweights to lift the coveted trophy after a gap of 28 years and become the first side&nbsp;to clinch a home 50-over WC.

Thus, Rohit &amp; Co. will have their task cut out to replicate Dhoni-led India's 12-year-old feat. As Hitman recently attended one of the legs of the World Cup Trophy Tour, in Barbados, the 36-year-old recalled some bittersweet memories from the 2011 edition, when he wasn't part of the triumphant Indian squad.&nbsp;

Rohit recalled India's contrasting runs in 2003 and 2007 edition and said, "In 2003, India played really well up until the finals. You know, Sachin Tendulkar was amazing with the bat, scored so many runs. And then comes the 2007 World Cup where we didn't have a great time, and didn't even qualify after the league stage, so that was quite unfortunate."

<h2>'I decided I was not going to watch the World Cup, but again...'</h2>

Sharing his memories from the 2011 edition, Rohit opined, "2011 was a memorable one for all of us, I remember watching it from home, every single match, every single ball which was being bowled and that was being played. There were two kinds of emotions, one was obviously I was not a part of it, so I was a little disappointed. I decided I was not going to watch the World Cup, but again, the second memory I remember was that India was playing so well, the quarter-finals onwards."

"You know, the big quarter-final was against Australia. I know how the pressure is on all these players when playing these games. I can only imagine the pressure that each player must have gone through at that time, and then the semi-finals against Australia. It was a brilliant finish by Yuvi and Raina at the end," he added.

Rohit, who was part of India's 2007 T20 World Cup win, didn't make it to the 2011 ODI WC squad. Back then, India trusted Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan to bolster the middle and lower-order but Hitman failed to make the cut owing to his inconsistency.

During the 2011 edition, India beat teams such as Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka (in the final), etc. to win the trophy. In this year's tournament, Rohit &amp; Co. will open their campaign versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 08 and aim to go the distance and win the championship&nbsp;once again, after 2011, and end their ten-year-long ICC title drought.

Decided not to watch 2011 ODI World Cup: Indian captain Rohit Sharma shares bittersweet memories

Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt thinks that Indians are not playing spinners well in the recent times and it needs to be addressed. The comments by Butt came on the back of India's recent loss in the second ODI during the three-match series against West Indies. While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested for the match, none of the young players could perform up to the mark during the second ODI.&nbsp;

“In recent history, they haven't been playing spinners quite well. They're traditionally solid against spinners, but you don't see that control now. It needs to be addressed. Secondly, there are too many changes on every tour. It's about time, before the World Cup, that you know your 15, and every player knows his role. And the team plays like that,” Butt said on his official YouTube channel.

“If you want to give someone rest, and try different combinations, send an A team itself. Let all players rest. If your half of first XI players are there and half are not, you can't say that it's your main team. Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill.. no one is new. They have double centuries in ODIs, centuries in IPL,” he added.

Butt also said that India might need to recall veteran opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane as well. While Dhawan last played for India in ODIs in November last year, Rahane has been out of the set up for quite some time now. Butt thinks that India need experience in middle-order which Rahane can provide.

“The way Rahane played in IPL and the way he came back in Tests, he is a possible option. And they will need Shikhar Dhawan. I don't see any of the top-order batters, among right-handers, who can open as good as him. Either Shikhar and Shubman (Gill) can open and Rohit comes one down, or Rohit can open with Shikhar. They need experience in World Cup. They also need a guy in at no.5/6, either it's Rahul or Rahane. When there's pressure, the youngsters stutter. You need experience, the pressure gets to you,” said Butt.

Former Pak skipper backs Shikhar Dhawan to make ODI comeback as India 'aren't playing spinners well'

Former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis recalled his playing days and revealed that the then Pakistan team used to get under pressure facing India in ODI World Cup games, and added that&nbsp;he believes the Babar Azam-led Men in Green have enough match-winners and can shine bright in the forthcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year. Both India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, which commences on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and will meet once again in the 50-over World Cup.

<h2>'We used to choke against India in World Cups'</h2>

Waqar, a legend of the game who ended with a total of 789 wickets, admitted that during World Cups, the national side used to get bogged down versus India.&nbsp;"In our times, the pressure wasn't that of a big concern as what it seems right now. The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team - so whenever you'll play them, especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled. Pressure is always high, but maybe in our times, it was comparatively lesser because we used to play lots of cricket in my early days. But then again, in World Cup, we used to choke against India. Nonetheless, as I said, players these days are handling the pressure definitely better. These match-winners, which I mentioned earlier, they'll win us the game," Waqar told&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan.

The former Pakistan skipper added, "Pakistan team have handled pressure in a better way in the recent past. In my opinion, it doesn't matter wherever you play, irrespective of whether in India or Pakistan, if you have your process in check and are executing your skills and plans sufficiently well, so I don't think we have any issue. We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar himself, Shaheen - Fakhar can do wonders, then, of course, we have seen Imam playing great innings, so all-in-all, Pakistan has all the resources definitely, now it's just the matter of putting things together and handling pressure."

Pakistan have never beaten India in the ODI WC history. India lead the Men in Green 7-0 and it will be interesting to see if Pakistan manage to open their account this time around. To date, Babar-led side's participation in the upcoming World Cup is subject to government clearance. The ODI WC is set to commence on October 05 in Ahmedabad with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Netherlands on October 06 in Hyderabad.&nbsp;

"In our times, the pressure wasn't that of a big concern as what it seems right now. These match-winners, which I mentioned earlier, they'll win us the game," Waqar told Cricket Pakistan. Also read: Team India star KL Rahul 'fit' for Asia Cup: Report The former Pakistan skipper added, "Pakistan team have handled pressure in a better way in the recent past. In my opinion, it doesn't matter wherever you play, irrespective of whether in India or Pakistan, if you have your process in check and are executing your skills and plans sufficiently well, so I don't think we have any issue. We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar himself, Shaheen - Fakhar can do wonders, then, of course, we have seen Imam playing great innings, so all-in-all, Pakistan has all the resources definitely, now it's just the matter of putting things together and handling pressure." Pakistan have never beaten India in the ODI WC history. India lead the Men in Green 7-0 and it will be interesting to see if Pakistan manage to open their account this time around. To date, Babar-led side's participation in the upcoming World Cup is subject to government clearance. The ODI WC is set to commence on October 05 in Ahmedabad with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Netherlands on October 06 in Hyderabad. 'Pakistan used to choke against India': Waqar Younis recalls playing days, backs Babar & Co. for 2023 ODI WC

Team India is now gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While the Hardik Pandya-led India is involved in the five T20Is versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island, the ODI regulars are now focused on the continental showpiece event as it will be an ideal dress rehearsal before the home ODI World Cup, in October-November. Before the Asia Cup, Jasprit Bumrah was announced fit and has been named the captain for the three T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, to be held later this month. Now, as per a report in the Times of India, another batter is fit.

