For the unversed, Gayle is an IPL legend. He&nbsp;has represented the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in his glittering&nbsp;IPL career, amassing 4,965 runs at 39.72 and a strike rate of&nbsp;148.96. Gayle is the seventh-highest run-getter overall; third-most runs among foreign players in the IPL. In addition, he has as many as six IPL tons (most by any batter).

Gayle was part of the PBKS squad since 2018, however, he wasn't a regular in the playing XI in the last two seasons before he withdrew from the second and final leg of IPL 2021, citing bio-bubble fatigue. It will be interesting to see which team acquires his services if he returns for IPL 2023.

Indian cricket team to play two T20Is against West Indies in USA during the Caribbean tour: Report

It was a tough outing for Kolkata Knight Riders as they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 encounter in Mumbai on Wednesday.<o:p></o:p>

KKR suffered a mini batting collapse as they were bowled out for 128 thanks to brilliant bowling performances from Mohammad Siraj, Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga. In response, RCB found the going difficult but were able to reach the target with just four balls to spare.

Sandeep Sharma is no stranger to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The medium pacer from Punjab made his debut in 2013 and during his stints with Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, he picked up 112 wickets in the competition. It was sort of a homecoming for Sandeep as he was picked by Punjab Kings ahead of 2022 season and currently, he is one of the senior campaigners in the side.<o:p></o:p>

The Mayank Agarwal-led side started the tournament on a positive note as they chased down a target of 206 runs to clinch the win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Speaking exclusively to WION, Sandeep opened up about the game and the feeling in the dressing room after the win.

&nbsp;“It is always a good feeling to win the first game of the tournament and we want to carry forward that momentum. Chasing 200 runs is very difficult but our batting was able to pull it off. It was a very positive result and the entire dressing room is extremely happy with what we were able to achieve.”<o:p></o:p>

The one thing that caught the attention of most experts during the match was the number of extras conceded by both sides. A total of 45 extras was conceded during the face-off – an IPL record – including 33 wides (12 from Punjab bowlers).&nbsp; <o:p></o:p>

In this regard, Sandeep explained dew as a factor but believes that wides were mainly conceded due to the bowlers’ reluctance to bowl in the batter's hitting arc.

“The conditions were okay and it was mainly a batting wicket. I feel the bowlers did not want to come into the batsman’s arc and as they wanted to stay away from that line, they ended up bowling wide. Dew was also there and in coming games, it will become a factor,” the 28-year-old said.<o:p></o:p>

This year’s IPL will be played in just four venues around Maharashtra and the constant fixtures can result in pitches slowing down gradually towards the end of the tournament. However, Sandeep said that he is hoping for that to happen and only the Pune pitch can see big changes in the future.<o:p></o:p>

“I am not hoping for that as all the venues have 4-5 pitches and they will have 3-4 games each. Pitches in Maharashtra are very good and I think they will be able to sustain 4 games. As I said, dew will also play a part and once dew sets in, the ball will not move even if the wicket is slow. Maybe the pitches will slow down a little but the impact will not be that much.”

The first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains the only season where Pakistani players took part in the cash-rich league. Since then, their participation has remained a distant dream due to the political tension between India and Pakistan since 2008.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, it doesn't stop the experts and former cricketers from making predictions about the price tag of the current lot of Pakistan players had they been a part of the IPL in present times. In this regard, the Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar made a bold claim by predicting Pakistan captain Babar Azam's price tag in the IPL.

In a chat with Sportskeeda, Akhtar said, "It would be great to see Babar Azam and Virat Kohli opening the innings together in the IPL one day. What an exciting moment that would be. In the auction, Babar would go for 15-20 crore INR and could be the most expensive Pakistan player."

Along with Babar, Pakistan have quite a few talented cricketers such as Shaheen Afridi, Md Rizwan, Shadab Khan, etc. who can gain big-fat cheques in the IPL. However, this remains a distant dream at present seeing the political relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

At present, the IPL 2022 edition has started on an emphatic note and has given fans plenty to cheer for after the five completed&nbsp;games so far. The first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains the only season where Pakistani players took part in the cash-rich league. Since then, their participation has remained a distant dream due to the political tension between India and Pakistan since 2008. In the auction, Babar would go for 15-20 crore INR and could be the most expensive Pakistan player." However, this remains a distant dream at present seeing the political relationship between the two neighbouring countries. At present, the IPL 2022 edition has started on an emphatic note and has given fans plenty to cheer for after the five completed games so far. Lucknow Super Giants were already rocked by the dismissal of their two openers – KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock – after a brilliant spell of bowling by Mohammed Shami and the catch turned the game even more in Gujarat Titans’ favour as they dominated proceedings from the beginning.

