<p>“All the stats coming through was saying, bat first and put runs on the board. But for once, when we got all got asked that question, I think a majority of us said let's just chase.”</p>

<p>“What Marnus did was absolutely perfect. You look at when we played India in the first game. I think they were (2/3) but then Virat did what he does, and KL Rahul did as well. They were nice and calm. When you know what to get, your best batters generally thrive. They will play the tempo of the game,” said Warner.</p>

<p>India were outclassed on all fronts in the final of the ODI World Cup after their impressive batting line-up managed to put on only 240 runs in their 50 overs. KL Rahul was the top scorer for India with 66 runs while Virat Kohli scored his ninth fifty in the ODI World Cup on Sunday. In a fitting reply, the Aussies weathered the early pressure to clinch their sixth ODI World Cup after Travis Head scored a 137-run knock while Marnus Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 58. The pair stitched a partnership of 192 for the fourth wicket that laid the foundation for the win.</p>

<p>The win saw Australia win their sixth World Cup adding to their success stories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. In the last two years they have won the T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship (WTC) and now rounded the success with the ODI World Cup in India.</p>

<p>David Warner has opted out of Australia's T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series versus hosts India, starting on Thursday (Nov 23) in Visakhapatnam. The squad comprises seven players from the Pat Cummins-led Australia's World Cup-winning squad. It is to be noted that Warner has withdrawn from the series after a 'demanding' yet successful WC campaign and he will now prepare for Australia's home Tests series versus Pakistan.</p>

<p>"Selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign," a statement from Cricket Australia read. Warner had another great run in this year's ODI WC, scoring 535 runs in 11 games including two fifties and equal number of hundreds, at an average of&nbsp;48.63. Thus, he silenced his critics in style and now will shift his focus on his farewell Test series, where Australia will host Pakistan starting on Dec 14.</p>

Glenn Maxwell will join the squad only for the series finale, in Bengaluru on Dec 3.</p>

<p>For India, the BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the Australia series with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to remain away from T20Is whereas Hardik Pandya, who has been leading the side since last T20 WC, is injured. Rohit, who tried keeping up with the pace, fell to Glenn Maxwell, while Cummins accounted for Iyer’s wicket, all falling inside the first ten overs.</p>

<p>Though Virat Kohli and KL Rahul completed their respective fifties, some smart captaincy, excellent fielding and even better execution of plans saw Australia restrict India to an under-par total of 240.</p>

<p>Australia lost three wickets inside the first Powerplay. Travis Head kept them in the chase with an incredible hundred, becoming the third Aussie and the seventh batter overall to complete a three-digit score in the summit clash.</p>

<p>Marnus Labuschagne also hit a fifty as Australia beat India by six wickets to put hands on the trophy for the sixth time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Be it the group stage or the World Cup final, Mohammed Shami cannot stop picking wickets in his first over. India’s ace seamer sent a batter packing with a Jaffa for the nth time in this tournament. Bowling to veteran David Warner with the new ball, Shami, coming in from around the wicket, bowled it away from Warner only for him to edge it to the slip cordon.</p>

<p>Shami removing Warner on seven brought more than 100,000 Indian fans present inside the stadium on their feet.</p>

<p>Glenn Maxwell had an unforgettable outing in the ODI World Cup on Wednesday (Oct 25) as he smashed the ball 360 degrees at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Maxwell in scoring 106 runs in the Indian capital smashed the record for fastest hundred in the ODI World Cup, previously held by Aiden Markram of South Africa for a solitary 18 days. However, the record-breaker was not pleased with the organisers despite playing one of the most memorable innings in the history of the tournament.</p>

<h2><strong>Maxwell blasts organisers</strong></h2>

<p>"Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game," Maxwell said during the post-match presentation.</p>

<p>"And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers."</p>

<p>"So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players,” he added.</p>

<p>Maxwell was seen covering his eyes after the light show took center stage during the drinks break in Netherlands’ innings. Though he did not have much time to spend on the field as the Dutch were bowled out for 90 in 21 overs, he did mention the trouble he had readjusting after the light show.&nbsp;This is not the first time he has faced a similar incident with Big Bash cricket also exploring the idea in the past.</p>

<p>Maxwell was on show as he smashed 106 off 44 to put Australia in the ascendency, his knock included 8 sixes and 9 fours and struck at a strike rate of 240. Logan van Beek’s 74/4 would prove to be just a consolation in front of the Aussies bowling attack. This is also the fastest hundred by an Australian in the ODI format while he also ranks fourth in the list for the fastest ODI World Cup hundred, having amassed a 52-ball ton in 2015.</p>

<p>Chasing 400, the Netherlands were bowled out for just 90 after they surrendered against a resolute attack led by Adam Zampa and Co. The spinner maestro scalped four while every other bowler got at least one wicket including Mitchell Starc, skipper Pat Cummins, and others. After Maxwell’s record-breaking 40-ball hundred, Australia bowled out the Netherlands to win by 309 runs. Australia now have three wins from five matches and look solid for a place in the semifinals before taking on arch-rivals New Zealand on Saturday.</p>