KL Rahul, star keeper-batter, is now fit and ready for Asia Cup duties. The stylish batter has been out of cricketing action since his injury in the latter half of IPL 2023. Since then, he missed India's WTC final -- versus Australia -- and the ongoing West Indies tour. With him being India's No. 5 and a reliable keeper, his return will be a massive boost for the Men in Blue.&nbsp;

Rahul has been sharing his fitness updates on social media platforms in the last few days, where he can be seen batting and keeping wickets at the nets. "The coaches and medical experts at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore are satisfied with Rahul's progress/recovery. He will be available for selection for the Asia Cup," a reliable source said.

Rahul suffered a thigh injury during the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s run in IPL 2023, where they finished fourth after losing in the eliminator to Mumbai Indians (MI). Apart from Rahul, Shreyas Iyer is also fighting hard to regain full fitness, however, he is still away from being in contention for the Asia Cup. As per the same report in the TOI, Iyer is likely to be unavailable and can be out of the continental tournament with a back problem that persists despite surgery.

While Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna, are set to make a comeback in the Ireland T20Is and there are strong reports of Rahul also recovering soon. Thus, Indian fans will hope for the trio to get some game time under their belt before the ODI World Cup and also wish for Iyer's speedy return.

Team India star batter-keeper KL Rahul 'fit' for Asia Cup: Report

Kuldeep Yadav’s rise is gradual but has started to make headlines now. The left-arm unorthodox spinner is the highest wicket-taker for India this year with 23 wickets in 12 matches and is on the right course to seal his place in the XI for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India later. But, his road to the top was full of obstacles, and former cricketer and selector Sunil Joshi reflected on it.

Following a stellar start to his international career in 2017, Kuldeep picked two ODI hat-tricks in such a short span and, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, wreaked havoc. All was going well until they came across Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy in the 2019 World Cup.&nbsp;

That hammering against England broke this pair up - fondly known as Kul-Cha (among Indian fans) as they played only three matches together afterwards.

Later, Kuldeep joining Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL didn’t do any good to his confidence as he kept leaking runs and even got benched for most matches afterwards.

Under Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, he didn’t find a place in the team and was out seeking assistance.&nbsp;

His search ended with Sunil Joshi (part of the selection committee then), who brought him under his wings at his academy and worked on a few technicalities that eventually helped him get better with time and taste success.

“I was part of the selection committee when Kuldeep Yadav got dropped. Who came to the rescue? None of the coaching staff, I was the one who got his delivery stride shorter, front arm better, arm speed better, got him to rip more revolutions on the ball,” Sunil Joshi told The Indian Express.

“Suddenly, everybody is talking about Kuldeep Yadav. Ravi Shastri asked Sunil, what have you done with Kuldeep? I said, ‘Ravi bhai, I have not done anything special. These are the simple things that a bowling coach should be doing. If you look at Kuldeep 2.0, his front arm is nice toward the target, his bowling arm is towards the target; he is running towards the target. Shorter stride, there is a free follow through, and he has got quicker through the air. You look at the way he is bowling now,” Joshi added.

<h2>Kuldeep getting closer to his best version</h2>

The left-armer is having the time of his life in international cricket. After leading the spin-bowling chart during the three-match ODIs against West Indies, with seven wickets in three games, including a four-wicket haul in the first ODI, Kuldeep aims to deliver in the shortest format.&nbsp;

Even in the first T20I that India lost by four runs, Kuldeep returned with one wicket in four overs, going for just 20 runs.&nbsp;

With more matches left and looking at the packed calendar ahead, Kuldeep is sure to add more wickets to his tally.

Not Kohli or Shastri, but THIS former selector helped Kuldeep Yadav revive his international career

India beat West Indies, 2-1, in the recently-held three-match ODI series in the Caribbean island. While Rohit Sharma-led visitors won the series opener by five wickets, they lost the second and penultimate tie -- by six wickets -- before winning the decider by 200 runs. What made heads turn during the three ODIs was India's team combination as the Rahul Dravid-led team management rested Rohit and Kohli for the final two matches whereas the fringed players' usage was also questioned.

From the second ODI, Ishan Kishan opened the innings along with Shubman Gill. While Ishan ended the series with scores of 52, 55 and 77, it is to be noted that he played as an opener. Given Rohit and Gill are certain at the top, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will take the middle-order slots once deemed fit before the ODI World Cup. Thus, if Ishan makes the cut for the 50-over showpiece event, to be held in India later this year, he will most likely be slotted at the lower-order. Hence, many raised eyebrows as India used him as an opener throughout the WI ODIs.

The former cricketers and experts were baffled with how India utilised the likes of Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson in the series whereas many slammed them for overlooking Yuzvendra Chahal. Now, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has lashed out at Team India for the way they have used some players in the recent ODIs.

<h2>'One guy being dropped after scoring 200... what's the point?'</h2>

Butt said on his official YouTube channel, "I absolutely agree (that India's experiment with Ishan was confusing). One guy being dropped after scoring 200... what's the point? Either they accept the fact that he is second option, even if he scores 1000 runs in a single innings. That never gives you the feeling of being the best, that never gives you the feeling that you will be rewarded for your performances. Currently, the feeling is no matter what you do, you will be the second option."

He further added, “He is not a bench strength level anymore. He's more than that. Secondly, I accept that Rohit is a big player, but some players are there who have been around for a long time but when pressure gets to them, they can't deliver. Especially at the knock-out stages, this is something that has to be worked on."

At present, India is involved in the five T20Is versus West Indies in the Caribbean island. Their main focus is now on the forthcoming Asia Cup, which commences late in August, before the ODI World Cup 2023 in India in October-November.

'Even if he scores 1,000 runs in an inning, he is...': Ex-Pak captain slams India for experiments in WI ODIs

Hardik Pandya-led India romped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (Aug 1) to clinch the three-match series 2-1. With this win, India claimed their 13th successive ODI series versus the Windies since 2007. After the series win, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya credited his 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for a whirlwind knock in the series decider.

