Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that Indian cricket team should not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan are scheduled to host the ICC tournament from February 19 to March 9 next year - their first ICC tournament since jointly hosting ICC World Cup 1996 with India and Sri Lanka.

"What they say is what they think is right while what we say is our point of view. I feel the security concerns are always there and if the security of the players is not ensured there then I don't think that the team should go there," said Singh in a interview to Sports Tak.

"If they say that the teams will get full security and there is no hassle then it's on the government to think and make decisions because in the end, it's not just about cricketing matters and the issue goes beyond. As a cricketer, I can say if you wish to play cricket, play cricket but the security concern is always there and players should not go there until the security is guaranteed," he added.

Recently, former Pak spinner Danish Kaneria also expressed concern on security of Indian team if they travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

"Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai," Kaneria had said.

India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. The two countries have been at loggerheads since then due to politically charged environment.

India had also refused to travel to Pakistan last year for Asia Cup and the tournament was played in a hybrid model with India's matches scheduled in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, however, travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 right after the continental tournament.

Champions Trophy 2025: 'Security is guaranteed...,' Harbhajan Singh on India travelling to Pakistan

Uncertainty remains around the 2025 Champions Trophy's venue. Pakistan, the defending champions, are scheduled to host the mega event early next year. However, the bigger question is whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will send Team India to Pakistan. Given the prevailing political tensions and security considerations, BCCI remains reluctant. India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2008 and the two teams have not met each other in any bilateral series since early 2013, due to the political tension between the Asian nations. While a final call is yet to be taken, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria admitted that India should not go to Pakistan and advised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to go for a hybrid model, with India to play their games in Dubai.

Kaneria urged PCB to consider the broader implications and consult with the ICC before going ahead with any decision.

"The safety of the players is the first priority. Respect is the second priority. There are many things. I think BCCI is doing a great job. I think all the countries will accept the final decision. I think it will be a hybrid model," Kaneria further added.

Meanwhile, PCB's preparations are in full swing with them confident of India coming to Pakistan. Last year, Babar Azam-led Men in Green travelled to India for the ODI World Cup.

As per the PCB draft schedule, India's CT 2025 games are scheduled to be held in Lahore, a location close to the border in order to ease logistical issues. India are placed in Group A with hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand whereas Group B comprises South Africa, Australia, England and Afghanistan.

CT 2025: Former Pakistan spinner admits 'safety' concerns for India, advises PCB to opt for hybrid model

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has confirmed his choice for India's opening slot for the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held in Pakistan early next year. After the ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, early this month, Rohit Sharma-led India have only three more ODIs -- versus England at home -- ahead of the next ICC event. Thus, Karthik believes India will stick to their tried-and-tested opening pair of Rohit and Shubman Gill, with Yashasvi Jaiswal as an backup option.

Karthik explained his choice on Cricbuzz and said, "Why? Rohit and Shubman are a very good combination. Yes, Jaiswal has a great opportunity to be the backup opener and will get his opportunity soon if Shubman doesn't go as well as expected. And India has a very solid middle order as well."

"In the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, they are just going to be playing three more games. And I am pretty confident it's going to be Rohit and Shubman opening for the Champions Trophy," he added.

Gill and Rohit have forged a successful opening pair in ODIs (with Jaiswal partnering Hitman at the top in whites). The duo opened the innings for India in the 2023 home ODI World Cup, where the Men in Blue ended as the runners-up. In the ODI WC, Rohit ended with 597 runs and Gill managed 354 runs despite missing the initial games due to dengue. The pair managed to put up four 50-plus stands and one century partnership.

Talking about Jaiswal, the southpaw has scored 1,028 runs in 9 Tests, including three tons, and 723 runs at a strike-rate of 164.31 in 23 T20Is. However, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter is yet to make his ODI debut. Given he was part of Rohit-led India's victorious 2024 T20 WC squad, he is likely to continue as a backup opener at the forthcoming Champions Trophy.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has admitted that none of the country's stadiums currently meet international standards. It is to be noted that Pakistan is expected to host the ICC Champions Trophy early next year, their first ICC tournament since co-hosting 1996 ODI World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

"There is a huge difference in international stadiums and those of ours. None of our stadiums are of international standard," said Naqvi while talking to media during inspection at Lahore's iconic Gaddafi Stadium.

