The chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi, has reportedly said the people who cheer Pakistan (during a cricket match) can go there.

Or better still, be deported there.

The Indian Express reported Rizvi as saying: “I was asked about people, including those in Kashmir, who celebrated Pakistani win (in the Champions Trophy final). I said these are people whose mind and heart are actually in Pakistan, just their bodies are here, so they too should go there. Or better still, they should be deported across the border.”

India had lost to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final.

There had been reports of celebrations in Kashmir, where there is tremendous anti-India feeling, following the loss.

And 17 men -- 15 in Madhya Pradesh and two in Karnataka -- had been charged with sedition, again allegedly for celebrating Pakistan's win.

It is however difficult to explain the arrests -- the Supreme Court has said a person cannot be charged with sedition if he or she has not incited violence.

Rizvi took over as chairman of the National Minorities Commission in May, before which he was national general secretary of the BJP Minority Morcha.

The Express reported that one of the first statements Rizvi made after taking over was his “personal belief” that the Kashmiri Pandits should be given the status of a minority.

India captain Virat Kohli said staying "close to reality" was the best way to carry the hopes of a cricket-crazy nation heading into a Champions Trophy final against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Sunday's showpiece match at the Oval in London is a 24,500 sell-out, with millions more around the world expected to watch the high-profile match.

Reigning champions India are the favourites, having launched their title-defence with a 124-run thrashing of Pakistan at Birmingham's Edgbaston on June 4.

A lone loss to Sri Lanka apart, India have been in commanding form.

Kohli's own performances at the Champions Trophy have seen him return to the top of the one-day international batting rankings.

His four innings, including three not outs, have left him with a colossal tournament batting average of 253 heading into the final.

This week also saw the 28-year-old Kohli become the fastest man to score 8,000 ODI runs, reaching the landmark in 175 innings -- seven fewer than South Africa star AB de Villiers's 182.

Kohli already has 27 ODI centuries to his name, with a career strike-rate in excess of 91, and such has been the passionate drive with which he has led India that his fortunes and those of the team as a whole now seem indivisible.

"I know there are expectations, I know there are people that expect the team and me to do well every time we play," Kohli told reporters at the Oval on Saturday. "But I understand as a player and as a person that it's not possible."

He added: "You have to be close to reality.

"This (pressure) is a part of being an Indian cricketer, you have to find a way to deal with it. You can't ignore it.

"You have to maintain a balance and then focus on what you need to do on the field.

"I think I've been able to strike a good balance until now and I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow."

Meanwhile Kohli said it was important for players to ration their use of sites such as Twitter.

"The biggest thing is to stay off social media," he said.

"If you're too distracted listening to too many suggestions or players or criticism, then you can't focus on what you need to think as a sportsman first to be able to lead the team and then help the others in the team as well.

"The more relaxed you stay in these situations it's a good thing, because it helps you take better decisions when you are composed and calm mentally."

Kohli's cool temperament has often been seen to good effect in many a run chase, a quality which could yet prove useful on Sunday.

"If you are thinking 'we are three down and I might get out', then you will get out," he said.

"If you're thinking 'we're three down, I'm going to counter-attack and get the team back on track', it ends up happening, because you're convinced about it.

"That's something I work on. I visualise a lot, and I see myself in difficult situations and actually convincing myself that I can pull the team out in those situations.

"It won't happen every time, but eight out of 10 times it will end up happening because you're so convinced about it."

Meanwhile Kohli played down the importance of a group win against a Pakistan side who have since defeated top-ranked South Africa and Sri Lanka in pool play before thrashing previously unbeaten tournament hosts England by eight wickets in the semi-finals.

"On their day they can beat any side in the world," said Kohli of Pakistan.

"That's the kind of players they have, we're quite aware of that," added Kohli, with India hammering Bangladesh by nine wickets in Thursday's second semi-final at Edgbaston.

"But, at the same time, neither are we too intimidated nor are we too arrogant about what we are doing."

Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed led from the front as he smashed an unbeaten half-century to guide Pakistan to a three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their do-or-die Champions Trophy fixture and eventually to the semi-finals here at the Sophia Gardens on Monday.

Chasing a target of 237 runs to win in the virtual quarterfinal clash, Pakistan held their nerve to come out victorious in this knockout encounter.

Pakistan made a great start to their innings with openers Azhar Ali (34) and Fakhar Zaman (50) stitching a crucial 75-run stand to provide their side to laid the platform.

However, Pakistan lost their next three batsmen in quick successions-Babar Azam (10), Mohammad Hafeez (one) and Shoaib Malik (11), who was playing his 250th ODI game.

Imad Wasim and Fahim Ashraf also got out cheaply for four and 15 runs respectively and it looked unlikely for Pakistan to cross the line after being reduced to 162-7.

But Sri Lanka's disintegrated fielding in the last 45 minutes with couple of dropped catches and Sarfraz subsequent half-century saw Pakistan book their place in the semi-finals.

Sarfraz struck an unbeaten 61-run knock off 79 balls besides sharing a pivotal partnership of 75 runs with fast bowler Mohammad Amir (unbeaten at 28) to help Pakistan chase down the target with 31 balls to spare.

Nuwan Pradeep was the pick of the bowlers for Lanka as he finished with the figures of three for 60 while Lasith Malinga, Suranga Lakmal and Thisara Perera all chipped in with a wicket each.

Earlier, put in to bat first, the Angelo Mathews-led sidthey rope chugged and spluttered to a total of 236 after reducing to 167-7 at one point.

Lanka were cruising at 162 for three as Niroshan Dickwella (73) and Mathews (39) took the Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners by sharing a crucial 78-run stand for the fourth wicket.

However, Pakistan bowlers hit back and triggered a middle-order collapse before Asela Gunaratne (27) and Suranga Lakmal (26) tried to save the blushes for their side and guide them past 200-run mark.

Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali were the most economical bowlers for Pakistan as they bagged three wickets each. Mohamad Amir and Fahim Ashraf also contributed with two wickets.

Sarfraz was adjudged `Man of the Match` for his match-winning performance.

Pakistan will now take on hosts England in the first semi-finals at the same venue on Wednesday while the other last-four contest will see defending champions India taking on Bangladesh at Edgbaston a day after.

Perhaps, the only silver lining for Mallya was the fact that India restricted South Africa to 191 in a do-or-die clash in the Champions Trophy. Mallya was quite active on Twitter on Sunday as he congratulated Force India team in the Canadian Grand Prix and retweeted Kingfisher beer's tweet: We're clenching everything that can be clenched. — Sahara Force India (@ForceIndiaF1) June 11, 2017 × Our final three winners today on a great day for Indian cricket fans as they win by 8 wickets. #PAKvSL tomorrow in another QF. #CT17 pic.twitter.com/7wgsCOm3yy — Kingfisher Beer (@KingfisherBeer) June 11, 2017 ×

Indian cricket fans call Mallya 'chor' during India-South Africa match

Sri Lanka staged a superb run chase to stun India and keep alive their Champions Trophy challenge as Kusal Mendis inspired a famous seven-wicket victory over the holders on Thursday.

Needing 322 to avoid a second successive Group B defeat, Sri Lanka powered to a memorable triumph at The Oval thanks to key contributions from Mendis (89), Danushka Gunathilaka (76) and captain Angelo Mathews (52).

Mathews admitted earlier this week that many experts expected his underdogs to be thrashed by in-form India.

But Sri Lanka defied the odds to win with eight balls to spare and they can qualify for the semi-finals if they beat Pakistan in their final group match in Cardiff on June 12.

After losing by 99 runs against South Africa in their opener, that would be a remarkable turn around for a young Sri Lanka team in the midst of a major rebuilding project.

India's failure to secure a second consecutive win after thumping arch rivals Pakistan was a major surprise and they must beat South Africa at The Oval on Sunday to avoid a humiliating exit.