Opting to bat first, India once again rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik led the side that rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and Hardik's 52-ball 70 not out to post a mammoth 351 for 5. In reply, Shai Hope-led side only managed 151 in 35.3 overs to lose by a whopping 200-run margin.&nbsp;

Hardik's knock came at a good time for India as they continue to prepare for the Asia Cup and forthcoming ODI World Cup at home, in October-November. His last five scores were 7, 5, 40, 1 and 25. Thus, the 29-year-old came to his own in the series decider and led from the front. After the knock, he credited Kohli for a wonderful chat where the former Indian captain shared valuable inputs which helped Hardik.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It's been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50-over&nbsp;game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me."

On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it."

Hardik will now lead the side in the upcoming five T20Is versus the Windies in the Caribbean, starting on August 03.

IND vs WI: Hardik Pandya credits 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for his whirlwind knock in 3rd ODI

India thrashed West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI&nbsp;at&nbsp;Trinidad, to win the three-match series 2-1. After the series opener, where India won by five wickets, India rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While the Hardik Pandya-led second-stringed side lost the second and penultimate tie, by six wickets, they were at their dominant best in the series decider, on Tuesday (August 01).

Talking about the final ODI, India opted to bat first and rode on fifties from Shubman Gill (85), Ishan Kishan (77), Sanju Samson (51) and skipper Hardik's 52-ball 70* to post 351/5. In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost&nbsp;by 200 runs. While Ishan and Gill made a strong case ahead of the ODI World Cup, Samson also did well with an attacking 51.&nbsp;

Samson has only played 13 ODIs since his international debut in 2015. He has scored 390 runs, with three fifties,&nbsp;at an average of 55.71. In 12 innings, he has surpassed the 30-run mark on seven occasions. However, he has never managed to get a long rope and has only featured in the absence of regulars. After his knock, former Indian stumper Saba Karim lauded Samson and labelled him as a 'perfect team man'.

<h2>'Sanju Samson is an enigma'</h2>

"Sanju Samson is an enigma for me. He bats so well. He is a gifted player. Today, his innings was like a whiff of fresh air. He said that that his intent was to go out and be aggressive. The way he handled the leg-spinner, who was looking quite good at that point in time, was so refreshing to watch. This is what Sanju Samson is capable of," Saba Karim told JioCinema after India's ODI series triumph over West Indies.

Karim added, "Sanju Samson has not got a series of chances. He has got in only when your regular players have been rested. It's not been an easy journey so far. But the fact remains that Sanju is still raring to go."

"You send him at No.3, he is more than happy. You send him at No.4, he scores a fifty. You send him down the order.. he is always there as a perfect team man. This is a just reward for Samson's persistence to be in the reckoning in the ODI squad."

Samson is part of Hardik-led India's T20I squad for the upcoming five games, which kicks off on August 03. The right-hander will be eager to make some big runs and feature in&nbsp;India's Asia Cup and ODI World Cup campaigns.

In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost by 200 runs. While Ishan and Gill made a strong case ahead of the ODI World Cup, Samson also did well with an attacking 51. Samson has only played 13 ODIs since his international debut in 2015. He has scored 390 runs, with three fifties, at an average of 55.71. In 12 innings, he has surpassed the 30-run mark on seven occasions. However, he has never managed to get a long rope and has only featured in the absence of regulars. After his knock, former Indian stumper Saba Karim lauded Samson and labelled him as a 'perfect team man'. 'Sanju Samson is an enigma' "Sanju Samson is an enigma for me. Also read: Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, says Sanju Samson after a blistering 51 in IND vs WI 3rd ODI Karim added, "Sanju Samson has not got a series of chances. He has got in only when your regular players have been rested. It's not been an easy journey so far. But the fact remains that Sanju is still raring to go." "You send him at No.3, he is more than happy. You send him at No.4, he scores a fifty. You send him down the order.. he is always there as a perfect team man. This is a just reward for Samson's persistence to be in the reckoning in the ODI squad." Samson is part of Hardik-led India's T20I squad for the upcoming five games, which kicks off on August 03. The right-hander will be eager to make some big runs and feature in India's Asia Cup and ODI World Cup campaigns. IND vs WI: 'He hasn't got many chances but remains....' - Former Indian stumper lauds Sanju Samson

On Monday (July 31), the wait for the Indian cricket fans finally got over as Jasprit Bumrah's return was finalised. Bumrah, who has been out of international cricket since September 2022, was named as the captain of a second-string&nbsp;Indian team for the upcoming Ireland T20Is, in Dublin, next month. The Indian pacer's return was keenly awaited and his return is a huge blessing for Indian cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, to be held in India in October-November.&nbsp;

Bumrah's performance, and leadership, will be closely monitored as the ace pacer marks his much-awaited international return. After his name was announced in the squad for the Ireland T20Is, India's former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated Bumrah for his return and being named the captain but hopes he does not get injured again with the ODI WC just a few months away.&nbsp;

Sharing his views on the squad, Harbhajan said in a video on his YouTube channel, "Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback. He was injured for a long time and his return was awaited. He has come back and has been made the captain straightaway. Congratulations to Jassi for becoming the captain and foremost for getting fit. I hope and keep my fingers crossed that Jassi doesn't get injured again."

Fingers crossed that Bumrah doesn't get injured again, says Harbhajan ahead of India's Ireland T20Is

India are set to face West Indies in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 01). With the series levelled at 1-1, there is everything to play for the Rohit Sharma-led visitors as they continue to prepare for the forthcoming World Cup at home, which starts on October 05. Ahead of the final ODI, former India captain Kapil Dev made a glaring remark when he stated that the current Indian players are 'arrogant' and feel they know it all due to their big pay cheques.

In an interview with The Week, Kapil reacted to an old statement from his former teammate Sunil Gavaskar, where the Little Master revealed that&nbsp;the current Indian players have never called him up for help despite going through rough patches, unlike yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, etc.

To this, Kapil opined, "Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything. That's the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can't you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won't hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from."

<h2>'Such questions crop up when....'</h2>

Now, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has reacted to all such claims. In a press conference ahead of the final ODI versus the Windies, Jadeja said, "I didn't know when he said this. I don't search too many things on social media. Everyone has their own opinion. It's nothing like that. Everybody is enjoying their game and working hard. Players are not taking their place in the team for granted. Whenever they are getting chances, they are giving their 100 per cent and trying to win games for India."

