Post Paris Olympics bronze, wrestler Aman Sehrawat gets Railways promotion

Fresh from his success at the Paris Olympics 2024, wrestler Aman Sehrawat was given a promotion by the Northern Railways on Thursday (Aug 14).The 21-year-oldwrestler was promoted to the post of officer on special duty (OSD) after securing bronze inmen's freestyle 57kg event in the just-concluded Paris 2024 Games.With this, hebecame the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal. Hence, the railways paid a fitting tribute to Aman, with a promotion, for the glory he brought to the nation.

Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu S Upadhyay said in a press statement, "In a meeting held at the Northern Railway Headquarters, General Manager Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri presented a token of appreciation to the Olympian for winning the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. On this occasion, Shri Sujit Kumar Mishra, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Northern Railway promoted Shri Aman Sehrawat for his Olympic medal win and appointed him as OSD/Sports."

Upadhyay added, "Shri Aman Sehrawat, an Indian freestyle wrestler, brought immense pride and glory to the nation by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. His dedication, hard work, and perseverance have been an inspiration to millions."

Sehrawatdefeated Puerto Rican freestyle wrestler Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 in the bronze play-off at Champ de Mars Arena during the Paris Games.

On the other hand, Swapnil Kusale -- another Indian athlete who secured an Olympic bronze medal in men's shooting 50m rifle 3 positions event -- also received a double promotion from being a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) for the Indian Railways to Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

The Indian contingent won six medals in Paris 2024; their second-best tally after Tokyo 2020 (seven medals).