Shikhar Dhawan's 125 had put India in a strong position as the holders piled up 321 for six.

The 31-year-old hit 15 fours and one six in his 128-ball innings, receiving strong support from Rohit Sharma (78) and MS Dhoni (63), but it wasn't enough.

India had only themselves to blame after squandering the momentum given to them by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who dismissed Niroshan Dickwella for seven when the opener's edge was caught by Ravindra Jadeja.

Needing what would be a record run chase in ODIs staged at The Oval, Gunathilaka set about giving Sri Lanka hope.

He hit Umesh Yadav for a sky-scraping six and, together with the aggressive Mendis, imposed himself well enough to build a quick-fire 50 partnership.

Hardik Pandya had a chance to remove Mendis with the score on 70-1, but young all-rounder dropped a chance off his own bowling.

Audacious

If complacency was an issue for India's wayward bowlers, Gunathilaka made them pay, reaching his half-century in emphatic style with another six.

By the time Sri Lanka reached 108-1 in the 20th over, the holders were beginning to worry.

Jadeja, the world's top ranked ODI bowler, was slapped away for four by Mendis, who sailed onto fifty with his first six.

An audacious reverse sweep for four by Gunathilaka off Jadeja showed Sri Lanka's rising confidence, which hold spiked higher after the diving Rohit Sharma dropped Gunathilaka.

When Mendis hit three successive boundaries, their partnership was up to 159 and India were in danger of letting the match slip from their grasp.

But Gunathilaka's career-best ODI innings came to an end when he was run out by Umesh Yadav after rashly trying to turn a single into two.

Incredibly, Sri Lanka didn't learn from that mistake and Mendis perished in the same fashion, easily run out by Kumar's direct hit while attempting to steal a single.

Crucially, Mathews, playing his first ODI since August after a calf injury, came in to steady the ship with a nerveless innings.

Assisted by the opportunistic hitting of Kusal Perera, he turned the tide back in his team's favour.

Perera gave Sri Lanka a scare when he suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury and had to retire hurt after limping through several runs.

That added to the tension, but India were bereft of ideas.

Gunaratne came in to spank a pair of sixes, putting Sri Lanka on the brink, and Mathews saw them over the finish line to complete their joint highest ever ODI run chase.

Sri Lanka's epic run chase stuns India in Champions Trophy

India skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday rejected the reports of him having any rift with head coach Anil Kumble, saying they are mere speculations which have been created by the people ahead of the team`s much anticipated high octane opening match of the Champions Trophy against Pakistan to be played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on Sunday.

"There are lot of speculations and lot of things being written by people who are not even part of the change room, which is very strange. There are no problems whatsoever," Kohli told the media.

After India left for England to defend the Champions Trophy, it was reported that all was not well between Kohli and Kumble.

Reports have been surfacing about Kohli`s alleged spat with Kumble regarding differences of opinion on selection matters.

Kumble's contract as Indian cricket team's head coach will end post-India's campaign at the Champions Trophy and the BCCI has already invited applications for the position.

"If something is being put in as a process, I don't see why people are creating so many speculations about it. It was followed last time also. The team is totally focused on the Champions Trophy. I honestly don't even know and I don't even want to know anything of this sort because in a tournament which is such big, lot of people like to find lot of rumours and especially before the start of the tournament," stated Kohli.

"They are doing their job and on their livelihood. We are focused on our livelihood which is on the field and all that we are going to focus on," he added.

The iconic leg-spinner, who took over the post of head coach from former cricketer Ravi Shastri, has had a successful tenure as under him, team India claimed the ICC Test ranking top spot.

On Friday, after former India skipper and member of Cricket Advisory Committee, Sourav Ganguly, met Indian cricketers at team hotel, it was indicated that Kumble would step down from his position after the Champions Trophy.