"Such questions crop up when India loses a game. Nobody is arrogant. Everybody is representing India. We are working hard and playing for the country. There is no personal agenda," Jadeja added.

Talking about the ODI series opener, Rohit-led India won by five wickets in pursuit of 115 before the Men in Blue rested Rohit and Virat Kohli in the following ODI. Hardik Pandya led the side as the second-stringed Indian team lost by six wickets, in defence of 181. The series is up for grabs and India will be desperate to not concede the series to a team that is not even going to participate in the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

Attacking opener Prithvi Shaw finally landed in the UK on Monday after some logistical delays for his maiden County stint with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC), per the latest reports. The Mumbai-based batter will play his first match against Gloucestershire in a One-Day Cup game on Friday, August 4. The Chief Executive of NCCC, Ray Payne, confirmed the news,&nbsp;welcoming Shaw to the UK.

"I am delighted to say Prithvi arrived in the UK today (Sunday) and will feature in our One-Day Cup starting Friday, August 4. The official announcement (will come) tomorrow (Monday)," Ray Payne, the Chief Executive of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC), told Cricbuzz.

Earlier, with no confirmation from the NCCC over Shaw’s arrival to the country and joining them for the upcoming season, his status remained in limbo.

However, Shaw later managed to secure the NOC from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and was permitted to skip the ongoing Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal one-day championship in Puducherry.

He has joined the likes of David Willey and Andrew Tye in the Steelbacks' side.

The young batter is the fourth Indian after Cheteshwar Pujara, Arshdeep Singh and Navdeep Saini to join English County. Veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane had signed up with Leicestershire but pulled out of his contract to take a break. Rahane, who was out of the side and without a central contract for the upcoming season, made the right noises with his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings.

Starting for MS Dhoni-led team, Rahane scored the fastest fifty of the season against Mumbai Indians and even hit a quick-fire fifty. On the back of those stunning outings, Rahane got picked for the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) Final, where he returned with 89 and 46 across both outings.

<h2>Shaw lost path following dream start</h2>

After leading the Indian Under-19 team to a World Cup title in 2018, Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut against West Indies at Rajkot and scored a hundred on debut. Although he was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shaw lost his path following mediocre outings in Australia, where his inability to tackle the incoming ball got exposed.

Shaw continued to play for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, but couldn’t become a regular in India’s white-ball team, featuring in six ODIs and a lone T20I for the Men in Blue so far.

'Despite money and power, we've become...': Former India pacer lashes out at Rohit Sharma & Co.

Two of India’s premier white-ball spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, often known as 'Kul-Cha' among Indian cricket fans, were once the force to reckon with. However, after losing to England during the 2019 World Cup game, this pair got separated as the Indian Team became sceptical about playing wrist spinners in tandem.

Before being taken down for cleaners by English openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow, the pair of Kul-Cha together played in 34 games, and after that show, both appeared in just three matches.

Fast forward a few years and both remain in the reckoning for the spots in India Team for the 2023 home World Cup.

Kuldeep, who starred with the ball during the first West Indies ODI in Barbados on Thursday (July 27), opened up about his relationship with Chahal and the on-field competition among them. Speaking to the media after returning with figures of 4 for 6, Kuldeep said he and Chahal are relaxed about their relationship, adding instead of feeling any competition, both help each other become better bowlers and understand the value of team combinations.

"We're very relaxed," Kuldeep said after picking Man of the Match award in the first ODI. "We know the combination matters a lot. Sometimes he plays, sometimes I play, and our understanding is very good. We're very normal.

"He helps me a lot when I play; he tells me what I can do, what I can change. He always wants me to do well. When he plays I do the same thing, so that when he plays. he performs well for the team. Maybe this is why the Kul-Cha partnership has worked so well over the years. We support and back each other,” Kuldeep said.

<h2>‘Sitting out because of team combination is normal’</h2>

Although Kuldeep remains the only Indian bowler to pick two ODI hat-tricks, the left-arm unorthodox spinner has sat out of the XI in 184 of 302 matches India played since his debut in 2017. Speaking in detail about how he deals with this situation, Kuldeep said after playing over six years of international cricket, such things are normal for him.

"You often have to sit outside because of the situation or the combination," he said. "It's become a normal thing. I've been playing cricket for such a long time - it's been six, six-and-a-half years [since my debut], and a lot of things have become normal.”

Two of India’s premier white-ball spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, often known as 'Kul-Cha' among Indian cricket fans, were once the force to reckon with.

ALSO READ: WI vs IND, 1st ODI: Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav help India draw first blood, beat West Indies by five wickets "We're very relaxed," Kuldeep said after picking Man of the Match award in the first ODI. ‘Sitting out because of team combination is normal’ Although Kuldeep remains the only Indian bowler to pick two ODI hat-tricks, the left-arm unorthodox spinner has sat out of the XI in 184 of 302 matches India played since his debut in 2017. Speaking in detail about how he deals with this situation, Kuldeep said after playing over six years of international cricket, such things are normal for him. "You often have to sit outside because of the situation or the combination," he said. "It's become a normal thing. I've been playing cricket for such a long time - it's been six, six-and-a-half years [since my debut], and a lot of things have become normal.” WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

In what comes as a massive boost for the Indian Cricket Team, ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah has regained complete fitness and is set to get picked for the Ireland T20Is, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed following a meeting of the Indian body in New Delhi on Thursday (July 27). Shah also revealed the 2023 World Cup schedule will undergo some changes, as requested by several countries concerning the logistics.

"Bumrah is totally fit, and he may go to Ireland," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to return to competitive cricket after a gap of nearly 11 months, having last played for India during the Australia series in September last year. India’s premier seamer suffered a back injury and missed all the action that followed, including the World T20 in Australia, the away Bangladesh series, the home season and the IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians.

Team India missed Bumrah in the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia as Rohit Sharma-led side lost the second successive final, this time by 209 runs.

Bumrah underwent back surgery in March this year, and was undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru alongside KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna and Rishabh Pant.

Upon attaining complete fitness as per guidelines laid by NCA medical staff, Bumrah was expected to be included in the side for the Asia Cup, which starts on August 30 (in Sri Lanka and Pakistan). He will now lead the pace attack in Ireland. The Indian Team will play three T20Is, beginning August 18.

