The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that the teams are obligated to put the host logo on the jersey. The statement comes amid the reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (<a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/bcci">BCCI</a>) is not to keen to put host Pakistan's name on their ICC <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/champions-trophy">Champions Trophy 2025</a> jersey.
<h2>ICC says it is obligation</h2>
&ldquo; It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,&rdquo; an ICC source stated as reported by media outlet A-sport.

<h2>BCCI Secretary says board will follow rules</h2>
Newly-appointed BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, meanwhile, has made it clear that the Indian board intends to follow all the rules of the tournament, which is set to be played from February 19.
"During the Champions Trophy, BCCI will follow all the dress-code rules by ICC," said Saikia as per PTI. "Whatever the other teams do in terms of dress codes, we'll follow that completely," he added.
The Champions Trophy 2025 has been mired in controversy ever since the venue renovation was announced and the budget was passed by the ICC.
"BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don't want to send their captain (to Pakistan) for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they don't want the host nation's (Pakistan) name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and support Pakistan," a PCB official told the news agency IANS on condition of anonymity.

2025 Champions Trophy: 'Teams are obligated...,' says ICC amid India vs Pakistan jersey logo row

Captain Jos Buttler says England's match against Afghanistan at the Champions Trophy should go ahead after calls for a boycott over the Taliban regime's assault on women's rights.
A group of more than 160 British politicians have written to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) calling for England not to play the match in Lahore on February 26.
Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have effectively banned the participation of women in both sport and broader public life.
That puts the Afghanistan Cricket Board at odds with the rules of governing body the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Buttler said sports and politics should be kept separate.
"Political situations like this, as a player you're trying to be as informed as you can be," he told reporters ahead of the first T20 against India in Kolkata on Wednesday.
"The experts know a lot more about it, so I've been trying to stay in dialogue with Rob Key (managing director of ECB) and the guys above to see how they see it."

"I don't think a boycott is the way to go about it," he added.
"Certainly as a player, you don't want political situations to affect sport. We hope to go to the Champions Trophy and play that game and have a really good tournament."
The ECB has resisted calls for a boycott, with chief executive Richard Gould saying instead he would "actively advocate" for collective action by the ICC instead.
The ICC have allowed the Afghanistan men's team to keep competing in global competitions.

Champions Trophy 2025: Ex-Pakistan batter says India's playing XI is incomplete without THIS player

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed Mohammed Shami to come good in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking on Monday (Jan 20), Ganguly compared Shami to star bowler Jasprit Bumrah as team India bids for its third Champions Trophy title. According to the former captain, his fellow Bengal player is the second-best bowler after Bumrah and could prove vital if India are to lift the trophy for the third time.
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Ganguly in awe of Shami</h2>
"I'm happy to see Shami fit because I think he's probably the best bowler after (Jasprit) Bumrah in the country...I know he'll be a bit nervous because he's playing cricket after a long time, especially with a knee injury, but the good thing is that he bowled a lot for Bengal in domestic cricket, which is going to help him in the games to come," Ganguly said while speaking to PTI news agency.
Veteran Shami will return to the Indian team for the first time since the 2023 ODI World Cup final where the hosts finished runners-up. Shami&rsquo;s performance was the highlight for India as he scalped 24 wickets in seven matches, with a best of 57/7 against New Zealand in the semis. He was the standout performer for India in the tournament before injury spoiled his entire 2024.

The 34-year-old has since missed domestic and international cricket due to a serious knee inury that kept him away from action.
Shami did not play in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) for Gujarat Titans as they missed out on playoffs.
However, his return to the Indian team will be a boost, considering Bumrah is facing a race against time to be fit for the Champions Trophy.
Interestingly, India have opted against using Mohammed Siraj for the Champions Trophy as he was dropped in favour of Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer will be part of the ODI set having been part of the Indian team during the T20 World Cup winning triumph.

Champions Trophy 2025: Sourav Ganguly in awe of Mohammed Shami - 'best bowler after...'

Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina says that India's T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be missed in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Board on Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn't name Surya in the 15-man India squad for <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/2025-champions-trophy">2025 Champions Trophy</a> squad.
"Surya was an integral part of the World Cup squad, he is a 360 player who can score at 9 runs per over at any stage of the game. He can dominate the opposition and bats in a different way," Raina said on Star Sports Press Room on India's squad.