Pakistan although, had travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 shortly after the Asia Cup last year.

PCB has also submitted a draft schedule to the ICC for the tournament and has marked Lahore as the venue for hosting all of India's matches in the tournament including the semi-final and final.

'The stadiums in Pakistan...,' PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi admits poor conditions ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has ruled out Ishan Kishan's comeback into the Indian team. Basit feels the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter will not be able to make a national comeback till the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held early next year in Pakistan. Moreover, the ex-cricketer has advised Kishan to focus on IPL 2025 to stage a return in the Indian colours.

Kishan was part of Rohit Sharma-led India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, at home. He even played the home five T20Is versus Australia, soon after the ODI World Cup, but hasn't played for India since he opted to return home midway during the tour of South Africa in Dec-Jan. Since then, he has not been picked in the Indian team, lost his central contract and is playing in domestic tournaments in order to make a comeback. However, Basit feels he should 'focus on IPL 2025' as he won't be able to make a comeback till the next edition of the Champions Trophy.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "Ishan Kishan needs to focus on the IPL now because he doesn't have a chance of returning to the Indian team till the Australia series. In fact, there's no chance till the Champions Trophy. Let's see what happens after that."

Currently, Kishan is leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu Trophy. He impressed one and all in his side's tournament-opener, where Jharkand beat Madhya Pradesh by two wickets. The southpaw scored an impressive 86-ball century in the first innings (114 off 107 balls) and remained unbeaten on 41 to guide his side to a narrow win.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has moved the second Test against Bangladesh from Karachi to Rawalpindi, the venue of first Test as well. The decision comes days after announcing that there would be no spectators during the Karachi Test.

The steps have been taken as National Stadium in Karachi is undergoing construction and renovation for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Pakistan are scheduled to host their first ICC tournament in February-March next year since co-hosting 1996 ODI World Cup.

"We have been guided by the construction experts on the timelines for the readiness of the [National Stadium in Karachi]. They advised that while construction could continue during playing hours, the resulting noise pollution would disturb the cricketers. Additionally, the dust from the construction work could also affect the health and wellbeing of the players, officials, broadcasters, and media," read a statement from the PCB.

With less than six months to go before the start of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pulling out audacious plans to renovate the stadiums. One of the key features of the renovation includes upgrading the floodlights in the stadiums for the Champions Trophy. However, the PCB is in the headlines as it plans to rent the towers for the floodlights during the showpiece event according to a PTI report published on Friday (Aug 16).

PCB to rent towers for Champions Trophy

This part of the project includes installing new floodlights in Lahore and Karachi while moving the old ones to other cities. The PCB has decided to move the floodlights already installed in Karachi to Quetta and those in Lahore to Rawalpindi to save costs. According to reports, the PCB is looking to get sponsors for the towers and a tender has already been released for the same.

"The idea behind this process is to ensure smaller venues are also equipped with light towers for domestic cricket and major venues like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi where most of the international games and CT matches would be played get towers which ensure international standard and uninterrupted provision of light during matches," a PCB source said.

The Champions Trophy is set to start in the first week of February with India and Pakistan set to be included in the same group. The PCB wants to keep no stone unturned for the tournament as it will return to the global stage as hosts for a major tournament for the first time since 2008. They last hosted the Asia Cup in 2008 and have since not hosted a major event having faced security issues.

The majority of the eight nations are expected to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy but suspense remains on India’s participation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to receive clearance from the External Affairs Ministry to travel to Pakistan and participate in the tournament under a hybrid model.

The National Stadium in the city is going under renovation and upgradation for the Champions Trophy in February-March next year, the PCB informed in a statement. "The health and safety of our fans is our utmost priority," read the statement issued by the PCB. "After careful consideration of all available options, we have decided that the safest course of action is to hold the second Test in front of an empty stadium." Bangladesh are in Pakistan for two-Test series with the first Test scheduled to be played from August 21 in Rawalpindi. As reported by the cricket news website ESPNCricinfo, the decision to host the Test without spectators instead of moving it to another venue would have incurred losses for the PCB. Pakistan are expected to play seven home Tests in the coming month and are looking to equally share the hosting between three venues: Rawalpindi, Karachi and Multan. Multan would have been a viable option to shift the second Test against Bangladesh but it is already slated to host the first Test against England in October. The Karachi Test against England, scheduled to be played from October 15, is so far expected to have spectators present. Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has addressed India's reported reluctance to travel to the neighbouring country for the 2025 Champions Trophy. His statement came after reports of budget approval by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"It's simple. If India wants to come, they can. If they don't want to come, it doesn't matter. There's no point in making a fuss about it. This won't make either party good or bad. This is ICC's event, and they will look into this matter, as they should," Mushtaq said as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