IPL 2022: Catch of the tournament? Shubman Gill plucks a stunner for Gujarat Titans - WATCH

It was a brilliant start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season for India pacer Mohammed Shami as he was the pick for the bowlers for Gujarat Titans during their encounter against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.

The fast bowler finished with impressive figures of 3/25 in 4 overs and claimed the wickets of Manish Pandey, Quinton de Kock and the skipper KL Rahul.

It was a perfect start for Shami as he was able to induce a nick off KL Rahul in the very first ball of the match and Matthew Wade easily completed the catch behind the stumps. There was some doubt in the umpire’s mind but the replays made it clear that the ball made contact with the inside edge.

<o:p></o:p>

Shami followed it up with a vicious in-swinger in his second over as Quinton de Kock was completely outdone by the movement and the ball crashed in to his leg stump. The fast bowler continued to get a lot of assistance from the pitch and his final victim was Pandey who was beaten by his pace.<o:p></o:p>

The impressive show from Shami earned him a lot of praise on Twitter and former India cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Wasim Jaffer also joined the public in lauding him for his performance.

The third and final Test between Pakistan and Australia is going down the wire. Plenty of action, drama and entertainment has been witnessed during the course of the final Test, in Lahore, and the fourth and penultimate day wasn't any different.

After Aussie openers, David Warner and Usman Khawaja, resumed the day's play at 11/0 for Pat Cummins &amp; Co. in the third innings, with an overall lead of 134 runs. Soon, Warner was involved in a heated exchange with umpire&nbsp;Ahsan Raza.&nbsp;

How it all panned out

The incident took place in the 21st over of Australia's&nbsp;second innings on Thursday (March 24). Warner&nbsp;was batting slightly out of his crease when both the on-field umpires Aleem Dar and&nbsp;Raza walked up to him and requested&nbsp;him not to run on the centre of the 22-yard cricket strip.

The 35-year-old swashbuckling opener&nbsp;was taken aback. He wasn't&nbsp;happy with the umpires' interruption and claimed that he wasn't doing anything wrong. Soon,&nbsp;the discussion turned into a heated exchange and the clip of the same went viral in no time.

Warner was caught saying on the camera, "You want me to play my shot like this...” on the stump mic while signalling towards the side of the crease. To this, the umpire Raza replied, "Yes, you have to move.”

“Show me in the rule book where that’s what I’ve got to do. I won’t start until you show me,” Warner was quick to respond. Here's the clip:

Skipper Meg Lanning produced another masterclass, smashing an unbeaten 135 as six-time champions Australia continued their invincible run with a five-wicket thrashing of South Africa in the ICC Women's World Cup here on Tuesday.

Lanning scored her 15th ODI century with 15 hits to the fence and one maximum during her 130-ball unconquered innings to help Australia successfully chase down South Africa's total of 271 for 5 with 28 balls to spare at Basin Reserve.

Invited to bat, opener Laura Wolvaardt cracked a 134-ball 90, while skipper Sune Luus (52) notched another half-century as South Africa posted a decent total from their 50 overs.

However, it proved inadequate in the end as Lanning took control of Australia's chase and recorded her third World Cup century to lead her team to a comfortable victory.

The win further consolidated Australia's position at the top of the table with 12 points from six matches and they are likely to end at the top with just one match to go against Bangladesh in the league stage.

It was South Africa's first loss of the tournament. They remain second in the standings with 8 points from five games but are still in danger of missing out on the semifinals should they fail to win any of their final two matches against West Indies and India.

The Australian innings was all about Lanning as the skipper showed her class with a true captain's knock that was one of her best innings of all time.

Opener Alyssa Healy (1) was out in the third over and Rachael Haynes (17) followed her back to the pavilion in the 11th when Mignon du Preez held on to a screamer in the outfield to leave Australia in a spot of bother at 45 for 2. However, Lanning showed little respect to the South Africa bowlers as she found the gaps with ease.

The Australia captain enjoyed a 60-run partnership with the reliable Beth Mooney (21) and then an even better one of 93 with all-rounder Tahlia McGrath (32) that put Australia in a dominant position to cruise home.

A back injury to Ellyse Perry was the only negative to come out of the win for Australia, with the veteran all-rounder bowling just three overs. She did not bat.

Earlier, opener Wolvaardt continued her rich run of form, sharing 88 runs with Lizelle Lee (36) for the opening wicket, before forging a 91-run stand with skipper Luus (52).