While the Indian Team is in the Caribbean for the white-ball leg that ends with the final T20I in Florida on August 13, the selection committee will name the squad for Ireland T20Is this week.

<h2>Expect changes in World Cup schedule, says Shah</h2>

BCCI secretary Jay Shah also said that, upon accepting requests from several countries regarding logistics, the 2023 World Cup schedule will see some change happening. After consulting with the ICC, the revised schedule will be announced soon.

"There is a possibility there could be a few changes in the schedule. Several Full Member countries have written in requesting to change two or three dates in the schedule. We are working it out with the ICC, and we should be able to clear it in two or three days,” Jay Shah said.

Ahead of the first ODI of the three-match series versus West Indies, in Barbados, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media and gave a fitting reply when asked a repetitive question about Virat Kohli. A&nbsp;reporter asked whether Kohli's lack of tons is a concern for Team India. To this, the national captain Rohit stated that he has answered this query on several occasions in the past and insisted that the team doesn't care about “outside noises.”

“I've answered this question a lot of times. All the outside talk, who scored how many, took how many wickets... people who say such things don't know what happens inside. For us, what happens inside stays inside. We prefer that. For us, the most important is to win matches, not who's talking about what. It doesn't matter to us,” Rohit said in the press conference. He added,&nbsp;“Our priority is the three ODI matches right now, we're focussing on that."

WI vs IND: 'I've answered this a lot of times' - Rohit to reporter when asked about Kohli's lack of big knocks

After winning the two Tests 1-0, India will now face West Indies in the three-match ODI series opener on Thursday (July 27) in Barbados. Ahead of the series opener, captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media and opened up on the likely comeback of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah's last international match was in September 2022 and since then, he has been out of cricketing action due to injury concerns. He is at the National Cricket Acamdey (NCA) and is gearing up for a quick comeback, with the ODI World Cup to kick off on October 05 in India.&nbsp;

While Rohit mentioned that he is not aware of&nbsp;Bumrah's return, as per reports, he might feature in the Ireland T20Is next month. Rohit&nbsp;hopes he&nbsp;is able to play a few games before&nbsp;the ODI World Cup. Speaking to the reporters, he said, "The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he’s coming from a serious injury and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet."

<h2>'Hope he plays before the World Cup'</h2>

Hitman further added, "If he gets to play then it’s good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing. We’ll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment."

Along with Bumrah, India also awaits the return of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant before the 50-over showpiece event in India. While Pant is unlikely to feature in the mega event, Iyer and Rahul are expected to come back sooner than later as the duo are part of India's middle order.&nbsp;

Ahead of the ODI WC, India are set to play over ten games, including the Asia Cup and home ODIs versus five-time champions Australia. For now, they will aim to whitewash the Windies&nbsp;in the Caribbean.

We hope he plays before ODI World Cup: Rohit Sharma opines on Jasprit Bumrah as pacer eyes comeback

India and West Indies played out a tame draw in the second and final Test, in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, after the final day's play got washed out on Monday (July 24). After gaining a whopping 183-run lead, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India accelerated from the word go in their second essay on the fourth day, with rain already making its presence felt. Thus, they managed to set up a challenging 365-run target for the hosts. Day Five was going to be a tough contest between bat and ball, with West Indies in search of 289 more runs whereas India needed eight more scalps for a win.

Nonetheless, rain played spoilsport to the entire day as honours were shared with India winning the series 1-0. Talking about Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s approach in the second innings, it impressed one and all as the visitors declared at 181 for 2 in just 24 overs (with a run rate of 7.54). Thus, many compared India's style of play with England's Bazball. Recently, Ishan Kishan -- who slammed an unbeaten 34-ball 52 in India's second essay&nbsp;-- opined on England's Bazball and made a big claim.&nbsp;

Kishan feels England's Bazball is only possible on flat tracks. "It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also," he told the reporters after Day five of the second Test got completely washed out.

<h2>'Don't think it is necessary that we must play...'</h2>

The 25-year-old added, "If the wicket is flat, where you can score quickly, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don't think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks. I don't think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket."

A lot has been said and written about England's Bazball approach in the red-ball format ever since Ben Stokes became the captain along with Brendon McCullum joining in as the head coach&nbsp;in early 2022. Since then, the Three Lions have been on a roll in whites but lost a golden opportunity to win a home Ashes series in the ongoing 2023 edition after the fourth and penultimate Test, in Manchester, ended in a draw. Pat Cummins-led Aussies lead the five-match series 2-1.&nbsp;

IND vs WI: Ishan Kishan not in favour of England's Bazball, says it can only be executed on flat tracks

Seamer Mukesh Kumar, who made his Test debut against West Indies during the second Test in Trinidad, hasn’t felt out of place since, thanks to the seniors, especially former captain Virat Kohli, who made him feel surreal on the field. Kohli, who also made his Test debut against West Indies in 2012, knows what it means to wear whites and represent India in this format.

Speaking to fellow fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh revealed how just one hug from Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma following his maiden Test wicket made him feel overwhelmed. Mukesh, who had to fight hard for a place in the Indian side, picked up two wickets in the first innings, including Kirk McKenzie.&nbsp;

The right-hand fast bowler had to toil hard on the lifeless Trinidad pitch as it wasn’t easy to pick wickets for any bowler.

The BCCI's latest statement on injury updates of several star players, including Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna, did lift the morale of fans on Friday, and as per latest reports, a board member privy to the information has revealed the tentative date around which Rishabh Pant's anticipated return to international cricket could happen.

The release stated while both seamers (Bumrah and Prasidh) have almost regained full fitness and are raring to go, Pant is also recovering at a significant pace, with the keeper-batter said to have resumed batting and keeping but under medical guidance.&nbsp;

While the board and the team management aren't looking at Pant at least until the home World Cup later this year, as per a report in the Times of India, the left-handed batter might recover earliest by the home England series next year, scheduled for January-February window.

Following the 2023 World Cup (from October 5 to November 19), India will travel to South Africa for a bilateral tour, and upon returning, will host England for a five-match Test series.

“He (Pant) is currently following a fitness programme designed for him which includes strength, flexibility and running,” BCCI said in its statement.&nbsp;

“Perhaps, a realistic target for Pant would be the five-Test home series against England in January-February next year,” a source said, as quoted by TOI.

