Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira was removed from her country's Olympic contingent and has been asked to fly home after breaking a rule at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. The swimmer has been reprimanded for sneaking out of theOlympic Villagefor a night out with her boyfriend.
Ana Carolina spent the night of July 26 outside theOlympic Village with her boyfriend and fellow teammate, Gabriel Santos. She left the village without permission and the information was found out via a post on her official Instagram handle.
Reacting to the incident, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) announced the decision to send back Ana Carolina and said: “The athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, contested a technical decision made by the Brazilian National Swimming Team committee. As a result, Gabriel Santos was given a warning and Ana Carolina Vieira was dismissed from the delegation. She will return to Brazil immediately,” as per new website Mirror.
Vieira's partner Santos, however, was let go with a warning and apologising after the incident.
Brazil swimming team head Gustavo Otsuka, meanwhile, condemned the athlete's behaviour and said: “We're not here playing or taking a vacation. We're here working for Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who are working for us. We can't play around here. She took a completely inappropriate position to make her point, her dismay, about the formation of the relay,” reported news agency Reuters.
