<p>Stokes is likely to play as a specialist batter at the start of the 2023 IPL and has had a cortisone injection in order to manage an injury to his left knee, according to a report published on Tuesday.</p>

<p>"My understanding is he's ready to go as a batsman from the start," Mike Hussey, Super Kings' batting coach, told ESPNcricinfo and PA news.</p>

<p>"The bowling might be wait and see. I know he had his first very light bowl yesterday [Sunday] since he had his injections in his knee.</p>

<p>"The physios from Chennai and the ECB are working pretty closely together. My understanding is he won't be bowling much at all in the first few games of the tournament… it might be a few weeks. I'm not 100% sure, [but we will] hopefully get him bowling at some stage in the tournament."</p>

<p>While limited-overs cricket has already seen the best out of the former Rajasthan Royals man, he has excelled in the red-ball format for England. Stokes is yet to lose a Test series as England skipper and has led them to series wins against New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan.</p>

<p>Stokes also guided England in the Birmingham Test, where his side beat India in July 2022. Most recently he was seen in action in the Test series against New Zealand, where his side was on the receiving end. New Zealand's win against England saw them become just the third nation to have won a Test match despite following-on.</p>

<p>Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has backed the Chennai Super Kings to reach the playoffs in IPL 2023. The former four-time IPL champions stood second-last on the points table in 2022, and now, with the inclusion of World Cup winner in Ben Stokes, Chopra believes CSK will better their previous result.</p>

<p>Speaking on AakashVani on Jio Cinema, Chopra said the Chennai team revolves around MS Dhoni and a plethora of all-rounders they have at their disposal, and that, their success will be defined by these two only.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts on Chennai’s chances this season, Chopra opines they look strong on paper, and with matches scheduled to take place at Chepauk, the team can prosper. The former Kolkata Knight Riders opener added that knowing MS Dhoni is back leading the team and that this could potentially be his last season in IPL, wonders are expected to happen.</p>

<p>"They are looking like a very decent team on paper. Where can this team reach? They should reach the playoffs if they play to their potential. Dhoni is the captain, there is an emotional connect, it is the last season, and the matches are going to be played in Chennai, which is their fortress," Chopra said.</p>

<p>Elaborating on whom he thinks would top the charts in both departments – batting and bowling, given the firepower CSK have, Chopra said the returning Deepak Chahar could be Chennai’s stand-out bowler while New Zealand’s Devon Conway is sure to make headlines with heaps of runs throughout the tournament. While Chahar missed out on playing last year’s IPL due to an injury, he is likely to remain fit and available for this season. Conway, on the other hand, was among the runs for CSK in 2022, hitting 252 runs at an impressive strike rate of 145.67.</p>

<p>Although the conversations were never made public, Jadeja was unhappy and was on the verge of getting traded from the team. There were reports that he could be released from the franchise in November’s trading window, however, the timely intervention of Dhoni and CEO Viswanathan saw Jadeja remain in CSK colours.</p>

<p>The new rule change is supposed to reduce the impact of toss with teams now having the luxury to name a Playing XI more adaptable to the role. If a certain team is tasked to bowl second, that is later in the day in dew conditions, and then the team line-up could be tweaked accordingly. While the toss will still play an important role in the overall outcome of the match, the new rule could deliver the flexibility needed for the teams after taking the playing conditions into context.</p>

Dhoni-CSK's story is one-for-the-ages as the former is from Jharkhand but got accepted in a jiffy from the Chennai crowd ever since he got roped in by the team owners in inaugural IPL auction.</p>