<h2>SKY likely to lead India in Ireland T20Is</h2>

With BCCI's new selection committee set to rest star players, including regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami among the few, for the three-match Ireland T20Is, latest reports also suggested the stand-in T20I captain Hardik Pandya and opener Shubman Gill will also be rested.

Given India's tight cricket calendar, the BCCI wants to manage the workload of first-team players for the World Cup.

Although no official comments on the same are issued, top T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav could captain the new-look T20I team in Hardik's absence for Ireland series, which starts on August 18, five days after the end of the 5th T20I against West Indies in Florida, said the report.

Besides, star seamer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return to competitive cricket for the first time since September last year. With him nearing full fitness, the team management needs to utilise him carefully, considering India will travel to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup and then have Australia coming home for a short ODI series before the World Cup.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has tipped Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to take Indian cricket forward once the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retire. Both Kohli and Rohit are in the last phase of their careers. Thus, Team India is focused in grooming the youngsters to keep the team in good stead by the time Kohli, Rohit, R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhawan, etc. retire.

<h2>'Jaiswal and Gill&nbsp;strong contenders to take Indian cricket's batting&nbsp;forward after Rohit&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kohli'</h2>

Thus, Jaffer feels young stars such as Jaiswal and Gill have it in them to take over the baton from Kohli and Rohit once the duo steps aside. During a discussion on JioCinema, he stated, "One is Yashasvi Jaiswal. I see him as a three-format player. He has performed amazingly well in the IPL and has made an excellent start in Test cricket."

"Shubman Gill is the second name I will take. If we talk only about batting, I see these two players as very strong contenders who will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,"&nbsp;Jaffer further opined.

In addition, Jaffer also picked Gujarat Titans' (GT) Sai Sudharsan as another strong candidate to handle India's batting responsibilities in future. "Sai Sudharsan is a player who I have liked a lot, the way he has played in the IPL. After that, he has scored a century against Pakistan A in the emerging teams' tournament that is going on. So I feel he can become a very good player in the future," added the former batter who represented India in 31 Tests and two ODIs.

Jaiswal and Gill have been in splendid form in 2023. Gill has scored hundreds across formats -- including a double ton in ODIs -- and was the Orange Cap winner for most runs (890) in IPL 2023. Jaiswal also ended this year's IPL with 625 runs, including a best of 124, and scored a sublime 171 in his debut Test in the ongoing West Indies tour.

Sudharshan, on the other hand, had a good run in IPL 2023, followed by consistent performances in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Recently, he also scored a century versus Pakistan in the ongoing Emerging Asia Cup tournament.

Jaiswal, Gill will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, predicts Wasim Jaffer

Former Australia quick Jason Gillespie feels Jasprit Bumrah’s absence is being felt dearly, and for what the India pacer brings to the table, his comeback would be grander for the Men in Blue. The ace seamer has been out of action since September last year due to a back injury.

As per the latest reports, he is training hard at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, preparing for his much-anticipated comeback during the Ireland series, which&nbsp;starts August 18th.&nbsp;

In an exclusive chat with Times of India, Gillespie, who starred for the Aussies during their golden period from the late 1990s to early 2000s, heaped praises on Bumrah, saying he is unlike every other pacer nowadays and with his ability to hit the pitch hard and cramp batters for room makes him special.

"I think his (Bumrah's) absence is being felt because he's one of the best bowlers in the world. Anytime a team is missing one of their best bowlers, it's going to have an effect on them. India definitely missed him. He's an immense bowler. He's a big tall man. He hits the pitch hard. He's a different style of bowler. From all the feedback I've heard from batsmen around the world, he hits the bat a lot. He's quicker than a lot of people than the speed gun suggests," Gillespie said as quoted by TOI.

In his absence, India suffered big time during the World T20 in Australia last year, going down by ten wickets against England in the semis. Also, for the second-straight time, India suffered a loss in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against the Oz at the Oval. Now, with India aiming to win the Asia Cup in the lead-up to the home World Cup later this year, Bumrah’s return will be a pivotal moment for India.

<h2>‘Players like Bumrah are gold-dust’</h2>

Talking highly of Bumrah, Gillespie noted that players like him are assets for any team, and his record in the limited white-ball games he played for India is nothing less than impressive. Gillespie added India needs Bumrah as he can change things around in no time.

"He (Bumrah) hits the bat a lot harder and a lot higher than you expect. Those sorts of bowlers are gold dust, and his record, for the amount of games he's played, is quite immense. His absence is being felt in Team India. Hopefully, he'll be back in the park really soon because we all want to see the best players playing. Bumrah is a wonderful, and we would love to see him on the park soon," the former Aussie quick added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Team is currently in the Caribbean Island for the long tour and will travel to Ireland for the three-match T20Is, where Bumrah is expected to make his comeback.

R Ashwin was not part of India's XI in their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final versus Australia, held last month at The Oval, London. India lost the game by 209 runs and many raised fingers at Rohit Sharma-led team management for overlooking the veteran off-spinner. Ahead of India's first game in the 2023-25 WTC cycle, Ashwin gave an interview, where he opened up on his WTC final snub, equation with his teammates, etc.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ashwin opened up on the team environment and reflected on his equation with the Team India members. In this regard, he pointed out, "This is an era where everybody is a colleague. Once upon a time when cricket was played, all your teammates were friends. Now, they’re colleagues. There’s a big difference because here people are there to advance themselves and to stride ahead of another person sitting to your right or left. So nobody’s got the time to say, ‘okay, boss what are you up to’?"

<h2>'There aren't much friendships, it isn't like family'</h2>

Now, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra shared his take on Ashwin's claims, which have made heads turn in the cricketing fraternity. He recalled the highly successful Australian team of the late 1990s and early 2000s and claimed even they didn't like each other, but became a different unit once they stepped inside the 22-yard cricket strip.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "They (Australian team members) didn't really like each other as much, which is ok. But as soon as they crossed the boundary, there were unstoppable. It was almost impossible to stop them. A star-studded team that played for each other. It wasn't as if Ian Healy refused to catch on Shane Warne's delivery, or someone missed a run-out chance because they didn't like the other. Everybody was trying their best to make Australia win. And it isn't just one example, it happens with a lot of teams."

Talking about Ashwin, the 36-year-old is currently involved in India's two-match Test series versus West Indies in the Caribbean island. The veteran spinner ended with a 12-wicket haul in the opening Test, which India won by an innings and 141 runs, and is now gearing up for the second and final match in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad starting on Thursday (July 20).