Ash Gardner pulled off the catch of the tournament when she held on to a beauty in the outfield to dismiss du Preez (14), while Marizanne Kapp (30 not out off 21 balls) hit four boundaries to help boost South Africa's total. For the Proteas, seamer Shabnim Ismail (2/33) and spinner Chloe Tryon (2/44) snapped two wickets apiece.&nbsp;

Skipper Meg Lanning's 135 powers Australia to five-wicket win over South Africa in Women's World Cup 2022

Mithali Raj-led India women's team has struggled for consistency in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022 so far as they find themselves on the fourth spot on the points table after two wins and three losses from their first five games in the tournament. India got off to a winning start in the tournament with an emphatic victory against Pakistan in the opener before slipping to a defeat against New Zealand in their next game.

India bounced back to winning ways in their third game against West Indies riding on impressive centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur before facing back-to-back defeats against England and Australia. India failed to defend a total of 277 runs to lose the game by six wickets in their last outing against the Aussies.

After a disappointing show against England, it was a great batting effort by the Women in Blue as the likes of skipper Mithali Raj, Yastia Bhatia and Harmanpreet slammed half-centuries apiece to help India post a strong total of 277 runs on the board. However, Aussie skipper&nbsp;Meg Lanning (97) and Alyssa Healy (77) ensured the defending champions remained unbeaten in the tournament.

Bangladesh Women have so far managed only one win in the tournament against Pakistan and have lost three of their remaining four matches. India, who need to win by a big margin to keep their semi-final hopes alive, will fancy their chances against the&nbsp;Nigar Sultana-led side.

However, Aussie skipper Meg Lanning (97) and Alyssa Healy (77) ensured the defending champions remained unbeaten in the tournament. Mithali Raj equals world record with brilliant fifty in Women's World Cup 2022 clash against Australia

Mithali Raj-led India suffered a narrow six-wicket defeat at the hands of table-toppers Australia in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022 at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday (March 19). India's chances of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the semi-finals were dealt with a huge blow after their loss on Saturday.

India produced an improved batting show after a terrible collapse in their last game against England as they rode on half-centuries from skipper Mithali, Yatika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur to post a strong total of 277 runs on the board. However, Australia recorded the highest successful chase in the history of the Women's World Cup to bag a six-wicket win and maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.

After a brilliant start from openers Rachael Haynes (43) and Alyssa Healy (72), who added 121 runs for the first wicket, Aussie skipper Meg Lanning slammed a brilliant knock of 97 runs to help her side chase down the target with three balls to spare. India did get into the game towards the end with quick wickets but a 20-ball 30 cameo from Beth Mooney took Australia over the line comfortably.

The loss has further dented India's chances of finishing in the top four as they sit on the fourth spot on the points table currently with four points from five matches. India have lost three and won just two games in the tournament so far. Mithali Raj &amp; Co. have now been pushed into a must-win situation in the Women's World Cup 2022.

India now have just two games in hands and will have to win both the matches to remain alive in the competition. India can still qualify for the semi-finals but are in a must-win situation and a loss in any of their next two matches will all but confirm their exit from the tournament.&nbsp;

Apart from India, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh can also finish in top four as they can earn a maximum of eight points from their remaining matches. England and Bangladesh both have only two points from four matches so far and a defeat in their next game will confirm their exit from the tournament.

New Zealand are currently placed fifth on the points table as their net run rate is lower than India despite the two teams having the same number of points after five matches each. India will have to win their next two matches by big margins to ensure they are ahead if net run rate comes into play for qualification into semis.

Women's World Cup 2022: Can India still qualify for semi-finals after six-wicket defeat against Australia?

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir hs rubbished the rumours that he doesn't like former India captain MS Dhoni and that all is not well between the two former India teammates. Gambhir and Dhoni shared the Indian dressing room for nearly a decade and were part of some of the most memorable victories for Team India including the ICC T20 World Cup triumph in 2007 and the ICC ODI World Cup win in 2011.

Gambhir made his debut for the Indian team much before Dhoni in 2003 itself but he went on to play for a number of years under the latter's captaincy. Gambhir played an instrumental role in India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup wins under Dhoni's captaincy and was Man of the Match in the finals of both the tournaments.

Gambhir was also Dhoni's deputy across formats for a number of years for the Indian team and led the side in the former captain's absence in six matches. When asked why some people think he doesn't like Dhoni, Gambhir called the rumours 'crap' and said he has a lot of mutual respect for the former India captain.

Gambhir also heaped praise on Dhoni for his contributions towards Indian cricket and said he will be the first person to stand next to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain if he is ever in need in life. Gambhir also explained that he and Dhoni might have had their own ways of looking at the game but it was never the case that they didn't like each other or didn't get along well.

I have been the vice-captain (Of the Indian team) for the longest time when he was the captain and never has it been the case. One of the quickest bowlers in the history of cricket, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar used to terrorise the best of batters with sheer pace during his playing days. Akhtar holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery ever bowled in international cricket and was famously called the Rawalpindi Express by the fans and followers of the game.