'This is ICC's event and they will...,' Ex-Pakistan spinner on India participating in 2025 Champions Trophy

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has requested Team India to visit Pakistan amid the 2025 Champions Trophy row. India and Pakistan play each other only in multi-nation and ICC events, due to the strained political relations since 2008. However, the next year's Champions Trophy is set to be hosted by Pakistan in February-March. At this point, it is unlikely that India will visit the country for the mega event. While talks are on to see how the tournament can be held smoothly. Malik has urged Team India to make a visit to their neighbouring country, saying 'we are good people'.

Malik told Cricket Pakistan, "Whatever reservations there are between the countries, that's a separate issue and should be solved separately. Politics shouldn't come into sports. The Pakistan team went to India last year, and now it's a good opportunity for the Indian team too. I think there are many players in the Indian team who haven't played in Pakistan, so it would be great for them. Hum bahut acche log hai (we are good people). We're very hospitable people, so I'm sure the Indian team should definitely come."

As per a report in PTI, the topic of Champions Trophy’s schedule and format didn't even come up in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s recently-held annual conference. Last year, Pakistan visited India -- after much drama and chaos -- for the ODI World Cup. It will be interesting to see if India does the same this time around. According to the draft schedule, PCB have scheduled all of India's games in Lahore along with the semifinal and final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Both India and Pakistan are in Group 1 along with Bangladesh and New Zealand whereas Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan and England are in Group 2.

ICC approves Champions Trophy 2025 budget for Pakistan, no discussion on India's participation

Amid the rumours of India not travelling to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025, Pak all-rounder Hasan Ali has said that 'it doesn't mean cricket has ended.'

The statement by Ali came while talking to a Pakistan-based channel Samaa TV. Pakistan are the defending champions, having won the title in 2017 by beating India in final.

"As the PCB chairman has said, if the Champions Trophy is being hosted by Pakistan, it will only be played in Pakistan. If India do not want to come, we will play without them," said 2017 edition's Player for the Series Ali.

This is not the first time that the dispute over India travelling to Pakistan for a cricket tournament has risen. In 2023, India did not play their Asia Cup matches in Pakistan but in Sri Lanka instead.

The neighbouring country, however, travelled to India for 2023 ODI World Cup after the Asia Cup.

Ali took the example of the same situation and said: "If we (Pakistan) are going to India to play, then they should come to Pakistan as well,"

"Many Indian players have said in interviews that they want to play in Pakistan. So, it doesn't mean that the team doesn't want to come; they definitely do," Ali said.

"But obviously, they have to consider their policies, their country and their board," he added.

There have been reports doing rounds that India are looking to get their matches shifted to UAE or Sri Lanka under a hybrid model.

The two countries do not play any bilateral series because of simmering political tensions and only face each other in ICC tournaments.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played from mid-February to mid-March next year with top eight teams taking part in it.

'If India doesn't participate...,' Pakistan all-rounder Hasan Ali's BLUNT reply to situation

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked for a written proof from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in case India denies travelling to the neighbouring country for the Champions trophy 2025.

The statement, shared by a source working closely with PCB to news agency PTI, comes after reports of Indian cricket team not travelling to Pakistan for the ICC tournament.

"If the India government declines permission, it has to be in writing and it is mandatory on the BCCI to provide that letter to the ICC now," the PCB source told PTI.

"It is a fact that we are insistent that the BCCI must inform the ICC about its travel plans to Pakistan at least 5-6 months before the tournament and in writing," the source added.

Notably, the two nations have been a loggerheads due to political tensions since long. Most recently, India decided not to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2024. India's matches in the regional tournament were instead hosted by Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, on the other hand, travelled to India for the 2024 ODI World Cup which was played soon after the Asia Cup.

The latest reports reveal that BCCI officials will speak to ICC on the change in venue to Dubai or Sri Lanka during the next annual conference, if the opposite happens and ICC decides against doing it, Team India could face some repercussions.