'Australian players didn't like each other much...': Ex-India opener on R Ashwin's 'dressing room' remark

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star performer for Team India in their massive win over West Indies in the two-match Test series opener in Dominica. The left-hander started his Test career with an impressive 171 to become the 17th Indian to hit a century on Test debut, 113th overall. Jaiswal started on a promising note and never looked out of sorts to make a roaring start to his international career.&nbsp;

Ever since Jaiswal announced his arrival in style at the international level, talks are rife that he should be given a run in the white-ball formats as well. While India have only a handful of games left prior to the ODI World Cup's commencement, at home, some feel Jaiswal can still be tried in the 50-over format. Former Indian skipper and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has backed Jaiswal to be a part of the ODI WC squad. In conversation with the Telegraph on the young player, Ganguly heaped praise on the 21-year-old and feels he is a 'must' for the ODI WC squad.

“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” Ganguly emphasised.

'Having him in ODI World Cup squad is a must': Sourav Ganguly calls for THIS young Indian star's inclusion

Team India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the two-match Test series opener in Dominica. The second and final Test kicks off on July 20 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. In recent years, India have dominated the red-ball format and also reached the knockouts in all ICC events, barring the 2021 T20 World Cup, but have failed to win the&nbsp;silverware.&nbsp;

Little Master Sunil Gavaskar recently took a dig at modern-day Indian captains and how they enjoy enough security despite not being able to win ICC titles or facing heavy defeats. Gavaskar feels there should be more accountability to be taken by the captains and coaches of the team.&nbsp;

<h2>'This has been happening since 2011'</h2>

"Whether you win or lose, the captain knows that he is going to be there. This has not been a recent case, mind you. This has been happening since 2011. There have been results where we have been wiped out in the series 0-4, 0-4 but the captain hasn't changed," said former India captain Gavaskar while speaking to&nbsp;the Indian Express Idea Exchange.

Gavaskar's statement can perhaps be seen as a question towards MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper. While Dhoni enjoyed good success as a white-ball captain, India were miserable during their away tours of England (in 2011/12 and 2014), Australia (in 2011/12) and South Africa&nbsp;and New Zealand (in&nbsp;2013/14) under the former Indian wicketkeeper.&nbsp;

However, Dhoni retained the Test captaincy until he retired from the format in late 2014 during the Australia tour. From thereon, Virat Kohli took over and led India to the No. 1 ranking (with the team faring well in away tours as well).

Similarly, the likes of Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not led India to an ICC title&nbsp;after the end of Dhoni's successful era as the white-ball skipper. However, Kohli remained Test and T20I captain till the time he decided to step aside, but was sacked as the ODI skipper.

After India's 2021-23 WTC final loss to Australia, many raised fingers at Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid as well. However, the duo continue to hold their respective posts. But things might change if India fail to win the ICC ODI World Cup, at home, later this year.

Team India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the two-match Test series opener in Dominica. The second and final Test kicks off on July 20 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. In recent years, India have dominated the red-ball format and also reached the knockouts in all ICC events, barring the 2021 T20 World Cup, but have failed to win the silverware. Little Master Sunil Gavaskar recently took a dig at modern-day Indian captains and how they enjoy enough security despite not being able to win ICC titles or facing heavy defeats. Gavaskar feels there should be more accountability to be taken by the captains and coaches of the team. 'This has been happening since 2011' "Whether you win or lose, the captain knows that he is going to be there. This has not been a recent case, mind you. This has been happening since 2011. There have been results where we have been wiped out in the series 0-4, 0-4 but the captain hasn't changed," said former India captain Gavaskar while speaking to the Indian Express Idea Exchange. 'We've been wiped out 0-4 but....': Sunil Gavaskar wants Indian captains to be more liable for heavy defeats

Rahul Dravid-led coaching panel will get the much-required rest during the three-match Ireland T20Is, which starts on August 18 in Dublin. Along with Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour&nbsp;and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who are currently in the Caribbean for the long tour that ends with the final two T20Is in the USA,&nbsp;will head home to rest and prepare for the Asia Cup that gets underway on August 31. In their absence, NCA head, VVS Laxman-led team will coach the Men in Blue in Ireland.

Looking at the packed calendar ahead, with the multi-team tournament in Asia Cup, the white-ball series against Australia and the home World Cup that begins on October 5, BCCI opting for the rotational policy with coaches&nbsp;makes sense.

Interestingly, during last year's Ireland series also, VVS Laxman led the Indian Team as the board decided to rest Dravid &amp; Co.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, other than Laxman, two other members, each from the batting (either Sitanshu Kotak or Hrishikesh Kanitkar) and bowling (either Troy Cooley or Sairaj Bahutule) departments, will travel to Ireland for the three-match T20Is.

<h2>Chief selector Ajit Agarkar to join Team India in WI soon</h2>

The newly-appointed chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, is reported to be joining the squad in West Indies ahead of the second Test that starts on Wednesday, July 19, in Port of Spain, while Salil Ankola - a member of the selection committee, is already travelling with the team.

Ajit's purpose in travelling to the Caribbean Islands is to sit with captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid and talk about potential selections for the Ireland series and the Asia Cup that follows.&nbsp;

Though no official word is out on how India's T20I Team in Ireland will look, earlier reports suggested all-rounder Hardik Pandya will continue to lead. Seniors, including Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, are again likely to get rested.&nbsp;

The big news, however, was the potential return of Jasprit Bumrah for the Ireland series. Bumrah, currently training at the NCA in Bengaluru, is said to be sending down good eight to ten overs regularly and is nearing complete fitness.&nbsp;

The same cannot be said about batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. While Iyer has resumed batting at the NCA, nothing has been said about Rahul's return to the side.

Meanwhile, as things stand, India is leading the two-match Test series against West Indies 1-0 after winning the first Test by a whopping margin of an innings and 141 runs.

Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff to be rested for Ireland series; NCA head VVS Laxman likely to fill shoes

India has missed Jasprit Bumrah for the past year, and with two major multi-team tournaments coming up in Asia Cup and the home World Cup later in 2023, his presence in the squad will make a difference. Team India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey shared a similar opinion following India’s win in the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

He said several rounds of talks surrounding workload management for the bowlers are already happening within the camp, and the board will look into giving required rest to key players considering the jam-packed schedule going forward.

