SRH vs RCB: Herschelle Gibbs takes a dig at Travis Head post his rare failure
Match 41 of the IPL 2024 edition saw the high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) go down to bottom-ranked Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 35 runs in Hyderabad on Thursday (April 25). RCB opted to bat first and rode on Rajat Patidar's 50 (20) to post 206-7. In reply, the formidable SRH line-up only managed 171 for 8. One of the big reasons for SRH's famed-batting line-up's struggle was the big guns such as Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen departing early.
The track was on the slower side and the run-chase, in particular, became a bit tough. Thus, SRH's power-hitters got dismissed soon and they lost convincingly. Head, who has been in fine form with 325 runs (including a ton and two fifties) and is striking at 212.42 -- was dismissed for 1 (3) on Thursday evening. Hence, former South Africa opener Hershelle Gibbs took a sly dig at him on X, formerly Twitter.
Gibbs took note of Head and his opening partner Abhishek Sharma's recent comment of eyeing a 300-plus total and wrote, "I know travis head said he wants 300 but chasing 207 on a slower wicket would have been just as skilful."

For SRH, they will be eager to work out a way to bat on slower surfaces as the tournament has now reached the business end. They have surpassed the 250-run mark twice and registered the highest team score, 287, during the ongoing season, but need to bat cleverly on slower pitches given their aggressive approach.
Despite the loss, the Pat Cummins-led side remains at the third spot with 5 wins from eight games and are strong contenders to reach the playoffs.

After the loss, Cummins said at the post-match presentation, "Not an ideal night. Few over par with the ball and unfortunately lost a few wickets throughout our innings. We were gonna bat first, it seems to be working for us. Before the last few wins, we were thinking that we were a bowl-first team. Didn't go our way."
On SRH's high-risk approach with the bat, which caused their downfall versus RCB, the Australian added, "I think it's our strong suit. It's not going to work every game. One or two games where it hasn't gone our way at the start, we still managed to get a good total. Still think this is the way forward for our boys."