So, we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,” BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

If the BCCI remains firm on its stance of not allowing Team India to travel to Pakistan (and the venues remain the same), they will be disqualified from participating, making Sri Lanka eligible to replace them.

Australia's national selector George Bailey confirmed that David Warner will not be considered for selection for the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held in Pakistan early next year. Warner retired from international cricket with the end of Mitchell Marsh-led Australia's 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, held in West Indies and the USA. Post that, Warner recently claimed that he has kept the doors open to appear in next year's Champions Trophy, however, Bailey has ruled out his chances.

Bailey said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, "Our understanding is that David is retired, and [he] should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats. Certainly, our planning is that he won't be there in Pakistan."

The former Australian captain added, "You never know when Bull's joking, think he's just stirring the pot a bit. He's had a wonderful career, can't celebrate it enough, and think as time goes by, his legacy of what he has done for Australia, and we reflect on that, the legend of a player is only going to continue to grow. But as far as this team goes and the journey to transition to some different players, in his case across all three formats, it's going to be exciting."

Warner retired from internationals with 112 Tests, 161 ODIs and 110 T20Is, amassing 8,786, 6,932 and 3,277 runs, respectively. The swashbuckling left-hander's successor has already been named as Australia announced their white-ball squads for their upcoming tour of the United Kingdom. The Men in Yellow are scheduled to play three T20Is in Scotland before travelling to England for as many T20Is and five ODIs. Jake Frazer-McGurk has replaced Warner at the top as Australia look to commence a new era sans Warner.

On Thursday (Jul 11), news broke out that the BCCI has asked ICC to shift India's games to Dubai or Sri Lanka as the national side will not travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held early next year. Pakistan is set to host the ICC event, which marks its return after eight years in early February. However, BCCI has reportedly asked the governing body to shift India's games elsewhere amid the strained political relations between the two Asian countries. Now, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has made a big claim. He has stated that India should travel to Pakistan as his countrymen want to see Virat Kohli play. Further, he stated that Kohli would forget India's hospitality if he arrived in Pakistan.

Afridi, who is taking part in the ongoing World Championship of Legends T20 tournament in the UK, told News 24, "I will welcome Team India. Even when Pakistan used to tour, we received a lot of respect and love from India, and when India came in 2005-06, all their players enjoyed. There is no better advent of peace than India and Pakistan going to each other's country and playing cricket. If Virat Kohli comes to Pakistan, he'll forget the love and hospitality of India. He has his own class."

Further, Afridi also opined on Kohli's T20I retirement. In this regard, he opined, "He shouldn't have quit T20Is because the format looked beautiful with him in it. Why can't he play? He is fit; he is in form."

He added, "More than anything else, with him around the new guys would have found a lot more success. You cannot bring all youngsters together; you need a combination of seniors and juniors. What Virat can teach them, I don't think anyone else can."

Talking about the Champions Trophy row, it seems highly unlikely that India will play any of their games in Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the two nations took place in 2012-13 whereas India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2008. This has happened due to the poor political relations of the two countries since over a decade.

In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift India's Champions Trophy 2025 games to Dubai or Sri Lanka as the national side will not travel to Pakistan. The mega event is scheduled to take place in Pakistan early next year. The showpiece tournament will make its return after 2017 when Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan beat India in the final to win the competition in England and Wales.

Recently, BCCI sources told Indian news agency ANI, "It is highly unlikely that the team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy but a final decision will be taken by the government. So, in that case, a hybrid model is being worked out. India may play their matches in UAE or Sri Lanka just like the Asia Cup. Although the ICC will also have their stand on it, as of now this is what we are thinking of. Let's see how things go in the future. As of now, it looks like it will be played in a hybrid model."

This comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently submitted a draft schedule to the ICC, where hosts Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and New Zealand are in one group whereas South Africa, Australia, England and Afghanistan are in the other. In the draft schedule, all of India's matches have been scheduled in Lahore, including the big-ticket clash versus Babar Azam-led Men in Green on March 1.