Akhtar enjoyed some great on-field duels with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting among others during his playing days. Akhtar bowled one of his most fearsome spells against Ponting during the Perth Test between Australia and Pakistan in 1999. He later terrorised Ponting once again in the 2004-2005 Test series between the two sides.

After Pakistan lost two matches in the series, Akhtar wanted to go after the Aussie batters on the bouncy track in Perth and breathed fire with the ball against Ponting. Recalling his fiery spell to the former Australia captain, Akhtar recently said he wanted to test Ponting against his pace.

The former fast bowler also admitted he was furiously fast on the day and would have gone for the batter's head had it been someone else and not Ponting facing him. Akhtar had tried to unsettle the likes of Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer as well in the series and enjoyed verbal duels with them.

"I gave it to them. In the 2005 series, me and [Justin] Langer got into a fight. Me and [Matt] Hayden got into a fight. It's verbal, not physical. I wanted to display my talent [and show] that I am better than you," Akhtar told the&nbsp;Sydney Morning Herald.

Jharkhand sealed their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal berth here on Wednesday but not before making a mockery of their knock-out fixture against minnows Nagaland.

In pursuit of giving their young batters some "practice" for the quarterfinal which is slated about three months from now, the Saurabh Tiwary-led side ended up scoring a match aggregate of 1297 runs.

Jharkhand, who had batted first in the match, had already sealed their last-eight berth after taking a massive 591-run first-innings lead but did not enforce a follow-on against the northeastern side, who were all out for 289 in their first innings.

Resuming the fifth and final day on 132/2 in their second innings, with an overall lead of 723 runs, Jharkhand called off the proceedings much to the delight of Nagaland bowlers midway into the second session.

Just when their first innings double-centurion Kumar Kushagra got out for 89 (104 balls; 9x4, 3x6) in the third ball of the 91st over, both the teams shook hands.

Jharkhand made 417/6 in their second essay, an overall lead of 1008 -- the highest in the history of first-class cricket.

The match witnessed three centuries and one double ton from Jharkhand batters and on the final day, overnight batter Anukul Roy followed up his first-innings 59 with a brisk 159 (164b; 14x4, 7x6). This was his second first-class hundred.

The Plate group toppers Nagaland had to toil hard, remaining on the field for most part of the five-day game and ended up bowling more than 294 overs.

Justifying his side's decision, skipper Tiwary had said on Tuesday that they wanted to give their young batters some practice as first-innings lead was enough to book a quarterfinal berth for them.

Jharkhand thus joined the seven Elite group toppers -- Bengal, Mumbai, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand -- who have already qualified for the quarterfinals.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has lavished praise on wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant after his heroics in the recently-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka at home. India thrashed Sri Lanka 2-0 in the two-match series to register their 15th straight Test series win at home. While Pant produced a brilliant show with the bat, he was also exceptional behind the stumps.

Pant had faced intense criticism from all corners after his cheap dismissal against South Africa in the Johannesburg Test earlier this year. Pant had stepped out and played an unwanted shot against pacer Kagiso Rabada at the start of his innings to get caught.&nbsp;

However, the left-hander made a strong comeback&nbsp;with a century in the Cape Town Test and continued his purple patch in the two-match series against Sri Lanka. Pant slammed a brilliant 96-run-knock in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali and followed it up with scores of 39 and 50 runs in the second Test in Bengaluru.

Pant also smashed the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in Tests as he notched up his half-century off just 28 balls in the second Test. He broke the legendary Kapil Dev's 40-year-od record with his dashing knock and also earned praise from many, including Indian skipper Rohit.

While Rohit insisted that he wants Pant to continue playing his natural attacking game, the Indian skipper said Pant has been told that he would have to curtail his natural instincts and play as per the situation whenever the team requires.

"His batting is his batting. We know how he bats and as a team we just want to give him that freedom to bat in the way that he wants to bat. But also keeping in mind certain situations of the game, where the game is going, we have also conveyed that to him, but we want to stick with his game plan as a team. It just seems to get better and get better - his game plans," said Rohit in the press conference post the conclusion of the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka.

"There will be times when you will smash your head and say 'why did he play that shot' but again we need to be ready to accept that with him when he bats. And he is somebody who can change the game in 40 minutes," he added.

While highlighting his batting heroics, Rohit also heaped praise on Pant's wicket-keeping and said his keeping in the Sri Lanka series was the best he has seen from the left-hander.

"And the most significant factor of his in this series was his keeping. His keeping was best that I have seen. He kept well when England came last year and he seems to get better every time he keeps wickets for India, so that is something that I have been very impressed with," Rohit said.