Ramachandra Guha, who quit a Supreme Court-appointed four-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) overseeing the BCCI in protest, has said in his letter of resignation, "If indeed the captain and the head coach were not getting along, why was this not attended to as soon as the Australia series was over in late March?"

"Why was it left until the last minute, when a major international tournament was imminent?" he asked.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag, former Australian Test player Tom Moody, current head coach Kumble, former Indian cricketers Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh and former Pakistan and Bangladesh coach Richard Pybus have applied for the post of India`s head coach.

The BCCI`s three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and VVS Laxman will conduct interviews and seek presentations to select the best possible candidate to guide the team and take the team forward.

Virat Kohli scotches reports of rift between him and Kumble ahead of match with arch-rival Pakistan

India is set to take on arch rival Pakistan in the Champions Trophy one-day cricket tournament on Sunday. India announce Champions Trophy squad; Dhawan returns, Pant misses cut

India confirmed their participation in next month's Champions Trophy in England and Wales on Sunday after initially delaying the announcement of their squad over a revenue sharing disagreement with cricket's governing body.

The dispute intensified when India did not submit a squad for the one-day international tournament by an April 25 deadline after the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) failed to stall a new income model being adopted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"The Board unanimously authorised the acting honorary secretary of the BCCI to continue negotiations with the ICC in the best interest of the BCCI while keeping its legal options open," the BCCI said after a special general meeting.

"The BCCI... unanimously decided that the Indian cricket team will participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

"The all-India senior selection meeting will be held tomorrow, May 8, in New Delhi to pick the team."

At last month's ICC meetings, the BCCI was outvoted 13-1 in its bid to halt the revised deal which considerably slashes India's share from global events in the 2015-2023 cycle.

Unimpressed by the $293 million forecast, down from the $570 million it would have received under a 2014 arrangement, the BCCI responded by refusing to name a squad for the June 1-18 eight-team competition.

The option to boycott the event by revoking the Members Participation Agreement (MPA) between the ICC and the BCCI had been gaining traction within the board prior to Sunday's meeting despite a number of former players opposing any withdrawal.

Acting BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary will now continue to negotiate with the world governing body to get a bigger share of ICC revenues during the next eight-year cycle.

The four court-appointed administrators, who currently supervise BCCI operations, however, instructed the board to ensure that the team continued their preparations to defend their title.

India to participate in Champions Trophy: BCCI

BCCI's acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has said that the $400 million offer presented by the International Cricket Council (ICC) before India is "far less than what the country deserves", seeing BCCI's contribution to global cricket revenues.

"Because it is far less than what India deserves fairly," ESPNcricinfo quoted Choudhary as saying to a leading daily when asked why he did not agree to the settlement deal.

The BCCI secretary contended that the Indian market contributed 70 per cent of the global cricket revenue and, therefore, it was natural for India to get the lion's share.

"Why do you forget that a disproportionate share of revenues to cricket comes from India? It's very easy and misleading to say that India is getting a disproportionate share," he said.

"The facts are that over 70 per cent of cricket's revenue world over comes from the Indian market. That [the $293 million offered by the ICC] is not even close to the contribution that India makes," he added.

The ICC on Thursday abolished the 'Big Three system' and approved a new financial model after its meet in Dubai, under which the BCCI will receive $293 million from 2016 to 2023. Previously, the board was drawing an amount of $570 million due to its ' Big Three' formula.

This might not have gone down well with the Indian board as the new model eats into its share.

ICC independent chairman Shashank Manohar had initially offered a compromise formula of an additional $100 million, which would push the BCCI's share to almost $400 million.

However, BCCI rejected this with a counter-offer under which it would still get its $570 million but no other full member's share would be reduced.

Manohar, had in February while presenting the finance model for the first time, had said the basic premise was to allow every member country to get an equitable share.

To which the BCCI had objected, saying it could not accept the finance model without any scientific basis.

Choudhary further said that any decision on revoking the Members Participation Agreement (MPA) could only be taken by the BCCI, which has called for a special general body meeting (SGM) on May 7.