India and Pakistan have not met in bilateral series since 2012-13. Since 2008, India have also not travelled to Pakistan following the strained political relations between the two neighbouring countries. The two senior men's team last met in the recently-held 20-nation T20 World Cup, co-hosted by West Indies and the USA. Both sides were placed in Group A and locked horns on June 9 in New York, where eventual winners India beat Pakistan by 6 runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Champions Trophy: BCCI denies sending team to Pakistan, asks ICC to change venue to Dubai or Sri Lanka

The countdown for the Champions Trophy has already begun with eight teams set to compete for the second-most important ODI tournament in cricket. According to the latest reports, the Champions Trophy will take place from 19 February 2025 to March 9 in Pakistan. The prestigious competition will take place for the first time in eight years with the last edition being held in 2017 when Pakistan beat India in the final. With several franchise leagues also taking place during the same period it will be interesting to see how players will co-ordinate.

Champions Trophy 2025 in February

Considered the next big thing to the World Cup in ODI format, the Champions Trophy will see eight teams compete for the prestigious honour. If the reported dates of Feb 19 to March 9 are confirmed, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will have a huge headache in adjusting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) dates. On the other side, the PCB has been in conversation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to help organise the entire tournament in Pakistan.

As things stand, India has resisted traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy and wants to play in a hybrid model. The hybrid model will allow India to play its matches outside of Pakistan as it did during the Asia Cup 2023. However, the PCB has insisted that it will provide full security to the Indian team and wants the entire tournament to be played in the nation.

ICC for now has avoided commenting on the same and is likely to hold a meeting with both PCB and BCCI before finalising the schedule.

PSL dates to collide with Champions Trophy

As things stand, if the reported dates are finalised then the PSL 2025 season could be preponed or postponed. In case the PSL is played after the Champions Trophy then it could also coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season, which could see big names pull out of Pakistan’s biggest premier competition.

Champions Trophy 2025 likely to take place from Feb 9 in Pakistan; suspense remains on India's travel plans

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi is confident that Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The mega event is slated to be held in Pakistan, however, apprehensions remain as India have always maintained that they will not travel to their neighbouring country. The PCB chief stated that the board is not even considering the possibility of next year's Champions Trophy being moved out of his country despite there being constant talks of the hosting rights to be removed from Pakistan.

In a press conference on Monday (March 18), during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final, Naqvi confirmed that he spoke with BCCI secretary Jay Shah on the sidelines of the ICC meetings in Dubai last week. However, he didn't divulge the details of their discussion.

Naqvi said, "Yes we spoke for a while and it was cordial but it would be unwise to divulge details of what was discussed." On being asked if India's reluctance to travel to Pakistan would lead to the marquee tournament being shifted out of Pakistan, the newly-appointed PCB chairman said, "I am not even thinking on those lines. We are confident we will host the Champions Trophy on schedule in Pakistan."

Further, Naqvi revealed that the three stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi will host majority of the games in the Champions Trophy, regarded as the mini ODI World Cup, and the stadiums will also be renovated.

"Even as I speak plans have been drawn up and work will begin soon on these three stadiums to give the fans the best experience of watching the matches at the venues," he added.

It is to be noted that the Babar Azam-starrer Pakistan cricket team are the defending champions, having won the last edition of the ICC event in 2017 in England and Wales. Back then, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Men in Green thrashed Virat Kohli's India by 180 runs to win the CT 2017 final at The Oval, London.

Lee Kang-in and Kylian Mbappe scored first-half goals as Paris Saint-Germain won the first silverware of the French season on Wednesday, beating Toulouse 2-0 to claim the Champions Trophy.

Lee, playing his final game before heading off to the Asian Cup in Qatar with South Korea, put PSG ahead in the third minute, leaving Toulouse with an uphill battle at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe then added a superb second goal just before half-time, as Paris claimed the Champions Trophy for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.

"We were exceptional in the first half. It was our best 45 minutes of my time here," said PSG coach Luis Enrique after claiming his first silverware as a coach since leaving Barcelona in 2017.

France's version of a Super Cup is habitually the curtain-raiser to the season and has usually been staged abroad over the last 15 years, including in Tel Aviv at the beginning of the last campaign.

This season's edition was initially due to be played in Thailand in August before being postponed and held in PSG's own stadium rather than on neutral ground.

Home advantage gave Luis Enrique's team, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, the edge as they opened the scoring from one of their first attacks, Lee firing in from Ousmane Dembele's cushioned first-time ball into the middle.

