So to me he was set up to fail in a way,” Moody told ESPNCricinfo.

“For me, Shubman Gill should have been the person to play to begin with. His technique is a lot more water tight and he’s shown that he’s got a wonderful temperament. Cricket Australia on Friday said that the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India is still on despite a fresh COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney. The CA said that the situation is being closely monitored but was confident of pulling off the Test match.

Australian cricket authorities were put on alert after number of coronavirus cases in Sydney reached 28 on Friday. The third Test between India and Australia at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground is slated to be played from January 7.&nbsp;

"There's been lots of discussion and meetings of our medical experts, but this is the reason why throughout the summer we've had our players in bubbles in the hub," CA's interim chief executive Nick Hockley told SEN Radio.&nbsp;

On whether the SCG Test was in doubt, Hockley said: "I don't think so - this is the very reason why we have the hubs in place... "... whether it's the WBBL players, the BBL players, the BCCI, our own Australia squads, they have been absolutely fantastic in dealing with all the protocols.

"Our medical experts have been working around the clock, we're in very good communication with health authorities around the country. It's one of the things we've had to navigate with getting cricket up safely."&nbsp;

The latest Sydney outbreak has already had an impact on the broadcasters with former Aussie pacer and Fox Cricket commentator Brett Lee decided to go back home in northern Sydney. Whereas two Sydney-based members of the broadcasters returned back to their home base while two others decided to work from hotel.

"We've got contingency plans around a whole range of different options, and we've had to be agile all the way through. We were encouraged that it was 17 cases yesterday and ten today, and we'll see how that plays out over the next 72 hours."&nbsp;

Before the third Test, the second match is scheduled to start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Deceber 26 and its chief Stuart Fox said they are open to supporting CA if need be.&nbsp;

"We hope that doesn't happen to Sydney. We know what it's like to lose a major event. For us, all focus is on the Boxing Day Test," he was quoted as saying by 'Sydney Morning Herald'. "We're here to support Cricket Australia if need be."

"I have always been myself. The way my personality and character is... it is the representation of a new India. It's how we have started to stand up as a team, and my personality has always been like this from day one," Kohli said.

But my job is to face the ball that is coming down to me wherever I am batting,” said the 26-year-old, who has played 14 Tests so far.

Labuschagne said he is ready to do whatever is the best for the team. “If the team needs me to open, that’s what I will do. It’s a team sport, it’s about winning games. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out with a few other moving parts currently.”

The Australian talked about his preparations against India's bowling attack under lights. “We’re obviously prepared. We played (Jasprit) Bumrah in one-dayers and in the last ODI he really ramped it up and bowled very well. For us, we know who we are coming up against.

“So, it’s just making sure we are really focussed and understand what bowlers are doing. We know which bowlers we are playing (against) and we make sure that we prepare accordingly.”

In what comes as a massive blow to Australian cricket team, star opening batsman David Warner has been ruled out of the first Test against India, starting December 17 in Adelaide, but will try and return for the Boxing Day Test.

Warner suffered a strained adductor muscle that forced him to walk out of Australia’s second ODI against India in November following a stunning knock of 83.&nbsp;

"I feel I have made great progress in a short amount of time and it's best for me to stay here in Sydney to continue working on getting back to full fitness," the 34-year-old said in a statement.

"The injury feels a lot better, but I need to be able to satisfy in my own mind and to my team-mates that it is 100 percent ready for Test match conditions.

With the limited-overs series working as a curtain-raiser for the much-awaited Test series, the Indian team would look to gain their confidence back. Question marks have been raised on the Indian bowling attack, which was hailed the last time India visited Australia in 2018-19.

And without Ishant Sharma and his experience, it could be too much to do for Bumrah and Shami unless the visitors find another hero. But sometimes we are hard on these players. The bio-secure bubbles, so many restrictions due to coronavirus; these things take a toll on you slowly. We don’t see it from our television sets but it gradually affects the performance of players. Having said that, the Indian attack is looking a bit jaded,” Buchanan, who coached Australia from 1999 to 2007 opined.

“Virat Kohli’s absence is a great deal and I think it can be the difference in the Test series. Not only his absence on the field but off it as well. He is the one who passes on the confidence and pump. For Rohit Sharma, if he is there then it will be a big boost for India. Since the last few years, Kohli and Rohit have determined how India play on the field and if they both are absent then it is a major headache for India,” the Queensland Sport Hall of Famer said.

A car waited outside the Sydney Cricket Ground to take the senior player to a nearby hospital for undergoing scans. Asked about the opener's condition at the post-match presentation ceremony, Australian skipper Aaron Finch said he was not aware of its severity but didn't expect the southpaw to be available.

"No idea. We've got to reshuffle it around, I don't think he'll be available," Finch said after the 51-run triumph which gave the home side an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-ODI series.

Considering the way Warner grimaced in pain after falling while diving to stop the ball, it appears he could not only miss the third and final ODI but also the following three-match T20 series.

The T20 games are scheduled to start on December 4 in Canberra. Teammates Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and physio David Beakley helped Warner take the first few steps on his way to the Australian dressing room, from where he headed straight to the hospital.

Stationed at the mid-off before getting injured, Warner had earlier made a brisk 83 in Australia's 389 for four in the second ODI after starting the series with a 69-run knock on Friday. The final 50-over fixture will be played in Canberra on Wednesday.

The limited overs engagement will be followed by a marquee four-match Test series between the two heavyweights of international cricket.

The Test series will begin in Adelaide on December 17, which is less than three weeks away. The former vice-captain's injury comes two days after Marcus Stoinis suffered a side strain during the ODI series-opener.

Skipper Virat Kohli will return to India after playing the first Test against Australia that will begin on December 17 in Adelaide. Indian commentator Sanjay Manjerakar feels that Kohli's absence is a huge setback for India despite having players like Rahane, Pujara in the squad.

"Kohli not being there, after the first Test is a massive setback. In foreign conditions, Kohli is half the Indian batting, Pujara stepped up last time in Australia, Kohli has been India’s most dependable player in foreign conditions," Manjrekar told news agency ANI.

"So his absence will be a huge setback. This particular series against Australia is a test of the depth of India’s cricket talent in Tests," Manjrekar added.

However, Manjrekar feels that Rahane will be crucial for India after Kohli's departure.&nbsp;

"In Virat’s absence, Ajinkya Rahane should step up and bat at number four. Hanuma Vihari can bat at number five, if Shubman is tried in the middle order, then he should bat at number six," Manjrekar further said.

"Rahane has been averaging more than 50 in his last nine Tests, we will have to wait and see whether Rahane steps up. In fact, it’s a question of the entire batting line-up stepping up. We have only seen them in white-ball cricket," he added.
