The remainder of the ODI squad members will join the ones in Colombo following the end of the T20I series on Tuesday (Jul30). The Men in Blue won the second game by seven wickets, sealing the three-match T20I series.

The ODI series begins on Thursday (Aug1), with the second and third ODI scheduled for August 4 and 7, respectively.

A new backroom staff member joining soon

One of the five speculated conditions that Gautam Gambhir had kept ahead of the BCCI before accepting the head coach role was that he wanted the backroom staff of this choice. Although the board is said to have agreed to his terms at that time, not everything asked for hasn't been delivered.

After rejecting a few names for the respective positions, including Vinay Kumar for the bowling coach, the board accepted Gambhir’s proposal to offer Morne Morkel the same role, per the latest reports. The former South Africa seamer will join the backroom staff from the home season, starting in September with the Bangladesh series.

Speaking of the coaching staff, the decision on Sairaj Bahutule – a dominant spin bowling coach who joined the squad as an interim coach for the Sri Lanka series, is yet to be made.

If in case the BCCI continues with Bahutule as the spin coach, the full backroom staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir would be T Dilip (fielding coach), two assistant coaches - Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel.

Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (vc), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed and Harshit Rana
