Meanwhile, Balogun received a straight red card following a video review for stepping on a Bosnia-Herzegovina defender's foot in the round-of-32 match that the US won 2-0. However, FIFA said the ban will now be suspended for a year, in a decision that sparked widespread condemnation from the football world. US President Donald Trump renewed his feud with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after posting a bizarre photo on Truth Social on Sunday night. The image is from the G7 Summit and shows Meloni looking at Trump, with the words "Restraining order needed" written on top. It is not clear what he was trying to imply, although it is possible that his latest post will escalate tensions between him and Meloni. Soon after the G7 Summit was over, Trump claimed that Meloni "begged" him for a photo. &nbsp;In response, Meloni posted a video slamming Trump for making the absurd claim.&nbsp;The US President said she practically pleaded for the photo, and that he didn't have to take it but agreed because he "felt sorry for her". He claimed Melon was suffering from poor ratings and wanted to stage the photo to improve them. Meloni lashed out and said, "Neither I nor Italy ever beg." She said Trump's claims were "completely fabricated" and "senseless". She expressed shock that Trump was treating his allies worse than his adversaries.

Trump did not stop at this and doubled down on his claim. He wrote on Truth Social that Meloni asked "over and over" for the photo. Meloni hit back and mocked Trump for being obsessed with her poll numbers. "In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours," she said.Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/i-am-not-anti-american-italian-pm-meloni-opens-up-days-after-pub">'I am not anti-American...': Italian PM Meloni opens up days after public spat with Trump</a>&nbsp;https://www.wionews.com/videos/trump-meloni-clash-a-g7-summit-photo-op-turns-into-a-political-storm-1782007012461/embed<h2>Trump and Meloni feud</h2>Trump and Meloni had earlier locked horns over America's demand to allow its military permission to use Italian airbases and runways for offensive strikes against Iran. Italy was not in favour of it, and Meloni said that such actions required strict parliamentary backing. Trump blasted her for "lack of courage." When Pope Leo XIV expressed his displeasure with war and violence, Trump openly hit back at him. Meloni called his remarks against the pontiff "unacceptable", which did not go down well with the US President.

President Donald Trump praised FIFA on Sunday (July 5) after the governing body suspended Folarin Balogun's one-match ban, allowing the United States striker to feature in Monday's FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Belgium. Balogun had been due to miss the knockout fixture after receiving a straight red card during the USA's 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Round of 32. The dismissal came after a VAR review determined that Balogun had stepped on the foot of Tarik Muharemovic.&nbsp;Under FIFA regulations, a straight red card normally carries an automatic one-match suspension that cannot be appealed by the player's team. However, FIFA announced on Sunday that the suspension would instead be placed on hold for a probationary period of one year. The organisation did not provide a detailed explanation for the decision. Reacting to the development, Trump posted on Truth Social: "Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!"&nbsp;Balogun has played a pivotal role in the United States' World Cup campaign, scoring three goals in the tournament, including a brace in the opening victory over Paraguay. His availability is expected to strengthen the USA's attack against Belgium in Seattle.US head coach Mauricio Pochettino had previously criticized the red card decision, arguing that Balogun's challenge did not warrant a dismissal. Pochettino said Balogun should ‘never’ have received a red card for the incident, insisting his player had simply been "fighting for the ball" and the contact was not intentional.&nbsp;Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/england-face-boos-storm-threats-and-altitude-challenge-before-fifa-world-cup-clash-against-mexico-1783193214122">England face boos, storm threats and altitude challenge before FIFA World Cup clash against Mexico</a>

He also said at the time that it 'should be fair' to appeal the decision. After learning from a FIFA spokesperson that the suspension could not be appealed under the existing rules, Pochettino acknowledged that he would need to consider "different options" for his attacking lineup against Belgium. Speaking before FIFA's latest decision, Balogun accepted the initial punishment. He told reporters on Friday the red card ban was ‘something I have to just accept’ and that he was focused on simply supporting his teammates from the stands.&nbsp;FIFA confirmed that its disciplinary committee approved the suspension of the sanction. The governing body said, “In line with article 27 of the FIFA disciplinary code, the implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year.” It further added, "If Folarin Balogun commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement."&nbsp;The decision follows a previous case involving Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who received a three-match suspension after being sent off for an elbow against Ireland during World Cup qualifying. FIFA later suspended two of those three matches, enabling Ronaldo to participate earlier than originally expected. The ruling was welcomed by members of the US squad ahead of the Belgium encounter.

Christian Pulisic said, “Obviously for us it gives us a boost.” US Soccer also issued an official statement following FIFA's decision, "We accept the decision of the Disciplinary Committee and are pleased that Folarin Balogun is eligible to compete tomorrow."The federation added, “Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle, and we look forward to the continued support of our amazing fans.” The suspension means Balogun is now available for one of the USA's biggest matches of the tournament as it seeks a place in the World Cup quarterfinals.