“If we look at the last 1-1.5 years, Bumrah is one player we missed a lot. As of now, there haven’t been any discussions on who will play white ball and who will play red ball, but going forward, we have to give breaks to individual bowlers. The moment we give a break to a bowler, we can bring another one, which will create bench strength,” India’s bowling coach said when asked about giving rest to players.

Bumrah - the ace seamer, has been out of action since September last year due to a back injury. Upon getting under the knife early in 2023, Bumrah is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and as latest reports suggest, he is slowly regaining complete fitness.

Though it remains unclear when he will return in the reckoning for selection, Team India brought in several newcomers in the meantime, with mostly all getting good chances.

“A lot of other bowlers, like Mukesh, who have done well in Ranji cricket, and bowlers who have been also part of the team like Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh, there will be an opportunity to work with them,” Mhambrey added.

<h2>‘Mukesh is an interesting talent’</h2>

Mukesh Kumar is one player who rose through the ranks, and thanks to his consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy and IPL 2023, he keeps getting picked, and Mhambrey feels it’s about time before he breaks into Indian XI across format.

“He is a very interesting talent, one thing is he is coming on the back of a lot of hard work and performance. He knows the value of himself. We have been following his performance for the last couple of years and how he has been performing in the Ranji Trophy,” Mhambrey said.

Mhambrey added India need bench strength, and Mukesh can help the team click this box.

“This is my opportunity to work with him and create bench strength. We have Siraj now, who is bowling well, and to supplement him, we have Shami and Bumrah there, and we need to create a bench strength, even beyond that. It is a good opportunity for Mukesh to sit with the people here talk to them, and learn. There are a lot of senior bowlers here for him to interact with,” Mhambrey added.

'In the last one year, Bumrah is one player we missed a lot,' says India's bowling coach after Test win vs WI

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the future star. The young left-handed batter, on Thursday, became only the third Indian opener and 17th overall batter to complete a debut Test ton. Against West Indies in the ongoing first Test in Dominica, Jaiswal looked on the song, and alongside fellow opener and centurion Rohit Sharma, who also hit a hundred (103), contributed 229 for the first wicket.

Following the end of day two, where he remained unbeaten on 143 off 350 balls, Jaiswal thanked the team management for granting him this opportunity.

Speaking to the media after the day’s play, Jaiswal said he was happy to express himself, adding this is just the beginning for him on the international stage. He also admitted getting emotional over this, considering the grind he had to go through to get here.

"I've just gone out to express myself, thankful for everyone; this is just a start, and I want to do well going further," Jaiswal said after the second day’s play. <h2>‘Tough conditions, challenging pitch’</h2>

The surface on offer for the first Test is on the slower side, and Jaiswal echoed the same words, adding with the slow outfield and sun baking down, it was challenging to put runs on the board.

Jaiswal, who had shown promise at the junior, domestic and IPL level, having starred for Rajasthan Royals in the latest season, admitted loving Test cricket of all formats and said he likes new challenges coming his way.

"The pitch is on the slower side, and the outfield is very slow, it was difficult and challenging, it was pretty hot, and I wanted to keep doing it for my country, just play ball-by-ball and enjoy my cricket. I love Test cricket, I like this challenge, and I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams. We have worked hard on everything," Jaiswal added.

Meanwhile, India stands tall as things stand in Dominica, with them leading by 162 runs. While Rohit also completed his hundred, Shubman Gill – a new makeshift number three in the absence of Cheteshwar Pujara, failed to impress, getting out on just six. Virat Kohli is unbeaten on 36 from 96 balls.

WI vs IND 2023: Yashasvi Jaiswal thanks management following debut Test ton, says 'this is just a start'

Rohit Sharma-led India&nbsp;kicked off their tour of West Indies on Wednesday (July 12) on Day One of the first Test. The&nbsp;day's play was headlined by R Ashwin's five-wicket haul, 5 for 60, as the Windies were bundled out for 150 -- opting to bat first -- before Rohit (30 not out) and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal (unbeaten 40) took India to 80 for no loss.

Ahead of the two-match Test series opener, Rohit addressed the pre-match presser and revealed India's batting order. He confirmed that Shubman Gill -- who has been opening for India across formats -- will be batting at No. 3, a request he himself came up with prior to the Dominica Test.

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opened up on Gill's request and admitted 'neither does anyone make that request, nor anyone is given that luxury' but feels the move might work for Team India.

<h2>'You don't see a player telling team management that he likes to...'</h2>

Chopra said on his official YouTube channel, "Shubman Gill told team management that he wanted to play at no.3. It's a very interesting thing, because you don't usually hear such things happening in Indian cricket. You don't see a player telling team management that he likes to bat in a particular position. Neither does anyone make that request, nor anyone is given that luxury. But the good thing is Yashasvi Jaiswal can now open."

He opined, "But in Test cricket, if there's one difficult job, it's that of opener. Especially away from home. No. 3 is still a challenging spot, but no. 4 is the most settled spot and you usually keep your best batter in that spot. You don't want him to bat with the tail.

“Shubman at no.3, I'm not surprised. I tweeted in 2020 that he would play long for India but in few years time, you would see him batting in the middle. Now, he has himself expressed that wish,” Chopra added.

Thus, Gill is replacing Cheteshwar Pujara at the No. 3 spot after the latter was dropped for the WI series following a streak of ordinary performances in the 2021-23 WTC cycle.

'Neither does anyone make such demand, nor...': Ex-India opener on Shubman Gill asking to bat at No. 3

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan made their Test debuts on Day 1 of India's first Test versus West Indies in Dominica on Wednesday (July 12). While Kishan accounted for two dismissals behind the stumps, Jaiswal made a promising start with the bat, being unbeaten on 40 when India went to stumps at 80 for no loss in response to West Indies' paltry 150.

Jaiswal started his innings with a lot of confidence and looked in good touch as he went to stumps remaining unbeaten along with captain Rohit Sharma (30 not out). After his Test debut, former Australia cricketer&nbsp;Tom Moody&nbsp;heaped praise on him and made a bold claim on his red-ball career.

<h2>'No doubt he'll leave a significant footprint'</h2>

"If the story of Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t been compelling enough, his test journey has launched. There's no doubt he'll leave a significant footprint in this format," Moody wrote on Twitter.

Jaiswal has been in superb form of late. In IPL 2023, he was a regular for the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) and ended the season with 625 runs -- fifth-most -- at an average of 48.08, including a best of 124 (one hundred, five fifties).
