<p>"It was the first place I went to; I didn't know what was going on. I literally thought it was a ghost town; I was walking down the street, and I think it was a Saturday, and there was just no one there.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“And we legitimately played on a football field. It was quite crazy; coming from Australia and then, we were playing on a rugby league field, I was like 'What's going on here?'.<br />
"But I really enjoyed it,” Warner added.</p>

<h2>‘I love this game, and I owe this game a lot’</h2>

<p>Having announced his retirement from Tests and ODIs earlier this year, Warner asserted his keenness to continue playing for Australia in T20Is till the World Cup later this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking on his plans once he hangs his boots from international cricket, Warner said he would still play franchise cricket worldwide as he loves this game and owes a lot to it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I will definitely keep playing all the franchise leagues for another couple of years," Warner said, dismissing rumours of him opting to play for Australia beyond the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I still love the game a lot, and I owe the game a lot as well. So, me playing in the other franchise leagues will be great, we haven’t had that opportunity to play a lot and play full seasons."</p>

<p>"I offered my time in ILT20 (UAE last month), the MLC (USA) is there, you've got The Hundred (UK), and I had a taste of the CPL (West Indies) in 2018, which I enjoyed."</p>

<p>"But, I'm glad I'm not a bowler because those boys are strong, and they hit the ball a long way,” Warner concluded.</p>

<p>This New Zealand tour will be Warner’s last bilateral tour in Australian colours, as he will next play in the T20 WC in June.&nbsp;</p>

The resulting hit saw Warner earn a four in the third-man region as the crowd at SCG was thrilled to see him return to the T20 setup of the BBL. The star batter was the top scorer for Sydney Thunders with 37 off 39 and was not up to the pace of the game having scored a strike rate below 100. He and Alex Hales did put in 44 runs for the opening wicket but could not prevent their side from a defeat which sees them languish second from bottom and eliminated from the playoff race.</p>

<p>After he landed, Warner spoke with Channel 7, saying he did his best to reach on time for this game on Friday. The left-handed opener said he would like to contribute with some runs on the board and entertain the fans the way he has done throughout his career.</p>

<p>The lanky seamer added Warner's presence would do a world of good to the team, with him entertaining the crowd also being a big plus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He's going to a lot of effort to come and play for us," Thunder quick Gurinder Sandhu said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We love having him here. Last year, he was awesome for us; maybe didn't score as many runs as he would have liked, but around the group and passing on knowledge was awesome to have him around. He's one of the better teammen. All the fans get to enjoy him playing cricket," the seamer added.</p>

<h2>Warner back in BBL this season for three games</h2>

<p>After stepping aside from Tests, with the Pakistan series being his last, Warner will appear in three matches for Thunders this season before he leaves for the UAE to participate in the ILT20 tournament.</p>

<p>Although Warner planned to skip the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, the selectors named him in the T20I squad, for which he will return from the gulf.</p>

<p>The left-handed opener has also communicated to the selectors that he will be available for the T20 World Cup to be held later this year in June.</p>

<p>Smith has been part of the Australian side for over a decade and has three years of good cricket left in him. Nearing 10,000 Test runs, Smith’s new role could see him benefit from more runs and accolades with the national side. Only Ricky Ponting (41) has more Test hundreds than Smith (32) for Australia while he is also the fourth-highest runs scorer for the Baggy Greens with 9514 in 105 Tests.</p>

<p>Explaining the reasoning behind backing Smith for the opener's slot, Labuschagne said: “It (moving ball on a green pitch) could be one that gets him out and gets his beans going, out (to bat) straightaway, ball swinging around and nipping around, but he’s got a beautiful technique to combat any type of bowling.”</p>

<p>Smith has also expressed his desire to open the batting in Tests to coach Andrew McDonald who also confirmed and said at a post-match conference: "He’s mentioned it throughout the last couple of weeks. He’s put his view forward, and we will consider all options."</p>

<p>McDonald, however, is wary of tinkering the balance of the side, saying: "Steve at [number] three or four is pretty appetising also. You’ve got to make sure you’re not removing the strengths of the team in the search to fill a gap also, so there’s a balance within that."</p>

<p>There are a few other players who are in contention to replace Warner in Tests including Cameron Bancroft, Matt Renshaw, Marcus Harris and Cameron Green.</p>

<p>Australia opener David Warner ended his Test career on Saturday (Jan 6) with a fifty (57) in his last innings, helping Australia win the third and final match in Sydney by eight wickets&nbsp; and culminate&nbsp;yet another clean sweep over Pakistan. Following an emotional send-off from the crowd and even all Pakistan players on field rushing to greet&nbsp;him on&nbsp;the occasion, Warner opened up on how he wants to be remembered as a cricketer.</p>

<p>Much like how he had played and approached his game since emerging onto the international scene as a ‘nobody’, Warner said he wants to be remembered as someone who was exciting, entertaining and had put a smile on everyone’s face (with his exploits with the bat (mostly) and some time with his TikTok videos too).&nbsp;</p>

<p>A successful batter across formats at a position he batted regularly, Warner has the most centuries for an opener in international cricket, even ahead of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. <p>"[Would like to be remembered as] exciting, entertaining, and I hope I put a smile on everyone's face with the way that I played, and hopefully, the young kids out there can follow in my footsteps.