It was a third goal of the season for Lee, who is likely to have a big role to play as South Korea aim to win the Asian Cup for the first time since 1960.

Toulouse, taking part after winning last season's French Cup, almost equalised late in the first half when a Thijs Dallinga shot was tipped onto the post by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Instead, PSG scored again just before the interval as Mbappe -- who is out of contract at the end of the season and so is now free to discuss terms with other clubs -- collected a Bradley Barcola pass before burying a superb shot into the net for his 22nd goal in all competitions this season.

Achraf Hakimi hit the post from a second-half free-kick as Toulouse avoided conceding any further goals and PSG brought on Lucas Beraldo for his debut following the young Brazilian defender's arrival from Sao Paulo.

He replaced Milan Skriniar, who hobbled off injured and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

"It is nothing minor so we will wait and see what the tests show but I am sure he will be out of our coming games," Luis Enrique said of Skriniar.

Hakimi now departs for the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, who will be among the favourites for that competition taking place in the Ivory Coast.

The final of the AFCON will be staged on February 11, while the Asian Cup final is a day earlier.

Therefore, if Hakimi and Lee go all the way with their countries, they will not return for PSG until just before the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Real Sociedad on February 14.

Opting to bat first, England had a blast on the opening day of the Rawalpindi Test versus hosts Pakistan on Thursday (December 01). Ben Stokes-led English line-up went to stumps at 506-4, riding on centuries from openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brooks, and created a world record of scoring most runs by a team on Day 1 of a Test.

Former English captain Joe Root didn't make the most of the batting-friendly wicket, in Rawalpindi, and was dismissed for 23. By virtue of his knock, Root has now become the leading run-scorer of all time in competitions comprising five or more teams, such as the ICC World Test Championship, T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and ICC Champions Trophy.

MS Dhoni led Team India from the 2007 T20 World Cup till the end of 2016. He gave up Test captaincy by retiring from the format in late 2014 but continued to call the shots in limited-overs till the end of 2016. Under him, India attained unimaginable success as the national team won every ICC title and were even the No. 1 ranked side from late 2009 to mid-2011.

One of India's famous wins under Dhoni came during the 2013 Champions Trophy, held in England and Wales. Back then, Australia wasn't at its dominant best but still remained competitive, just like other sides such as England, Sri Lanka and South Africa. India were also a contender for the title, however, Dhoni had a young team at his disposal. Nonetheless, India continued to perform as they reached the final without dropping a single game, including the two warm-up encounters, and faced England in the summit clash in Edgbaston, Birmingham on June 23, 2013.

In a rain-hit 20-over aside contest, India struggled to reach 129/7 as all hopes were slowly and steadily fading away. However, Indian bowlers upped the ante with a combined show to restrict England to 124/8 and claim the trophy by virtue of a five-run win in the finale.

After the match, Dhoni revealed how he motivated his young troops before their 130-run defence. "The first and foremost thing was don't look up, God is not coming to save you. You have to fight it out. We are the No 1 ranked team, let's play like that. If we lose, they will have to score the runs, we won't make easy for them," Dhoni had told Nasser Hussain in the post-match presentation ceremony.

THROWBACK: 'God is not coming to save you' - MS Dhoni's motivational words before India's CT'13 win

Football is a game of uncertainties, it is not justified to predict the performance of any team and pass the judgement regarding the final result of the game.

The second leg of Champion's Trophy is starting from today with one of the most crucial face-offs when a Spanish giant will fight with French leaders.

Defending champion Real Madrid will enter the game with a high because they have already taken a 3-1 lead against Paris Saint Germain in the first leg and the aggregate after including today's score will act as an decider that which team will proceed further.

Paris Saint Germain needs to create chances and the presure of Neymar's absence must not affect the team's performance

PSG has the potential and might dribble the comeback and display a shocker in forfeiting the first-leg deficit against Real Madrid. Yes, chances are there!

PSG are up against it, all the more so with Neymar, the world's most expensive player missing as he recovers in Brazil following a foot operation.

Brazil's Paris St Germain forward Neymar has had a successful operation on his injured foot and ankle.

He was operated on Saturday at the Mater Dei Hospital in Belo Horizonte and currently on post-op rehabilitation. Neymar's absence is a major important implication in today' match.

Out of contract at the end of this season, Emery is relying on big performances from players like Thiago Silva and Angel Di Maria, who were both left out in the first leg.