<p>Maxwell will next take the field on Saturday against New Zealand in Dharamshala before facing England in Ahmedabad. They will end the league campaign against Afghanistan and Bangladesh with a place in the semifinal up for grabs. Interestingly, the light show was also a feature during India vs New Zealand game in Dharamsala that could once again see Maxwell point out fingers at the organisers. On the flip side, the Netherlands on the other hand will take on Bangladesh on Saturday in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.</p>

And if and when Heady comes back in, I think that's the best position for me to play for this team,” Marsh said while in opening up on the batting shuffle.</p>

<h2><strong>Who will drop out?</strong></h2>

<p>With Head set to return, Australia are likely to drop Marnus Labuschagne and accommodate the left-hand batter. His inclusion will also force Marsh to play at No. 3 but will look at the contest as a blessing in disguise. Marsh has more than impressed in his new role having excelled batting at that spot in the India series in March.</p>

<p>Australia will once again rely on the services of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa in the bowling department. Zampa recently returned to form and has been amongst the wickets to help his side register back-to-back wins in the tournament.</p>

<p>Australia have so far won two matches and lost the same number with them still holding their destiny in their own hands to make the last four. They will have a key run of fixtures to come in the coming days as they take on New Zealand and defending champions England before facing giant killers Afghanistan and Bangladesh.</p>

<p>Australia opener David Warner smashed 163 in record opening stand with Mitchell Marsh (121) in the ODI World Cup as the five-time winners beat Pakistan by 63 runs on October 20 in Bengaluru. Warner was adjudged Player of the Match for his third 150+ score in the ODI World Cups as Australia shot to fourth place on the points table with two wins and two losses in four games.</p>

<p>Speaking on his innings after the game, Warner credited his ability to change gears easily and try to put the foot down after setting a platform.</p>

<p>"Yeah, look, for me, I think what I've established early on in my career is that 50 overs is a long time,” the southpaw said after the match. “And having played Test cricket, you actually can take that out there and change your gears quite easily.”</p>

<p>“So, in the first 10, two new balls, you’ve got to respect that. But then if you get away, you can get on top of it and then you can be 50 off the first 10. And then from there, you set the platform for yourself and that's the energy you feed off. And then you look to try and bat.”</p>

<p>“I look to try and get to 35 overs and then from there, try and put my foot down if I'm still in. So, yeah, it's probably in the back of your mind, you've got a lot more time," he added.</p>

<p>The attacking batter also credited Indian Premier League (IPL) for his success in the ODI cricket. Warner has been a stalwart in the IPL with his most successful stint coming with Sunrises Hyderabad.</p>

<p>“I think that's where in T20 cricket, I've learned a little bit as well to change my gears, especially in IPL. I learned a lot when I was playing for Sunrisers that you're able to have a lot more time than you think. And I think playing on these surfaces specifically, you know, if you give yourself time at the back end, you can actually score big. And that's what I felt today," he said.</p>

<p>The left-hand batter, however, agreed that the Australian team missed out posting in excess 400 after the 259-run opening stand between him and Marsh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We missed a little bit with the bat. We set our platform up very, very well, and we didn't execute as well as we like as a batting unit to post what I thought – 400 was probably on the cards from where we were.”</p>

<p>“I think sometimes you just match up well against certain teams,” he said. “They’re going to bowl you good balls, and sometimes you're going to put away those good balls. But I think you just keep backing yourself," said Warner.</p>

<p>Australia next play Netherlands on October 25 in their fifth game of the tournament.</p>

<p>In match 18 of the CWC 2023 edition on Friday (Oct 20), Australia and Pakistan have locked horns&nbsp;at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Bengaluru. Opting to bowl first, Babar Azam-led Men in Green started off poorly, with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh taking on the bowlers. Shaheen Afridi, however, produced a chance in the fifth over but Usama Mir dropped a sitter to give a reprieve to opener Warner.</p>

<p>It happened on the third ball of the fifth over. It was a well-executed short ball as Warner went for the shot but found a top edge. The ball went up and towards Mir, stationed at mid-on, as he made a mess of the chance. <p>"It’s a great thing for the spectators to see as well. You definitely know which umpires are going to give those 50-50 ones when it hits the pad, and that’s where from my perspective it gets frustrating," he said.&nbsp;</p>

Sachin, on the other hand, has 45 centuries to his name as an opener - all in ODIs, out of his 100 international tons. Warner also has second most ODI hundreds for Australia behind Ricky Ponting who tops the list with 29.</p>

<p>Speaking about his numbers, Warner has played in 144 ODI in his career, scoring 6,136 runs at an average of 45 and with a high score of 179. In Tests, Warner is a force to reckon with, having scored 8,487 runs in 199 innings of 109 matches at an average of 44 and with a highest of 335. The opening batsman has also played 99 T20Is, scoring 2,894 runs at an average of 32.88 with a highest of 100.</p>

In the following match, he again hogged the limelight with his match-winning 79 from just 39 balls, hitting six sixes and eight boundaries.</p>

<p>Alongside Matthew Short, Marsh helped Australia chase 168 inside 15 overs with eight wickets in hand. However, during the final match at the Kingsmead, he got out on 15.&nbsp;<br />
His exploits in the shortest format have given Australia the selection headache as to where to make him play and utilise his form during the marquee event in India, beginning on October 5.</p>

Thus, he has a task to improve his record and help England successfully defend their title.
