Rafael Nadal pulls out of US Open, reveals next event where he will participate
Former world number one Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open 2024 edition which will be the final Grand Slam of the year. Nadalwas last seen in action during the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, where the veteran bowed out without a medal. His latest decision seems to be in line with him carefully planning his stops on the tour in what is most likelyhis final few seasons as a professional.
Taking to his official account on X, formerly Twitter, Nadal wrote, "Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories. I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time. Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of lucks to all for the always amazing US Open! My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin."
Nadal, however, didn't mention any injury concerns in his latest post. The 14-time French Open winner has been grappling with injury issues since 2022.
Nadal, a four-time US Open champion, last featured in the mega event, which takes place at the iconic Flushing Meadows in New York, in 2021. Back then, the experienced campaigner didn't have a memorable run and suffered a fourth-round exit.