US President Donald Trump, in his Independence Eve speech at Mount Rushmore, called communism a “mortal threat to American liberty”, an enemy of the American Constitution, an enemy of July 4, 1776 and “the enemy” in general. He claimed that American identity was facing an attack from the “radicals and extremists” and the menace of communism. He drew a parallel between communism and the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.&nbsp;&nbsp;“You can be loyal to Karl Marx, or you can be loyal to America. You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both,” said Trump in his half-hour speech at Mount Rushmore. Trump swore as part of his Independence Day speech to “vanquish communism quickly.” “Do not let them take too much of your time,” Trump added. The Independence Eve pre-program was disrupted by hail and rain as guests had to quickly seek shelter.“We come to this beautiful mountain — and it is beautiful — to express our gratitude to those who made it possible, starting with the four men most responsible for reaching this milestone, more than any others,” said Trump.Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/parliament-monsoon-session-2026-key-bills-delimitation-1783098265827">Monsoon Session 2026: Key bills, delimitation push and major political realignments to watch</a>Observers note that Trump is using the 250th Independence Day as a platform for his mid-term campaign. Donald Trump stumped everyone when he bizarrely called himself the “best president in the history of Israel” in a new interview. Speaking to CNBC, the 80-year-old also questioned how a Jewish person can vote for Democrats. He said to Joe Kernen, "How a Jewish person can vote for a Democrat is beyond me. I’ve been the best president in the history of Israel." Trump also said that he "was at 99 per cent or something" in Israel, apparently talking about his ratings in the country, which also makes no sense.&nbsp;Confused viewers took to social media to express surprise at what Trump said on television. “Does Trump think he's President of Israel???” a user wrote. Another said, "Somebody needs to tell him he's not the President of Israel, he's supposed to be the President of the United States." Another said, "Literally admitting he is the president of Israel." One quipped, "OH OK we live in United States of Iseral make sense make sene." (sic) &nbsp;

Donald Trump stumped everyone when he bizarrely called himself the “best president in the history of Israel” in a new interview. Speaking to CNBC, the 80-year-old also questioned how a Jewish person can vote for Democrats. He said to Joe Kernen, "How a Jewish person can vote for a Democrat is beyond me. I’ve been the best president in the history of Israel." Trump also said that he "was at 99 per cent or something" in Israel, apparently talking about his ratings in the country, which also makes no sense. Confused viewers took to social media to express surprise at what Trump said on television. “Does Trump think he's President of Israel???” a user wrote. Another said, "Somebody needs to tell him he's not the President of Israel, he's supposed to be the President of the United States." Another said, "Literally admitting he is the president of Israel." One quipped, "OH OK we live in United States of Iseral make sense make sene." (sic)

<h2>Biden demands Nobel Peace Prize for Trump</h2>Biden mocked Trump for demanding the Nobel Peace Prize multiple times, claiming that he had successfully settled or prevented "eight major wars", saving millions of lives. "They don't think eight wars are enough, even though nobody has ever done one... With Iran now dictating terms on the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump seemingly tried to deflect attention. Claiming that China is trying to seize control of the Panama canal, he slammed the 1977 decision of U.S. to cede control of this strategic waterway to the local government. The Panama canal is of vital importance for America as 40% of U.S. container traffic passes through it.

United States President Donald Trump has congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping after the US Supreme Court's recent birthright citizenship decision. The US Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to strike down a presidential executive order that sought to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented parents born on US soil. The landmark decision upheld the 14th Amendment's citizenship clause, affirming that virtually all babies born in the United States maintain their constitutional right to American citizenship. However, all eyes turned to Trump when he unexpectedly congratulated Xi Jinping. Fresh confusion over U.S.-Iran diplomacy. President Donald Trump says Iran requested talks in Doha, calling the meeting "perhaps important, perhaps not." The US Supreme Court on Monday (Jun 29) handed President Donald Trump sweeping powers to fire members of certain independent agencies at will. For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States scheduled for the next 21 and 22 June," Tajani wrote on X. Also Read: Italy headed for early elections? After feud with Trump, report claims Meloni is fearing drop in her popularity What Trump said after G7? Trump and Meloni had multiple interactions at the June 2026 G7 summit in France. After the summit, speaking exclusively in a phone interview with Italian broadcaster La7, Trump said that Meloni "begged me to take a photo with her. She wanted a photo with me so badly. I might not have done it, but I felt sorry for her." He asked the correspondent: “How is your Prime Minister? How is she?” When asked to further comment on the conversation he had with Meloni on the sidelines of the Evian summit, Trump added, “She's probably happy I spoke to her. I wasn't obliged to speak to her.” Trump slammed Europeans in the same conversation and said that they got everything wrong on energy and everything wrong on immigration, adding that if they do not solve these problems, Europe will never be the same. He described immigration and energy as a “disaster." Later, in a Truth Social post, the US president claimed Meloni had asked "over and over" for photographs throughout the summit and suggested she was attempting to improve ties with Washington for domestic political reasons. "Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again to get her 'numbers up.' No thanks!!!" Trump wrote. He suggested that Meloni was doing “poorly in Italy.” Also Read: Meloni signals truce after extraordinary public spat with Trump: 'I don't intend to keep fuelling this dispute' How Meloni reacted? Meloni rejected the claims made by Trump and described it as entirely “made up.” accused the US president of launching "constant, unprovoked... senseless" attacks and insisted that her standing with Italian voters had nothing to do with her relationship with Trump. Meloni also said, "In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours." Later, speaking at an event in Rome, Meloni signalled that she wanted to move beyond the dispute, saying she had no intention of prolonging the row. "I don't intend to keep fuelling this dispute," the Italian leader said.

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni says she is "not anti-American" but also "not kneeling" after Donald Trump's controversial remarks about her sparked a diplomatic row. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani cancelled his US visit, while Trump also criticised Europe over immigration and energy.
