Zverev closed the first set in just half an hour winning the match in just over an hour ensuring his second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title of the season.

Wimbledon champion Roger Federer was beaten by 20-year-old German Alexander Zverev in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal on Sunday.

The fourth seed Zverev overcame Federer 6-3 6-4 seizing the match easily as Federer struggled to find form against the aggressive German intent on overcoming his Swiss opponent.

Zverev closed the first set in just half an hour winning the match finally in just over an hour ensuring his second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title of the season.

"This one against Roger is something so special for me because he was always a great idol growing up for me," Zverev said during his trophy presentation. "The greatest player of all time, beating him in a final, not just any final but in the final of a Masters 1000, is amazing."

"I tried to be aggressive as I can," said Zverev. "If Roger starts being aggressive with his forehand and backhand then it is not going to be an easy day for me."

Zverev had lost to Federer in the Halle final, he is now tied with Federer for the most titles this season at five.