With the new revenue model getting the nod, BCCI will now have to do with what they have in the eight-year cycle. The England Cricket Board received $143 million while Zimbabwe Cricket received $94 million.

The remaining seven Full Members will receive $132 million each. The Associate Members will receive a funding of $280 million. This model was passed by a vote of 13 to 1.

Before the model was passed by a vote, Indian cricket received $570 million. Now, it will receive $293 million until 2023

BCCI seethes at ICC's revenue-sharing model, says India has been short-changed

India's cricket administration has thumbed its nose at International Cricket Council by not announcing the Indian team for the Champions Trophy before the April 25 deadline.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India -- the administrators of Indian cricket -- is apparently in no hurry to announce the squad, a move that will escalate tensions between the two cricket bodies.

The BCCI and ICC have recently sparred over the proposed revenue-sharing model. The new proposal would result in Indian cricket receiving a lot less money than they have in recent years.

Some reports suggest that the BCCI could lose up to $190 million if the new model is implemented. The Indian cricket administration will continue to remain the highest earners, but the massive pruning in their take-home earnings has prompted the BCCI to stoutly oppose the proposed model.

India's decision to not name the squad before the April 25 deadline is being viewed as BCCI's way of putting pressure on the ICC.

The BCCI is yet to officially seek an extension, which many could perceive as a show of defiance. The ICC extends the deadline only under special circumstances.

The BCCI top brass feels that naming the India squad is a mere formality as the selectors know who are the certainties.

With at least 14 of the 15 members of the Indian team more or less known, the Indian officials are in no tearing hurry. "Tell me one thing, if we name the squad, say for example on May 5, will ICC bar us from participation. We have a settled squad and naming it is a mere formality," a top BCCI official told PTI today.

The Champions Trophy will be held in the United Kingdon from June 1 to 18, and India are the defending champions.

India runs the risk of not participating in this year's Champions Trophy

India's hockey coach Roelant Oltmans said today that skipper Sardar Singh had been replaced as captain for the Olympics as he backed the sport's one-time giants to continue their recent revival in Rio.

After unveiling the 16-strong men and women's squads which will travel to Brazil, Oltmans said that goalkeeper Sreejesh Ravindran would lead the men's team under a new "rotational captaincy" programme.

Singh, who has been captain of the team for the last for years, was picked in the squad and Oltmans insisted he remained a key player.
But the move comes after he was accused in February of sexually harassing a woman who claims to have been his former girlfriend, accusations that Singh has strenuously denied.

"I have been here for a three and a half years now and what I observed is a fairly hierarchic structure and when there is only one captain for long then the players shy away from responsibility," said Oltmans.

"In a team, during a game, I need players who take responsibility. Changing the captaincy on the pitch gives far more responsibility.
"Sardar is an important player but I am sure this (rotational captaincy) will help the team and it will help him as well," he added at a press conference in New Delhi.

India once dominated the men's game at the Olympics and has won a total of eight golds. However the last of these was in Moscow back in 1980 and they finished last at the London games four years ago.

Although not one of the favourites at next month's Olympics in Brazil, there have been encouraging signs for India of late and they were runners-up in the recent Champions Trophy.

"You have seen in the last couple of years that we are getting better and better," said the 62-year-old Dutchman.

"If that's enough already to get medals at the Olympics that's something we have to prove.

India's strong showing at last month's Champions Trophy in London has seen it rise a couple of spots to fifth in the world rankings, still some way behind Australia at the top of the chart.

"Its clear from where we are, winning a couple of medals in FIH (International Hockey Federation) tournaments, look at the world rankings at the moment," said Oltmans.

"It is all signals of revival but nothing more than that. It is up to us to prove it during the Olympics that we are there for a longer time," added the coach, who is also the teams high performance director.

The Indian mens team has been drawn in Group B alongside Argentina, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands. The womens team, which is making its first appearance at an Olympics for 36 years, has been grouped with Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Japan and the United States.