"If Surya was there there would have been an X-factor, he will be missed. The responsibility will be now on top 3 who are not in form. Surya is someone who can bat in any position." Raina added.&nbsp;
<h2>Sanju Samson, Karun Nair snub causes furor</h2>
The BCCI didn't name Sanju Samson or Karun Nair in the squad which has led to criticism of the board and its policies. Samson, who is now a regular fixture in India's T20I squad, last played an ODI for India in December 2023 against South Africa and had scored a hundred.
His absence, however, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/india-champions-trophy-2025-team-news-vijay-hajare-trophy-absence-reason-behind-samson-non-selection-kca-president-responsd-8635125">could be attributed to skipping</a> the recently-concluded 50-over domestic tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT).
Nair, on the other hand, did play in the VHT and had a dream run with the bat. The Vidarbha skipper went on to score 779 runs in the tournament at an astonishing average of 389.50. Nair scored five hundreds and a fifty in eight innings but failed to take his team to the trophy as Karnataka beat them in the final.

Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina says that India's T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be missed in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Board on Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn't name Surya in the 15-man India squad for 2025 Champions Trophy squad. "Surya was an integral part of the World Cup squad, he is a 360 player who can score at 9 runs per over at any stage of the game. <h2>Kohli-Rohit Retirement Talks</h2>
Senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are facing heat after a poor show in the recently-concluded tour of Australia where India lost the five-Test series 1-3. Kohli managed just 190 odd runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) with most of his runs coming during the 100 not out he scored in the second innings of the first Test in Perth.
Rohit, on the other hand, was even bigger failure with the bat and eventually decided to sit out the fifth Test in Sydney. India skipper played only three Tests on the tour after missing the first one due to the birth of his second child.
Sharma managed just 31 runs across five innings of three Tests with a highest of 10. Such was the magnitude of Rohit's failure that pacer Jasprit Bumrah's wickets&mdash;32&mdash;were more than the skipper's runs in the series.
Both the senior players have been facing criticism from all quarters, but the board has continued to show faith in them. The BCCI, however, seems to have made up its mind on the new India skipper, especially in ODIs, after naming Shubman Gill the vice-captain for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The board has also restricted the players from taking their personal staff- chefs, managers, assistants and security to minimise logistical challenges.
Additionally, the players have to take part in domestic tournaments or risk getting banned from playing in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sunil Gavaskar predicts THIS team to win Champions Trophy 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is bringing changes in the way the Indian team operates on the tours after a review meeting following a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. The changes, including less time for families on the tour, are being placed after coach <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/gautam-gambhir">Gautam Gambhir</a> called out 'indiscipline' in the squad.

In Shami's absence only Jasprit Bumrah had an impact as a bowler for India in the BGT. After Bumrah, who was named Player of the Series with 32 wickets, Mohammed Siraj with 20 wickets was the next best and Prasidh Krishna, who played only one Test out of five, was third best with six wickets.
As for Shami, there were talks that he will join the squad ahead of the fourth Test on the Boxing Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) but wasn't cleared by the Indian cricket board.
Most recently, Shami played two matches in the domestic 50-over cup Vijay Hazare Trophy for his state Bengal and took one wicket in each of the matches.
Before that, Shami had played nine games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) T20 cup - taking 11 wickets in total with a best of 3/21.
Shami's comeback, whenever happens, will be a boost for India as he was the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023. He had come in place of Hardik Pandya after the all-rounder got injured and played pivotal role in India reaching the final with 24 wickets in seven games.

