India’s golden boy and 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra penned an emotional letter to the nation after he won a silver medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday (Aug 8). Neeraj, having finished second to win the silver medal was piped by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem for the gold medal having smashed the Olympic record books with a throw of 92.97 metres. The Indian athlete took to his social media handle to pen the note as he now prepares for groin surgery before taking the rehabilitation.
Neeraj pens an emotional note
"Very proud to be on the podium for India once again at the Olympic Games. Thank you for the love and support. Jai Hind!," Neeraj wrote in a post onhis X handle.
Neeraj with a throw of 89.45 metreswas successful in clinching second place with Pakistan’s Arshad bagging the gold medal. With the silver medal, he joined an elite company of Sushilkumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker to win multiple medals in an individual Olympic sporting event for India. He is also the only track and field athlete to have won multiple medals for India in post-independence.

Neeraj to undergo groin surgery
According to reports, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist in javelin throw has been struggling with a hernia issue for months now. Despite the problem, Neeraj threw 89.45 metresin the final round while he managed an initial throw of 89.34 metresin the qualification. He also became the fourth Indian athlete in the post-independence era to win multiple Olympic medals.
It is reported that Neeraj has been struggling with groin issues for the last two years which also saw him miss the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He has been far from his best despite winning the silver medal at the Olympics. The 26-year-old despite his best efforts is yet to touch the 90-metremark in his career with close competitor Nadeem throwing 92.97 metresto set a new benchmark.