Kylian Mbappe is looking good at the moment with some outstanding assists in the previous matches.

Captain Sergio Ramos said, "The Champions League means a lot to us,"

"They have a lot of offensive power, but we have our weapons and we're going to try to do damage in Paris," he further added.

Marcelo has returned from injury and he is a big advantage for the team.

This clash takes on huge importance for Zinedine Zidane’s Real, who have had an unusually poor domestic campaign and faced many criticisms for the same even his future as Real coach was doubtful.

As far as the final result is concerned, Real Madrid definitely has an intent of winning the game but PSG's attacking is equally great and might register a comeback and draw the aggregate.

PSG has the potential and might dribble the comeback and display a shocker in forfeiting the first-leg deficit against Real Madrid. Yes, chances are there!

Paris Saint Germain needs to create chances and the presure of Neymar's absence must not affect the team's performance PSG has the potential and might dribble the comeback and display a shocker in forfeiting the first-leg deficit against Real Madrid. Yes, chances are there! PSG are up against it, all the more so with Neymar, the world's most expensive player missing as he recovers in Brazil following a foot operation. He was operated on Saturday at the Mater Dei Hospital in Belo Horizonte and currently on post-op rehabilitation. Neymar's absence is a major important implication in today' match. Champions League: Neymar's absence, Marcelo's return favour Real against PSG

Former cricketer Ravi Shastri will reportedly apply for the post of Indian cricket team's head coach.

Ravi Shastri was the director of the Indian team between 2014 and 2016 during which time he led the Men in Blue to the semi-finals of the World Cup and 2015 World T20. The 55-year-old had also applied for the job in 2016 but legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble was chosen over him by Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).The head coach position has been vacant since Anil Kumble's resignation following India's 180-run defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final at the Oval on June 18.

Earlier, Kumble informed that skipper Virat Kohli had reservations about his work "style" and his extension as the head coach, which prompted him to resign. In a strongly worded letter, Kumble took to Twitter to reveal the reason behind his surprising decision. Former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh, Richard Pybus and Tom Moody and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag have all applied for the post.

The BCCI has already stated that Team India will get its new head coach before their tour to Sri Lanka beginning July 26.

Ravi Shastri applies for position of Team India coach: Reports

Shikhar Dhawan extended his excellent Champions Trophy form to the start of the West Indies tour but heavy rain was threatening to ruin the opening one-day international of a five-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday.

Dhawan stroked an assured 87 and featured in an opening stand of 132 with Ajinkya Rahane (62) as the tourists reached 199 for three off 39.2 batting first when torrential midday showers curtailed their innings.

Such was the intensity of the rainfall that a complete abandonment looked likely. However conditions have since improved, and although India’s innings has been declared closed, it remains to be seen if time will allow for a minimum of 20 overs to be faced by the West Indies in reply to constitute a match.

Should only 20 overs be possible, the home side will be required to reach a target of 169.

After West Indies captain Jason Holder chose to field on winning the toss on a bright warm morning, India’s openers laid the foundation for a formidable total.

They dominated a bowling attack that lacked for genuine potency in the absence of injured fast bowler Shannon Gabriel, who has been ruled out of consideration for the first two games after breaking down during the series against Afghanistan two weeks earlier.

Rahane made the most of his opportunity with the experienced Rohit Sharma rested from this campaign following the Champions Trophy.

He was first to the half-century but was also the first wicket to fall, deceived by a slower delivery from fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and offering a simple catch to Holder at mid-on.

Dhawan was then joined by captain Virat Kohil and looked certain to complete an 11th ODI hundred only to fall leg-before to Devendra Bishoo 13 runs short of the landmark.

Leg-spinner Bishoo, who was not considered for any of the three ODIs against the Afghans, was the pick of the bowlers with figures of one for 39 from his allotment of ten overs.

As the skies clouded over India lost another wicket in attempting to accelerate with Yuvraj Singh becoming Joseph’s second wicket. Kohli and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni were playing with greater urgency when the showers first arrived with India at 189 for three off 38 overs.

They resumed after half an hour but managed just another eight deliveries before the players were again chased off the field by a downpour that has now left the match in jeopardy.

Apart from the recall of Rahane, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is making his ODI debut in this match for India.
