Michael Holding: BCCI has every right to host IPL 2020 if there is no T20 World Cup

The sporting world is opening up steadily following the prolonged break due to COVID-19 pandemic. While international cricket is set to resume from July 8, dark clouds continue to hover over two of biggest cricketing events in the year 2020 – the T20 World Cup and Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
There has been no official word on the future of the two tournaments with IPL remaining suspended indefinitely and T20 World Cup being on schedule. While there have been reports on T20 World Cup heading towards postponement with IPL 2020 taking up the October-November slot, former West Indies bowler and a legend of the game, Michael Holding is of the view that the BCCI has every right to go for IPL in that window if the T20 World Cup gets postponed.
Holding is of the view that as long as IPL is not encroaching on other tournaments, they have every right to conduct the tournament. Holding opined during an Instagram live session, "I don’t think ICC is delaying the T20 World Cup because they are making space for the IPL. It’s the Australian government’s law where they are not allowing any visitors into the country before a specific date.

“But if there is no T20 World Cup, the BCCI has all rights to go ahead and organise a domestic tournament because there’s a space. If they are encroaching on other people’s tournament, you could say okay," said the cricketer-turned-commentator.