New Delhi, India
A final decision on the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy was made on Monday after weeks of deliberation. Pakistan will host the tournament in February and March next year, but India's matches will be played at a neutral venue. An agreement has been made not just for the 2025 Champions Trophy, but for the entire 2024-27 ICC cycle. India-Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the period will be played at a neutral venue. The decision marks a major development in cricketing ties between both countries, which have been affected due to the strained political relations over the last two decades.
<h2>What led to the breakdown?</h2>
India and Pakistan's cricketing ties have always been complex. There was no cricket played between the two countries between 1962 and 1977 due to two major wars in 1965 and 1971. Subsequently, there was regular cricket between the two nations till 1999, when there was another suspension due to the Kargil war.
However, a peace process was initiated by Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in 2004 which led to India touring Pakistan for the first time in 14 years. That launched arguably the most successful period of cricket diplomacy between India and Pakistan. Pakistan also toured India in 2007, but things took a turn for the worse the very next year.
The Indian cricket team has not travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup, which took place a few months before the 26/11 Mumbai attack. Pakistani terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba killed at least 166 people after which both cricketing and political ties have been tense.
The 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore further put a question mark on Pakistan's ability to provide security to traveling teams. The incident led to a decade-long suspension of Test matches in the country and cost Pakistan its co-hosting rights for the 2011 Cricket World Cup- which was hosted and won by India.
There was a brief attempt at revival with a bilateral series held in India in 2012/13, but subsequent attempts have been blocked. For any series to take place between India and Pakistan, the BCCI now requires clearance from the Indian Government. Test cricket has returned to Pakistan in 2019 with the series against Sri Lanka. Heavyweights Australia, England and New Zealand have all toured Pakistan since, but a bilateral series with India remains off the table.
<h2>Which cricket board has been more affected by the hiatus?</h2>
The fortunes of the two cricket boards over the last 15 years have been contrasting, to say the least. The BCCI has grown from strength to strength and established itself as undoubtedly the most powerful and richest cricket board in the world.
The BCCI has not been hurt by the absence of regular matches against their old rivals. The biggest success story for the Indian cricket board in the last decade has been the inception of the IPL, which is the second most valuable franchise league in the world. The IPL is the biggest money-spinner for the BCCI and it has exponentially grown the financial might of Indian cricket.
A recent ICC report revealed that India’s economy got a massive boost of $1.39 billion for organising last year’s ODI World Cup. India received a lion’s share from the ICC income to the tune of 38.5 percent, in contrast, Pakistan’s share is just 5.75 per cent. According to a BCCI document, the board's cash and bank balance for FY2024 is ₹20,686 crore (approx. $2.4 billion). Cricket Australia is next on the list with a revenue of ₹658 crore. The Pakistan Cricket Board's net worth as of September 2024 is ₹458 crore (approx. $55 million), which is approximately 1/50th of the revenue of the BCCI.
<h2>How much money do Ind-Pak Matches generate?</h2>
The fact that India &amp; Pakistan only meet each other in ICC &amp; multi-team events, it makes the clashes all the more special. It remains the most-awaited match of any ICC tournament. Demographically, 1.639 billion probable viewership comes from only India &amp; Pakistan which is almost 40 per cent of the world’s total cricket viewers. India-Pakistan match is of significant importance for the broadcasters &amp; the sponsors.
According to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the estimated revenue generated by India-Pakistan matches in the past 20 years is approximately ₹10,000 crore or $1.3 billion. Here are some staggering stats from some notable recent India-Pak matches:
<h3>2023 ODI World Cup</h3>
Venue: Ahmedabad
Viewership: 398 Million (digital + broadcast)
<h3>2022 T20 World Cup</h3>
Venue: Melbourne
Viewership: 256 million viewing hours in India
<h3>2019 ODI World Cup</h3>
Venue: Manchester
Viewership: 321 million (digital + broadcast)

<h2>What does the future hold?</h2>
The adoption of the hybrid model for the 2024-27 cycle will come as a major relief for all cricket fans. However, the fact that all India-Pakistan matches in the next few years will take place on neutral ground will take away some of the energy from the high-octane clashes. Some reports have suggested a triangular series could be possible involving India and Pakistan.
Such an arrangement would have to be approved by the ICC. However, the BCCI's reluctance, a packed cricket calendar and logistical challenges make it unlikely in the 2024-27 cycle. Purist cricket fans will be disappointed as the decision doesn't raise hope of a test match happening between the two nations. The last red ball India-Pakistan match was held in Bengaluru in 2007.
While India has not crossed the border in 16 years, Pakistan did so twice- for the 2016 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. The latest decision marks a significant shift in the PCB's earlier stance and the board claims the move is an 'equitable arrangement' for the future. The decision certainly gives clarity for the next few years, but it won't put an end to the politicisation of cricket between the two countries.

How much money do Ind-Pak Matches generate? The fact that India & Pakistan only meet each other in ICC & multi-team events, it makes the clashes all the more special. It remains the most-awaited match of any ICC tournament. Demographically, 1.639 billion probable viewership comes from only India & Pakistan which is almost 40 per cent of the world’s total cricket viewers. India-Pakistan match is of significant importance for the broadcasters & the sponsors. According to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the estimated revenue generated by India-Pakistan matches in the past 20 years is approximately ₹10,000 crore or $1.3 billion. Here are some staggering stats from some notable recent India-Pak matches: 2023 ODI World Cup Venue: Ahmedabad Viewership: 398 Million (digital + broadcast) 2022 T20 World Cup Venue: Melbourne Viewership: 256 million viewing hours in India 2019 ODI World Cup Venue: Manchester Viewership: 321 million (digital + broadcast) ALSO READ | 'Not like anyone is irreplaceable,' Ravindra Jadeja terms Ravi Ashwin's retirement as 'golden opportunity' What does the future hold?
